Welcome to Huddeen, New Hampshire. Or rather, what's left of it.

Huddeen was a meager town situated near the three cities of Concord, Manchester, and Nashua. Although the town had enjoyed a close proximity to the cities, Huddeen was left to deal with the outbreak and resulting fallout by itself. The National Guard units that were assigned to relieve the town never arrived, and with the military consolidating resources towards larger population centers such as New York City and Washington D.C., it was ultimately written off as a necessary loss along with much of the New England countryside.

That was roughly two weeks ago. Most of Huddeen has been left to the dead, yet a small holdout still remains: Mulberry Street. One of the few roads in Huddeen, a surprising number of households along the street survived the initial outbreak.

Although these families were lucky to survive the initial outbreak, they are now in the eye of the storm. The electricity, water and gas are all still on, yet as the days pass the likelihood of them turning off increases. Other supplies such as food, unable to be frequently replenished at city supermarkets like before, are beginning to dwindle, forcing the survivors to start rationing. It won't be long before people will be forced to scavenge for resources—provided they can avoid being devoured by the wandering undead in the town.

Regardless of the impending doom, however, Mulberry Street stands strong. Armed with neighborhood camaraderie, some have begun to venture out into the unknown, eager to turn the street into a place of shelter and safety. Will you join your fellow neighbors in rebuilding the neighborhood into a thriving sanctuary, or will you sit back and let them waste their resources on foolish hope?

Hello, and welcome to Left Behind.

If you aren't here from the interest check, the concept behind the roleplay is rather simple. You, and/or your family, are a survivor of a recent zombie apocalypse, and so are most of your neighbors. Rather than devolve into bandits and eventually fight over scraps, the neighborhood has decided to pool their resources together to ensure the survival of their community.

As the roleplay takes place in a small outskirt town, there are no strong resource points to gather supplies from, such as a Walmart or some other big corporation to scavenge. There are a few local businesses to take from, like a small family diner and a gas station, but those supplies are finite and certainly don't have everything the neighborhood would need to survive. In other words, as the roleplay progresses, they will eventually be forced to venture out further, either into other nearby outskirt communities or into one of the three zombie-infested cities for supplies.

Given the nature of the roleplay setting, this roleplay will primarily be sandbox-based as it is designed for a base-building scenario. You aren't going to be mowing down zombies with machine guns or katanas, you are going to be ensuring that you and your neighbors survive against various things like starvation, mother nature, and of course, being torn apart by building up and creating a thriving sanctuary. The characters in this roleplay aren't apocalyptical badasses, they're just everyday joes trying to make sure that everyone makes it through the end of the civilized world as best as they can.

If that interests you, then the character sheet is below. I will try to answer any questions or concerns that anyone might have, but I also want to leave most things vague enough for players to interpret as they wish in the spirit of the roleplay. But if there is anything you're truly not certain on, then just leave a message and I or any other potential co-GMs will get back to you about it.

Deadline will likely be some time next week depending on how fast we get sheets in. I haven't decided.

Please post your sheets in the OOC. DO NOT POST THEM IN THE CS TAB WITHOUT GM APPROVAL.

Also, to address a (sorta) issue we had last time, please try to keep to the New Hampshire aesthetic with house pictures. Brick houses, wooden colonial-esque churches, vibrant fall trees, etc. That way the neighborhood doesn't appear as a ramshackle mess of buildings.

Either or. It is primarily meant for a family, but there is no problem playing someone who lives by themselves.

Is there a limit to how big you would like the families to be? There are only 3 slots that you have in the CS, did you want it to be limited to 3 characters per person, at most? Also, what is the minimum age of characters?

1) No, there is no particular limit for how big families can be. The three was just an example.

2) There is no minimum. The family I had made for the prior rendition included a five year old, for example.

I had a few more questions. I was thinking about playing a family who owns a diner in Huddeen, if that would be alright? Also, how far away are the actual cities from Mulberry street? Like, would someone easily be able to commute back and forth if they worked in the city, or would you say that they're too far for that?

A diner is fine. We had someone in the prior rendition running a local joint in the area.

With Huddeen, I don't have an EXACT position unlike some of my other zombie RPs (for example, #SNB with Rushford being in the place of Liberty Center, Ohio). However, I have done some research, and have plotted out the cities to be roughly half an hour (give or take) from Huddeen. Huddeen itself is to the left of said cities, taking inspiration from places like Amherst, Mont Vernon, New Boston, etc. Expect winding, two way country roads with typical speed limits of 30-35 or so (from my google maps research), so factor that in as you would with your character.

I don't see any issue with your question myself, but if you think at least an hour of drive time for your character daily (back and forth, thirty minutes or so each way) then I would avoid it.

@Kuro I will work on a family for the thread. Patriarch is of French Canadian heritage in his 40s. Wife and three teenaged children. At one time I worked for a railroad that traveled through Nashua and Concord. Also took trips up to Portland, ME. I will write what I know and make him a (former) railroad employee. I always write a veteran because I am one.

I’m tentatively considering joining depending on if I can get a character fleshed out enough in my head to commit to it. Being that it’s 2 weeks into the apocalypse how would you feel about a character from out of town who drifts into the neighbourhood at the start of the RP? I’d prefer to play a single character over a family.

I am almost (!) done with my family, but I had another question (Imsosorry).

What do you mean by relevance in the character tab? Relevance to the story? If they're like, more of a side/main character?
That's definitely going to be all of my questions! I should hopefully have my CS finished by late tomorrow if all goes well.

I have questions regarding the zombies.
1. Are they slow movers like in The Walking Dead or sprinters like in World War Z?
2. How is the zombie-inducing virus transmitted to living creatures? bites?
3. If it is a bite that changes a person, how long does the change take place?
4. Can the zombies communicate at all?
5. Are they triggered by sound as in other zombie movies/shows?
6. How do you kill them? Is a headshot necessary? or can you just incapacitate them another way? Immobilize them and they remain animated as just a skull?
7. What percentage of the population are zombies? at least initially.

Thank you

Single characters are allowed; the family dynamic is just to simulate the "neighborhood banding together to protect the neighborhood from zombies". As for the "drifter" question, I spoke with @mickilennial about it. The main issue I see with such an archetype is that while it is a unique twist to the concept that I/we're planning, there would be a need for more information from you, but also in particular more GM oversight over said character so that it doesn't muddle anything on our ends. After all, the RP is mainly focused on the lives of those who live on Mulberry. As for Micki, I'll let them chime in when they can about what they think in case they have anything they'd like to mention in detail to you.

I am almost (!) done with my family, but I had another question (Imsosorry).

Relevance to the family. For example(s): Bob Smith // Father, Jane Doe // Youngest Daughter, etc. That is in place so that people have an idea as to who the character is supposed to be portraying.

I have questions regarding the zombies.
1. Are they slow movers like in The Walking Dead or sprinters like in World War Z?

Thank you

1) At the moment, they're slow moving Walking Dead zombies.
2) Bite, like most media.
3) Between a day or two, closer to the former in most cases.
4) Communication between zombies isn't a thing. They may group up and start swarming/herding after someone, but don't expect to start hearing "Zombiese".
5) Yes.
6) Headshots/trauma are necessary, yes. Immobilization just slows them down.
7) That is to be determined, but it is a high number that is rapidly increasing. As for Huddeen, Mulberry Street may be likely the only people left alive in town.
