Whatever works for you @Peaceless. I said you could remain a gnome if you were dead set on it. Either way.. I just didn't want this to resemble a LOTR type environment with all sorts of races running around. Either way it is up to you.. I'd prefer them to be all human, but I can overlook it if need be.

One thing I would maybe change would be the Firearms skillset. There is a -2 modifier for flintlocks that is to be rolled by everyone who uses them, sort of a standard thing. Also when using a flintlock everyone rolls a standard d10 just like an attack roll so I'm not entirely sure that you'd benefit from having it anyway.

However I do like the idea of a such a place where little people dwell. Pygmies..

Aha. So using weapons is a constant roll? I wanted her to shoot well, but if it is impossible I will change the skill.

@Peaceless
From what I understood, you don't have to constantly roll for things, just maybe once per post to give it a random element to it, something that is out of our control. And even then, we'd only have to roll where we think it counts the most, so if you wish to shoot cans and demonstrate your skill with the firearm, you are welcome to write it as you see fit, but if there's a tense situation where you are almost caught or some other major event, then you'd have to roll for it and go with the outcome.

Depending on the roll, you can continue on as intended, or write around it, like due to some circumstance, your aim was off and you hit a shoulder instead of where you've been aiming. Or the gun misfires completely. I'd wait for @Arkitekt to confirm this though.

@Peaceless, @Genbor is correct in that you don't have to roll for every little action.. Once per fight, or whatever is fine to determine the path or overall outcome of the situation. However, whenever firing a firearm you should roll with the modifier for each shot fired. It isn't really about your ability to hit the mark, it is more about the current performance of firearms at this particular moment in time. I may in the future (somewhat of a spoiler) present a vendor or market in which certain firearms of a higher make and quality will become available. However, firearms should be generally thought to be sketchy contraptions for the most part, and are simply at a fledgling status in their existence as it currently stands. Definitely more about the quality and capabilities of the equipment, and not the player.

But @Genbor is correct in the statement that you don't have to roll for every single blow in a fight or whatever, just when using a skillset or firearm. When attacking or in when you are in a fight, one d10 roll should be sufficient enough to cover the entire confrontation. The lower the roll the poorer the performance, leaving it up to you on how you want to convey your level of success in your post, if that makes sense?

Also keep in mind that these thieves are for the most part underachieving individuals, at least to some degree. For this reason, some mishaps should be expected. Unlikely heroes to say the least.

@Genbor Qouting: 'Depending on the roll, you can continue on as intended, or write around it, like due to some circumstance, your aim was off and you hit a shoulder instead of where you've been aiming. Or the gun misfires completely.'

This is exactly what the roll is intended for, and is the main reasoning behind all of these roll guidelines. Mostly to ensure that there is a bit of spontaneity and uncertainty of some of the situations and outcomes in our posts, making sure that we adhere more to our characters and their abilities, rather than our story mode fingers and brains.. Spot on.. Very well said.

As an example, say you get into a firefight or a confrontation of some sort. You roll a 7 out of ten (Fairly good roll, better than average) so the outcome will be a win.. But say you fire two shots from your flintlock, one is good but the second ends in a catastrophic malfunction rendering your firearm useless for the rest of the battle, causing you to have to rethink how you win the fight.. Even if you were to get a poor roll of say 3 or 4, it doesn't necessarily mean that you lose, it just means that your performance isn't going to be very pretty, and may result in an injury, or some other cost or setback.. All of that is up to each player to sort out, the rolls are there just to keep our writings as malleable and genuinely surprising (even to the author) as possible.

Not trying to inconvenience you by any means. Trying to keep the rules as simple and as thin as possible. I'd rather we all spent more time enjoying ourselves than sifting through copious amounts of rules. Hopefully you aren't having to alter too much. Sorry for the gnome thing too. Just a bit of preference on my part...

Well, when I saw there'd be dice rolls, I might've gotten a little ahead of myself. And to be honest there isn't much info on the topic of character creation in the OOC. So it's guesswork, and you're either right or you aren't. I wasn't. Not giving up yet.

@Peaceless, thanks for being so understanding. That is my fault for not being more specific. About the double post, I'll see what I can do..

If it can't be deleted somehow, it could just be reserved for @Peaceless's next post.

I sent Mahz a request to have it deleted. Either way, it is taking up much room... not really bothering me that much.. maybe a visual reference to your previous post @Peaceless to fill in the space? If you have an image you'd like to use but needs editing or cropping and you can't do it yourself just send it to me and I can do it and send it back.. whatever works.. Mahz will most likely strike it though..

It's sooo weird how this platform has no post deletion solution... I'm sure Mahz can kill it so prefer not to gamble with putting more stuff in there. My next post is in the works, but I prefer not have it spontaneously vanish, so it will be an additional one.

@Peaceless that's probably the safest bet. Either way it doesn't take up much space so I'm not bothered by it in the least.

@YungTweak

Very nice post. If you could encase it in a Hider that would be great. For reference:

[hider=Your character]
Your CS.
[./hider] -> without the dot

@YungTweak I like the character idea very much. There are two things though that need a bit of tweaking. One is his appearance. The era or setting of this narrative is perhaps a little prior to his attire. Also the skillset of Sharpshooter and firearms handling will have to be changed. There is a dice roll system for using firearms (found at the beginning of the OOC, and zero page of IC boards), and is intended to be used upon each round fired. The flintlocks of this story are very inaccurate, unreliable, and can malfunction for any number of reasons. This roll applies to all characters, so if you can think of another skillset to use in its stead then you're in.

Also if you could take a look at my character sheet here and match up the available info. Don't forget to use the hider, and post your currency and ammo outside of the hider so it's easier to keep track of:

https://www.roleplayerguild.com/posts/4472963

Do all that and you're free to Do an opening post. One thing though is that you will have to start from the dungeon we all are currently in since you're coming in a bit late, but I would try and think of a good story explaining how you got in there. I will go ahead and add you to the Lockup list. Glad to have you aboard.

I'll get to work on those changes momentarily in a quick edit and post within the characters' board shortly thereafter, then catch up to where the group is at and figure a way into the situation.

@YungTweak Fantastic, glad you've taken interest in the rp.. If all goes well it should be a good read and fun to write. Do you understand how the rolling system works? It's pretty simple, as bare bones as I could make it.

@Arkitekt Yeah, I looked over at how the rolling system works. Seems fairly simple enough. I've finished the suggested edits and posted the sheet on the character's board. Unless I'm being waited on to continue, I'll take a moment to read everything thus far and think up a good introduction. Very excited to get started!
