Sorcha & Luna
Sorcha had taken awhile to complete the lap, taking a long slow route high above the city to calm herself. Luna wasn't happy in the least, which meant she wasn't happy. But it was difficult. A wise old dragon, too far set in her ways to accept any other viewpoints other than her own without someone literally possibly beating it into her. Story of her life, really.
She knew she could try being a little nicer, but at the moment all she could manage without just shoving the opposing lizard out of her home, was what she was already doing. She hadn't a clue what she could do. She could likely figure out what Luna wanted out of this easily enough, with a little thought…but she wasn't sure if she could actually do it.
With an irritable growl, she turned from the skies, diving right back towards the dorm and entering in her usual fashion. Through the window. She sat herself down on the floor with a rather audible thud, giving Luna cool look, though she didn't immediately say anything.
After Maoin had left, Luna had made busy. Sol was still asleep, so Luna decided to make a small bit of breakfast. There was some of the ham leftover from last night and she put a couple of things together that would probably be easier on the stomach. As she was cooking, she didn’t have to look back to know it was Sorcha returning. ”Welcome back.” She said, putting her cooking utensils down and turning to her number one familiar. ”I’m guessing you either figured out the hidden rule and don’t want to do it, or you haven’t and you’re irritated with me because of that.”
She walked a bit closer to the dragon before speaking again. ”I assume you’ve figured out my plan at least. Maoin has seem to at least… Though, she could stand to not assume I wouldn’t do things on my own if she weren’t around. That girl has some poor manners at times.” The Knightess didn’t really seem to think about what she did earlier. ”Perhaps I should ask, why do you think I treat Avaline well?”
"Because you have no reason not to." Sorcha replied, huffing lightly. "It is different for me. It's not that I wish to be, but that I must" Not the whole truth, but far from a lie. "It is simply the way our kind have always treated each other. Wyrms are, and always will be lower than us, and I have no reason to be anything other than coldly civil."
Luna stood and listened to Sorcha. ”Hmm, well, I can understand. At the same time though…” She put her hand up to her head as if in thought, before lowering it and looking Sorcha in the eyes. ”I doubt you’d even try to think of it this way… Or even want to… But maybe you could think of her as family? You’re both my familiars and I’d love to get you two to like each other. You could think of her as a stupid little sister or something of the sort.” The Knightess giggled a little bit. ”I must admit she’s not all up there.
"Luna," Sorcha sighed, adjusting her stance slightly, putting most of her weight on her right foot. "It's harder than that." She curled her wings around her, crossing her arms across her chest lightly. "I have a certain…image to upkeep. I am a dragon. A Grand Dragon who was once a queen, mind you. Granted, it hasn't happened in a while but were I to meet another dragon and they saw me even tolerating her presence I'd immediately become less of a dragon and more of a prideless hatchling." Sorcha gave a sideways glance towards the window. It was honestly, somewhat of an excuse.
"…and to a dragon, Family means far less then you think it does. Granted we tend to mate for life so long as our partner lives, but we are terrible with siblings and children. Most dragons hardly ever meet their children…and for siblings, well…" She made a motion with one of her wings. "Let me just say that we are solitary creatures by nature. We don't have 'sisters'. The only reason I am currently tolerating her, is because of you."
”Is that so?” Luna asked, turning away from Sorcha to attend the food. ”I suppose I understand. In a way. It seems unreasonable to my human sensibilities though. Or, perhaps it’s just a Lightsword thought.” She was mostly just trying to hide the slight disappointment on her face. ”I believe everyone deserves a chance. Peasant or noble. Aside from the original… Incident, I believe Avaline has shown herself to be a good girl. I wish my most dependable partner and her would get along well.” She said, whispering lightly the last part, ”But I suppose I was hoping for the impossible.”
"…I suppose you haven't seen me when I…converse with others, have you?" Sorcha continued with a frown. "Of course, they all deserve a chance, but a Queen cannot treat the peasants the same as she treats someone in a position that you are in, or other nobles." It wasn't exactly easy to admit to Luna, since Sorcha knew she wouldn't like hearing it. But it was the truth. Aside from Luna and Maoin, and a few…other people, she mostly treated everyone with a cool distance. "Of course, I am not harsh or cruel or mean. I just keep the others at a respectable distance as it should be."
"It is…worse for Wyrms and Wyverns. Dragons such as myself, consider us to be the true dragons. The perfect dragons. Wyrms and Wyverns are simply weaker and lower than us by nature. Our pride will not allow us to accept them as anything other than trash, otherwise we feel as though we give up that title." For many dragons, it was the only real thing they felt they had. At least, that's how she always felt for the longest time. Pride was hollow, like that. "If I accept her, then you are effectively telling me I am no longer a dragon."
Luna just went silent for a minute. Unsure, of what to say. It didn’t seem like she would change Sorcha’s mind. ”...” She silently gathered together some food and put it on a plate. ”If you want to relax, then you should eat quickly and go finish up with the goal of the exercise. Eat before you go, though. You get the first bite today, okay?” She handed the plate over to Sorcha.
Sorcha frowned, taking the plate.
"…I will try. But telling a dragon to lose their pride, is like trying to change the seasons."
”I just want you to guide her back here with Maoin.” Luna said, still disappointed.
"…that is all?" Sorcha replied, mildly confused. "That was this hidden condition?" She smiled slightly, rolling her eyes a bit. "Luna, dear, it's…going to take a little getting used to. I'm an old dragon who's not so easily swayed. It's difficult to change ones way of thinking and beliefs after so many years of having them…All I can do is promise to try, but…"
”I never was realistically asking you to make friends with her, as much as I wish it were so.” Luna said, continuing to look at Sorcha. ”At the very least I want you not to scare Avaline into a practical panic every time you get angry at her for whatever reason.”
"It's not like I'm trying too." Sorcha replied with a sigh. "And she called me fat."
”You called her ‘thing’ to be fair. Now then, taste it and tell me what you think. It’s not Maoin’s or the tavern’s, but I think it’s rather good.” Luna said, looking to Sorcha rather expectantly. She obviously really wanted Sorcha’s opinion. It was a fairly simple pork dish, so it was nothing really amazing.
"Hmm…" Sorcha took a bite out of the meat, silently contemplating it a few seconds. It certainly wasn't the best, but it certainly wasn't bad either. Had a certain…strong quality to it? She wasn't quite sure. "Could maybe be a little more…well done." The dragon said after a few seconds. "but It certainly is good." She gave Luna grin. "Maaaybe cook for me from now oooon?~" She hopped a bit closer to Luna.
Luna chuckled slightly. ”Hehe. I doubt Maoin would let me cook. She seemed greatly against it last night. But, maybe I’ll cook in the near future.” She added, scratching the back of her head.
"Tsk, no fun." Sorcha gave Luna her best pout. "Your food is ten times better than Maoin's." She grinned, quickly finishing the food. "Ahem, I suppose though, that I should be going. Knowing that lizard she's likely either gotten herself lost, or has dragged Maoin halfway across the city by now."
”That’s true. She’s innocent at heart, but she has no real sense of direction. Anyhow, I’m putting my trust in you. I’m sure you wouldn’t betray me, would you?” She added with a smile.
"Sense of direction is the least of her problems." Sorcha grumbled. "And of course! I would never do something like that." She scoffed, genuinely pouted a bit at the suggestion. "Anyways, tell Sol I said Hi. I'll look for her and make sure she's not gotten into any trouble." Unless Luna did anything else, Sorcha would once again leave through the window in her usual fashion.
Avaline & Maoin
"Ah!" Avaline visibly lit up at having the coins tossed to her. "Yes! Thank you!" She didn't comment on Maoin's other comments. Obviously if she was being nice to her, then she didn't mean anything bad at all! She gave Maoin a happy smile before slithering quickly into the place the cat had pointed out. Needless to say, having a dragon just barge in like she owned the place, was not something the shop keeper was used too - for a brief moment, he panicked before realizing the lizard was staring more at the coins in her claws than him.
"...erm...can I help you?"
"Yes! How much fish will these shiny coins get me?" She shoved the coins into his face.
"Uhm..." He took the coins from the lizard, the older man taking a few seconds to count them before looking at her and the fish on sale. "You want...fish." Avaline nodded eagerly, holding her claws together in an endearing child-like fashion as she looked at the man hopefully. "Hmm..." The man rubbed his chin a bit, taking one of the fish and waving it in front of Avaline's face. She couldn't help but to follow each movement of it, mouth open and drooling slightly at the sight of it. And then, in one swift motion he tossed the fish into the air...and Avaline followed, leaping backwards in a fairly agile manner, catching the fish in her mouth as she started chewing on it.
"Delishous!" The Wyrm replied, causing the man to laugh.
"Here!" He handed her five fish, along with her money back. "For making an old man laugh." Avaline looked at the fish, the money, then back to the man.
"W-waaah? You mean it?" Avaline looked absolutely ecstatic before coughing and doing her best 'grand dragon' impression. "I-I mean! Your offering has pleased me human! Yes! So much so that I will frequent this establishment more!" This caused the man to laugh again as Avaline took the fish from him, holding them between each of her claws. "Now if you'll excuse me I have to escort small cat Maoin so she doesn't get lost!" Despite her attempts to take a more regal and dignified tone, her tail was doing a poor job of keeping her happiness concealed. Even so, she slithered back over to Maoin looking quite pleased with herself.
"Small cat Maoin! I bring food! Oh, and money you can have it back."
Livia
"Aha...well, first things first...being both a man and a woman is nothing special," She mused, smirking coyly at Selvina. But yes, she had expected this much at least. She wanted a job here. Nothing out of the ordinary. Many students who came here wanted a job at some point. After all, the rest of the world wasn't as kind to magic users sometimes. That said though...Selvina had been a constant, though unwitting, thorn in her side quite a bit. If such a trend continued, it'd be rather...annoying, to say the least. As well, her 'family ties' were something that concerned her a bit.
She didn't get along with blue-bloods at all. She was of noble lineage too of course, but she considered herself a mostly self made woman. She didn't use her parents money, or hide behind some gods power. All of it was her own.
"Hmm...well, I already had a librarian position lined up, though he perhaps isn't what you're expecting." She mused. "So that position is off the table." Livia grabbed her teacup, taking a sip of the contents. "As for researchers...I'll put it bluntly. You want to, fine, but I'll need to see some accomplishments of your own and how well your own discoveries are. So if you want to spend time working on that, go right ahead." Livia sat the cup down. "Which leaves just the teacher position...but I digress, I am not too eager to hire someone who has no experience teaching others...or comes from a blue-blooded background. Many teachers and staff here come from commoner origins." She let her words sink in for a bit, shuffling a few papers on her desk. Truthfully, she really didn't want to hire Selvina, but the potential pros of doing so outweighed her personal cons at the moment. She could be a useful tool, whatever happened.
"So I think what we could do is something like this. You will...'apprentice' under a teacher for a few months to a year. You will help them with their tasks and you'll get first hand experience. Of course, I will pay you, though it won't be anything like what the actual teachers get paid. During this time, if you so happen to research something that is anything substantial, I will consider funding your research personally."
Chione
"Mhm, yes, a jog sounds nice." Chione replied. "I am eager to see how well my body has kept up with its age...though I have a feeling spending a few hundred years in a tomb doing nothing but cleaning it and prayer doesn't do well for ones physical ability." She chuckled in a mildly self depreciating manner. "But worry not, this body shall not break or falter so long as I keep focused." It was the truth, more or less. She hadn't done anything but what she had mentioned for the last few hundred years. Aside from the occasional attempts at grave robbery that she had to deal with...but such things were dealt with easily.
Miren
"O-oh? I don't know?" Miren replied honestly. "Hopefully you'll just be...better? They mentioned its like some sort of lock on your mind, which is dampening your ability to function." Realizing Eith may not have entirely understood that bit, Miren continued. "For example, it's dulled your mind. Made it less sharp, and perhaps is limiting you in some way." That was the best Miren could do to explain it, though she wasn't confident that Eith would entirely understand at the moment.
