All of that sounds good, but if I were to make a suggestion, it would be to have pvp duels be done in some dueling program, like Duelingbook, if it's supposed to be an actual duel. On the one hand, this allows for a legit duel to happen, meaning luck plays a large part and there's no fudging of the game. On the other, it'd be tougher to write the duel if you know how it happened from beginning to end, unless you write as the duel goes on. Another thing to factor in would be if the opponents are collabing or writing post by post for a duel, since that could influence whether using a program is a good idea or not. And if nothing else, like King Cosmos said, a program would at least shuffle the deck for us and let us know what our hand and field are at a given time.
But since it's less "regular" dueling, I don't know how effective that would be.

If duelbook or similar simulators have a written play by play that could be referenced after the fact for writing purposes, that might help, but still seems like more effort than my proposed system, particularly since my method can function even if you only have time to go through a single turn.

My system does have a slight stumbling block of "what if you go through a whole turn only for the other player to have a response to everything before they can even take their own turn", but at that point it's a matter of coordination between the players, making both ideas kind of a hassle in the same ways that matter, so maybe just roleplaying it is the better (or at least simpler) option?

I'd like everyone's input on this, seriously: simulate it, or just roleplay it (for the love of gods, just vote for one; "I'll just go with whatever" is completely unhelpful)

Collaboration posts using a public writing pad site is usually how I've done things. Whole duel in one post. Granted that's also usually in RPs with discords or other forms of active immediate communication being utilized so that players can discuss as rhey are adding to the duel.

They have replays you can go back to for reference.

You have to collaborate on duels. There's no other way to go about it in a game that allows responses.

Whether that's a fully roleplayed/scripted duel or a write-up of a duel in a simulator should just be left up to the individuals involved. Just do whatever works best for the scene.

I'm more leaning on roleplay myself. But yeah a platform to help collaborate and manage the duel would help

Definitely agreed with this. My own personal vote would go toward using a simulator, but that could also just be me looking for an excuse to play the actual TCG to some degree. xD

Anyway, on the topic of the whole "Horus" discussion, the Majestic Horus idea looks nice but it also looks extremely situational. I dunno at this point I'm starting to second-guess myself on the whole Horus thing. Maybe I should have just kept in the Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon since that could lead into an eventual Dragon Link deck or something? I dunno.

I think simply using a simulator would work for standard stationary duels and that's about it. The action duel like duels, I've just been calling them hunt duels in my head, they are majorly effected by RP and movement around a location, so can't really be resolved in a simulator. If the players in character RP in the sim chat it's kind of functional, but there isn't really time for stuff like GM intervention when necessary, and I'd still rather see the duel in prose in the end. It's a bunch of trade offs really.

Hmmm...Yeah, for action duels, maybe just use it for deck shuffling (unless we're heart of the cards-ing those since they're PVE) and use it for the usual kind of duels otherwise? I don't remember Duelingbook having a time limit, and while there is a chat system I don't know if it lets viewers talk in it. (The reason I'm pointing to Duelingbook instead of other programs is that it's all manual, and you can make custom cards on it because of this, so it seems to fit well.) The big issue would be having to RP it out as the duel goes on so we could copy-paste it all into a collab, then do any edits necessary as a duo before one of the two duelists posts it.

@Double
Well, Darkness Metal Dragon is a fantastic card so obvious it would be really good in any dragon deck, but maybe add it back in and then he builds a red-eyes deck as the RP goes on? Alternatively, there are less situational ways to handle a Horus Synchro if you decide you want that concept. I just thought that since it'd be really strong it would make sense to have it be a "Majestic Dragon" Synchro.

Would it be acceptable to make this my deck list? @RickyG85

I basically cut Horus and a few of the other monsters I wasn't feeling. In their place I put Darkness Metal Dragon back in, as well as Red-Eyes Wyvern, Red-Eyes Retro Dragon, and Divine Dragon Lord Felgrand. This deck list can be more easily labeled with an actual theme (Red-Eyes and Felgrand) but also still contains enough janky cards that it retains the theme of a rookie duelist still early in his career.

Looks ok to me

Ya'll work out your duels however you want, I think the best thing I can do at this point is leave it at that, otherwise I'm not going to get anything else done.

Went and created Tobias' deck in Master Duel so I could test it out in solo duels... and then realized that Terraforming is banned on Master Duel. >_<

ok, posted a simple intro, everyone feel free to introduce their characters as they go through the "torunament", no pressure on post length, of course, do what you can/feel is appropriate at the time.

Duel disks are a thing, but they aren't common; pretty sure they are only used by the magic duelists. Duel Monsters is a niche hobby in this setting, not an all-consuming juggernaut like the show, so this should just be a regular store tournament with games at tables.

Alright, not a bad start!

Seeing it in action (Thanks, World), I have to admit the duelbook log is better suited to a rp focused yugioh rp than my initial plan. I'll still encourage players to do whatever they're most comfortable with, but duelbook is pretty solid.

I'm going to move things along with my next post, tomorrow.

Edit: NW, still with us? If you're ready to post, I can give you a little more time
