Don't see how these two integers (selectivity vs. proof reading) are correlated. Explain.

I couldn't take that such a thing seriously. So I'm mostly being sarcastic. And I also didn't mean that personally, if that person wrote that themselves. Wasn't a strike on them. It seemed to be a random example they pulled from the forum itself. So I made it a general statement.

I'm actually indifferent on this original subject. (And this doesn't even seem to be about that.) But I already posted my thoughts.

But yes, if I personally read that. I'd roll my eyes. A personal pet peeve that people shouldn't be picky. If they can't even put the basic effort of spell checking their interest check. (It's demanding someone else follow their strict guidelines and it's clear they don't take the process of writing seriously. So how can you?)

I do think some people and how they write or what they're looking for, may genuinely get more enjoyment out of just writing their own story by themselves. Being told what I need to be, my character's history, background, personality. Is not fun. Roleplaying is supposed to be fun for both people...when it stops being that. I feel like it might as well be classified as work, you're not getting paid for...

Still can't really see the correlation therein. Someone makes a spelling error or grammatical error and that instantly disqualifies them from having certain demands or preferences. Gotcha. Perhaps reflect on yourself. There are more things you can fix about your own writing than you can find in theirs.

I’ve read enough to think, “This isn’t an issue of right or wrong. Why are some people trying to make it a morality issue?”

It’s choice. Pure and simple. Why do they make this choice? Iono. I’ve got a few guesses, I’ve seen similar theories already tossed out. Personally I’ve been burned in the past by it in both 1x1 and group RP. I’m not a guy IRL, so they don’t want me.

Oh well, move on. Guild is all about freedom and your RP being your domain. For that reason I don’t see this ever changing. And that’s okay.

That's perfectly fair. I did say personal pet peeve. I'm aware it's an opinion I have.

Some people think being a judge is okay without putting effort in their writing.

I take basic spellcheck (like post it anywhere or use google chrome 'fixes itself' kind of writing problem, that is the ultimate laziness when not done.) as "I actually care about the other person who is reading this." 1X1's do require the other person to read it. A roleplayer needs to write interestingly/well. To make it enjoyable to write and to read. (again personal thoughts here. The thread is full of that. And the original comment is asking for personal thoughts.)

As for the last thing. If it's actually for my roleplay posts/interest check I created. I would genuinely want people to point out writing mistakes. Or give suggestions, or ask if something is confusing. Because as a roleplayer I'm trying to improve. I'm always self critical, and I do spellcheck and try to catch grammar mistakes and words that could be cut out so the reader has more fun reading my writing.

General chat or casual messages. No. And some people don't grasp the difference. But a novel or story without other people. Can easily just be for yourself. But when you RP. It does, burden others if you lack any care in the writing you do.

@SleepingSilence If you were serious about Ellri's spelling mistake, but also serious about having others point out your errors, I could go through your last post and make it more readable. There's a lot of things in here that don't add up.

@Odin I don't put effort in casual messages, because it's casual messages. If someone was bitching I misspelled something over a text on my phone, or a facebook message -when not calling anyone out for it-. Would be a waste of time...

Writing, professional writing. Which is what roleplaying should be. Is what I want to improve. I know I have a problem with adding things that could be cut, I would still tell people about it. Hoping to receive respect. And give respect back to those who do the same for my roleplay writing.

Even as wordy as the general ramble I sent you...it doesn't have a spellcheck problem now does it?

I also didn't know if it was their own mistake, I thought it may just be a general thing they found. But I have no personal problem with it, as an outsider.

But I still would point out that mistake. Because on a roleplaying forum, I think it's perfectly reasonable to do so, since it relates to roleplaying. I care about my roleplaying experience. If I was their partner and this stranger constantly had typo's and errors, that just me being on google chrome instantly highlights for me...(and when it doesn't, because it's not perfect, I usually post it elsewhere to double check, just in case.) I'd feel like it's not a 50/50 split effort.

Spelling errors are one thing if obvious, I try to catch them all and yes. On a long post ages will slip by and the odd their or there might be out.

I still try to achieve a basic standard, and stick to it though. Sure the grammar and wording may not be perfect but long as I have done what I can, I'm not worried about every last correct comma.

We have a name already for ignoring a partner gender in...*cough*..shall we say...potentially heart racing RPs.

It's called A Game of Pretend.

Agreed 100%. And I'll say even just skimming through your writing, or posting it on a spellcheck website. Is already putting more effort than a lot of people do. And it's appreciated by me, and hopefully by anyone you roleplay with.

Nobody is perfect and shouldn't expect it. A writer will always work on improving their writing. But feedback from others is essential for that.

Aye. I tend to check when I'm working on doing speech italics etc and do a last check over before I post it up.

Also. Well if you GM. It's one that goes without saying lol. If you expect it. Do it. Normally catch all my major mistakes there.

Lastly. Cheeky pitch. Modern Slice of Life. Link in my status. :)
If you like what you see say hi!

Leave it to the Guild to veer a thread complaining about gender restrictions in 1x1 interest checks into the topic of grammar.

It does appear we forgot a ) in the example. Oh well. some things do occasionally sneak past spellcheckers and grammar control. A result of writing while megatasking, we suppose.

also @SleepingSilence... That example doesn't actually make much of any choices for the other player... all it says is that the player must be willing to play such, not that she would need to actually play that. In fact, the bit "Not that the RP will concern such" specifically implies playing such is not going to be the plot.

But that's a bit of a digression.

We suppose? Was this a group effort? Megatasking, might not be a word, but maybe it can become one...because that feels like the day I'm having.

So it was written by you then? Was it as a joke? Or serious example? Regardless, it is making a choice.

I actually also completely missed the intelligent requirement...which makes my correct spelling thing even more valid to bring up...so I don't even know why it was questioned in the first place, now that I re-read the entire statement.

I may have misread that as the person needs to play a character that does those things, vs. the person themselves. Which is even more absurd actually and even though I don't care if people are picky about their roleplaying choices for such surface level things...but something like that doesn't make a good case for it.

The more a thread details the more it shows that maybe the original topic has been discussed and explored enough. People are trying to see if any other information is relevant, even if they gotta branch into other areas.

Summary: maybe the topic is now old news.
