And whew, sorry this took so long to get out, guys! My brain's been seizing up a lot lately.

@Frizan Is the metal age defined in any way? Like is this based upon anything? Or can somebody construct this world, its technology, setting and the behavior of these "red-eyed" constructs in basically anyway they wanted?

In this instance the "metal age" is defined as an invading force. It could be a literal army, or it could even be a metaphorical "invasion", showing the change from a "natural" existence to an automated/industrial one.

Man, it's been so long since I've entered a contest or written anything with a word count over 2K. I'm glad I decided to do this, but it feels like I'm flexing muscles that I haven't moved in ages. Everything hurts, but the pain is soooo goooooood <3

No, I've finished the general concept, worked out where the piece is going and how I'm going to get there. Just need to get in the car and drive. I wanted to keep it to the original 1k limit but it might spill over.

I... am almost at 8k words for this entry and haven't reached the end yet, which will be an open ending because I don't have the time to write out the full story before the deadline. This prompt sparked this tale that just couldn't be told in a few pages.

Well I got 1,500 words in...my first Act. I had already cut one/changed my beginning to save me the workload and keep the story brisk. I had the middle (Possibly merged two parts into one.) and the end to finish, and then hopefully an editing process? Which (at best, considered wanting to get this done) would put it on par with my last stories 3K word count. So yeah...this one might not be completed/posted in time from just how screwed my sleep schedule/time I've had that I wasn't feeling ill and actually wanted to write.

Late to join the official party, but I'm sitting at about 5,700 words while I wait for friends to read & review my final draft. Planning to submit the perfected project late tonight/early tomorrow after one last revision!

Basically, just for those that were passingly interested. Wouldn't mind the critiques, though I'm basically acknowledging I hadn't gotten to the editing stage/unfinished product.
