Hey there, the name's Dyrpyn.
(he/they)
I began roleplaying on a different forum sometime back in June 2021, and through the year of consistent writing that arose from it I earned myself some insane progress in building my writing and collaboration skills. Skills I still hone to this day now that I've moved to Discord RPs with an established tight-knit group of friends.
And I love those friends, I really do. But I was recently thinking to myself. These guys don't have to be the Only people I roleplay with. There's other places out there. What happens if I search on Bing (that's right shameless Bing user here) for "roleplay forum"- oh holy crud wow what's this place??
So here I am. I don't know whether I'm fully staying yet, just kind of looking around and gaining some flimsy bearings that'll hopefully upgrade to sturdier ones down the road.
So, About Me!
Preferences & Writing Habits
> My preference with what kinds of roleplays I'm attracted toward tends to be pretty arbitrary. I'm mainly a comedy author and my favorite genres are that plus fantasy and sci-fi, but I could absolutely dabble and have done so in loads of other genres if merely the roleplay concept speaks to me enough. It's less about the genre for me and more about the individual idea.
> I have a tendency to realize later on that a roleplay I created or an idea I had would work wonders as a personal project... so beware of that
> I usually push myself to write enough consistently that it's fit for advanced roleplays, but I have a feeling I'll be sticking more in the casual section, maybe moving over to free roleplays when I feel tired and need to indulge in the low-quality. Besides, the level of detail that goes into advanced characters probably isn't my current cup of tea. I prefer to just kind of go with an appearance and personality and develop the character gradually as the roleplay goes on. I want to see how I write them before I solidify the rest of their being.
> On that note. I tend to struggle with creating a character backstory. Not completely sure why. Working on that.
> Character building for me tends to consist of silly headcanons and offhand notions first and foremost. I like to ease my way toward the more serious stuff. Have fun with it. And as aforementioned, it's a lot easier for me to build a character while I'm actively writing them rather than doing everything beforehand. I'll still fill out sheets as completely as I can but there's a substantial chance a lot of info could change later. My characters tend to deviate from the initial sheets lol
Other Sillies!
> I. LOVE. DESIGNING UNUSUAL CREATURES, ELDRITCH BEINGS, AND ORIGINAL SPECIES. If you have any of this in your roleplay I will love you forever. Humans are okay but getting to design a whole new goofy guy who looks nothing like a human is one of my favorite things ever. It's so so silly to me and a very fulfilling way to express my imagination. Making lore of a species however. Now that's a tad tedious
> Outside of roleplaying, I aim to study digital art and animation, game design, comic making, and a little bit of music theory so that I can create all the weird and wonderful stories I have in my head that would span across several different media. Jack of a lot of trades master of none ever because progress is an infinite loopdeloop line.
> Unrelated subjects I'm considering taking up are photography as a leisurely hobby, psychology for character and social reasons, and ummm. List Item Number 3
So hello hello everyone, my days at the Guild may have begun!
