I'm actually quite curious about this point. The hunters had every opportunity to kill the visible witch (Shai) at any point in the melee, so much so that one could've easily cut her down and called collateral damage.

The only reason Phoebe hasn't done anything yet, was because Shai was helping, and there was a more serious threat at present. She might be a bit of a zealot, but she does use her head most of the time.

Now that the gnomes have been dealt with...well. She's gonna ignore her ex the silly hunter saying hi and proceed to do what a hunter does best.

I could imagine that it's because char kill is neither allowed (so far, in general without explicit agreement I think) nor a desired action (at least that's what I'd expect). However once any hunter recognizes her as a witch, he's basically obliged to do exactly that. So the alternative choice is to not discover her in the first place.

For my part I can add that my character is not necessarily a hunter yet. He has great anger against gnomes because they destroyed his home, but his own biography already bringts him close enough to witches that he is more open minded at not entirely preset. At least that's his current mindset which could be subject to change as the roleplay progresses.

Coming back to the reason I've stated previously, there is one obvious, additional question: Why did Shai decide to go into the lion's cave if it's so risky ?

I think one of the reasons that our little dragon witch is going to stay alive is because a master level hunter is currently standing between her and the more... zealous of the hunter pack right now.
