  • Name: Persephone Unit Rho
  • Age: 3
  • Gender: Female
  • Appearance: "Daedalus System: Online." She is about 5'1.
  • Personality: Rho is a quiet and reserved individual. At this point in her life, everything is all for her mission, the penetration of the enormous tower in the Apocrypha. To be truthful, she doesn't honestly know what will happen, but her programming, everything, has told her that she must get inside, to end the threat posed by the Apocrypha. In spite of her single-minded focus and her nature, Rho is actually highly expressive. She has felt increasing desperation and frustration at her attempts to enter the tower consistently failing. Rho is awkward in social interaction, coming across as somewhat shy. She has trouble understanding why others would show concern for her, due to her nature as a weapon designed for combat against the creatures within the Apocrypha. However, she is deeply concerned for others, immediately attempting to defend any humans with little concern for what fate befalls her. In her mind, she is machine and a weapon whose purpose is the elimination of all threats that the Apocrypha poses and the defense of humanity. Rho struggles with understanding certain phrases that are not entirely literal. Compliments on her appearance will be entirely lost on her.

Rho has no conception of a purpose to her existence beyond her mission, and as such she has no belongings or indeed no home. She entertains no thoughts of obtaining any of this, as it does not relate to the purpose of her existence. In spite of this seemingly detached approach to her existence, Rho is in fact extremely lonely, everyone she has ever known apparently dead. At the same time, she does not believe a weapon needs to attempt to form bonds with others, and as a result makes no attempt at social contact. The robotic girl also becomes very distressed at the sight of dead animals, especially those killed violently and especially dogs. There may also be other reasons Rho is reluctant to form any kinds of friendships.

Additionally, she blames herself for failing to protect everyone during the catastrophe that destroyed A.R.C and, as she believes, all her fellow units.
  • Skills: Rho is entirely without practical life skills, likely due to her nature. As a robotic Persephone Unit, however, her aim is as accurate as possible for an artificial intelligence. Advanced calculations are child's play to her(and indeed, required for the deployment of some of her weaponry) due to her nature, as well. In spite of her strength and agility, she is inferior in melee combat in comparison with other units that may have been more focused on that area of battle.
  • Equipment: Rho herself, as a Persephone Unit, is technically a piece of equipment. She is much more durable then a human being and can be repaired from extensive damage. She is also strong enough to lift a car by herself easily, and quite agile, aided by miniature rockets in her feet. Her design is simply to overwhelm the enemy with extreme firepower. Inside her body is stored a wide variety of different weaponry collectively known as the Daedalus System.
    • Anti-Material Chainguns: Rho can produce a pair of chainguns from her lower back, which she then manually aims using her hands in order to maximize accuracy. These chainguns are capable of tearing through most basic targets.
    • Wrist-Mounted Submachine Guns: Both of the small gauntlets attached to Rho's wrists are actually submachine guns, allowing for a quick response to targets. However, they are short-range and less accurate, as well as less penetrating.
    • Hip-Mounted Grenade Launchers: Rho has a pair of grenade launchers that can extend from her hips, exposing racks of grenades that she can launch one at a time. These grenades arc and explode on a short delay.
    • Micro-Missile Systems: Racks of missiles stored in Rho's legs, these are a more directed and accurate explosive weapon that can be deployed in large clusters.
    • Anti-Refraction Gravitational Ordinance Cannon: Her most powerful weapon, however, is the A.R.G.O cannon, an enormous energy cannon that extends from her back. Firing it, however, immediately causes her to overheat and be unable to use any of her weapon systems for quite some time. Overuse of this powerful weapon can also backfire and cause serious damage to her systems due to the sheer heat generated from the beam's firing.
  • Soul Arts: N/A
  • Brief Backstory: Rho is the seventeenth Persephone Unit. The Persephone Units were created by the shadowy A.R.C, the Apocrypha Research Center. Having discovered the warped mirror world of the Apocrypha five years prior, a secretive institute was formulated in order to research it. They discovered something terrible, that a horrible threat was rising that could be disaster for the real world beyond anything ever seen before. But no human could enter the Apocrypha and most drones they deployed were eventually destroyed. As a result, they developed the Persephone Units. Named for the figure from Greek mythology, the Persephone units could utilize the reflection of the moon to make a transit to the Apocrypha themselves, under their own power. Unfortunately, after a terrible disaster, the facility was ravaged, all personnel apparently killed, along with every Persephone Unit aside from Rho herself. In spite of this, Rho has attempted to continue her mission, visiting the Apocrypha every night in order to try and enter the enormous tower. So far she has met no success.

  • Name: Motoyama Keita
  • Age: 17
  • Gender: Male
  • Appearance: "Let's get this show on the road, I guess."
  • Personality: Keita's a bit eccentric as far as people go; he's always sharply dressed regardless of the situation, which occasionally makes him stand out in the middle of a crowd of normal high school students. This stands in contrast with his own organization, though, as whenever computers aren't involved, things tends to become cluttered rather easily. Regardless of that, though, he is confident in his abilities to handle whatever comes up... Preferably as a manager or strategist, though. So long as someone else can handle everything on the front-end, Keita's content handling everything from behind the scenes of from afar, even if his own desires inevitably end up with him sticking his head into that, too. It works out well enough most of the time, though, but it can get a bit aggravating to those working with him. He is not egotistical, though; while his pride may interfere with his actions on occasion, Keita will ultimately place finishing an assignment over anyone's spotlight (including his own). He is dead serious when it comes to work ethic, though; he'll pick up the slack if someone falls behind, but after a certain point he'll start ranting nonstop about a peson not doing their part.
  • Skills: Keita's a programmer at heart, so as long as he understands the language and whatever code he's looking at, he should be able to understand how it functions to some degree... Then possibly copy, change, or otherwise manipulate it as he wishes. He also has some experience working with figures and models (which stems from an older sister who loves working with them), but is usually better off working from reference rather than pure imagination.
In other words, don't make him draw anything. Even his sketches suck.
He can cook multiple styles of food quite well, though. Cool dad is cool.
  • Equipment: A watch, wallet, smartphone, and keys to his home. If the stuff in his backpack (as well as the backpack itself) counts, then that too.
  • Soul Arts: Con Anima: Keita gives form to an object within his imagination, which he is then able to control with a combination of magical puppet strings or pre-programmed commands. When he is in direct control, the resultant object is much more mobile and powerful than it would be otherwise. The object is limited in scale by his own abilities, though, and at most can only be about 1.5 cubic feet in size at the moment. If enough energy is funneled into an object, it can maintain form indefinitely; the problem is, though, that the consumption rate for that is rather inefficient at best. Once a certain threshold has been reached, though, the object no longer requires energy to exist in the physical sense.
His slots are hidden on the back of his left wrist, right under his watch.
  • Brief Backstory: Keita was born into a family that was lucky enough to have a windfall of money; his mother was a high-ranking employee in a technology firm, while his father was a world-class chef based within Takezuma City. Even so, while they had no want for money, Keita's parents made sure to keep their children from being too complacent about life just because they had more than others. He and his sister still had to work towards their funds to keep their hobbies afloat, and they had to return results in order to keep that coming, whether that meant good marks in school, creating something in their spare time, doing well at events, or even the usual handling chores in and out of the home. That, in turn, instilled a strong work ethic within him, which led to a consistent desire by other people to work on projects...
Which tends to backfire when he ends up making the slackers do more work than they would have otherwise.
Because of said work ethic, though, Keita's life has been fairly active, which means he often goes around to talk and socialize more than one would expect. Some might say that his lifestyle is more befitting an upcoming actor, but Keita himself often denies those claims anyhow.

  • Name: Sasegawa Hikaru
  • Age: 15
  • Gender: Female(as of now everyone should believe her to be male)
  • Appearance: Hikaru has light skin, very dark red hair, dark red eyes, and tends to wear black clothing. She is just under five feet tall. Copious amounts of binding are involved.
  • Personality: Hikaru is a very serious individual. Her belief is that she must focus on her work as a detective above all else, even to the detriment of all other aspects of her life. Wishing to honor her father's memory, and to be taken seriously, Hikaru disguises the fact that she is a girl. She believes that others would doubt her skills and think that she only achieved her dream of being detective because her father was a highly respected detective himself. She is deeply self-conscious of this fact and fears that this belief would tarnish her father's memory, and therefore she hides her femininity. Hikaru has no friends to speak of, dedicating most of her free time to detective work. She is proud of her work, and takes pride in doing things properly. When she cooks, she follows recipes to the letter. When she works, she carefully inspects every single angle. Hikaru is very blunt and to the point, and somewhat unhesitating to call others stupid or foolish. This is both due to scorn at times and due to her tendency to plainly state what she perceives. Hikaru is very self-conscious about her femininity, and hides her figure in concealing clothing as a result. She is actually quite easily embarrassed or flustered in spite of her blunt attitude, but it's not likely that anyone will find it easy to do so while she still is believed to be male. Finally, Hikaru has difficulty understanding romance or why anyone would desire it with her, feeling very awkward about the prospect. While she is celebrated by the police, she also is aware of being resented for her youth.
  • Skills: Hikaru is extremely intelligent and analytical, excellent at observation and analysis of her surroundings. A skilled detective in spite of her young age, Hikaru has solved multiple cases, including murders, using her capabilities. She is also a remarkably capable cook, but only when using recipes. She also excels at marksmanship, being trusted with a revolver in spite of her young age and the strict gun control laws in Japan(obviously not on school grounds).
  • Equipment: Hikaru carries with her, when she is not on school grounds, a police-issue revolver. Aside from that, most of her typical detective equipment is on her person at all times. This includes the means to dust for fingerprints and various other methods of observation.
  • Soul Arts: BANG! A Shocking Development!!! - Hikaru's Soul Art is inserted directly into her palm. Once inserted, she gains a translucent pistol alongside her revolver, which can fire bolts or bullets of electricity. The bolts are more powerful, but the bullets can hone in on her targets.
  • Brief Backstory: Hikaru was born to Sasegawa Mami and Sasegawa Ryouji. Sadly, her mother passed away not long after her birth, leaving her to be raised by her father. Hikaru was brought up on stories of justice, stories of detective work paying off in getting the bad guy. Naturally, her own dreams were formed by this, and she made the decision to become a detective herself, just like her father. This goal was furthered by her naturally high intelligence and analytical attitude. Unfortunately, none of this could prepare her for her father's death on the case. Now living with a friend of her family's, Aoi Yumeko, Hikaru resolved to become a detective who could uphold the Sasegawa family name and carry on her father's legacy. Fearing that she would be treated as nothing more then the product of nepotism due to detective work largely being a male profession, Hikaru decided to hide her female nature and pretend to be male. Working with the police force, she has solved multiple cases that include several murders. She is currently assigned to the Strange Gospel case. At Yamamura High, she is believed to be male and has a very long list of female admirers.

"Some guy asked me if I'd eat like, tiny people if they tasted like steak. But humans taste like pork and I don't eat them, so why would I wanna munch on some midgets?"

Name: Chiyu Shoukei (朱 祥瓊)

Age: 16

Gender: Female

Appearance:

Despite her shockingly pink head of hair (all-natural, thank you very much), the five foot three teenage girl isn't someone with a particularly noticeable aura, unless one of her many strange ideas pops into her head and she recklessly decides to go ahead with some action that draws people's attentions. Indeed, one merely needs to take a gander at Shoukei's ridiculously sparse wardrobe (stocked just in order to ensure that she can alternate between outfits when some are in the wash) to conclude that, yes, if she has a fashion sense that isn't tailored entirely towards looking like a brightly-coloured background extra, it's one that's almost nonexistent. While definitely not totally lacking in savvy towards clothing, she definitely is somebody whose care ends at "being presentable", although depending on whether or not she'd brushed her hair that morning, even that can change. Sometimes she wears glasses. She does, however, have an incredibly expressive face.

Personality: At first glance, Shoukei seems like one of those quiet, studious types, someone who prefers to keep silent and fade into the background rather than engage with the rest of society on a regular basis. That view is ... half-right; while it is true that she doesn't care for being in the forefront of life and whatnot (despite a mild attention-seeking streak) due to all the energy it would require of her, the actual reason behind her seeming lack of social activity is her constant need to think things through around strangers. As someone already not too predisposed to talking, a lot of the time she spends her efforts formulating the proper conversation starters, thinking through the consequences of what words she may say, and whether or not others would welcome her actually talking to them. And then it turns out that she's lost her window of opportunity, so she simply shrugs her shoulders and decides to do better next time.

Of course, none of her planning actually comes into play when she actually gets into a conversation.

Shoukei's manner of speech is, to put it bluntly, incredibly off-the-cuff, with a certain irreverence to it that some people could construe as rudeness. She certainly doesn't try to be rude, of course, and that's pretty clear to see in her interactions with figures of authority (who tend to receive polite addresses from her), but the moment she crosses the hurdle of "should I actually try talking to this stranger", she starts loosening up, and any attempts at staying formal immediately devolve into incredibly casual dialogue (and depending on the situation, loudness). Under the seemingly quiet persona she's accidentally adopted, it becomes pretty telling that the pink-haired girl is an amicable lass, although the contents of her words can be, at times, a bit eccentric. The closer she is to you, and the more casual she is, the more likely it is for her to not bother with thinking through her words. Sure, the running commentary in her brain (which is, despite her friendliness, somewhat dismissive from time to time) is always turned on, giving dry observations of happenings, but even that can't stop her from blurting out what's on her mind.

And her mind certainly can come up with weird things.

She isn't too fond of being a weirdo, however, although she's resignedly accepted that, yes, she's definitely somewhat more eccentric than your usual gal. It doesn't stop her brain (which ping pongs from nihilism to shining optimism like a table tennis match in high level Chinese leagues) from constantly trying to pretend to have some veneer of normalcy. It's why it's easy for her to play both funny and straight woman if necessary, because ignoring her inherent strange nature, she likes the concept of an easy, quiet and perfectly normal life. Her exasperated snarking does tend to be more mental though, because she doesn't want to verbalise any disrespectful thoughts too much. She still does, but they're not too common, thankfully.

Or at least not common enough to do much to her reputation (which admittedly isn't too great but hey, nobody thinks she's anything worse than a weirdo).

Something to keep in mind is that Shoukei possesses a pretty sizable streak of selfish cynicism. While she does do her best to keep it under bay, it does end up colouring a lot of her worldview. And serve as a source for some of her materialistic ambitions. Even if she prefers the quiet life, there are just some things that she really wants, and will do anything to get it. Like the position of Student Council Treasurer, triumphing over her rival to do so.

It can be noticed that she's rather petty, too.

In the end, however, she's still a studious and diligent young girl, and for all her flaws and eccentricities, Shoukei can be someone hard-working and effective in her duties, to the point where you can describe her as some sorta freight train in her intensity. She has an almost unhealthy sense of responsibility to almost any task she's been assigned (a flaw which she acknowledges and awkwardly tries to avoid by convincing others of her lack of suitability as being in charge of things), and will fight 100% to make sure it comes out properly.

Even the smallest things. Especially the smallest things.

She'll get them done, no sweat.

Skills: For all her weirdness and tendency to leap before she looks, Shoukei's actually pretty smart. Grasping and understanding the concepts of how things work comes pretty easily to her (which explains the overall excellence of her school grades), so it doesn't really take long for her to suss things out. Lateral thinking is something that she still needs to work on, but when getting down to the nitty-gritty details, she can definitely get it through. Her diligence towards getting things done is almostly inhuman, to the point where she can function on almost zero sleep (well, almost - if she's had a few late nights, do expect her to be taking advantage of any break to snooze). Physically, of course, she's not that amazing, although some say that if she's either scared or super pissed, the adrenaline turns her from "mediocre" to "Usain Bolt's got nothing on this lassie", but that's just an exaggeration of her tendency to perform slightly better when motivated. She learnt to speak Chinese from a Beijinger, hence her excessive rhotic consonants. Her cooking boils down entirely to ... well, boiling. And eggs.

Equipment: Mobile phone; wallet (bank card, cash, library card, photo ID, fabric store loyalty card, coffee store loyalty card, some old receipts she's forgotten to throw away); a lot of pens; a notebook of miscellaneous deeds; chopsticks case

Soul Arts: Lil' Miss Acoustic - when inserted into a slot present on her right forearm (usually hidden under her sleeves), Shoukei gains the ability to reduce some of the damage she takes from enemy attacks by converting the energy received from them into sound waves (through a complex series of events which boils entirely down to "her body starts oscillating"). In itself, this ability would be admittedly useless, and an added strain on her body, but once she begins to produce sound waves, she can manipulate the direction of their displacement (usually by redirecting it towards her foes). The intensity of these waves depend on the attack she's redirecting, although it goes without saying that she's definitely more powerful underwater (given the denser medium). Of course, that means she's useless in space.

Brief Backstory: The firstborn daughter of a government clerk and a teacher, Chiyu Shoukei grew up in a rather normal upper middle class household, albeit one with a significant focus on education. Her early years were rather bland, having spent much of them merely going to school and absorbing everything that her teachers and parents sought to instill in her and training up her head for numbers through her maths classes. It wasn't really until the later stages of her elementary life (and bleeding into middle school) that she (and her fellow self-actualising peers) realised the extent of her eccentricities, a revelation that she promptly sought to correct through a series of rather embarrassing and unspeakable events that she refuses to acknowledge ever happened. Yet the repercussions on her reputation stuck, and so Shoukei threw herself even further into her studies, hoping to quickly get into high school and blot out that stain on her person.

Her wish, fortunately, was somewhat fulfilled with her arrival onto the campus grounds of Yamamura High. While it was impossible to entirely avoid being seen as a mild weirdo by her peers (particularly when some had gone to school with her earlier), the pink-haired girl, despite her background extra-like nature, proceeded to establish a niche for herself as someone studious and diligent, settling into her new school with requisite gusto. At first, she decided on trying to have a rather quiet life, but on a whim, she found herself throwing her name into the ring during the student council elections.

Much to her surprise, she was given a position.

Despite her relative youth, Shoukei was thrown straight-first into the position of Treasurer, forcing her to give up her dream of an entirely quiet life with the realisation that she was now in possession of great responsibility. The assignment also coincided with the introduction of Strange Gospel, which, while she did download, found itself being left to the wayside as she struggled to handle her new job. Being a treasurer was hard work, and the ever-responsible Shoukei decided that a random mobile phone app was of no import when compared to balancing the budgets and serving as a receptacle for school clubs complaining about funding cuts. With the sketchy rumours emerging around it, going back to using it has only become less appealing to her, allowing her to focus her efforts entirely on her work.

It might not be entirely fun, but the duty is one she must bear.

Name: Ieiri Shuusuke
Age: 17
Gender: Male
Appearance: "Stop talking in that ugly shade of brown, please."
Personality: Shuusuke is introverted and just a bit cynical. Shuusuke finds social interaction tiring, so he tries to prioritize quality over quantity. However, his early life was spent in the company of a bunch of "acquaintances" that didn't click with him. Because of this, he developed a cynical attitude when it came to interacting with people. He longs for good, deep interactions with someone; interactions that don't just boil down to small talk. Shuusuke is proficient in academics, especially in mathematics and hard sciences. Shuusuke is logical and calculating, always thinking through situations in terms of risk vs. reward. This way of thinking may alienate some people, especially those who value emotions over pragmatics, but Shuusuke couldn't care less. Shuusuke doesn't deal well with overly emotional people, anyway. Shuusuke is also a failed artist... in that he has a creative mind, but no outlet to realize this creativity. He can't draw, paint, or sculpt, and any music he tries to make always ends up scrapped within the day. Shuusuke has a nice singing voice, and enjoys singing, but doesn't think he can actually get anywhere with it.
Skills: Shuusuke is exceptional at calculation, pattern recognition, and logical problem solving. Due to a lifetime of being embroiled with numbers, functions, and calculations, Shuusuke can easily use his experiences to easily work his way through any problems he comes across. Despite his lack of athleticism, Shuusuke has good hand-eye coordination from a life of playing video games, especially rhythm games.
Equipment: His smartphone, his house keys, his wallet (containing ID, a debit card, a credit card, a few arcade cards, and an eAmuse card), and school supplies in his backpack.
Soul Arts: Prisma Falsum - Shuusuke can manipulate light on the visible spectrum, creating visual illusions. Shuusuke can use this ability to bend light around himself to make himself invisible, though he can only do this for short periods of time right now. As this ability develops, he will be able to become invisible for longer, create powerful flashes of light to disorient enemies, and even manipulate light outside the visible spectrum.
Brief Backstory: When Shuusuke was seven years old, he was diagnosed with sound-color synesthesia, which means that he sees faint colorful shapes whenever he hears sounds. Other than that, Shuusuke's childhood was nothing unusual. His parents worked middle-class jobs, and so Shuusuke lived a middle-class life. Shuusuke is an only child, and so he had to spend his time doing solitary activities, leading to his love of video games. His parents noticed his interest in math and science, and actively encouraged it, buying him books of brainteasers, logic puzzles and number puzzles. At elementary school, Shuusuke kept to himself. He had quite a few acquaintances, but none of them were people he'd truly call "friends".

This has not really changed in high school. Shuusuke continues to keep to himself, though he's not opposed to interaction. In fact, he wants nothing more than to be able to interact more and make friends, but since he gets overwhelmed easily whenever it happens, he has to spend time away from others just to recuperate.

Shuusuke downloaded Strange Gospel on a whim, just to see what the fuss was about. He didn't buy into the rumors, and when he saw the prediction of his future, he was able to convince himself that it was a huge coincidence. As soon as the creepy rumors surfaced about the app and its new update, he deleted it. He wasn't getting any use out of it anyway.
