Voss

"I'd much rather you quietly surrender and stop making a needless amount of noise, but you seem hell bent on suicide by combat..." The Shaman was muttering under his breath now as the man, instead of charging him like any decent man might, instead grabbed the thief and carried him along like a living missile. Add in the fact the man had decided to lob a disabled man at him to try and force an edge in the fight, and Voss had to conclude that the man's intelligence was certainly not among his strong suits. Though he was alarmingly accurate, Voss had few options in regards to direction. Backwards, which wouldn't actually get him out of the way, either side would invite a gold toss as to whether or he guessed the man's dominant sword hand right. That left a rather obvious choice, albeit one that would likely hurt. Running forward, he quickly swapped to his Nosferatu tome in anticipation for injuries, throwing himself forward to avoid the thief and aimed to tumble past the sword arm side of Morag, hoping to get past him with minimal injury by robbing him of that diagonal stroke's intended location.

Voss knew full well he had likely been clipped by the blade, which would have damaged his robes as well as himself, he narrowed his eyes briefly as he raised his palm towards Morag. Unlike the Flux he had entered the room with, he still clung onto his Nosferatu tome, channeling a singular strike with the spell. He always prided himself on landing his hits, even if he couldn't overwhelm his foes in a barrage of attacks, and it would hopefully give him an edge in keeping himself alive longer.

Reina glanced up to the mounted prince before glancing down the hallway where Isolde was slowly finding herself surrounded. "Yes, please! Save Isolde! Reina uttered in a bit of a panic as she quickly climbed on top of Marwood's horse, side-saddled right behind the prince. Instinctively, she slipped her arm around the his waist in an effort to hold on better as they rode. When they got close, Reina would attempt to jump off and help engage the enemies however she could.

Marwood

Marwood nodded and Fiona shot herself forward once Reina was safely on her back, as they charged forward Marwood drew up his lance once more aiming for the soldier blocking the way. Isolde was going to get a talking to after this and so would her mount, charging ahead had nearly gotten her killed, did she not have any thought to her own survival or how to best work with others? He shook that off as he neared the soldier he reached a hand back to let Reina take it and swing down as thrust the spear at merc who had encircled the rider.

Once Reina was safely down he tapped Fiona's sides to have her shift her weight, he wanted at the mercenary on the other side of the soldier once the lancer went down.

Voss dodged under the thief, who carried on and crashed into a wall further along the corridor. His speed being somewhat low, Morag’s blade indeed clipped his side dealing a decent bit of damage, but Voss was ready to heal that as he turned to fire Nosferatu at Morag… only to find that Morag had carried on and dashed out of his range instead of actually stopping to fight. To make a statement, Morag is several leagues above the rest of the grunts and beyond Voss’ ability to handle on his own.

Outside Voss’ range, Morag spun around.

‘Careful, I need you alive!’ Morag chuckled to him. This was, however, when the other fight came to impact the current one.

@Rune_Alchemist@Pirouette@Apollosarcher@Eklispe

The Soldier had assumed the Mercenary and Fighter were dealing with Isolde, so he was taken completely by surprise when Kergin bit into his shoulder and threw him into the Mercenary, both the men stumbling and were completely off balance when the rest of the allies arrived. The Fighter attempted to make a brutal chop at Isolde, but she managed to strike his attack out of the air with her halberd, after which Titania arrived behind her and healed the wound done to Kergin with her Mend Staff. Isolde and Kergin were restored to prime condition.

Beside Isolde, Reina came in leaping from Marwood’s horse at the next available opponent, the Soldier. Said Soldier was still struggling from having been thrown by Kergin, and didn’t manage to get a proper guard up to defend against the sword he should have had weapon’s advantage over, and Reina managed to run him through. Harmed beyond recovery, the Soldier fell to the floor. With this first encounter of first-hand combat, Reina gained a bit of valuable experience.

Level Up!
Reina: Level+1, HP+1, SKL+1, SPD+1, LCK+1

the numbers are meaningless, i just felt like rolling for the Fire Emblem feel, heh

Then Marwood rode in at the staggered Mercenary and had weapon’s advantage and everything and fairly easily dispatched him with his lance. Aldo simply followed after Reina, unable to help much due to being in the back and limited range on spells. It was at this point the wounded Fighter by Isolde suddenly came to the conclusion that he wasn’t winning this and that he did, in fact, have some sort of attachment to his life, so he promptly turned to run.

‘SIR! WE’RE NOT WINNING!’ the Fighter cried out past Voss to Morag, who grunted over by his position.

‘Tsk, capable enemies are the worst. Romilda’s not worth it. Guess I’m just going to have to-’ -and that’s where Morag suddenly quieted down as he looked over the incoming group. His eye widened, and a significant amusement seemed to spread over his expression.

‘Why, why, what do I spy with my little eye… Wouldn’t the princess of Grado be one marvelous gift?’ There was quite a glimmer in his look.

‘Six of them? Dangerous, but doable. If I win, my life is made, almost doesn’t even matter who I give her to. If I lose…’ Morag’s eye wandered to Romilda, who was peeking out from the cell with a frown. Morag looked pleased.

‘EH, WE’RE ALL GOING TO DIE ANYWAY, AM I RIGHT!?’ and with that, Morag laughed, pointing his blade in the direction of Marwood and Reina, across the room.

‘I AM MORAG, LEADER OF THE SPIKE GUILD! DOESN’T MATTER IF YOU WERE THE DEMON KING HIMSELF, YOU’RE NOT GETTING PAST ME! GET ON YOUR KNEES AND LINE MY POCKETS! YAAAHAHAHAHA…!’

With that, Morag braced his sword and prepared to dash, his eyes first targeting Voss because he was the closest, and he was prepared to launch an attack.

The Fighter whimpered at Morag’s statement and continued running with the intention of getting out of here.

Voss

"That very much sounds like a problem for you to resolve, I have no need to pull punches." Rather than pursue the mercenary leader, Voss continued backwards, moving towards the cell while facing Morag. While he had been injured, a hand coming to rest on his side and coming away bloody confirming this, he was now squarely positioned between Morag and his goal. Which now meant that the mercenary was going to have to go through him to accomplish his original goal instead of being able to merely hold off the Shaman long enough for either the thief to have recovered, an unlikely situation now, or to have to retreat. Considering he recognized, in the brief glimpse of the oncoming party, her highness Reina, it was unlikely that Morag would be able to accomplish his goal now. A smart man would have retreated at this point, but clearly intelligence was not one of this mercenary's strong suits. Proclaiming a last stand of sorts, he merely cocked an eyebrow as he backed up to the cell, glancing out of the corner of his eye to confirm that Romilda was still safe and sound in her cell. "I see they failed to pick a simple lock. That speaks poorly for their preparedness, does it not?"

Focusing on the threat at hand, Voss noted that Morag was dashing his way again, though the distance was considerably more than if Voss had simply stood his ground. Patiently waiting for Morag to enter range now, Voss would launch an attack with Nosferatu, focusing himself on the threat at hand. "Line your pockets? How crass. I would recommend fleeing and living for another day, but that requires to at least pretend to have a spark of intelligence..."

Isolde

With the Soldier and Mercenary dealt with, Kergin hissed at the retreating Fighter and Morag. Isolde gave her mount a pat on his neck as the others arrived, regrouping momentarily in the narrow hallway. Whew. This was her first time in actual combat, wasn't it? She couldn't help but to both be nervous and a little apprehensive, but so far things had been going well. Training had been paying off, then? Well, she tried not to think about it.

"Aha, thanks for the healing, Tania." Isolde gave a friendly wave to the healer before focusing her sights back on the retreating fighter and Morag...who was currently fighting someone else? Well, an enemy of thy enemy is thy friend and all that. She turned back to Reina only briefly - she seemed fine. That was good. She'd feel terribly if she let Lord Rioga down. Still, they weren't out of the woods yet, were they? They needed to hurry and beat this guy up and Kergin seemed a little too eager, staring down the retreating Fighter.

"Whoa, settle down boy," She rubbed his neck. No need to go after a retreating enemy who had no desire to fight. Instead, she turned her attention back to the the enemy leader. "gotta focus on the big guy..." She frowned, Kergin shifting his weight. Some sort of defensive play would be good here, right? So what should she do? He looked fairly skilled and she wasn't entirely sure she could take him - not without a good bit of help.

"Hey hey, Marwood," She turned to her ally, hoping for a bit of insight. "Think you can take the guy?"

Titania

Titania was pleased to see everyone else quickly followed, Reina even jumping on Marwood's mount to accelerate the tempo of battle and take care of another enemy. It wasn't that she enjoyed seeing people die but, it felt like an adequate revenge for the fallen knight behind them. Besides, it wasn't like there was another way to get through. "Just keep doing your best." Titania said cheerily in response to Isolode's thanks. With that flurry of fighting it seemed there were only a few enemies remaining. If Titania had been wondering who one of them was, Morag, leader of the Spike Guild, made that a non-issue. Unfortunately for him, he was significantly outnumbered and his only friend seemed to be running for the hills. "We should surround him and wear him down." Titania said, more to herself than proclaiming actual strategy to the others, but still audible. They should also probably attack quickly, lest Morag attempt to attack the fellow behind him and flee, even if his proclamation indicated no such intent. For now she waited behind Isolode, as she seemed the most likely to charge forward. They were all in tip-top shape and Titania would ensure they stayed that way as best as she could.

Marwood

Marwood clicked his tongue and readied his lance looking at swordsman a distance away frowning, he looked as Isolde and nodded. "I can take him, help Reina and the others get past. I'll deal with the damned mercenary then join you." Marwood told them as looked at the others. "Reina, why don't you go see what that Shaman has to say? He's not our enemy it seems and he could be one of your people." He added thinking it might have been someone sent to help make sure they escaped, Reina stood the best chance of convincing them to help, either way, she was the future ruler of Grado.

He looked at Morag as Fiona had moved to charge into position the horse cantered forward, then with a tap at her sides she broke into a gallop the charger readied herself as Marwood aimed his lance. "You want a fight! Face a knight of Renais coward!" He called out as he aimed his lance for the man's chest Fiona carrying the young prince forward at considerable speed as he made his taunt.

Reina managed to befall her opponent before her (with a little help again) and felt, for the briefest of moments, she was getting stronger. Regardless, there were more pressing things at hand and her confidence did wane a bit as she heard the sort of boss mercenary charge at them. Thankfully it seemed that Marwood was stepping up to protect them. She was worried about him, merely nodding, in response to his command as she planned on side skirting the fight to approach the shaman that had just arrived.

@Eisenhorn

Voss dropped that little line to Romilda as he got closer. In response, a somewhat calmed down Romilda scoffed a bit at him and walked closer to the bars, looking out.

‘Perhaps. But save belittling your opponents for when they’re not trying to kill you,’ Romilda stated, looking past him at Morag, who…

@Apollosarcher

Morag just grinned at Voss’ words, skipping replying in favor of dashing at him with his sword raised, but before he got close he stopped in his tracks due to seeing Marwood on Fiona come galloping down the prison corridor with a lance at the ready, advantageous against Morag’s sword. However, Morag was a skilled swordsman himself. With a skilled slice, he managed to divert the lance from striking him straight in the chest, instead it just somewhat cut the side of the Mercenary. Morag didn’t even react from the damage. In return, Morag leapt forth, slicing strong, skilled swipes upwards at Marwood where he sat on top of Fiona.

‘Knight of Renais, eh!? You wouldn’t happen to come from a rich family, would you!? I’ll see if I can take you alive, too!’ Morag called back in an amused tone to Marwood, apparently not recognizing him, as he attacked. With the assumption that Marwood’s going to defend himself, the prince found that while the use of a lance against his opponent’s sword helped him, his opponent was significantly stronger, faster, tougher and overall more experienced. This was an experienced warrior, more dangerous than the average Revenant or Bonewalker. Marwood would find himself nicked a bit at the sides, and felt that if he’d stay there fighting by himself then he’d eventually be overwhelmed. Fortunately for him…

Voss stood ready to cast his dark spell, and Morag’s assault had brought him into range, his attention on Marwood.

‘UGH!’ Morag staggered as a magical sigil formed around him, and with a wave of dark energy from within a portion of his life-energy left him upon the spell being cast, a significant hit of magical damage dealt. Said dark life-energy swirled over to Voss, sinking into the shaman and healing his wounds, restoring him to full health. Morag, looking significantly paler and having lost a significant part of his vitality, glared past Marwood at Voss.

‘… Change of plans. YOU DIE! With that shout, Morag made a mad dash to get past Marwood, holding his sword ready to wave off an attack from Marwood before intending to slice at Voss should he be allowed to get into range, looking like he intended to get in a horizontal slice that would potentially cut him in half. Marwood alone might be a bit hard-pressed to stop him.

@Rune_Alchemist@Pirouette@Eklispe

Isolde had not made an attack yet, so assumingly she headed a bit forward after Marwood as Marwood weathered Morag’s initial attack. Titania hanged on behind her, keeping reasonably safe. Reina got closer to Voss, but due to the fact Marwood had engaged on horseback that above all happened first and hadn’t reached him yet. Aldo was hanging after her looking to defend her in case she ever got attacked, and now getting a view of the scene he frowned, looking at the fleeing Fighter.

‘If that Fighter gets away, he may share what he has seen with his allies, and then they’ll know what they’re looking for,’ Aldo informed, clearly of the impression that the Fighter’s life was not worth the danger. That said, the Fighter was running in full speed, so only someone mounted would be able to catch up if they so decided to, unless they had a more fancy strategy in mind. Of course, then there was the more immediate danger of Morag.

What would they do now?

Isolde

"On it!" Help Reina and the others get past? Easy enough! There was a person locked up here too, wasn't there? Judging from the magical-stone thing. It'd be easy enough to just scoop Reina up and get her out of here at full speed, though she was pretty sure Reina would disapprove. Of course, then Aldo made a suggestion about going after the fighter. Isolde hesitated - he was fleeing, so he shouldn't be an immediate problem. At the same time, Aldo was right - if word got back to his allies, well...

Isolde frowned. She didn't want to needlessly kill anyone, but they were short on time, and there really wasn't telling what would happen if one guy made it out to tell the rest of the entire enemy force about them being here...but such was her job to make sure nothing happened to Reina. Killing him would be the best course of action, even if he didn't intend to fight.

"Got him! Titania, make sure nothing happens to Reina!" Isolde pulled back the reigns on her mount before urging Kergin forwards. She could handle herself, after all. She was a tough girl and Kergin would likely try to eat anyone that so much as dared touch her. The large Wyvern barreled forwards, snapping at the fleeing fighters legs as soon as he was in range and would attempt to pick him up before tossing him into a nearby wall.

Titania

"Got it!" Titania said as Isolode barreled ahead after the fleeing fighter. She moved up to follow Reina, keeping a close eye both on the princess and the leader of the Spike Guild. It seemed his bark had some bite to it, as he seemed to be matching Marwood even while at a disadvantage. While following Reina in case Morag tried something fishy, Titania should also be able to quickly move to help anyone that found Morag's blade had a bit too much bite to it. It would be horrible to have someone become grievously injured just as the last enemy was being defeated.

Marwood

Marwood cursed as the blade bit into his side, he turned Fiona with a snap on the reins. "I'm not done with you yet, you dastard!" He cursed and charged between Voss and Morag. "Your facing me you damnable mercenary!" He spun his lance with practiced elegance. "And unless you care to unseat me from my horse, you won't touch this man." He looked at Morag, he might not have had the experience of skill to beat him but he could damn sure hold the line and keep Morag busy.

"Spellslinger." He called to the man behind him keeping his eyes on Morag. "Stay behind me and don't let up and don't worry about me... Take more than some Jehanna mercenary snake to bring done me." He spoke wanting to get Morag angry and keep his attention focused on the cavalier rather than on the spell caster behind him.

Isolde chased after the Fighter. The Fighter heard the incoming Wyvern and spun to attempt defending himself, but he was far less prepared than Kergin was. He swiped his axe high and Kergin ducked his head below it, successfully snapping at the Fighter’s legs. He let out a shout of pain before being picked up and thrown into the wall, promptly finished. In the distance, Aldo nodded approvingly.

<Most reasonable assumed action for Voss: Avoid taking damage and throw a Flux (as not currently damaged)>

<Most reasonable assumed action for Reina: Engage enemy from side>

Marwood rode and charged with superior movement, keeping Morag from getting to Voss. Morag looked notably angered, glaring up at Marwood.

‘FINE! HAVE IT YOUR WAY! OFF! Morag cried out and jumped at Marwood. The mercenary’s currently superior experience meant he avoided Marwood’s lance, and managed to get a full-powered swing into Marwood’s side in a way that would have looked lethal…

… Except Marwood had what Morag did not. Support. Having seen Marwood get injured in the earlier scuffle, Titania had rightly looked at others than Reina to support, appearing in time to heal the wound. The healing magic of Titania’s staff kept Marwood up, in the way, and locking Morag in place.

And then came two Dark spells from either side and a Rapier as Aldo and Voss individually cast their spells and Reina dashed in from the side. The Flux spells arose from the floor and struck into the mercenary twice, staggering him so he could not react in time as Reina came in and ran him through.

‘Urgh…’ Morag glared forward at Marwood, who had refused to die from his powerful blade, swaying where he was. ‘Damn it… Lord Ansovald… You said this would be easy…’ And so, Morag spent the last couple moments blaming the one who hired him instead of his own tactics as he collapsed backwards onto the floor.

The experience was shared among those involved in taking him down. One of them was less experienced than the rest, and as such grew to the next level.

Romilda breathed out within her cell.

‘Hmpf, well done. Now, out with you all. You carry the Fire Emblem, correct? Away. Get it to safety,’ she said, standing straight and commanding.

‘As for you, why did you even come? Alone, you wouldn’t have stood a chance against those mercenaries, young Shaman. You should have just protected your own skin. I was safe enough in here already, thanks to you,’ she attempted to reprimand Voss for his appearance here.

‘We need to keep going, someone might have heard us,’ Aldo said, though his eyes wandered at Romilda…

‘… I’m okay with dying if you feel I’m too dangerous to leave in enemy hands,’ Romilda raised her chin as she said, neutral expression. Aldo frowned. The rest was left to the others present. She had the same knowledge as the Fighter that was just chased down and more, after all.

Isolde

Ha! Success!

Isolde gave a small shout of victory once Morag fell, excitedly bouncing in her seat. Well, that had gone well. Aside from a few small cuts and bruises they were doing well. With a flourish of her Halbered, she placed it back in its holder on Kergin's saddle as she turned to the others. They all seemed fine, too then. She breathed out, letting the previous nervousness fade somewhat. They could do this, then right? They just had to get the Fire Emblem to safety, right?

...

She cast a glance over to Romilda and Voss.

"Uhm uhm, I dunno who you are but thanks for the help!" Isolde shouted to Voss, moving Kergin over closer to the others present. Ah, what should she do here? She didn't know if she should voice her opinion of letting Romilda come with them or not. Leaving her here to die seemed cruel and dangerous, but after what she did...she was reminded of her own father. "D'ya think we should let her come with us?" Isolde voiced quietly, in an unsure manner.

Titania

Titania gave a sigh of relief as the last foe finally fell and everyone was still okay, thanks to a little bit of help from herself of course. It had looked a bit dicey for Marwood which was why she'd ran over and helped. Now they had jumped the first hurdle, they could probably get out of the castle and get a little bit further away before running into more trouble, though she had no doubt that they would do just that. "We should let her out. Even if she's a criminal, surely she doesn't deserve to be locked up to die, or worse: whe- I mean if the invading army gets here." Titania changed her words at the last moment, feeling like it wouldn't be appropaite to say the defending force was doomed to fail when it consisted of Reina's father. Anyway, leaving somebody locked up in a jail cell was basically a death sentence. Furthermore she seemed to know about the Fire Emblem and that they needed to keep it safe, so she might even be willing to help them. Surely a pardon in a time like this wasn't too much to ask for?

Marwood

"I'm no fan of magic... And I know she's a bit infamous but, she's knowledgeable and no threat without her magic." The prince added, looking warily at the woman. "We cannot abandon her to die here, and if we're going to keep the Emblem safe we need all the help we can get. Even if it means trusting criminals, better than Jehanna's who've caused all this pain for Grado." Marwood sighed and waited to see what Reina made of the situation.

Voss nodded to Isolde’s thanks before turning and exchanging a couple of words with Romilda, keeping silent for some reason. Romilda mostly glared at him in return.

Aldo looked at each of the three that spoke in turn about the woman’s fate, and then joined with looking towards Reina. Reina took a little bit of time considering the best cause of action, before replying.

"I think we should-"

SLAM

Chapter 1 - In Times of Need

The impact came too quickly for anybody to react to, from a source that had come running far too silently. An elbow impacted Reina’s head all of a sudden, the princess finding her vision going black and being unable to retain consciousness. The unknown robed figure that had delivered the blow promptly caught her, giving a slight smile in the direction of those that remained.

‘She’s the one who has the thing, right? Right. So sorry, but I’m taking this one.’

As several people were probably in the motion of intercepting him when he finished that sentence, the unknown man holding Reina’s unconscious form had already started running away at a phenomenal speed, which only maybe could be caught up to by those who were mounted. On his feet…

‘… Tsk, he has Swiftsoles…!’ Aldo informed in distress, his own motion far too slow to catch up to the Rogue running for the exit they were all heading for.

While the rest of them could decide what they thought was the most reasonable course of action, Voss turned to Romilda’s cell, picking up the key in the priest’s pocket next to the bars.

"I’ll be letting you out," he said for Romilda, and began undoing the curse placed on the prison doors. Of course, that probably was taking far too long for the people in the prison.

The Rogue that had claimed Reina was dashing for the secret exit they were to leave through, already opened at the end of the corridor where a brick wall had been moved aside by Morag’s group as they came in. The size was not entirely friendly for horses or Wyverns should they move at high speeds, but the Rogue wasn’t going to be having any problems.

What would they do?

Meanwhile!

On top of a Wyvern, two humans and a Manakete were approaching the town surrounding Grado Keep. There were lower-level Jehannan troops running about town, fighting pockets of resistance and seeking to route them out. Seemed like the higher-level guys had all ran into the keep while the grunts were sent into the town around.

Hevel was utterly still, holding onto Servus and letting Kara sleep on him best she wanted. The time to wake up was approaching, however. Should Kara try to feel it, she’d feel the Fire Emblem following a passage underground (at fairly high speed) and it felt like it would eventually emerge among the buildings to the right. That may not be entirely ideal.

Would they have a plan of action here? Come closer, and Jehannans would most certainly spot them. Did they have a plan?

Isolde

"Reina!" Before Isolde could react, her ward had been intercepted, knocked out and taken by some unknown person. Isolde's eyes widened with shock, before quickly turning into a determined scowl. Damn it, if only she had been more prepared...faster, or just been a better knight! "Marwood, keep everyone else together and follow!" She shouted quickly, grabbing Kergin's reigns in both hands, dashing off after the fleeing rogue. That narrow passage was not going to be easy for Kergin to traverse, but she had little choice if she wanted to save her friend. She wasn't going to lose Reina. Not now. She wouldn't loose them both on the same day. She refused to let it happen.
