@balthazar007 MWAHAHAHA LEVEL

But, other than that, I'll be PM'ing you about organizations since I now have enough points :3
On another note, does the 'skilled' trainer I make start with Pokemon? 'Cuz if not that's kinda awk, so can he/she start with at least one evolved one?

"To achieve this rank, you must have caught six Pokemon. You must have participated in at least one battle, win or lose. And you must travel to one location besides your starting location."

Above are the minimum requirements to become a skilled trainer. Therefore, it is safe to say that, at the very least, your trainer should have six Pokemon and one of them should be at level 2 because of battling. I'd even go as far as to say that ALL SIX of your Pokemon will be at level 2, because hey, you could have had a six on six battle. Starting off with six free bottom tier Pokemon should be enough of a head start, no middle tier Pokemon.

Great questions everyone!!! Very helpful to all of us!

@Balthazar007 Yay, both my Pokemon are Level 2!

Ok, I have an idea for a new location. When I post and get my 10th CP, do you want me to PM you?

Exactly, I will work the details out with you through PMs. Eventually, all the guidelines will be found in that opening OOC post. But for now, I'm going to work one on one with each person.

@balthazar007 Rather than having 6 pokemon at level two, would you be able to give me the option of having one Pokemon at level six and just owning a total of six Pokemon? This way the character created has more flexibility, especially if the character I'm creating is attached to one specific Pokemon.

I'll do you one better! Having six Pokemon at level 2 meant that you had 12 levels in total between all of them. I will allow you to divide those 12 levels up among your 6 Pokemon in whatever way you like. That means you can have one level 7 Pokemon and five level 1 Pokemon, OR you can have one at level 4, three at level 2, and two at level 1. I'll leave the distribution of those 12 levels up to you.

Minor Update:

I have done a major bit of work on the implementation of missions this morning, but they are still not quite live yet. I also slightly edited battle stats (Health Points and Power Points) in order to make potions and elixirs more relevant. Now I must get ready for my IRL job.

Thanks Again!

@Balthazar007 Given the outcome of the battle was obvious Dusk and decided how the battle would go over PM.

@balthazar007 I think me and @eklispe came to the conclusion that the person who attacks first in battle generally wins since there's no mechanism about how the hit actually works. You stated that it's not wise to put in all of a Pokemon's EP into the first move, but doing so would force the other trainer to expend equal EP and therefore be left with less EP for their own attack. Because of this, the challenger/first attacker basically always wins.

Eklispe, confirm?

This doesn't surprise me. I kind of expected that result here in the beginning. As you get more Pokemon and battle items, as well as special items, this problem will start to fade away. Also, each time you rank up, you will gain another skill as a trainer to use in battle. For instance, as a skilled trainer, you will be able to add your Pokemon's status affliction behind your attacks. (e.g. Fire Pokemon can inflict "burn" on the opponent and Flying types can raise their own "evasiveness".) This will be explained fully later. Basically, just understand that battles at the beginner level are only a learning experience designed to make sure you understand the basics.

Ah well, after doing some math checking every possibility it turns out that in the 4 outcomes from a level 2 pokemon using 6 EP on the first turn the defender wins 2 and ties 1 and loses 1. After another look spending way to much time calculating possibilities I'm not entirely sure I like it still but I'm not gonna say it's inherently flawed until I do something a bit less lazy and actually work it out every outcome, plus I haven't figured out how stratgey changes at higher levels. Which I'm actually avoiding kind of because its getting into hardcore metagaming but I also don't like losing. Very conflict. Though it is a bit disheartening to know that there's no way to beat someone higher level than you with equal elements, but somewhat reasonable.

Also relavant question. 1 hp. Can use struggle? 2hp. Can use struggle and deal dmg but still self KO, opening up room for ties?

Yes that does open the room for ties. You can still set awards between yourselves in the case of a tie. All I'm concerned with on my end is focusing on making sure you get all your points and levels from each battle.

You're right, without a distinct type advantage, the trainer with the higher leveled Pokemon is bound to win. That's why I suggest that the person with the level advantage be chivalrous and give their opponent the first attack, since we all see that also gives a distinct advantage... at least for now. My advice is to catch as many Pokemon as you can and level them up as much as possible. That way your opponent is less sure of what you will pull out of your pocket next.

Yes, it does get more gaming like at higher ranks, but ranks become exponentially harder to achieve as you progress. By the time you make it to a new rank, I expect most people will be more than ready to add more spice and strategy to their battles.

All these battle mechanics are meant to create a fairness that can't be attained in straight text based battles. For instance, someone dodges one too many attacks or has a Pokemon that JUST WON'T GO DOWN.

But with all this in mind, I am very serious about accepting feedback from others. I will take everything that you two have said into account. I will be adding a second, simplified, text focused battle system. People can then alternate between the two depending on their mood.

That's cool. No worries. I'm busy juggling IRL conversations and reading through all the IC posts. I'll get to your post soon.

On that note, as our active user base grows, I am going to need some help from others to keep up with everyone's posting. Are there any volunteers that would be willing to help? I will give first consideration to people with the most active posting status, since you're more invested already.

Yes, basically. But first, I need to have a clear picture of who all will be helping me with this. I will then start a separate PM thread for all people involved. That way we can stay focused and not double count any posts or anything like that.
