Well, since he wasn't born yet when the Order was founded, I don't think he'd exactly recognize her. I guess he's just never heard of her. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I mean....thats like being an american and not hearing about someone like John Handcock. Or Stonewall Jackson. Or Abe Lincoln.
Like, there is a difference between not recognizing a famous person immediately and stone faced ignorance of your own countries history.

The Knights are a paramilitary group founded by the clergy over two hundred years ago. The equivalent to not knowing their founder would be not knowing who formed the 7th Cavalry Regiment back in 1866.

The president? You were kidding with that, right?

Ok. But you said it yourself. A founding member. A literal founder. One of maybe less than ten individuals who set up the whole of the organization in which we as PCs are operating.
And set up in a major period of civil unrest.
Lead by a religious figure whose contribution was so significant it is literally a corner stone of Thaln's culture. Both in a religious and martial context.
I'm not saying every founding member needs a 11 foot statue with their name embossed in gold on the base depicting them farting rainbows and healing the sick, but I think 'name X number of folks who literally we owe the whole of our existence to' might be on the entrance exam. Especially if some of those people are still alive and active members.

  • Gutta is not from Thaln, as established in the pedantry a few pages back with not-German and not-French nomenclature.
  • He's not illiterate, but reading clearly isn't one of his hobbies; as established in my bio.
  • The event he's supposed to know all the faces from (not to mention that one of them is undead and still walking around, because that's a thing to reasonably expect in everyday life) happened over two hundred years ago.
    • No, not her name; her face. She hasn't told him his name. She's just stepped up to him to interrupt his conversation with her sick Dr. Manhattan impression.
  • According to Merilia's app she went "exploring" after the knights' foundation.
  • According to my app and character posts, my character has not been in the knights for 200 years; closer to a few months short of one.

So going back to the Declaration of Independence example, you're not really asking an American who John Hancock was. You're asking a German peasant who doesn't read who Thomas Heyward, Jr. was.

I remind you that Hancock, Franklin, Adams, and Jefferson, the most famous of the Declaration signers, went on to do other immediate things in the public eye: presidency, invention, humorist writing and publishing, and so on. People all across the country are much less likely to remember a judge; or in this case, an "explorer."

It sounds to me like she's been resting on her laurels for 200 years and expects everyone to still fawn at her feet for the one significant thing she did over two centuries ago, but what do I know? She has a portrait downstairs, a novelty literally anyone with enough money can commission from an artist!

Right, so it's pretty reasonable IMO not to know that she exists. She's the Heyward to Elionne Carthet's Hancock, you could say.

Though if she has written a kickass memoir about her "exploration," let me know. That'd be a real game-changer.

To be fair, Viking-sempai and his mighty beefy arms are much more interesting that some washed up crone.

Gutta wants to hog all that manmeat for himself, the greedy dog.

I mean, you're trying to be sarcastic, but...yeah. Having a character with overt emotional shortcomings—in this case, a shyness unbecoming of the not-Nordics living north of Thaln—intrigues me a lot more than trying to blackmail me OOC into conceding your character is a world-renowned badass. Show don't tell applies here as much as in any other medium of fiction.

If you see a picture more than once day for even a month but never the person it corresponds to, then they show up... failure of recognition is the strange response. I'm not sure why you're trying to caricature it to demanding instant worship. I said he's got odd definitions of unusual; none of this really goes against that.

I don't see how that can justify or explain only responding to one character properly. Isn't the point of joining new roleplays to interact with other people? :T

I've made some additions and put Nero in the CS, same page as her sister.

@VitaVitaAR, I am confused about a couple of things...

1-What is the overall perception of gender equality in this setting? Cause I am seeing inconsistent sources and interpretations.

2-This was high fantasy, right?

Every deity is female, every clergyman is female, every prophet-child born when the stars align over the altar of Baphomet every 100 years with the blood-sacrifice of a virgin goat is female. I figured the agenda here was obvious.

Doesn't stop sexist characters from existing, though.

What obvious agenda? I mean it is a fantasy setting with some quirks but...

I don't get it.

@AtomicNut: 1. Genders are considered fully equal, as it makes no sense really for there to be any other belief due to their worship of paired lesbian goddesses. As I have tried to make clear, there's no real differences in opportunities between the sexes(aside from religious positions requiring a specific gender). One of the few examples of this is the traditional appointment of a maiden born on a full moon to the position of Captain of the Iron Roses, in remembrance of Saint Elionne.

Fanilly's intended to be doubted for her age and inexperience, not for her gender, to put it simply.

Other cultures may have slightly different views, but in terms of this country and those surrounding it, it really doesn't make much sense considering the history of the setting for there to be gender discrimination either way.

2. High Fantasy, for sure. While I take inspiration from real-world countries I'm definitely not trying to replicate real life, what with the dwarves and elves and orcs and monsters and magic and all.

@pugbutter: Only the deities mentioned are female. As for NPCs, I'll be honest and say it's because I have trouble finding good images for male NPCs(since I like sticking to an anime style given the ideas behind the RP), and I also struggle with drawing guys. I'm sorry you seem to think there's an 'agenda' of some sort, but there's not. If someone's willing to help me find images for male NPCs I'll gladly take their assistance.

If you don't like the setting established by the GM then maybe this RP isn't for you. Rather than try to change something that everyone here before you seems happy with it might be more productive and mature to have a go at creating your own RP.

Descriptive, not normative.

And characters don't exist in a vacuum. Makes it rather strange that someone would have views with no in-setting practical or cultural basis then end up the exact opposite of their views. There's a point character attitudes unhealthily conflict with the roleplay.

@Fyre Unholy I think you fail to understand the idea of "moving to be ahead of someone" and "straight lines are quicker". More politely... I said that she moved to be ahead, and she has clear advantages in both those dimensions. "But they were already gone" isn't a counter when walking down a corridor. :T

Though, really, if you two are so eager to roleplay with each other and not the rest of the characters... why not start your own roleplay? It would be much more convenient than deliberately ignoring or trying to work around everyone already in this one. :P
