When is it good to collab and when not?

Are time skips a thing in roleplays or no?

Are there roleplays where it's good to list where you are, the time of day and perhaps the name of your character at the top?
Are Headings for roleplay posts important?

Are different colors for players posts a good thing or bad?

Sorry just curious.

The older I get the more I come to realize that being able to get the most out of a story with those I'm writing with in solo posts is next to near impossible to do at the same pace as I did 5-10 years ago. It might be too obvious, but I just don't have the time nor energy to do solo post after solo post. Collabs are not only necessary, but for me preferable at my age. I find it allows for the organic flow of a scene rather making shortcuts because solo posts are taking so long. But for younger writers, I suppose it's all about personal preference. Some might prefer to do it old school and some like collabs. No right or wrong answer.

Yeah time skips are a thing. How else would you advance the story from a scene? Also depends on the kind of story. Is your way of storytelling to get the most out of a scene before advancing? Or are you more plot-centric where a handful of characters get screentime and then skip to others? Do you prefer the linear way of GMing and giving each person a role to fill out and plan the overarching plot of the story accordingly? It really can go either way, but yes timeskips are not just a thing but a requirement for me.

Timestamps and whatnot are nice for those who get lost in the reading and aren't made clear as to where or when things are happening in posts. Novels do it too -- well some of them do. I do agree that if you actually read the post, you'll know where and when a post is happening, but I also believe having that reminder at the top of the post is a good thing to have for the sake of clarity and courtesy for your fellow writer.

You mean as in using colors for character dialogue? Doesn't hurt or help if it's not present. It can add a nice additional level of depth to posts. Personally I couldn't go without it in posts, but I know others don't care for it and the rest simply don't care one way or the other. It's purely cosmetic and, like collabs, a preference thing.

When the time is right to do them.

Yeah.

Yeah.

Neither good or bad; it is a style preference.

Font Meme

You'll thank me later, it's where I get all my custom headers. While they aren't important they are fucking stylish, and style is just a preference.

1001fonts is a good site, but I personally prefer fontmeme. I can never get 1001fonts' hyperlink to work properly, so I have to go out of my way to download the banner and reupload it somewhere just to use it.

Collabs - I used to be 100% opposed to collabs on posts. I didn't really think that they added anything to roleplays. They were pitched to me as a way of saving time, but it took just as long or longer to get one pieced together; if a shortcut isn't short, why bother taking it? I'm a bit more amicable towards them these days, but still feel that they aren't an end all-be all to use as a constant. They're great for pulling characters into pids and having groups of 2-3 of them have their own conversations. They're good for delivering major plot points or story arc stuff for characters.

But generally, I feel that if you have all of the characters in a large room... might as well just do solo posts and have some freestyle interactions.

My main take on time skips in RPing is that there should be unanimous consent from all players before the skip is made. Within reason, it shouldn't be an issue to let someone get a post or two out for the sake of character development and such before jumping ahead. Shorter skips are ideal, IMO, as a standard operating procedure (a day-a week forward). Banking hard on a few big events spaced months apart from each other feels like rushing. But that also depends on how those events are playing out. I think that sometimes people neglect the value of little moments.

Absolutely agree.

If it's a GM choice he should let all the players know an expiration date for the current timeframe and how long the skip will be.

If it's just the players they should vote on whether to have one and how long to make it. I usually don't even particularly folks going "The Next Day" for their character if no one else is because it ends up confusing the timeline.

I don't like them. I suppose they're preferable when you're writing about something that only involves 1 other person and is of no interest to anyone else.

Yes.

No.

A good writer doesn't need a different color to distinguish between who is talking and who isn't.
