Welcome to Unit GC-88, Operation: Eden, a Science Fiction Military Roleplay!

GM: Roman | Consultant/Co-GM: Lord Wraith

It is the year 2277. Man has conquered space travel, and has begun the necessity that is colonizing the planets of their local star space, known as the Genesis System. Their home planet, Gaia, is no longer their first choice; it is for the destitute and the unwanted. Those deemed 'valuable' or 'necessary' have been shipped to colonized planets, and everyone else scrapes up what cash they have to get the same opportunity.

As more planets became populated, ruling parties on all colonies formed a collective government, operating as a singular ruling organisation for all colonised planets in the system, known as the Galactic Coalition. The GC runs centrally through the Zion Station, a massive space vessel large enough to harbour a population almost equal to some of the planets that Man colonised, and the only one of its class.

But the Galactic Coalition, however idealistic, sadly cannot keep order throughout the light-years of the Genesis System across the several colonies without a considerable military force. And so, it is a considerable military force that the GC has created - the GC Military. Conscripting from all colonies, and even from Gaia, recruitment is consistently successful, mostly due to fresh recruits being offered free passage to Boot Camp, and a home on one of several colonised planets after two to four successful terms of deployment, depending on each assignment.

You are one such recruit, heading for your training camp on Primitus, the first colonised planet, and now used solely for Coaltion VIP's and military operations. You are awaiting touchdown, preparing for training, and hoping that your deployments will not result in a painful death. For whatever reason you joined up, you're here now, under the employment of the Galactic Coalition. You just hope your new life is better than the one you left.

Gear up, soldier. You're arriving.

Welcome to the 88th Unit of the Galactic Coalition Military. You are a soldier, either freshly conscripted, undergoing training, or currently off-duty from planetary deployment. Shipped in from one of several homes - Gaia, Primitus, Calidum, or one of the moon colonies - you have joined the GC Military for your own reasons, and you will be trained and deployed for the Coalition's reasons.

In this RP, you will be trained, deployed, extracted, put on resting leave, and deployed again. You will become immersed in the Genesis System, Mankind's local solar system, into which they have branched out from their homeworld of Gaia. Your character growth is your own, but your orders are to be followed.
Universe Information:

As Mankind grew as a species, they forgot how to look after their world. Their planet, Gaia, suffered greatly, and as natural disaster wracked the continents, and pollution began to affect the air humans breathed, they looked ever more to the stars for a new home. And by the year 2277, humans have found several new homes within their home planet's local star system - the Genesis System.

As new colonies were forged, and communities sprung up and thrived in the way humans are wont to do, it was realized a greater guiding force would be necessary. The ruling bodies of each colony on each planet formed a collective authority, the Galactic Coalition, keeping order throughout the System - with the help of a considerable military force.

After the birth of the Galactic Coalition, and the christening and subsequent voyage of the Zion Station, it was realised that the cross-world order and peace that the Coalition was founded to protect could not be achieved through hope, good will, and faith in other people alone. It was an unfortunate truth, but in order to enforce order, the Galactic Coalition required some manner of authoratitive force. It was a simple necessity.

And from necessity, the Galactic Coalition Military was born. Primitus, the cold, harsh world that had been colonised first, was evacuated of civilian citizens, and became the center of operations for the GC Military. The Coalition VIP's from Primitus became Zion Station residents, while others were transferred to Calidum, or the moon colonies. Recruitment Centres were set up on Gaia and Calidum, as well as one or two of the larger moon colonies - and with the offer of a home for soldiers and their families after terms of deployment, recruits came quickly.

Name:

Robert Lee Holland

Nicknames:

Holly

Callsign:

Serpent 6

Gender:

Male

Appearance:

At age 43 Holland has aged rapidly, he has a scar that runs across his scalp and he keeps his graying hair shaved. Constant exposure to the elements has given his skin the consistency and color of old leather. His eyes are a light brown and he has a sleeve tattoo on his left arm and he is approximately 5.11 in height and weighs around 200 pounds.

Skills and Talents:

Holland's older than most of the guys in his unit and he's had plenty of time to learn the tricks of the second oldest trade in the universe. While he's certainly in good shape, there are plenty of guys in his unit that are stronger. Holland's strengths lie in his marksmanship and he prides himself on his gunnery skills with any caliber of mortar.

Personal Memento:

A picture of his son

Biography:

Holland was born the son of a soldier and a hooker on Gaia. His mother did her best to look out for him, but she was beaten to death one night by an angry customer. Robert found sanctuary at a local monastery, but he realized the life of a monk was not for him and so he left at the age of 15. He drifted around Gaia, looking for work and biding his time until he turned 18. Once he was old enough, Robert seized his chance and went to the nearest recruiting station. He'd seen how the soldiers acted, they had each other's trust and they knew that no one would fuck with them. Robert knew that the military would give him and his sister a way out of the kind of poverty and squalor they'd had to deal with. He'd heard how the soldiers talked about the Infantry and so he told the recruiter he wanted to become an Infantryman. In a military where everyone was trying to get "safe" MOS like communications and supply, the recruiter was more than happy to fill his quota and sign Robert up for the hardest, dirtiest job the GC had to offer.

From there Robert was shipped to Primitus and met the three men who would permanently alter the course of his life, the Infantry Drill Sergeants. They were everything an Infantryman was supposed to be. All three were in excellent shape, they drank straight whiskey like it was water and chewed like it was going out style. Even on Gaia, he had never seen anyone that was so obscene, violent and ruthless and so proud of it. He hated them and, more than anything, he wanted to be like them.

After completion of Infantry Basic and AIT, Robert assigned to a peacekeeping unit Calidium on and then rotated back to Primitus for further training. From there Robert deployed, rotated home and then deployed wherever the GC decided he was needed most. Throughout his long career he has risen through the ranks and then busted back down.

Through everything, Robert has always done his best to get along with everyone he meets. He keeps in touch with his sister and even though he hasn't spoken to his wife in years he sends her most of his paycheck to take care of their son. He's also a very devout man and genuinely believes that the military can make a difference in people's lives, the way it did for him. He's not without his flaws, over the years he's developed a drinking problem and he has some strong anger issues.

Name:
Robin Pearson

Nicknames:
Robbie / RP

Callsign:
Red-Bird

Gender:
Female

Appearance:
24 year old Robin Pearson has jet-black hair cut in fashion keeping with the GC Military regulations with brown eyes. She stands about 5'8" and weighing in at 135 with a very athletic build. Robin also has a small scar along her left cheek which will be explained in her
bio.

Skills and Talents:
Robin knows how to survive in the outdoors under less than ideal conditions and is skilled in advanced combat tactics. Her real strength is in communications. Whether it is using a communications device issued to her or being able to build one out of spare parts if you need to get a message to someone
somewhere Robin will find a way to make it happen. Robin can also speak many languages fluently.

Personal Memento:
A piece of shrapnel that looks like a shark's tooth around that hangs from a necklace

Biography:
Robin was born on Primitus to Colonel Edwin and Alice Pearson. Robin was the middle child which meant more times than not she acted out to get attention, but she wasn't a bad child by any stretch and her parents loved her. Her father retired and was hired on to the board of directors of a defense contractor and was very well rewarded. This meant that the family now moved to the Zion Station and while she appreciated the new lifestyle Robin was actually miserable. She missed the atmosphere of being in the military and her father knew it. Edwin was hoping that Robin would avoid the military because he wanted her to have a “normal” life, but they made a deal. If Robin wanted to still enlist after she graduated college Edwin would give her his blessing. By the middle of her sophomore year Edwin knew that there was no deterring Robin from the military and he gave her his blessing to enlist.

Robin found that in college she had a passion and a gift for working with communications equipment and different languages. She knew that these skills would serve her well in the GC Military, but Robin also loved hearing her father tell her tales of the covert ops unit that he supervised and she wanted that more than anything else.

During her basic training Robin was driving an A01 when she experienced mechanical failure in the steering and lost control of the vehicle. She went off the side of a cliff and the vehicle was totaled. Her instructor was killed, but Robin suffered injuries and a piece of shrapnel was logged in her left cheek. A search party was launched and 24 hours later Robin was found. Since it was early on in the basic training Robin was told she would have to go through basic again. Though she was cleared of any wrong doing and she got through the psych screening there are those times when Robin is still haunted by what happened. It's not a paralyzing fear but it is something that has left more than a physical scar.

Personality: Robin is very focused on doing what is best for the unit, and views those with her in the unit as family. Robin does have a sarcastic streak and isn’t afraid to use it, but she is never mean about it. Robin enjoys working out, playing cards, playing her saxophone, and jazz.

Alright! First sheets!

Newclib, I'm a little concerned about how Robert is "older than most of his unit" and has "years of experience" on them when he's only 21, and the minimum recruiting age is 18. Also, you referenced Speros in your biography as a part of Robert's deployment rotation. I may have to make this clearer, but Speros is completely closed off for now. So, if you could adjust Robert's age to be a bit older, and just tweaking where he's been stationed, then you're happily accepted. And a bit of formatting wouldn't go amiss, it all sort of runs together at this point - it's nice to have headers differentiated from the body text.

MST3K, I'm afraid I have several deeper grievances with your sheet. Apart from your mentioning that Robin is versed in alien languages - none of which actually exist within our universe - everything up to the biography is well-written and perfectly acceptable, but I am concerned with the events detailed therein. I like Robin's military background, but not that her father can pull strings to get her into a special unit, when most of GCM personnel terms are simple policing duties on the many colonies in the Genesis System, and I'd also have 'unit specialties' designated by NPC's according to player performances in the IC, rather than the players picking for themselves, so to speak.
Beyond that, your AO1 accident is plausible, but not for your registration - basic vehicle command is covered in Boot Camp. Accident, sure, why not, everyone loves a tragic incident in someone's history. But building a homing device while blind? Surviving alone for three days without being able to see, and likely bleeding at least externally, if not hemorrhaging from breaks and fractures? It's just unlikely, and stretches belief.
The artificial eyes are the biggest point. There's very little downside to them, and besides that, medicinal technology is very little beyond what we have currently. Which is impressive, surely - but not complete replacement of the eyes impressive. And getting her father to pull strings - again - to get back in the Military while technically not having eyes? It's just...it makes me uncomfortable.

Tweaks, definitely. Take the base of the character, because I like her, but go a different, more grounded direction with it.

This looks awesome! I'm planning on making a CS soon, but I have one question. I'm leaning towards making a techy/hacker-type character, so could I possibly get some information concerning computers and the like? For example, are they all embedded holographic chips, or are laptops and such still used?

Thanks in advance.

Personal computing devices similar to more-functional Pip-Boys are in development, but there is nothing stable so far. Current computing technology is mostly powerful tablet-like devices rather than laptops, and large server-like supercomputers.

Name:
Andrew Colton

Nicknames:
Drew

Callsign:
Proxy

Gender:
Male

Appearance:
Andrew stands at around 5'11, and possesses a lean, wiry build. He's somewhat young at nineteen years of age, though his face is already a bit weathered from his earlier life. He has short, dark brown hair and dull green eyes, along with a short nose and high eyebrows. Andrew weighs in at roughly 150 pounds.

Skills and Talents:
While a respectable marksman in his own right, Andrew's real strength lies in his vast knowledge of computer science and network security. Because of these two specializations, Andrew possesses a sharp, quick mind accustomed to multitasking, forward thinking, and problem-solving. His thoughts often outpace his actions and words, and due to this he sometimes speaks gibberish or more often mutters under his breath. [[ Thought this part fit best here. ]]

Personal Memento:
A small memory stick filled with photos of his father, attached to a cheap chain and hung around his neck.

Biography:
Andrew grew up on Gaia, his mother a drug addict and his father a senior member of one of the many gangs existing in the crumbling super-city they lived in. As was per usual for those that still lived on the former homeworld of humanity, they lived in severe poverty. Andrew's childhood was marred by almost constant violence due to his father's gang membership, and a lack of anything resembling a parental figure from his mother; though his father tried his best to fill that hole. He was often left alone, to fend for himself in their destitute household. As such, Andrew learned to be independent, relying on himself rather than on others. He took up repairing old, dysfunctional electrical devices in his ample free-time as a means of entertainment, retrieved from the many junk-piles nearby his home. Andrew became increasingly familiar with all the intricacies of dozens of different devices, especially computers, at a rather young age. He managed to fully repair an old but surprisingly well-preserved tablet, which soon turned into his personal computer. He taught himself two coding languages by age thirteen, and after several modifications to the tablet, began exploring various networks at age fifteen.

Soon afterwards his father was killed by a rival gang, who then swooped in and swallowed up his father's gang's territory. His mother disappeared a few nights later, and Andrew never saw her again. Now completely on his own, Andrew began turning an apartment nearby into a makeshift base. He managed to find parts for several broken servers, and created his own air-gapped network. He fixed up the apartment doors to operate through a signal from his tablet, and set up a few cameras near the door to monitor anyone seeking entrance. Now impressively affluent with several different computer systems, Andrew began his foray into network hacking. At first it was somewhat innocent - entering protected networks through backdoors and observing activity - but it soon turned malicious. He began secretly stealing files, and even shutting down some of the networks themselves. This continued on for two years until one day Andrew made a stupid boast to one of his neighbors after infiltrating the local gang's network and the same gang came knocking at Andrew's door. He was able to escape relatively unscathed thanks to his security systems, but it was too close a call for Andrew, and now he was on the gang's wanted list. He decided to join up with the GC Military, coming up with no other favorable alternative. Andrew destroyed his servers and downloaded the photos he had of his father from his tablet onto a portable memory stick, though he regretfully had to leave behind the multitude of high-resolution pornography he also had on his tablet. He only looked back once.

Not too sure about the 'multiple coding languages by thirteen' bit, but otherwise pretty solid. Accepted.

Although, fair warning to others - I'm going to be careful about more characters from Gaia, and more characters whose skills include 'marksmanship' or 'good shot'. There are two other planets to come from, or you could even make up your own moon colony, and the obsession with the sniper archetype is something I'm looking to avoid.

I didn't mean he was fluent in them, but I'll change it regardless. I think it's a bit much now that I'm looking at it again. And by marksman, I simply meant he wasn't a bad shot, though he isn't anything special.

I'm not complaining about the mentioning of marksmanship, but everyone will receive shooting practice in training anyway so that they can shoot well enough to be deployed, and I just don't want people fighting over sniper rifles - or everyone using one.
