Rosina was starting to get tired of facing off against Geodudes, but she didn't complain. She was confident her Cottonee would be able to take on the gym leaders pokemon.
"Okay Cottonee, quick use energy ball!" she told him. Cottonee formed a green ball before sending it flying at the Geodude. The other pokemon, however dodged it with ease. Afterwards, Brock instructed his pokemon to use harden. Rosina then tried to use energy ball, but again it missed. "Oh no... Dont worry Cottonee. Keep trying to hit it!"
"Cott tonee!" The cysle continued, Cottonee would try to use energy ball, but the Geodude would simply dodge it and use harden. Seeing it was going nowhere, Rosina had decided to try a different approach her next turn. "Geodude, use bide!" Brock told him, his arms crossed and a determined look on his face. "Geo dude!" the pokemon said before crossing its arms and balling up. It had seemed that the pokemon stopped moving, but Rosina wasent familiar with what the move did.
"Okay, Cottonee use grass whistle!" she called out. A soft tune filled the room and Brock along with Rosina both covered their ears. The Geodude fell to the ground looking like an ordinary rock then. "Great, he's asleep! Now Cottonee, use energy ball while you can." she ordered her pokemon. Cottonee had done so, sending out the green ball, but it appeared to not have any effect on the sleeping pokemon. The Geodude simple kept on snoring. Brock as well looked pretty unfazed. After repeating the energy ball about 5 times the Geodude woke up.
What!? That pokemon should have fained three moves ago. Whats going on? she wondered in her head. As if he knew what she was thinking, Broke said "It was harden. My Geodude used it so many times now that its defense is at its max. Dont get me wrong, your energy balls did some serious damage, but in the end, it played out in my favor. Geodude, unleash your bide on that girl's Cottonee!"
The Geodude came flying at Cottonee full speed then and slammed into him, making Cottonee let out a shriek of pain, and before he hit the ground, he had fainted. "What! You made him faint in just one move? How?" she said, feeling worried as she returned him to his pokeball. "That is the effect of the move Bide. It lets your opponent hit the pokemon for a few turns and then unleashed double the damage done. Since your Cottonee put my Geodude to sleep, the effects lasted longer and the energy ball made the power that much greater when he woke up."
Chenching her fists, she took Azul's ball off her belt and tossed it out. "Hang in there Azul!" she said.
"Azurill!" he cried, eager to fight. "Alright, lets finish that pesky Geodude off with a bubble beam!" A fast stream of bubble shot out of her Azurill's mouth and at the Geodude who was too weak to dodge it. The pokemon fainted and Brock took it back, still looking as though he had no care in the world. "Go, Onix." he said tossing out the pokeball. What came out of it was a large snake like pokemon that was made of large stones. Looking with awe for a moment, Rosina took out her pokedex to register it.
"Onix, the rock snake pokemon. As it grows, the stone portions of its body harden to become similar to a diamond, but colored black. It burrows through the ground at a speed of 50 mph while feeding on large boulders. This is what makes its body so solid." the robotic voice said. "Woah." That was all she could say in response. Her tiny little Azul was going to face a monster of a pokemon like that? Rosina almost doubted she could win. Almost.
"Onix, use harden!"
"Dont let him use that move Azul, use bubble beam fast!" she yelled.
"Onix, dodge and use harden!" Brock yelled. His Onix had moved out of the way, dodging by simply moving parts of its body like a snake would, then it used harden. "Good girl, now use rock throw!" Rosina was surprised at how fast this large pokemon was as she told Azul to movwe out of the way. Bouncing on his tail to dodge a few, some smaller ones still hit him painfully, and Rosina swore she felt his pain as well. "Hang in there Azul! Use bubble beam again!" she told him. She had begun to feel disheartened when she saw that the other pokemon just dodged and used another rock throw. Rosina had to come up with something fast or she was going to lose miserably. After a moment she realized....thats it!
"Azul, use attract!" she yelled to the small pokemon. He then started to do what looked like a dance, bouncing on his tail then showing it off. The Onix looked at him for a long moment before it appeared to be smiling. "Onix!" it yelled before lowering its head to look at Azul lovingly. It had worked!
"Onix, What are you doing! Use rock throw on it!" Brock yelled. The Onix had heard him, but instead she had chose to ignore it, immobilized by love. "Ha, i have you right where i want you. Azul, use your strongest bubble beams until you take that Onix out!" she called out. "Azurill!" he pokemon said before continuously barraging the Onix with a flurry of bubbles. After some time the Onix fell back with a loud crash, looking like a long line of boulders. It had fainted. Ecstatic, Rosina jumped high into the air before running to Azul and giving him the biggest hug ever. "Great job Azul. You were amazing."
With a sigh Brock returned his Onix to her pokeball and Rosina ran up to him. "That was the most amazing batte i've ever had, Brock. I see now why your a gym leader." she said to him. He fished into his pocket after giving a smile and pulled out a small shiny object. "Here, this is for you. A Boulder Badge shows your proff of beating me. And take this as well. Its a TM, or technical machine. Use it once to teach your pokemon a move. That one is Bide. If used correctly, it can be a devestatingly powerful attack." he said. Taking the badge and putting it in the container with her Trainer Card, she smiled back at him. "Thank you." she said.
After he gave her a prize money of 1000 pokedollars and bid her good luck, she returned Azul to his ball and skipped out of the gym to the Pokemon Center. Looking up at the sky, she noticed it was dark. She had spent a lot of time in that gym, and wondered how everyone else was doing. She saw that Carter was waiting out in the front of the center and waved to him.
"Carter! Carter! Guess what i just got!" she said happily, running up to him and showing him her first badge. "I couldn't have done it without my pokemon, so i need to heal them. It's late and they need a well deserved good nights sleep." she said, walking into the center and getting her pokemon all patched up. Turning to Carter, she asked "Have you seen Lance or Erin? I dont remember seeing them at the gym." she said, walking towards the room he'd rented that had a few various seperate beds. Taking both pokemon out of their balls, she tucked both of them into one of the beds and almost immediately, they went to sleep. She had gotten a bowl of food from Nurse Joy and set it on the table in the middle of the room for them when they got hungry.
"Want to just wait for Erin and Lance before we catch some shut eye?" she asked her friend.
