"Space. The final frontier. These are the voyages of the starship ____________________ . It's continuing mission: to explore strange new worlds; to seek out new life and new civilizations; to boldly go, where no one has gone before..."
Hey everyone! I wanted to reach out to some of the more dedicated players on here to see if there would be any interest in a Star Trek-inspired RP. The basic idea is simple: the story will follow the crew of an exploratory vessel and their adventures throughout the galaxy. Though inspired by Gene Roddenberry's vision of the future, the RP would not literally take place in the Star Trek universe. It will instead be set in an original universe, with original characters, species, planets, and factions. This would open up the game to players who are perhaps less familiar with the ins and outs of Star Trek, but who are interested in the spirit of the franchise. The exploratory nature of the story would allow the universe to be built by the players, as the adventure unfolds.
To make this RP a little different, I will not be taking on the role of a player character. I will not be part of the crew. Instead, I will write for the various NPCs encountered throughout the adventure. Acting as a game master or narrator of sorts, my task will be to come up with interesting scientific challenges and moral dilemmas for the crew to overcome. The story will follow an episodic format, like a Star Trek TV show, with each episode focusing on a new "planet of the week."
So if you're interested, let me know! Once there are enough replies, I'll go ahead and set up the RP thread and flesh out some of the basic details of the universe. But as I said here, the set-up is pretty simple. For the crew of the ship, we need a character to fill each of the following roles:
- Captain
- First Officer
- Science Officer
- Operations Officer
- Tactical Officer/Chief of Security
- Helmsman
- Chief Engineer
- Chief Medical Officer
We can certainly have more later on, but those 8 positions would need to be claimed first. Obviously, the player taking on the role of the Captain would have a little bit more responsibility, but every job is vital to the function of the ship. Aliens characters would of course be permitted, but I think it would be best to still have the majority of the crew be human or part-human.
