Hey Im Jordan Surpass Your Limits!

Member Seen 18 days ago

Hello, I come to you on this day September 26th, 2018 at around 6:38 EST at time of writing with a simple message.

I first tried looking for a movies/cinema general thread, and I didn't see one. So I just made one. Before I get too far into the reason I'm making this thread, let me preface it with this: I love(d) dinosaurs, and Chris Pratt is fucking awesome.

Fuck that movie. Jesus.

Okay, now that I got that out of the way! Please, use this thread to discuss everything cinema related.

I'm a simple man, if I see a movie starring Chris Pratt, I avoid.

Actually, Magnificent Seven was fairly inoffensive.

Depends how much screen time he has, but I'd generally avoid.

Sorry to Bother You is the only movie worth seeing this decade.

The commie praising the commie propaganda movie?

Oh look another Prawn/Raddum clone.

Saying that any actor 'owns' is a pretty dumb take, especially a heavily type-casted, cookie cutter comedy action hero guy.

There were many before him and there will be many to follow.

By responding to your accusation of a dumb take with my own accusation with a dumb take?

Dont dish what you cant eat.

Chris Pratt plays a bigger screen version of what Brendan Frasier was doing with the Mummy. With elements of what Nathan Fillion was doing with Firefly/Serenity.

'Kinda cocky, kinda cool, kinda funny but wholesome badass' is not a particularly interesting archetype regardless of how many times you say 'owns'.

You act like Brendan Fraser and Nathan Fillion were the innovators of a concept that predates the both of them.

'Kinda cocky, kinda cool, kinda funny but wholesome badass' is not a particularly interesting archetype regardless of how many times you say 'owns'.

If you think Chris Pratt's entire filmography is Jurassic World and Guardians of the Galaxy instead of a career where he's more often than not played the co-star supporting friend role such as in Her or The Five Year Engagement or Delivery Man, not counting his more dramatic turns in supporting positions in Moneyball and Zero Dark Thirty, then sure the 'cocky, cool, funny wholesome badass' thing might hold water. Except even in Guardians of the Galaxy he's a farcry from badass or cool.

No, my entire point is that brendan frasier and nathan fillion are just examples of a very overused and long standing character trope that was around way before and will be around way after chris pratt.

Ive not seen moneyball but Zero Dark Thrity? It was a dramamtic film sure, but Chris Pratt was in it for about 17 mins and he cracked 2 jokes and held a gun in a brief shooting scene. Hardly a 'dramatic turn'.

Im not even saying he's a crap actor, I'm saying he's nothing new, interesting or special.

I concur.

Saw Fracture on Netflix. It's an hour and a half lateral thinking puzzle held up on decent actors with a weak ass script.

I'll save you trouble, and give you the plot.

A man shot his wife with a gun from point blank range, then proceeded to shoot the windows with the remaining clip, clean the bullets and the gun and move the shells somewhere else and burn his clothes, then a cop (whom he knew the wife was cheating with) came inside because of a hostage call then left after he received the man's confession and arrested him on scene. The mystery that plays out for literally the rest of the movie is...the gun at the scene of the crime wasn't ever fired. And the man never left his house.

So just by reading that paragraph, what's the mystery and what happened to the gun?

And yes, that's basically the entire goddamn twist/plot. The only other thing there is, gaping plot errors.

I also saw the weeb movie My Hero Academia movie, and it was alright. The amount of time wasted on filler seemed highly unnecessary, because while it would be nice for newcomers, there's literally no one on earth that went to that movie (that had a limited release) that didn't know the things they spent time explaining.

@SleepingSilence Started Fracture on Saturday... didn't make it past the 15 minute mark. So I understand you 😂

Edit: counting down the days for Venom. The Eminem track got me hyped.

@Dirty Pretty Lies Saved yourself the time.

My brother tried to get me to watch the Netflix version of Bleach. Because despite wanting to avoid Nexflix Adaption's like the plague. I guess we had nothing better to do.

So he was telling me how 'accurate' the Ichigo character was. And all I saw was an actor hamming it up. Despite making fun of parts, he kept telling me how 'unchanged' parts were. And I was thinking,"Not a single scene has been correct so far."

But he fell asleep, less than halfway through. And he told me, "this was the 2nd time he got to that point and fell asleep."

My question would have been "then why did I just sit through it?" if I wasn't kind. <.<

I haven't watched many movies that I can think of. My only other comments really is how little there actually is coming out. Venom looks like ass. Mary Poppins is going to be ruined. There's sequels to movies I don't care about...

The fact that a likely cheap ass "people are locked in a room and will kill each other" type thriller is probably the most interesting thing coming out this year. <.<

I guess I still have hope that the animated Spider-Man movie won't be ass. *though the two main directors of Monsters Vs Aliens/PussNBoots, and the Godzilla movie, doesn't inspire confidence*
