Tharac

An armored boot kicked over a fallen sign post. Beneath it was another dead body, but not the one the orc was looking for. The warlord, Tharac, took a moment to sit back and survey the damage state of the village. There were a few fires, broken in doors, ransacked houses, and dead bodies a plenty. He caught sight of two of his troop shoving silverware into a sack. A sneer and a growl was enough to get the both of them to drop their pilfered goods to the ground and fall back into line with the rest of the band. This is why he hated bringing young-lings out on a manhunt. Not yet disciplined enough to focus on an objective over looting petty trinkets.

Regardless he continued on his way, reaching a point where a human in chainmail was tied and bound and in the process of having the snot beaten out of him. Tharac stood amongst the crowd and watched for a moment, letting the goblins kick and slap the man where he knelled, before stepping in. "That's enough." The words alone were enough to make the majority of the assembled group disperse and allow the warlord passage. Kneeling down next to where the human now laid in the mud on his side, Tharac shoved him slightly to get a better look at the insignia on his chest. The image of a hawk with sword in its talons sat plainly, still visible even through the wear and muck.

"You fought well, for a human." He drawled and slowly shifted his gaze towards the mans beaten face. "I would give you a warriors death, if you would allow me by answering my questions." Grabbing the man by the collar of his armor, Tharac pulled the human back up to eye level. He held the man in his gaze, seeing the defeated yet still defiant look in his eyes. He would have respected his human, if he wasn't about to kill him. "Where are the other remnants of the War Hawks?" There was no answer. A moment passed and Tharac suddenly snarled and stood to full height, dragging the mercenary to his feet. "Where is he!?" He shouted.

The human coughed briefly once Tharac had stopped shaking him, then spoke. "If you're talking about Ossian, then I don't know. Last I saw him was when he went on leave from the band." He scowled at the orc. "You bastards already tried to wipe us out before he came back."

Tharac squinted his eyes at the mercenary. Eventually he sighed and threw the man back to the ground, then signaled one of the soldiers nearby to draw his sword. Tharac then stalked off as they ended the man where he lay.

It was another bust. And without any new leads this time. Disappointing, but Tharac wasn't one to let set backs keep him down. Still he had one last piece of business before he and his troops left this place. He approached a barn where the last of the frightened towns were being rounded up and herded into. Some were holding on to loved ones, others struggling against armored hand and getting smacked for their trouble. Tharac regarded them all, and spat upon the ground.

"You people, are hereby charged with treason, under the crime of harboring a fugitive from our lord. What say you in your defense?" it was for show really. They knew that. Tharac knew that. There was only one way this could end.

"Please, we're just a simple farming village!" Someone begged. "You can't do this!"

"I don't see anything stopping me." Tharac flicked his eyes up towards where the other orcs were poring oil onto the barn roof. They caught the signal and began to climb down. "The Gods will punish you for this!" Someone else screamed. "You and all of your misbegotten kind!" Tharac snarled and barked at the troops to close and bar the doors. There was panicked shouts from the villagers as the bolts sealed them in.

"Your Gods had already forsaken us long ago." Tharac grabbed a torch from on of his lieutenants. "This is what they've wrought for it." He then threw it upon the roof, catching the oil alight and sending the barn ablaze.

He and the band under his command watched the fire spread and heard the screaming inside intensify. Then Tharac turned back to his troops. "Alright, grab what food you can carry and move out. I want to link back up with the scouts and hear from the other bands by morning. We're gonna find this whoreson even if we have to turn over every tree and rock in this hell-spawned country!" Barks of a salute came in acknowledgement, and without another word the gathered horde marched off, leaving the townspeople to their fates.

Oonar

Oonar had lived many centuries within Aeos, but there were still some things that made the old mage's stomach turn. Lady Nienna of the Leaflit Woods had been a dear friend of his for many centuries. To see her defiled, humiliated, and murdered like this grieved his heart, but his long years on this earth had taught him the virtue of patience. Patience which he needed to calm the war band of elves and humans that accompanied him as they hid amidst the trees bordering the Drow camp.

"We should strike, Oonar. This insult cannot be endured," an elf beside him growled. Oonar nodded. Elys was the Captain of the Silver Guard, charged with the protection of his lady and his realm. To find that they had arrived too late was a greater wound to him than the rest of the war band.

"She is at rest, Elys. If we are to prevail in this battle and lose as few men as possible, we must strike when the time is right and then," he continued firmly, "When we have routed them from these lands, return to Falendale. We cannot hold these woods, but we can make sure the Drow do not dig either."

The elf took in his words reluctantly, but deferred to the wizard. Truthfully, Oonar could destroy the whole host of enemies with a whirlwind of fire, but that would destroy the woods wich Lady Nienna had loved. It would also clear the way for additional enemies to march ever closer to Falendale. The woods were their friends. Instead, a different strategy had been devised. When he saw the Sun shine through the leaves of the tree, causing the leaves to shine in response to it. He smiled. Light was no friend to the Drow and he would use this. He raised his hands and murmured.

"Nara, Lady of the Sun, lend me your power. Please."

With that said, the woods exploded in sunlight and the horns of the Host of Men and Elves rang out in defiance. Arrows were loosed upon the Drow encampment and the magic users among them sang to the trees and the plants to strike out at the enemy.

"For Lady Nienna's sake, sends these abominations to the pit that spawned them!" Elys cried, drawing two longswords and charging with his kin. Oonar frowned and signaled the archers to watch for their comrades. At the very least, he mused, the battlefield conditions did not favor the Drow. They had spent much of their strength in cruelty the night before and the battlefield, filled with plants and light, was as different from their home as it could be. The wizard raised his staff up, murmuring as he kept up the spell, their biggest advantage.

Ossian

A cloaked man sat in the back of a tavern, inhaling smoke from a tobacco pipe and staring at a mug of ale pensively. Doriath was a small, out of the way village near the border between Halleoth and the wooded territory of the elves. From what he heard, the borders might be pushed back further. The Dark Lord's war with the elves was going well, he heard. The Drow fought with greater malice than usual, it was whispered, and that was saying something. Still, the High Elves of Falendale held out even as their Wood Elf cousins sought refuge with their cousins. Of course, even within the empire, the threat of violence was never far. Ossian clenched his fists.

His home was destroy. Everyone was dead. He couldn't even identify the body of his mother among the burned bodies of the slain. His friends in the War Hawks were definitely dead or captured. He had discovered their camp not along ago and barely managed to escape the ambush that had been laying in wait for him. He had been on the run from a warband led by an orcish thug ever since. He had been laying low ever since then, hiding his identity in order to spare whatever villages he visited the swift punishment for "treason." He did not know why the Dark Lord was so interested in him, but Ossian knew that it wasn't anything good, but where could he go? The Dark Lord's men were everywhere and even outside the Empire, the free countries were always under threat from his armies.

He took one last puff of his pipe before it went out and turned his attention to his drink. Come what may, he would find a way to avenge his kith and kin, if only on the orc that hunted him.

Anvarwel

In the distant mountains to the east lay a valley. Inside this valley lay a bustling city. At the end of this city lay a castle, in truth it was more of an impenetrable fortress, by far the most well defended place in all of the east, this was Castle Miraz, home of one of the tyrannical Lich Anvarwel. This fortress sat on a hill and had a single dark but well maintained road leading up to the heavy wooden drawbridge, through there lay a large and carefully watched courtyard. The casual observer would notice a handful of warlocks idling around or moving off to find books for their studies, the more careful observer would notice the dozens of undead thralls hiding under the cover of darkness in alcoves set into the outer and inner wall. Past this courtyard was a heavy yet delicately crafted iron and brass door, just beyond this doorway was the throne hall, a red velvet carpet was flanked by a number of armored black knights and behind them with their faces exposed were a larger number of undead fallen knights. At the end of this carpet was currently a scarred looking messenger boy, wearing the colors of Halleoth. Just beyond him was five large curved steps at the top was a large onyx and golden throne, the crest of which was decorated with a large white gem, which had a large number of faces.

Sat in his throne, looking every bit the part of the ancient ruler he was, was the Lich Anvarwel himself, casually reading through the scroll which the boy had brought to him, a though struck him. He turned his head slightly to look at the azure armored knight to his left and just behind the throne, the knight had his gauntleted hands placed on the pommel of a two handed rune sword, which seemed to emit pure malice. This Azure Knight rarely left his side and was widely accepted to be both the Lich's aide and right hand man even though next to nothing was known about him.

"How many times has this Dark Lord sent messages desiring alliance and servitude now?" Anvarwel having no flesh and therefore no lips had a whispering and echoy yet terrifyingly deep voice, this voice was projected from the center of his skull through simple force of will. The Azure Knight turned his head ever so slightly and replied in a voice that was certainly human, if without the major part of emotion. "This would be the seventh my lord."

The Lich turned back to the scroll and then looked at the boy again, before rolling up the scroll and handing it to an ageing necromancer who had hurried to take the scroll to be cataloged, Anvarwel loved to catalogue information. "Tell your master to stop sending pointless messages, he will have to meet me in person." He paused for a second to consider something. "There are some plains a few miles to the south from here, a neutral grounds for both of us. Tell him to be there in say... Five days time, should be do-able if you're legs don't give out trying to get home, if they do make sure you pass the message before you expire." Though the members of the court knew this to be a joke the messenger promptly panicked and began running for his life, leaving a cheerful Anvarwel in his wake.

The Lich stood up after a few minutes and turned to one of his aides. "Have my carriage prepared to leave in an hour." He turned his head to look over his knights, he had to admit he had a bit of a soft spot for these men who served willing instead of the undead thralls behind who served because he willed it. "A dozen of you are to accompany me, I'll leave you fine men to decide who gets to tag along here." As he made his way down the carpet to the courtyard the Azure Knight kept half a pace behind him. "I take it you are not truly going to bend knee to this Dark Lord from the west my lord?" Anvarwel half turned around "I'm almost surprised at you, if I started calling myself the Dark Lord do you think I would order everyone to surrender to me?" He paused as he realized that for the last few hundred years he had practically done that exact thing, the Azure Knight didn't comment so he continued. "No, I would rather learn how this Dark Lord has come to such power so easily, and how much he is willing to give for my aid."

Just over an hour later the convoy set out from Castle Miraz, at its head was the Azure Knight, riding on a strange undead horse. Behind the knight came the black and red iron armored carriage, pulled by six large horses and with a trio of undead archers perched on top of it Anvarwel was both perfectly comfortable and safe. Behind the carriage came the dozen black knights, each riding horses of their own. It took nearly a full day for the convoy to come to the meeting place, at his place the Azure Knight placed Anvarwels banner to mark his encampment, this banner is of a human skull biting on a vertical hourglass on a black field. It was here that the convoy would wait, thankfully Anvarwel had brought some books so he wouldn't be bored if the Dark Lord failed to arrive.

Ysran Stormreach

Ysran was enjoying a rather nice nap, when a blow to the back of his head woke him up.

"Whoops, sorry about that!" A voice shouted towards him.

Ysran opened his eyes, but the bright daylight nearly blinded him. He was face up, sprawled a crossed the wooden bed of a caravan.

What? Who...? Ysran wasn't feeling to great.

"Finally awake are you? You've been asleep for almost a day now."

"Who are you? How did I get here?" Ysran struggled to get to his feet. What with the whole hungover feeling and the bumpy road they seemed to be on. Ysran did his best to remember what he was doing, but drew a blank. Last thing he remembered was trying to get through his Heal spellbook, and then feeling lightheaded.

"Well, you ran up to me in a panic, tossed me a bit a gold, and said something along the lines of 'Get me out of here as fast as possible'. I had my suspicions, but hey, money talks. You then set your stuff down and went out like a light. I tried waking you earlier, but you were really out. I almost thought you were dead! But, here you are now. Want off at the next city?"

His stuff?

Looking around him, he saw several books and his pack, filled with who knows what.

"Uh... yeah. I'll get off at the next stop. Let me know when we get there."

Ysran sat back down on side bench on the inside of the caravan. Looking through his pack, it seemed to be full of traveling supplies. How convenient. Looking at the books, he counted 6 in total. Two of which were the spells he was learning. The other four, however, were spells he already knew. He didn't even have these in his collection. Dismissing them, he put them into his pack. All that was left now was to wait until he got to the next city.

Rothar

Rothar strode through the road, with the bulk of his armor jingling in his backpack. He wore a leather shirt and thick pants and boots, the heat in the morning was horrible to be in plate armor, and he was forced out of it. Still, the border with the Demon Lord's territories drew near, as the forest besides him grew sparser with every step.

Looking at the other side he could see the grass in a meadow, with mountains in the back and sparse clouds above. At his back, laid the road to safety, to the civilized world, and to the town that had housed him for the last week, in attempts to prepare for his journey. In fron of him, by contrast, laid the waste of the Demon Lord's deeds, even though he didn't see them yet, he knew they were there.

He looked at the mountains in the distance and saw how they grew more and more white while going in his direction, no doubt a signal of the grasp that the devilish forces had on the region. He fished a pocket of his backpack for a gulp of water, and thought to have heard something in the forest.

He put back the water and put his right hand on his sword. He mumbled a prayer to the Light and quickly unsheathed the blade, turning around to see a figure in the sparse woods besides him. It seemed human, it seemed bulky, and it had definitely seen him, but Rothar could not decide if it was a friend or foe, due to the trees between them. He dropped the backpack and spoke to the figure.

Who's going there? Show yourself! He waited for the figure to move

Alberich

Alberich sat upon a rock with a handkerchief in his hand, cleansing what was fresh blood off the giant battleaxe he carried. "Naught but a cur..." The lumberjack muttered as he gazed down at the fallen elf at his feet. The treaded sod showed signs of a skirmish, and the grass stained red showed the result of the battle. Life as a mercenary was not the path Alberich wanted to lead, but his furor and anger for the Dark Lord was a lust he needed to fulfill. He desired to avenge his family, yet the only forces he could find were the various frontier scouts that prowled the edges of the Dark Lord's borders like a savannah cat.

Reaching into a pouch, Alberich pulled forth a parchment and a small jar of black ink. He reached for one of the elf's arrows, snapping the end off to use the broken arrow as a quill to write. "That makes the fifth scout today." Alberich spoke to himself as he crossed the other four lines he had written earlier. Folding the paper back up and placing it in a pocket, Alberich stood up from the rock. He looked once more at the elven corpse, and shook his head at the deceased elf. Burial for any one under the Dark Lord was something Alberich could not place a care to; his unavailability to bury his own family saw much to that.

"Who's going there? Show yourself!" Came forth from the outskirts of the woods as Alberich stood up. He tensed his muscles as his grip strengthened on the long hilt of his axe. Being this close to the edge of the Dark Lord meant that there were little travelers, if any at all. Perhaps this will be the sixth. Alberich thought to himself as he approached the voice with as much caution as he could summon. "Another human?" He shook his head, but didn't relent his caution. "You don't appear to have any relation to the Dark Lord. Who are you?" Alberich asked, standing his ground.

Eahara

Another town raided, more innocent lives killed, the usual things for the likes of the Dark Lord’s orcish hordes.

Eahara was not surprised for this course of action as it seemed Tharac the dimwitted knew how to do when he set out to find something. The huntress had watched the raid happen, the slaughter, and the beginning of the burning of the damned barn; the screams managing to reach those ears of hers. Though, the screams hardly seemed to affect her in any negative fashion, being deflected by that cold expression of hers. That expression that had been drilled into her since the day of her birth of her clan, when she became a huntress under the Dark Lord. Her movements were subtle, cautiously approaching the village as those trapped in the barn screamed as flames engulfed them. Did she wish for them to stop? Yes, only because it was annoying and making her lose her train of thought.

Now, she entered one of the ruined homes and began sifting through the rubble as she attempted to find any form of loot that seemed valuable. Then, she felt the burning sensation run up her arm and she instinctively drew her bow and nocked an arrow, aiming it at the door that she had entered. The Kobold saw the being step through the doorway, a goblin who had come back to scavenge for any sort of loot, same reason as she. It also stopped, looking at her with the same dumb expression all goblins had.

“Who are you?,” the goblin questioned.

“I am a rock,” Eahara stated rhetorically, narrowing her eyes at the small dumb thing.

“Oh, you look like a Kobold to me,” it responded, scratching the top of its disgustingly green, bald head. It's face shift to confusion for the being that claimed to be a rock seemed to resemble a Kobold.

“Nope, I'm a rock,”the Kobold insisted, her tail flicking to the side assume spoke with a slight hiss.

“Oh. Okay,” the goblin said cheerful, earning a confused look from the Kobold who practically had an arrow shoved in its face. It began to step closer and sift through rubble, not minding that the ‘rock’ was staring in confusion at it. Though, the goblin’s actions did not lost long as Eahara had finally loosed her arrow right into the back of the goblin’s skull. Yet, she had stay there in order to contemplate on whether what happened was weird or she was beginning to go insane. At the very least, the burning sensation began to subside.

Finally, she sighed as she picked the goblin’s corpse clean of any money or food it had on it. Eahara also dragged the goblin off the arrow that had element through its head so that she may yet use the arrow. “Goblins,” she sighed in disappointment before going off to begin tracking the orcish warpath once more, seeking to kill Tharac and begin her task of destroying those officers to the Dark Lord. There she left the villagers screaming from pain as the fire destroyed them, before sniffing their screams with crackles and pops as the fire raged.

Caractacus

Out of a swamp, near the border to the Dark Lord's domain, a slight, pale young man strode, followed by a small horde of a dozen zombies. The smell of smoke, and the sound of screams were in the air, even Caractacus could not ignore it. Fire and battle meant the Dark Lord's forces were near, and were they to take him by surprise, it would surely be his death. Even still, he had his apprehension. A mob of orcs or mercenaries he could handle well enough, but if more of those so-called heroes showed, it would be a far more unpleasant experience.

The town came into view as he marched on. The screams had stopped by now, any chance of the locals surviving was unlikely. That would also mean that whoever killed them had likely had their fun and moved on. Caractacus grimaced. While he had little care for the townsfolk, their fate was a reminder of the cruelty of their fellow living beings. The necromancer and his thralls entered the town, walking down the main street.

"Search the area." Caractacus waved his arm, ordering his minions. "Bring me any survivors. Alive."

The zombies fanned out the town, following their master's orders.

Ysran Stormreach

The caravan ride seemed to last an eternity. Ysran did the best he could at being patient, and eventually went to his Breath of the Deep spellbook. Suddenly the caravan started gaining speed rapidly.

"You late for somethin'? Why are we going so fast all of the sudden?"

"Look! There's a huge smoke stack! Somebody might be In trouble."

"Fair enough. Let's go."

As the pace picked up, the smoke stack became closer and closer until eventually they made it.

"Stay here. I'll check it out." The driver gave a quick nod and Ysran hopped off the caravan. The town was in ruins. Buildings were reduced to rubble, there were scorch marks everywhere. Yet in the middle of it all, stood a figure, surrounded by more, shorter figures. Soon enough the smaller figures scattered, leaving only the taller central one. One of the figures began to almost limp in Ysran's direction. Upon closer inspection, this figure was a rotting corpse, shuffling towards him. Quickly unsheathing his sword, Ysran prepared for a fight. Yet oddly enough, the creature wasn't agressive towards him. It almost seemed... happy to see him. Ysran began to back away slowly as the creature closed in, eventually reaching him. As much as he wanted to cleave this zombie in half, he couldn't bring himself to do it. The creature was within arms reach of Ysran, and stuck out its arm. Reeling back for a strike, Ysran quickly realized that the undead man was simply grabbing the sleeve of his robe, and tugging towards him. Allowing himself to be moved by the creature, he was led to the one central figure. Upon closer inspection, this figure was a robed man, pale, and looked like he was desperately waiting for something.

"Hey, uh... is this yours?" he said, pointing to the undead man bringing him closer to the man.

Eahara

The undead were always a nuisance that came in many different levels; a skeleton was a minor annoyance whereas a zombie was the slightly more annoying. Yet, here they were, intercepting her path as she slowly moved after Tharac’s warband, being the same nuisance as ever. It was not as if Eahara had gone far from the town either but it seemed they did not work under the Dark Lord since her tattoos were not glowing or burning. Regardless, she did not ask questions when she they started to surround her and instead began shooting them down, each receiving an arrow to the head.

It seemed like a wandering band at the moment, until she was surprised by a small horde seemingly surrounding her. Sure they were slow, but she could not fire her bow fast enough to kill them all and suddenly she was encompassed. Eahara closed her eyes tight as she only wished that she would be killed quickly by these creatures of the living dead. Except they did not began biting or clawing her to death as she suspected, instead grabbing her arms and forcing her to the ground. They bound her for reasons that she had not known; then they began to drag her back towards the town.

Through all of this she resisted in the best was she could; squirm, bite, act like a wild animal really. The undead set her down and pushed her to where she was on her knees in front of some dark robed individual in which she could deduce was their master. Eahara snarled at the man; her teeth very clearly a red as she gazed at the human with clearly angered eyes. ”What do you want, damned human?,” she asked with a tone that could only be described as livid.

Caractacus

Caractacus was, needless to say, stunned by the production of a living being in the town. He had, if he were to be honest, performed the sweep more as a formality than expecting any survivors. With from the edge of town came a human, being led along by a clearly very docile zombie. The human itself didn't seem particularly displeased by the development, perhaps a bit bemused.

"Hey, uh... is this yours?" The man gestured toward Caractacus's undead servant. He was not the slightest bit perturbed! Caractacus took a deep breath, and prepared a response that he hoped would be appropriate.

"Yes, it is mine. I am Caractacus, rogue necromancer, foe of the Dark Lord's legion, yet allied to none, I--" Caractacus froze, arms raised as he announced himself, when he heard the sound of struggle and battle. Coming down the street was another living creature, this one carried by a trio of damaged zombies. It was a kobold! A servant of the dark lord, no doubt. It was brought in front of him, still struggling to free itself from its bonds. Caractacus was going to restart his prepared speech when the kobold cut him off with a barked question.

"What do you want, damned human?" Flinching away, Caractacus nearly dropped his staff.

"Ah! Oh, s-sorry, I er, didn't mean for this, l-let me just..." Kneeling down, he produced his dagger to cut the ropes binding the kobold. "Ahem, I wasn't trying to h-hurt you, I ordered them to find anyone alive in the town." Caractacus stopped, halfway through the ropes. "Wait! You're with the Dark Lord's forces, a-aren't you? A kobold. I s-served with them back when I was...No matter. I n-need your word you won't hurt me. Or, uh, him," He pointed at the other human. "before I cut you free, okay?"

Rothar

A large, muscular man came out of the other road with an axe in a hand, and a bloodied kerchief on the other. He had his guard up, but lost it as soon as he saw Rothar fully. He was a little taller than Rothar himself, and seemed to have the upper hand if it came to a fight. It didn't seem to go in that direction, though. The man had a relaxed look now that they were both in clear sight of each other, and if danger was ever present it seemed to have faded away. Rothar dropped his guard and put the tip of his blade on the ground, using it as support.

Ha! I'd die before joining such a scum. Rothar smiled to the other man, and shot a look behind his back. There was a dead something behind the man. My name is Rothar Umoa, Knight seeking to bring the Dark Lord down, or at least as much of his army as I can. Who are you? It's a little far from town to be chopping down trees, right?

Ysran Stormreach

"A kobold, huh? I haven't seen many of you."

Ysran looked over to the robed man.

I don't think she'll try anything like that. From what I've heard, Kobolds are usually pretty smart about survival. I doubt she'd fight you, me, and your little undead horde."

Ysran knelt down to the kobold's height.

"So, what's someone like you doing out all on your lonesome? Did you get left behind? Or perhaps... you left them behind?"

Ysran then stood up and flipped his hair over to one side, revealing his large pointed ears.

"You guys can call me Ysran. What's your name little lady?"

Ysran tried his best to contain his excessive energy. After such a long and boring cart ride, he was finally able to do SOMETHING, even if that something was just a conversation.

Eahara

Eahara snapped her teeth at the black robed one, her jaws clamping down on air and creating a rather large snapping sound. Wait! You're with the Dark Lord's forces, a-aren't you? A kobold. I s-served with them back when I was...No matter. I n-need your word you won't hurt me. Or, uh, him," He pointed at the other human. "before I cut you free, okay?" A chance at freedom was something that she needed for it seemed that these two could do what they wanted with her for the moment, only because she was bound and without weapons.

”I used to serve under the Dark Lord’s banner, but I was betrayed by one of my own,” she stated, still with the same aggressive tone she had begun the conversation with. Her tail swished back and forth, her eyes flicking between the two as her jagged teeth were bared towards them. Eahara sensed the weakness in the necromancer, it was something she could use to her advantage at a later time or now if she played her hand correctly. ”Trust me when I say that if I wanted you dead, you would have been by now,” she snapped.

Then the other person knelt in front of her after a rather annoying display of words, soon it became clear that this was an elf that she would have to deal with. ”You guys can call me Ysran. What's your name little lady?,” he asked, her eyes narrowing in a skeptical response as she tried to analyze the elf and find any advantage she could use. There was something about him that she could not quite put her claw on.

”My name is Eahara, a traitor to the Dak Lord. I am currently hunting Tharac the dimwitted so that I can begin dismantling the Dark Lord’s regime,” she spoke in an honest fashion. The Kobold had nothing to hide and so this was the reason of her honesty, straightforward yet angered and annoyed by being captured. If she were not bound then she may have killed the two where they stood, but circumstances did not seem to favor her at the current moment. ”There, I have told you what you need to know. Now release me!”

Caractacus slowly shuffled forward again, kneeling to finally cut through the rest of the ropes holding Eahara. He stumbled back immediately, to get out of range of any retaliatory strike. He sheathed the dagger as well, trying to hide any harmful intentions. "Well, we are all ac-acquainted now, yes? I see no reason for conflict." He nodded quickly. "I-In fact, here, let me just..." With a snap of his fingers, Caractacus's demeanor changed as he started ordering his undead.

"All four of you, step away from them, return to me. All others, return to my side." His orders resonated magically to all the zombies left in the town, and they shambled back toward their master from buildings and side streets, and the four that collected Eahara and Ysran moved into place behind Caractacus.

"There! All's w-well, and no harm has come to any." The confidence gone, Caractacus tried a smile that almost looked convincing. "So you, M-Miss Eahara was it? You hunt Tharac, a servant of the Dark Lord." He nodded toward the kobold. "But what brings an elf like you so close to the danger of the borderlands, Mister Ysran?" He turned, this time addressing the elf.

Ysran Stormreach

"What am I doing here huh? Well, to be honest, I have no clue. I don't even know where I'm at. I just woke up on a caravan with no recollection of the previous day. So in short, I'm completely lost. The caravan driver said he'd take me to the next stop, which hopefully is a city of sorts, and hopefully I can get my bearings. So... do you guys want to see if you can come with? Or should we look around a little more?"

Ysran put his blade away and gestured towards the buildings. Or, at least what was left of them.

Alberich

Alberich relaxed his grip, heaving the giant axe on to his shoulder. He smiled upon hearing the words of a knight come forth from the man's lips, for it wasn't every day you'd hear of a knight - especially one gallantly charging in the Dark Lord's territory with such good virtues."I used to chop trees, Sir Umoa," Alberich replied with a fatherly tone, yet it had quite the country accent. "Through, not many can live the life they once had. The Dark Lord has made circumstances change for many innocent people, even myself." The lumberjack sighed, as if he was reminded of a past he didn't wish to remember.

He pointed behind him with his massive thumb towards the corpse left strewn on the forest floor. "That was my handiwork. I am Alberich Steinhäuser, and I desire to fulfill a deep gnawing hole in my heart. It was by the Dark Lord's command that my village was razed," Alberich explained, smirking as he spoke, "Yet it will be by my axe that the Dark Lord will fall. If only I could find something else than damned scouts!" Alberich jested with a hearty chuckle rousing from him.

Rothar

Rothar saw the determination in Alerich's face, he was a hunter at heart. He had heard and come across so many whose lives had been shattered by the Dark Lord, and everyone now laid maddened or bedridden. Not this one, though, Alberich had seemed big and strong at first, but he also had an impressive will. He had gone from a simple lumberjack to a mercenary just out of his vengance for, most likely, his family.

He put one hand to his shoulder. You'd have to go out to get them. He chuckled lightly. I heard from a village not far from here in which we can resupply, and from then on we would only go deeper, striking down any and all of the Dark Lord's forces that we come across, taking back our lands and getting revenge, for everyone, for all that has been taken from us.

He picked his backpack from the ground and prepared once again for the trek. It would be long before they were actually inside the enemy territories, and death surely awaited them, but as long as they could thin their numbers just a little, they might be enough to give the rest of the world a little moe time to prepare. Alberich seemed fit to take the oportunity, but Rothar could do nothing to force him to go.

So, what's it going to be? Rothar looked at Alberich, waiting for him to answer

Alberich

Alberich couldn't help but to smile. Not many would have chosen to walk the path the two men had walked, and even less would've directly desired to walk into the lands of the Dark Lord and cause as much havoc as they could before a fateful death had befell them. "Let us go, then." He replied to the knight as Alberich adjusted his bag. It wasn't heavy at all, but it carried the minimum to travel about the borders of hope and despair. "Perhaps the gods will deem us worthy and give us a valuable target to slay along the road. I have heard tales of a mighty orc and his warband prowling the nearby lands. It'd be a harsh blow to the Dark Lord if we could get our hands on him."

He looked back at the corpse lying beside the rock, shaking his head. A part of Alberich questioned if the gods would really aid the knight and the mercenary in their goal, for it seemed the gods had already turned their backs on the world they governed from the skies above. Yet if Alberich still could go on after the struggles he went through, who was to say that hope was truly abandoned? The lumberjack gave Rothar an assuring nod. "Lead the way, friend."

@Lich

"Mortiphone, Goddess of Love and Death, please allow your energy to cleanse us of impurities and protect us from evil. Lord Espiritus, Shepard of Souls and King of Spirits, please guide us in our time of need. Sweet Trinity, Sisters of Fate-"

"I'm so sorry to disturb you, My Queen, but Avia has seen something of interest." A small white fox and golden tom cat rubbed against Belladonna's side as she kneeled before the altars of her gods. She had been praying for over an hour at this point, but a part of her still feared that her pleas fell on deaf ears. She opened her eyes and they drifted to the furry figures near her. "It's of no trouble, Darling." She smiled softly, stroking the feline in a gentle manner.

"She claims that the Lich King is to meet with the Dark Lord." Belladonna sighed, rising from her kneeling position. She didn't know what to make of this. She had sent Avia to follow any messengers leaving the Dark Lord's palace and it seemed that he deeply desired Anvarwel to join his ranks. Belladonna had not yet received a request, but she was positive that it would eventually come. The Dark Lord would come to desire every piece of land in his reach.

The queen sighed and rubbed her temples. She knew the Undead King would not bend so easily, but still, if the Dark Lord added his hordes to his already endless army, she knew that the Black Forest would be no match for his power. "Please bring me the mirror. I need to see for myself." The animals nodded at her and scurried off, only to reappear after several moments with an ornate golden hand mirror.

Belladonna smiled at them, nodding graciously as she took the item. "Please" She whispered to it. "Allow me to see." She lifted her left hand, bringing the ebony claw on her ring finger to the mirror's surface. The reflection morphed and changed, replaced by the image of a red and black carriage pulled large horses and protected by undead soldiers. A feeling of fear gripped her stomach and dragged it down. Belladonna swallowed slightly. What could she do?

She put the mirror down on the altar and sighed once more. She turned and began walking out of the room. "I need to request a council with the Undead King before he speaks with the Dark Lord." The fox's ears pricked up. "How? He's on his way to meet with him at this very moment." Belladonna smiled. "You should know that when a witch wants something, she'll find a way to get it. Let us see what the Lich King has planned."

A heavy white fog drifted over the road on which Anvarwel's carriage traveled. His horses and men with silently engulfed by the mist, which clouded their slightly. They panicked, but there was nothing to fear. Some of the white whisp seeped into the carriage, slowly taking a feminine shape. After several moments, a ghostly apparition of the Witch Mother sat across from the Undead King. "Hello, Darling." She said with a polite smile. "Sorry about the fog, it might delay your journey a bit, but it's the only way I could make sure the spell would catch up with you."

Her golden eyes stared deeply into the red pits that were his. "I just wanted to pay you a visit. See if your kingdom was faring. Just a queen checking in on her fellow monarch." Her eyes traveled the interior of the carriage as she spoke. "Also, I've heard that you're currently on your way to speak with the Dark Lord. Now, I know you aren't one to submit to another, so I'm curious of your plans." Her smile grew ever so slightly. "I'd like to know just in case he tries to recruit the Black Forest into his ranks."

Anvarwel

Anvarwel had in fact gotten bored and already started to read some of the books that were in his carriage. Right now he was reading a book on the correct application of certain types of toadstools to hallucinogenic potions, a book he had little interest in frankly though he was subscripted to the belief that information was power, and there were few more powerful than him in that respect.

Despite having little interest in his book he was engrossed enough to hardly notice the magical mist entering his carriage chamber, that was until it talked to him. 'Hello, Darling' came a pleasant and familiar voice from just across from him, which made him look up over the lip of the book, which he quickly placed back down on the pile next to him.

"Lady Belladonna, it has been far too long since we last spoke." He said in a voice of genuine surprise and delight. He had always enjoyed the company of the Witch Queen, and not just because it sounded good next to his own title of Lich King. He inclined his head as a way of forgiving Belladonna's explanation of why his journey would be slower than expected. "I can hardly be angered now can I? If memory serves I pulled much the same trick on you the last time we spoke." It was here he would have given a smile, if he possessed flesh.

The Lich leaned back into his chair, though not needing comfort he did not enjoy the feeling of hard wood underneath him. "I think you would be pleased to learn that my kingdom has grown in recent years, I'm sure you heard of the Goblin clans that live out in the Eastern Waste beyond the mountains?" He casually raised a hand to inspect the back of his knuckles. "Suffice to say that I now enjoy a larger realm and a greater number of Thralls. I myself am most curious as to hear what is happening to the north, seeing as your realm borders mine from there and the Elves in my employment have been getting rather... Jumpy of late, I was hoping you could shed some light on that patch of grey. Which I remember as a skill of yours."

It was with some disappointment on his part that the meeting was moved on as swiftly as it was, but then again immortals didn't have all the time in the world. "Your ability to find out important details never ends does it? Indeed I am planning on meeting this upstart Dark Lord from the west, I am most curios how he has been able to achieve in 100 years what took me 300 to accomplish." He leaned forwards here to look the Witch Queen in the pits of her golden eyes. "So far I wish to discover who he is, as best I can. To learn the extent of his power, and of course how much he is willing to give away to earn my aid. I after all recently came across a rather juicy piece of information." He paused for a second. "Of course this information has little impact on one such as yourself, but for me it is the most important thing I have ever encountered." He watched her smile grow, knowing full well where her mind was going. "My Lady, if you think after this time I am simply going to betray you, I'm utterly hurt. You should after all know we are the powers here in the east, and if this Dark Lord decides to wage war on one of us, it is with both of us he fights." He put particular emphasis on this, to demonstrate that he if he could not defeat an invasion then Belladonna would have little more hope. "No. I am simply here to make the initial demands and political trading of blows that must of course happen, I'll of course inform you before I make any decision, what would a tyrant be without advice after all?"

Eahara

”Like hell am I going with you!,” Eahara snapped, her eyes narrowing at Ysran as if he were some traitor to her cause. Her quarry was getting away as they spoke and she could not allow another step to be taken without her double timing it after that damned orcish warband. ”I need to kill Tharac now! I cannot jeopardize my mission now, you cur!,” the Kobold growled before turning away from the two and to retrieve her essentials from a skeleton that had delicately been holding them, snatching them away. After securing her bow she began to walk towards the tree line where she had seen Tharac’s warband go, eager to begin hunting her quarry once more. ”If one of you wants to tag along then keep up,” she said in a tone that really stated that they had not get on her way again.

Soon she disappeared into the tree line, breaking into a sprint and bobbing and weaving between trees and bushes. If Eahara hurried then she knew she could catch up to the warband in no time, her only hope would be that they did not suddenly change direction. Then again, an orc’s foot was large and easy to track thus making the situation all the better as all she had to do was look down to see if there were any large footprints to keep up with, which there was, and keep on the trail. Those two fools had slowed her and she wanted to skin them for interfering in her mission against the Dark Lord.
