Strange Gospel. It's a name that's become a common subject of discussion among students, and an endless source of confusion for just about everyone. A phone app released just a month ago, Strange Gospel has rapidly ascended to one of the most downloaded apps in Japan. There's not a day gone by where someone hasn't talked about it and tried to figure out where it's coming from. Every attempt to trace it, to discern who developed it, has failed. And yet it's spread like wildfire, websites speculating about the app, students talking about it every day. This app has become the center of attention, chatrooms and messageboards attempting to understand how it does what it does and where it comes from.
Why has Strange Gospel exploded so much in popularity?
The app appeared on the store one day without explanation, or much description. No-one would have taken much interest, until a student of Yamamura High School decided to download it on a whim. They didn't think much of it, until it showed them a perfectly clear video of events featuring them and their friends. Only, these were events that had never happened, as far as the student knew.
It was a week later when they actually occurred.
News of a phone app that could predict the future spread rapidly, and the more people downloaded it the more people discovered its perfect predictions and told their friends. Even people who didn't believe the app were downloading it, just for the novelty.
It didn't take long for it to top the charts.
But then, something changed.
An update, simply titled "Apocrypha" downloaded itself and installed on every phone with the Strange Gospel app. This time, whenever the app was used, things had changed.
No longer did it show simple, normal events, a slice of the user's life a short period into the future.
Violent deaths, dark, shadowy figures, surreal warping scenery, a pale white mask. The videos shown to predict the future now showed truly horrific events, terrible things. The app was no longer an enigmatic curiosity. Now it was something terrifying. Attempts to trace the app failed. There was no way to discover just who made it.
And then, people who had used the app started to go missing.
Needless to say, reaction was almost immediate. Detectives were dispatched in order to try and get down to the bottom of this.
But so far, they've been unable to discover anything. No clues. Nothing at all.
You and your friends stopped using the app the moment you heard about the creepy images. And yet, recently, you've been having odd dreams... a blue and white room, and a dark city with an enormous tower...
The Apocrypha.
The small girl sat on the long, blue velvet couch, the bells in her hair jingling. The repeated intrusions hadn't ceased, and yet that tower was still standing tall...
It was time.
Another nightly descent.
The roar of gunfire.
She had to make it inside.
It was her reason for existence.
So, this is a bit of a new urban fantasy RP idea! Basically, this popular phone app with the mysterious ability to predict the future has suddenly begun showing incredibly disturbing images and horrific events. Naturally, this has gotten a lot of people pretty scared, especially the students who had been using the app the most.
You'll be playing as a set of these students(and potentially one or two of the detectives) from Yamamura High, who will be contacted by a mysterious being wishing to solve these terrible events.
These students will be granted a unique item to allow them to fight the dark creatures within the mirror world of the Apocrypha, a distorted reflection of the real world where an enormous tower stands above all else.
Discover what lies at the top of this tower, what has happened to the people who disappeared, the darkness within the Apocrypha, and the true nature of Strange Gospel.
The group of students who will be venturing into the Apocrypha will not be unarmed.
They will be granted Soul Arts, objects which appear to be simple microchips but, once placed "inside" the body via a "slot" somewhere on it, tap into the soul in order to produce some sort of item or power.
The first Soul Art you receive is always tied to your skills and personality. For example, an aggressive girl who is skilled at kendo might receive some kind of highly offensive sword-based ability. However, they can be a wide variety of weapons and abilities. After receiving your first Soul Art and using it for a little while, you can even switch to others.
Be warned, however, these new Soul Arts may not be as compatible as your first.
Up to two Soul Arts can be equipped at once.
Finally, our protagonists won't be without opposition...
If you want to play a villain, PLEASE PM me so we can discuss the plot and your ideas in order to create a fitting antagonist.
I will only accept a very limited number of villains, two or three maximum.
You may also play one of the detectives assigned to the case, though I'll limit the number of these to two only.
