The confrontation outside was getting out of hand. Or at least, it appeared that way since these people still weren't in class yet. But what could he do? Go outside and help them? Tanaka thought of all the possible pros and cons of doing so. On one hand, he'd no doubt swarm the bully with his presence. After all, three against one was best, and Daichi wasn't the brightest. But that would entail interacting with them, and again, three and one made four, meaning a total of four people to deal with. Tanaka gulped. To him, that was a crowd enough.
"Damnit. Why do I get stuck with all these choices? Shouldn't they belong to the main hero of some manga or anime or something? But if I help out, I'll be considered a hero. . .then, they'll ask me what I want as a reward. . .then I can ask for a month of peace and quiet! Maybe even solitary confinement! That's perfect! It's genius!"
Standing from his desk, he raised a fist in the air and grasped some invisible object in an epic pose.
"Right," he said to no one in particular. "I'll sacrifice my dignity and my health to go help save some first year I don't even know!"
With that, Tanaka leaped from his seat, ran to the front of the still empty room, opened the door, and prepared to make a dashing appearance in the nick of time. Of course, this was hilarious in hindsight considering that he had just literally ran by Minho Sooma without even noticing he was there. He was much too caught up in his own dreams of glorification.
Then the bell rung.
Tanaka deflated as that bell, that goddamn devil's screech signaled the call for everyone to return to class. He didn't even take two steps forward. Then he noticed Student President Kazuhiko and Yumiko Ninomiya standing right outside. He face palmed. He couldn't help it. How long were they standing there exactly?
"Er, morning President Kazuhiko, Ninomiya-san."
A loud bang was heard, and Tanaka raised an eyebrow to see where the noise came from. Then he shook his head to see the usual suspect. Shana Kiotori. Sighing, he went over to her and helped her pick her books up.
"You alright Kiotori-san?"
He was just dying on the inside. This was way too much excitement for him for one day.
