Well "real" roleplaying started actually when I made my own forum board and did it with a small group of friends. I made several sites, and forgot the names of most of them. :D Last time I check a spambot took over one of them.

Technically, I first started roleplaying on Club Penguin, but I wasn't aware I was RPing at the time.

I truly first started RPing on the Barnes and Nobles NOOK, starting with a random Warriors RP Clan called AshClan. A lot of RPs on the Nook are super disorganized (expected when working with a review format). There was godmodding, autohitting, bunnying, Mary Sues, and puppeting galore on the NOOK. Most of my RP horror stories come from my time on the NOOK, actually.

I think my very first role-playing experience online was around 1998 or 1999 on an interactive fanfiction site, though I associate my official message board role-playing history dating back to 2001. So I’ve been in it for a long time, though I suspect Amalthea having some years on me in that regard.

it was a virtual world w/ its own forums, and one of the forum sections was called "offworld discussion", for topics not directly related to the game

some of my friends from SW made forum roleplays on offworld forum, and I ended up getting into RP from those

of course, we were all like 11 at that time and we sucked, but it was tons of fun! and i still talk to them to this day (though we don't rp as much anymore, and we've all mostly quit smallworlds lol)

I started roleplaying back in 2012 on WarriorCatsRPG,now known as FeralFront. Was a fun place but about a year in it transitioned to a one direction fan roleplaying site. I have many fond memories there-from that place I grew to love medieval settings,and one roleplay in particular transitioned into a whole world that has many stories,many events, and many genres included. and it's only been 5 years :3

Some shitty RP site literally just called TheRoleplaySite or something like that in mid 2014. Admins weren't really that good, and the community wasn't really active, so I didn't stay very long. I eventually found this site after a while of searching and joined. I was a newbie to roleplaying during that time, so I was a complete idiot who godmodded and took control of other people's characters. Eventually, I got bored, and went searching again.

I found another site called RpNation, and joined. I stayed on the site for more than a year, improving my writing skills and know-how. Then the site went through some dramatic shift. The formats and everything changed, BBCodes messed up. It took a while to get used to, but I managed for a while. When I decided that the site just wasn't what it used to be, I went inactive. Then I returned to this site.

So here I am, with a bunch of assholes I don't even know.

actual rp I started 1999, did something called efedding which is wrestling rp but it was through this promotion called Shane-o wrestling federation. play by post style it started late 2003 though I didn't know what I was doing actually, found out it was called roleplay early 2004 and I have been going ever since.

First serious one was, in all places, on Battle.net in Diablo 1 and continued for a few years on Diablo 2. It was a strange system with terrible chatboxes, but the adventure was born, and the first group I ever did anything with was created. Said group I was involved with for a long journey before disbanding a little while before I joined the guild.

The very first one was where I was introduced to a DnD board. I looked at the dice and went "nope". I guess that was my first experience. >.<

First RP was off on the Bethesda (back in the heyday of Lor, Tedders, Rhedd, Allie, Nal, and Slyvos, amongst others) and KOEI in like 2002: I can't recall which was first...might've been KOEI then Bethesda, but...either way. Then moved to a Proboards sites (shadowdragon999.proboards.com) for quite a while, along with all of the various successor sites with the same handful of people, all of whom drifted in from the KOEI boards, for ages. That (Shadowdragon) was my first "real" RP site that was wholly dedicated to it.

Nintendo Nsider forums, back in the early-mid 2000s. They ended up killing their forums by making it Nintendo software and hardware discussion only but their RP board was fun while it lasted.

First place for me was the Forum Roleplaying section of the forums on Planet Minecraft. Think my first RP involved enderman invading the world and at the same time had Glados and a guy swinging around like spiderman with a fishing pole. Going back and reading that thing wasn't good for my self esteem haha.

The Spore Forums, they had an RP section that was more-or-less unpoliced since the mods didn't ever want to admit it even existed. Then the power structure or something changed and they decided they would, and me and the group of friends I RP'd with left; if because most of us were under direct threat of the mods.

At that time there weren't even admins to keep an eye on the mods. They became the admins by default.
