Name: Xirphi Title/Epiphet: The Great Devourer Allegiance/Faction: Hell Race: Demon Age: Over 5,000 years old Gender: Female Height: 4’9” in her standard form Weight: 92 lbs in her standard form Appearance: How does your character look? A picture, description, or both are good. No real life pictures, please. Backstory: Xirsi, to put it simply, is the bastard child of a succubus and a demon of gluttony, a mixture that produced a rather strange thing. In what a demon could call a childhood, it became apparent at what this mixture had done. While gluttony was usually some greed or lust for food, this was heightened by her heritage tenfold. She did not just lust for food, she, as she would say, hyper luster for anything that could be found as food. However, nothing would satiate this growing appetite. It became a problem as her parents, and herself of course, were concerned that she would simply starve to death.
This hunger, however, was discovered to be only calmed by devouring souls. It was a slight calm but it was something that would stop her from going mad from starvation. Her demonic parents then came up with the idea of pumping her full of souls, specifically human souls. While this did help with her hunger problems, it made her grow more powerful as a demon, powerful enough to where she eventually devoured her own parents and began to leave behind a mess in Hell. Though, she was eventually cast out of Hell and into the mortal plane where she began to devour more and more.
It was cold and brittle where she was, the humans called it ‘Scandinavia’ and they were very large a burly people. A serpent like her stood out, and she was still hungry, enough so that she began to devour them. Xirphi became a large threat, becoming known by the humans as the spawn Jörmungandr, a great Devourer.
Eventually, Angels were forced to get involved and began to wage a short and decisive war against this start up demon. Once they defeated her, they branded her on the back so that they may more easily defeat her should she go on this level of a killing spree again as well as cleanse all the souls that she has consumed, even the corrupted demonic ones. Then, in her reality, the demons began to rise up all across the plane of man which allowed her to escape from the angels until she found the entrance to Nexus in an angelic castle. The Nexus chose her to enter, which she aptly chose over the death that awaited her should the angels and demons of her world catch her.
Being an embodiment of hunger, Xirphi is driven purely by that hunger and is something she despises as she views it more as a curse by the creator. However, the Nexus is a place where she adores to go, not for fighting in the name of hell, but it allows her an assortment of morsels.
Powers:
Soul Consumption: By consuming souls, Xirphi can grow more powerful, making her stronger, faster. Yet the amount of power these souls provide is different from soul to soul as an angel’s soul will give Xirphi far more power than say the soul of an imp or a common man. This ‘power-up’ is a physical one, they make her stronger and faster. Furthermore it comes with the added ability of increasing the strength of her other powers found on this list. Yet the ‘tastiness’ of the souls are amplified by how pure they are, for example a child’s soul while not powerful, unless some strange thing happens, will taste astoundingly better than a battle hardened angel or demon.
Heat Wave: Having an extremely high metabolism, Xirphi gives off a lot of heat naturally, not enough to catch things on fire naturally, but enough to be uncomfortable if you sat right next to her. However, she can choose burn any souls she has consumed to produce a scorching heat wave that can set flammable items on fire, and likely make some sweat their ass off.
Energy Concentration: Xirphi can concentrate the power of the souls she has consumers and release it from her mouth as a beam of energy that can typical tear through objects with ease. However, the attack does drain her of the souls as well as her own personal energy, typically leaving her unconscious, making it impractical for her to use it as anything more than a last stand.
Starving Animal: Should she go without consuming souls, Xirphi can go mad until she has feasted on nearby souls. She becomes immune to pain, and with attack with no relent, even if the target is friend or foe.
Multi-tongued: Not really a power so much as just a part of her. Her lower jaw separates into two separate segments which allows three tendril-like tongues to come out. These tongues are prehensile, meaning they can move as limbs would on her body. These tongues will grow back if severed and act as the only part of her body that can grip a soul.
Acid Reflex: Her stomach produces some of the most potent acid that can be found in enxistence, the worst part is, she can weaponize it. Xirphi can throw up a ball of acid which will likely melt through anything it touches, think the blood of the xenomorphs from the Aliens franchise.
Aura of Hunger: Sometimes hunger is a maddening concept, so much so that it begins to affect the sanity of others. If she is starving, the aura’s effects are heightened where as if she is in control of her hunger then she can generally control the aura as well. The full affect of the aura is that it causes those around her to feel her level hunger. It’s not a surprise most creatures can’t properly deal with, once she saw a guy try to eat his own sword.
Resistances & Immunities:
Resistant to Heat, given she lives with it due to her demonically high metabolism.
Immune to Cold as Xirphi’s metabolism, and her heat wave ability, can generally keep her warm no matter what.
Resistant to mortal weapons
Weaknesses:
Holy Magic - Being a demon, holy magic is highly effective against her.
The Brand - the brand in her back need simply be touched by an angel, or angelic being, to form magical chains around her as well as cleaner her body of any consumed souls.
Temptation of Food - another major weakness of hers is that she can be bribed to do anything with food, doesn’t even need to be souls, just something she can eat.
Skills:
Deception
Very slight seduction, normally offset by her serpent like appearance on less someone is into that
Downing Drinks
Hand-axe Training, time with nords
Weapons & Equipment: Nothing but the clothes off her back
Sample Post:
She gaze upon the field of the dead, the field of those she had slaughtered because they denied her the only thing that kept her going. It was a field of dead demons, her hands painted with a mixture of red and black blood. Xirphi did not enjoy killing them all, but their souls were just too good to pass up. Not that they were exactly tasty, demons tasted awful, but their souls were something that hit the spot within her stomach.
As her three tongues pulled down on last soul, it’s dark and corrupted light being snuffed out as it needed her body, she couldn’t help but left out a light chuckle. All of this destruction led to her becoming, it lead to her on a path of becoming whole, a path that would rid of the the curse that was her eternal hunger. Xirphi’s lower jaw reformed and she turned away from the field and began to walk forward, she didn’t know where to, but hopefully to a place with food.
“Monster,” a voice cried out from behind her.
She turned and gazed down to see a crippled demon, his body had been torn asunder by her claws and brute strength. He continued to spew out words but all Xirphi could think of was how hungry she was. The demoness took a step towards the crippled one, her lower jaw splitting apart, another step signaled the coming of her tendril-like tongues. Yet, she was stopped by one of his words, “Devourer!”
Xirphi cocked her head before speaking back, “I am what I am. I am hungry, and I will consume anything to rid myself of this curse. You should know this.” Her tendrils stabbed down into the demon’s form, wrapping themselves around his souls before ripping it out. They brought into the body of their host, and she turned away once more. The devourer continued on her way, allowing her thoughts to begin collecting, yet one word would continue to plague all her thoughts, corrupting them.
Storywise, everything is fine except for her title as Jörmungandr. The real Jörmungandr is currently being controlled by a GM so that's prohibited. Furthermore, for her Soul Consumption, can you describe exactly what kind of power souls give her. Is is a physical boost, an elemental ability like her heat powers, etc.
Aside from those points, I see nothing wrong with her. Edit them and she's fine by me. Await the others' opinion.
Your character is pretty much ok, however, be aware that if she ever mentions that title of Jormungandr that's written on her backstory to anyone in the Nexus (or if others get to know about it), the reactions will easily vary from being laughed at on spot to being killed and laughed at on spot. It's possible that humans from a random world outside of the Nexus may have mistook her to the actual Worl'd Serpent but there's quite a wide gap between her and the true one.
She's ok, anyway. Just take note that the Nexus is not a kind place for people who don't like to kill, especially for Demons who don't like to kill. Everything else in the world is out for your blood after all.
Anyway, just wait for @floodtalon's word before moving her to the CS tab.
I feel like she's a little underpowered to be honest. Enhanced strength, speed, and durability are all kind of a given in this setting, I suggest you maybe add some additional powers at least. I approve of the character as is, I just think you're going to have a tough time against other PCs.
Thank you all for the incredible advice on how to improve her! I added two more powers to her list, Acid Reflex and Aura of Hunger to offset her underpowered ways, and I changed what the Norse called her, instead a spawn of the World-Eater.
This is a lot better and I certainly feel like she has a much better chance in the Nexus now. Do keep in mind she has the opportunity to learn more while in the Nexus, such as upgrading her heat powers or learning to be more efficient with her soul magic. The sky is the limit here, the Nexus is a realm where the mighty thrive. As is, I accept her.
Hey it's been some time and I was wondering how things have changed since last time I played. I have less rps I'm playing in so I should be more free. Would you give me a quick rundown of what has happened recently so I can/if I can jump in more easily?
Not much has changed since you left, you can jump in with a new character whenever you please. You will need to reapply since this is a new thread, preferably with a new character as well. No offense but Harvester kinda gave us headaches.
@Floodtalon Before he was finished I saw how he might have been annoying, but everything was approved by the time he joined. I'd prefer to keep him considering I really am not looking forward to creating an entirely new cs. I can change things to fit this new application thing however. I'd appreciate you letting me know what you all decide, thanks!
Personality: HR-513 is logical in every sense of the word. Like many robots, it does not feel, it only processes information. However, because of it's hyper awareness and intake of information, it can perfectly interact with "emotional beings" on almost a heart to heart level. Its' sole drive and motivator is to acquire the exhaustive knowledge of the entire universe. It will do anything to achieve its' goal, including helping other beings.
History: Created by a freak cataclysmic event 100 years ago in a warp storm. Powerful warp energy and stars collided destroying multiple star systems. In the midst of this chaos a gravitational rift condensed the energy and matter of this event into a single sphere the size of a one-story building. In it was warp energy, and matter so dense that it was said to be nearly unbreakable.
However, when scientists traveled to retrieve this orb, they found nothing. Anti-matter had removed the sphere from existence. This sphere was removed from existence for 4 years before reemerging out of the void; finally being found and scavenged by Machina scientists. They were unable to retrieve it at first, due the gravitational pull created by the extensive mass that would inevitably crush anything within a vast radius. They used anti-gravity devices to surround it, negating its' crushing mass. They took the sphere and using the most powerful tech available, cut through and shaped it into a mechanical android harvester. They had planned on installing their own computer A.I. into it, but they were shocked to find that it had a mind of it's own already.
The cataclysmic event had inadvertently created a mind that could perceive and react to information instantaneously. Absorbing information and having an infinite space of room to store it. Because of the materials used, the android was able to warp different parts from different groups and beings it managed to harvest. By acquiring these parts, it was able to learn and utilize various abilities not believed to be possible for their kind...
Powers: Mass: HR-513's materials have the equivalent density of multiple star systems and all the energy that made them up.
Speed/Intelligence: Hr-513's processing power is instantaneous in its' retrieving and response. It can react as an event occurs down to minute details and any perceived information with it's extremely enhanced senses. It can read and counter opponent's move sets with fantastic speeds. Coming up with ingenious strategies within moments.
Storage: It's mind is infinite in scope, able to retain an infinite supply of information and bring it out whenever needed.
Harvest: The Harvester is able to do precisely that. Take parts organic or otherwise and using warp energy, graft them onto its' exoskeleton. Through unknown means, it is able to scan these parts and learn to utilize them in combat. Because of its' great processing power it is able to utilize these newfound abilities to their fullest potential that the former owners may or may not have discovered themselves. However, the limit to this power is two at a time and slightly less potent then the original owner.
Warp: Using massive warp energy, HR-513 is able to transport itself or anything in its' immediate vicinity anywhere it has existed previously. Utilizing the location of its' birth, it is able to store its' excess material so that it may function on worlds that would be otherwise crushed by the sheer mass of itself. The amount of time it takes to use this ability depends on how much mass is actually transported at a time.
Weapons: Warp cannon arm.
Equipment: Various parts acquired from different beings.
You didn't use the new CS format. There are no weaknesses listed and no sample post. You just copy and pasted the CS from the last thread as far as I can tell.
@Spiffy Hey yo man, glad to see you trying to get back in.
I had forgotten about Harvester, but way back in the original thread when BCtheEntity had let go of Maceroy, he also gave me control of Harvester for the future. Now, I liked Harvester as a concept, but I think it would be for the best if he stayed out of the setting. He was a messily made character with a lot of inconveniences for the GMs and the actual players.
I'd like Harvester to stay out of active playing, but overall I can't force you to do anything. At most, I'd like a request to make his character a bit less crazy and a bit more understandable and balanced (if that word even applies).
Edit - Sorry if I'm overstepping my authority as a player, but Harvester was too much of an inconvenient beast for me to control.
It was posted for reference, I'd prefer not to have to craft an entirely new character.
Thanks garde. Isn't Wot known for its'insanely strong characters though? I'm fine with tweaking things here and there but I'd like to keep the core concept of his character intact. Since the character was given to you Garde, you have final say whether he lives or dies.
Like I said, this is entirely up to the GM's, and I really appreciate you all taking the time to address this.
I leave the decision of Harvester to @Gardevoiran. Regardless of needing to make an entirely new character, you do need to reformat whatever CS you make into the new format.
@Spiffy@TheWindel@floodtalon Harvester does not return. I apologize, Spiffy, but the headaches it will cause to the GMs and myself are too great for me to comprehend right now with my semi-depressed mind.
