I'm six episodes into Blue Eyed Samurai, and I'm sort of disappointed how far this show has lost the plot in its second half. I can tell that this show has different writers and directors for its episodes. Because you can feel the complete break of cohesion and the plot armor writing breaking any suspension of disbelief.

Now I never expected a masterpiece of writing. But the tone suffered several blows in episode 5 and 6. And now I'm struggling to finish it, (after learning that it doesn't have a real conclusion.)

The MC and the plot is just John Wick now. (The latter ones that didn't have any pretension about being a serious story.)

Also, this season of anime might very well have some of the worst and laziest beginnings I've ever seen. To the point where if I actually saw animation in the first minute, versus still shots of people talking without moving their mouths, and terrible cgi, I considered it a blessing. Hell, even the good studios are making things that feel way below their level. But I'll give a few shows more time to intrigue me. But I can't say any of them stuck with me.

I've been watching What's Wrong with Secretary Kim which is a K-drama from 2018.

Overall, it's a very cute and simple show, and it's probably because it was stylized to be like a live action romance manhwa.

It'll also definitely make you crave ramen and Korean BBQ though as you're watching the episodes since the actors are almost always eating that in the show.

La Belle et La Bête (1946)

I watched La Belle et La Bête (1946) with the family last night. The French title translates to Beauty and the Beast. It was my second time watching the film, and it was more enjoyable this time around. I did have to read the subtitles for children, who ended up being intrigued with the movie after an initial protest. Reading the subtitles was fun, but of course, my voice acting was nothing compared to the actual acting.

The film is considered the best French film of all time, and honestly, I think it is one of my personal favorites, as well. The cinematography is beautiful. Or dare I say gorgeous? It’s thoughtful and deep and haunting. It’s whimsical and childlike and imaginative. And, as already stated, the acting is phenomenal.

If you haven’t already seen it, you should give it a g, or if you have seen it, have another go at it!

Is Madame Web supposed to be connected to the Sony films or nah? From what I've heard the movie is apparently in its own universe according to the articles I read.

Just finished Netflix's season 1 of The Last Airbender. I guess it exceeded expectations, and I could see how they managed to connect and execute most of the iconic scenes even though they had to condense the entire season (and they even added a few awesome details not mentioned in the animation). Still missed a couple of good arcs though, but I suppose it can't be perfect.

Solaris (1972)

I just recently watched the Russian 1972 Sci-Fi movie Solaris after making a goal of watching all of Andrei Tarkovsky’s movies. The movie follows a psychiatrist’s trip to a space station orbiting a planet called Solaris. Strange phenomenon have been happening on the ship, and his mission is to investigate the situation. The plot does not adequately follow the novel’s storyline, but I enjoyed the philosophical discussions about the themes of life, death, and love. There was also, of course, penitent suspense in the mix as with all Tarkovsky films. I haven’t seen the George Clooney Solaris, but I kind of bet it’s not as thoughtful, so if you have an want a more contemplative work, here’s your gateway!

Yeah...

Anyway, haven't had time to watch much of anything. But I am at the stage where I'm so disinterested in everything coming out, that I'll likely resort to rewatching some shows that I actually liked.

Anyone have any recent recommendations? Yes, Dune 2 is supposed to be *almost as good as the first one*. I'd care if the first 30-50 minutes of the first one didn't bore me to tears.

Your Place or Mine (2023)

My favorite movie in middle school was 13 Going on 30 (2004) — flash forward to: heartthrob Mark Ruffalo playing the antagonist in Poor Things (2023) — which is completely off topic, but I can’t help mentioning because I find it amusing. The reason I mentioned this is because after I watched United States of Leland (2013) in high school, I stopped paying attention to mainstream films.

So, why was I watching something like Your Place or Mine? It’s just the way the universe was made. I was in a public establishment. I didn’t even recognize Ashton Kutcher at first. The movie was playing with no sound, and I had to read the subtitles.

I liked the premise being of a naive, neurotic single-mother with her misfit son. I liked that she had an overbearing and cynical bestie looking out for her best interest, complimented with a cup of coffee. I liked that her neighbor was lingering around trying and failing to get her undying love, all while she obliviously attempted to simply keep afloat. (Honestly, I think it took the movie to put things into context for me.) I loved that her to-be love interest goes through failing grandiose efforts to parent her son. I liked that he had that male touch many single-moms (often tragically) can’t seem to offer.

The movie got a 30% on Rotten Tomatoes, but The United States of Leland got a whopping 34%. The single-mother still lingering in me can’t help but recommend My Place or Yours. It had iconic, cute, and silly light-hearted moments, and of course, you know, the movie circumvents around characters with a love for literature. So, if you want to veg out and watch Ashton Kutcher run around with more make-up than Queen Elizabeth. Here’s your chance.

I liked Dune 2 more than Dune 1 but that's with the caveat of me thinking Dune 1 is like 3/5 and Dune 2 is 4/5 only cuz I don't give half stars.

I'm not gonna say they're bad movies, I will say that I don't really like how Denis kinda like sanitized the weirdness from Dune. Like I get it, it's there to make money and appeal, but it comes off as a movie that is afraid to take any real risks or embrace the source material. Like I don't even know how he plans to do Messaih or Children or God Emperor (if he plans to do those at all). I wouldn't wanna watch it outside the theater, though, it is definitely a theater movie experience.

X-Men '97 is p. good.

The Acolyte is the first Star Wars project I've cared about since TLJ (the best Star War) because it's finally taking place outside of the fucking Skywalker era.

I look forward to being let down.

I watched an episode of "The Gentlemen". Something Guy Ritchie made twice for some reason (like Sherlock Holmes and the fucking awful live action Aladdin apparently.) Because people said it was good. (Looking into it, he supposedly only made two episodes of this show.)

And uh...the first episode is every single western media plot that's ever been made. You have a dying father. Drugs and drug-use. An asshole loser brother character. Sarcastic "witty" dialogue conversations. Every characters an asshole. There's a will that drives the conflict of episode. And some random ass bullshit happens for normies to find quirky. (That being watching someone dressed in a chicken suit sing.) And someone is killed for a cliffhanger.

It was obnoxious and not particularly engaging. If you like this, you'll like any show that's been made in the past ten years.

I watched Succession for longer.
