I wanna try something way different.

I've been having a thing for cars recently. Well, any car that's sportsy or a sport sedan. And I've been wondering, what would it be like to have a roleplay about street racers? Just a little experiment I'd like to try out. I'm thinking of a plot for it as well, that isn't bad and cheesy, I just want to know what some of ya'll think. That's all.

I've always wanted to do a racing RP as well, but had no idea who else would be interested. There was also the question of how exactly a race would work in an RP setting, but I imagine you've already got/are getting that figured out.

...

Good luck with getting enough interests checked. You have mine for certain, and I'm looking forward to this being my first RP on this site :]

Basically, the idea for the racing mechanic is simple! Well, only if you would want to go with it. I'll roll a virtual dice, and choose who speeds off faster. The more numbers you get on the dice, the more MPH get added to your top speed only in that race.

I have another idea, a more realistic one, where I check out your cars and see which is faster. Then tell you who realistically would win in a race unless they slipped up.

If you any suggestions for a racing mechanic, please suggest it.

Anyways, here's the idea: It might take place in a future, unless you want it to be modern/NFS: Underground-ish.

If they're doing quarter mile only that would be fine, but on a normal race, what if someone wants to play dirty and, for example, try to crash another driver? I say give it a shot for us to just write the outcome, and if that doesn't work then try to invent a system. *shrug*

I think a dice system would be good but Forsythe is right. We still have to take those into calculation. How about something kind of tabletop-esque that gives a better car a higher chance to avoid a fail roll and the like. And if someone attempts to cheat, we roll to see if it's successful or if the other racer manages to dodge or recover from it.

I think the racing mechanic makes sense I like the idea of writing the outcome and basing abilities realistically, but the other aspect to look at is the outside perspective. What do you do by day And what do you do in the underground community? Because if anyone knows anything about these things there is more to it than just racing and not everyone is a racer every time.

I feel we'd also need to take sharp corners into consideration as well. There's always that one guy that stuffs up such a corner which can ultimately cost him the race if he's not careful. Other than those, I'm fine with a virtual dice present behind the scenes... if only in case none of us wind up being able to decide who should win what race and who should come dead last in what race (among all the other positions :/)

@Chaotic Chao Will there be any kind of restriction on what cars our characters would have access to? Or would one of us be able to race around in an exotic, for example, on the condition that the rest of the cars have been tuned up enough to compete with it?

Well, of course the characters are not going to always be racing.

As for playing dirty, hmmm. I'm thinking maybe that a certain number in that virtual role would let you get to slam in anybody NEAR you, or in front of you.

And sharp corners, a certain virtual roll would possibly also send them flying into the wall. There's 50% percent chance of them actually being unable to drive anymore. Well, if they have even a second horrible virtual roll that is.

And like I said, I think actually maybe going for a realistic term of cars for this might would make sense. Which car is actually the fastest in real life, could win in the roleplay. But I'm not sure if ya'll would like that.

Anyways, I'm thinking maybe you would get to drive exotic cars. I'm thinking of the 'young and rich' type of racers anyways.

@Chaotic Chao I'm p sure the racers will want to fix up their cars with new parts so that'll have to be taken into consideration.

Also, just wondering because I missed this from an earlier post... Do you mean near future or sci-fi future because I read that and I imagine flying cars. XD

I've been thinking about a heavily modified car actually, with different engine and whatnot rather than just a tune up. How'd you judge that?

The problem with using dice is the possibility of a really good racer being easily beaten by a really bad one. In reality, a great racer has much smaller odds of making mistakes than a new driver, but dice give no such advantage to the more experienced. That would mean that we would all have to have the exact same driving experience (which...we probaby don't). IE, sharp corners are not difficult, given you know how to drift, slow down in time, etc.

What I have seen before is this: A racing RP in which classes separate players based on car class and driver ability (S class, A class, B class, C class, etc). Both a player's driving knowledge and their selected car factor into what class they are allowed to run. Then, I feel like it would be fair to assume that all drivers within a certain class have a similar enough skill level and that dice would become a viable determining factor.

Alternatively, as mentioned, "dirty" drivers, and driving in general, could operate like a T1 arena RP does, where action are posted as attempted actions and reactions are realistic given the circumstances.

@Forsythe I imagine our current car knowledge would have to suffice in placing a modded car relative to its competitors. If needed I can do that. Iv'e got 8 years experience as an automotive and small engine mechanic, race motocross professionally, and have been in my fair share of definitely legal street races.

@sMoKe legal in a sarcastic manner or is definitely stressed literally? Tbh I have never been in a legal race in my life and your experience is awesome. I'm not trying to make assumptions for anyone. But I'm glad there is someone else here who for a fact has knowledge not based on movies.

Again i can not stress the fact that I do not mean to be rude or make assumptions. I don't know anyones experience with cars.

Hello Chao, nice to see you again.

If you are up for it, we could make it a little anime/slice of life ish something akin to Initial D or Drift Girls or my fave Ridge Racer 4

I'd be happy to help you make a city for the RP if youd like.

@Chaotic Chao Monday sounds good. I already have my character in mind and can't wait to get it out there

Although quick question for everyone here: Would all the vehicles built in Japan typically have left-hand drive or right-hand drive? I know that America has left-hand drive vehicles and England has right-hand drive vehicles, but am curious to see where the Japs fit into this :/
