Welcome to Unit GC-88, Operation: Eden, a Science Fiction Military Roleplay!GM: Roman | Consultant/Co-GM: Lord Wraith
It is the year 2277. Man has conquered space travel, and has begun the necessity that is colonizing the planets of their local star space, known as the Genesis System. Their home planet, Gaia, is no longer their first choice; it is for the destitute and the unwanted. Those deemed 'valuable' or 'necessary' have been shipped to colonized planets, and everyone else scrapes up what cash they have to get the same opportunity.
As more planets became populated, ruling parties on all colonies formed a collective government, operating as a singular ruling organisation for all colonised planets in the system, known as the Galactic Coalition. The GC runs centrally through the Zion Station, a massive space vessel large enough to harbour a population almost equal to some of the planets that Man colonised, and the only one of its class.
But the Galactic Coalition, however idealistic, sadly cannot keep order throughout the light-years of the Genesis System across the several colonies without a considerable military force. And so, it is a considerable military force that the GC has created - the GC Military. Conscripting from all colonies, and even from Gaia, recruitment is consistently successful, mostly due to fresh recruits being offered free passage to Boot Camp, and a home on one of several colonised planets after two to four successful terms of deployment, depending on each assignment.
You are one such recruit, heading for your training camp on Primitus, the first colonised planet, and now used solely for Coaltion VIP's and military operations. You are awaiting touchdown, preparing for training, and hoping that your deployments will not result in a painful death. For whatever reason you joined up, you're here now, under the employment of the Galactic Coalition. You just hope your new life is better than the one you left.
Gear up, soldier. You're arriving.
Welcome to the 88th Unit of the Galactic Coalition Military. You are a soldier, either freshly conscripted, undergoing training, or currently off-duty from planetary deployment. Shipped in from one of several homes - Gaia, Primitus, Calidum, or one of the moon colonies - you have joined the GC Military for your own reasons, and you will be trained and deployed for the Coalition's reasons.
In this RP, you will be trained, deployed, extracted, put on resting leave, and deployed again. You will become immersed in the Genesis System, Mankind's local solar system, into which they have branched out from their homeworld of Gaia. Your character growth is your own, but your orders are to be followed.
Universe Information:As Mankind grew as a species, they forgot how to look after their world. Their planet,
Gaia, suffered greatly, and as natural disaster wracked the continents, and pollution began to affect the air humans breathed, they looked ever more to the stars for a new home. And by the year
2277, humans have found several new homes within their home planet's local star system - the
Genesis System.
Mankind's home planet, now left derelict. Its landscape is still scarred by the megahighways that connect massive cities that span tens of miles across. The air is dirty and smog is a fact of life. Supplies have slowed down to a trickle, the GC simply moving on from Gaia to supposedly greener pastures. The only residents left are the destitute - too poor to afford tickets off-world - and the chronically criminal, deemed 'dangerous' and 'undesirable' by the Galactic Coalition. As such, life is unpleasant, and a lot of GC recruits come from Gaia; non-criminals seeking an exit and leaping on the offer for a home for their family - if their family can survive that long.
The first colony, populated initially by Coalition VIP's and security squads, and now the central location for GC military operations. A cold and hostile planet; Primitus is known for long rough rocky ranges and blowing snow, only slightly offset by active volcanos around the planet's equator. Primitus, like the military, is tough and unforgiving - which makes it the perfect training grounds the Galactic Coalition's Military. If you can survive Primitus' climate and terrain coupled with the rigorous army drills, you're ready to be deployed anywhere in the system.
Warm, dusty planet, with high terrain. Terramorphing wracked the planet with terrible storms for several days on end, and flattened the peaks of several mountains while filling the lower ground with water that turned a rusted brown from the mud and dirt. Colonies were invariably set up on the newly made highland, and water purification became priority. Some success has been had, but water is still shipped in from off-planet for the communities further away from the water purification stations. As a result, there's high GC military presence, and a lot of the civilian life considers it unnecessary and intimidating. There's rumours of rebellion on the coastal communities, throwing off effective martial law and living as a colony free from Coalition authority. Whether rumours are true, and any unfavourable thoughts are held, remains to be seen.
A small and naturally fertile planet on the outer rim of the Gensis System. The Galactic Coalition has a vested interest in it, but there is no formal colony at this time. It's closed to public and commercial access by the GC.
As new colonies were forged, and communities sprung up and thrived in the way humans are wont to do, it was realized a greater guiding force would be necessary. The ruling bodies of each colony on each planet formed a collective authority, the
Galactic Coalition, keeping order throughout the System - with the help of a considerable military force.
It was an unfortunate inevitability that Mankind's incessant population growth, coupled with its callous behaviour toward the wellbeing of their planet, would necessitate their leaving Gaia for planets yet unscarred by human residency. Space travel was already advanced in the 23rd Century, but as the realisation of off-world colonisation being needed slowly crept up, it was clear that several finishing perfections had to be made if Mankind was to escape the polluted planet they had created.
And so finishing tweaks were made. Slowly, first, then with gathering speed, interplanetary transport on a mass scale approaching with rapid acceleration. Meanwhile, smaller, short-range vessels took essential supplies and hand-picked personell to the nearest planet with a hospitable atmosphere to Gaia, a medium-sized rocky planet named Primitus, colder than their home planet. A small base became the first colony, receiving more supplies and citizens from Gaia, and managed to expand itself across most of the Northern Hemisphere of Primitus within a year. A community sprang up. Humans no longer lived on Gaia alone. They were a species of the galaxy, finally spreading their wings and pushing out into the Genesis System.
After that, colonies were easy. The Genesis System was home to several gas giants, but these planets had solid moons, several of which became host to smaller colonies. After that, Mankind became bolder with colonisation. Experimental terramorphing ran its first trial on Calidum, a hot, dry planet. The planet was changed, scarred, but it became habitable. The second major colony was formed, and with it came the mass acknowledgement that communications between colonies and Gaia was disastrously slow, and as a result, supplies were at a constantly low level. Leaders from Primitus, Calidum, and the larger moon colonies held a meeting in low orbit of Gaia, and a decision was made to create a single umbrella authority for all human colonies, to field requests and distribute supplies at a far faster and far more efficient rate. Operating from a specially constructed space cruiser known as the Zion Station - the only vessel of its class - the Galactic Coalition was born, ready and waiting to watch over Mankind's expansion further into the universe.
A massive space vessel of unique proportions, the Zion Station is designated a 'Keter-Class' vessel, and is the only one of its size. The Zion Station is the central base for all Galactic Coalition operations, and fields thousands of supply requesitions, field orders, colony reports, and several other layers of beuracratic paperwork every day. The potential population of the Zion Station rivals some colonies, but the civilian residents represent a fearfully low percentage of citizens onboard. Instead, the Zion Station is reserved for Coalition residents, harbouring the most of the GC executive staff, and some of the highest ranking GC Military officials. The small number of civilians on board are designated VIP's by the Galactic Coalition - affluent families, great scientific minds, famed strategists, and similar 'desirables'. The Zion Station is mobile, but since its move from the border space of Gaia to stationary coordinates equidistant to Primitus and Calidum, its engines have remained unpowered.
After the birth of the Galactic Coalition, and the christening and subsequent voyage of the Zion Station, it was realised that the cross-world order and peace that the Coalition was founded to protect could not be achieved through hope, good will, and faith in other people alone. It was an unfortunate truth, but in order to enforce order, the Galactic Coalition required some manner of authoratitive force. It was a simple necessity.
And from necessity, the
Galactic Coalition Military was born.
Primitus, the cold, harsh world that had been colonised first, was evacuated of civilian citizens, and became the center of operations for the GC Military. The
Coalition VIP's from Primitus became Zion Station residents, while others were transferred to
Calidum, or the moon colonies.
Recruitment Centres were set up on Gaia and Calidum, as well as one or two of the larger moon colonies - and with the offer of a home for soldiers and their families after terms of deployment, recruits came quickly.
