Basics
Name/Pronunciation: Serene Light (Se-rene Light)
Nicknames/Alias:
Doctor Eggman(Fake Persona)
Professor Light's Kid
Date of Birth/Age: June 17th, 2009(22, if numbers are wrong, I can adjust birth year, since I want her to be 22 in present time)
Place of Birth: Unknown, but Serene believes it may have been England, before her father took her to the states.
Gender: Female
Physical Description
Height: 5 feet, 9 inches
Weight: 120 Pounds Average
Detailed Physical Description:
Blue eyed, Serene's reddish hair parts behind her head in up tuffs, but doesn't extend past her shoulders, with a pair of longer bangs that frame her face in front. Her body is slim, but decently figured, in part due to a drive to stay in shape, but also in part due to one of her Pitfalls, as well as what she first thought was a genetic disorder, but may have been merely her tendency to eat little prior to acquiring her power, or her aforementioned Pitfall. Her body at times can seem a little sickly, pale at times, but generally retains a normal, vaguely salmon pink color hue. Otherwise, she's someone you could see, but generally not give a second look too most of the time.
Her alter ego, the vile Doctor Eggman, is an extremely rotund being, though how much of that is actual body mass, and how much is technology or padding, is unclear. For the most part, he appears to be bald, with his most notable feature being his massive and well kept mustache. While his eyes have never been seen(not yet at least), some suggest they may be black with red irises, a horrifying thought, or really creepy white eyes with green irises. Just look at that brow...His arms and legs are somewhat less thick compared to the rest of his body...but all in all, horrifying.
Typical Attire:
Serene generally wears a reddish environmental, or skin, suit beneath whatever attire she has on, as it was specially designed to monitor her bio-signs, as a result of her acquiring her powers. If her body starts reaching dangerous levels, it will alert her. The headband she wears contains nanites that can, when needed, massage her forehead, should the need arise, but is otherwise just there to keep her hair out of her way, and as a secondary alert system. She usually wears a black jacket over top of her skinsuit, but not zipped or buttoned up, as she generally wears it around her lab(if one could even call
that place one). In terms of day clothes, such as when she has to go out but can't bring her skinsuit, she wears a t-shirt, jeans, and carries a small carrybag, that contains high calorie high density energy bars, incase she runs into trouble, along with her headband.
On the other hand, the "Good" Doctor wears a rich red upper outfit with white segments dividing the arms down their middles, and down the front of his overcoat, followed by yellow raised squares that seemingly serve no purpose. He wears a pair of goggles atop his head, and glasses that hide his eyes. He wears black pants that also seem to be his shoes, which have a gray undersole, and white highlights, while he also wears big white gloves. You'd have no clue this wasn't a real person...
Personality/Attributes
Personality/Attitude
Meek, mildmannered, Serene is a quiet, easily made nervous person, who will, when under pressure, stutter, or fall silent. While part of this is an act, she does suffer from a type of inferiority complex, that has been the result of her upbringing, that makes her feel like she has something to prove, that she's somehow lesser, due to not being the same as the rest of her family. However, when she works up the nerve, or enters her alter ego, she becomes confident, commanding, ruthless even, displaying a strength of character who seeks to complete her goals as best able, through the best means possible. She can become angry, and when so, can become terrifying, but due to her Pitfalls, she may pass out during a rage, especially if she's being dramatic for the sake of her alter ego.
Doctor Eggman, on the other hand, is always cool, collected, calm, and cunning. A brilliant man with a flair for the dramatic, who enjoys seeing others scurry like ants to either work for him, or to stop him. His rages are terrifying, enough to make the ground shake, but just as quickly, he'll recover, and act as if he didn't just threaten to kill someone. He can even be...a tad romantic, as disgusting as it may seem, a charmer. But above all, a brilliant scientist, who can be a bit of a slimeball.
Skills/Talents:
Already smart by most people's standards prior to gaining her power, Serene's skills lay more in the domain of machinery and physical science, rather than say, history like her father, or advanced biology like other members of her family. She can examine a machine, and through intuition, figure out how exactly it works, and then, take it apart and put it back together as needed. She's a skilled mechanic, and can, through her own process, build contraptions from anything she can get her hands on. She also has a bit of skill in computer programming, which was needed to design her alter ego, though thanks to a few fringe contacts, this became readily possible. She's a quick learner, and uses a variety of means to learn. All of these talents are shared with her alter ego, who also is a rather charisma person, so one could say she's a bit of a skilled actor.
Likes:
Serene likes it when things are perfectly controlled. That is to say, she is in complete mastery of her surroundings. The more she can control, the less likely she'll run into trouble. She likes to take things at her own pace. And whether its due to being a young adult, or just her Pitfalls, she enjoys fast food a lot, especially cheeseburgers and pizza. Not too greasy though, she's picky. She likes being by herself, but enjoys what brief human contact she can get. And of course, she loves technology, and learning. She also loves celtic music.
Dislikes:
Mindless chaos, unpredictable noise. She prefers order, due to one of her Pitfalls, and as such, tries to rely on music when out and about.
Fears:
Being defenseless, people misunderstanding her actions, being caught. And above all else...a fear of abandonment and being left alone.
Guiding Life Philosophy(Googled and had issues finding an answer, so have this)(If its not good, I can change it)
Be mindful of one's own health, and seek to leave a lasting, meaningful impact. Listen to your heart. Make the world a better place. Judge others by how they live their lives, respect others.
Background
Origin Story:
Born to a family of gifted minds, from brilliant biologists, to gifted historians like her father, to skilled mathematicans, Serene was expected to be like her other family members. But, when she seemed to be slow to speak, and took longer than average, some worried that she was slow-witted, and thus would be a blacksheep. However, it wasn't that. The reality was that unlike most of her family who were dramatic from early on, she was quiet, and thoughtful. Her intelligence, while not readily apparent like her kin, was more like her father's, more focused into areas that wouldn't readily make front page news right away. Raised by her grandmother as her father was often away on trips, and her mother presumably died when she was an infant, Serene was led to consider life special, and that each person has a right to life, until they do something wrong, and that people should be judged by their actions and merits. Moving to Baltimore, Maryland to undergo her studies, Serene was often made fun of by her classmates, for being the quiet girl who often read in the library, and often failed at physical games, often the last one picked. But this changed as she entered high school, and discovered a love for the mechanical sciences, when an engineer came in to talk about his work. Serene decided to follow her heart, and enrolled at one of the state schools, and began studying mechanical science, mechanical engineering, and computer science. Her desire was to help make a breakthrough in the aforementioned fields, to make her often away father proud.
Of course, that all changed when the powers began emerging. She'd woken up after the ship had flown overhead, and dispersed its power carrying lifeforms. Serene had been at her grandmother's east coast home, three weeks after powers began to arise, when it was discovered she had powers. Well, somewhat. The microrobe she'd bounded with had taken her pre-existing above average genius and pushed it further. It was like an explosion had gone off, as she fell to her knees, feeling a surge of information passing through her brain. Her ability to process information had been jacked up, her intelligence swelling. She screamed, as she lay there in the dirt of the backgarden, a pair of security guards taking her inside, where a doctor who knew of the outside situation, discovered she had gained powers. A decision was made by her grandmother, to take advantage of her grandchild's already theorized autism as a way to cover up her powers, until they knew for sure it was safe to reveal this. It was then decided to study her, and see what her powers were precisely. For Serene, it was odd, she could think faster, process faster, she was in essence, an artificial genius. So it was decided, due to how even with this faster perception there were problems, to take advantage of a cousin's farm, and move her there.
The farm in question is simple enough, a farm house that held a lab already present, so it was just a matter of making adjustments to the complex, to account for her needs. A workshop was added on, and as the rest of Serene's condition was uncovered, adjustments kept being made. A high speed internet connection, state of the art, coupled with enough computing power to make turn of the century scientists blush, Serene was given everything, and yet, she lost everything. Taken away from the comfort of her grandmother's home, away from the lab she had worked in back in Maryland, to now be living on a farm in West Virginia, less than two hours from the city of powered people. Away from the few friends she had. Serene drew into herself, developing an insular existence, and could only watch from the comfort of her safe zone, as DIM arose, as SSI came onto the scene threatening people with powers.
And one night, she snapped. Screaming at her grandmother that there were innocents out there suffering, people who had gained powers, who needed help. And then, a flood of happiness went through her, from the entity now in her body, and she froze. Slowly, she smiled, as she had an idea. "Grandmother, they need a hero, a leader to guide them. Or at least someone to scare the shit out of DIM and SSI. I will give them that hero." And without further ado, she retreated to her lab, working long hours, scouring the web, sending a cousin or two, for she was an only child after all, into nearby libraries to retrieve books for her. And so, the young newly former genius, nigh super-genius, began working, to craft a persona, an entity who she could help people with, from the comfort of her lab, until the time came that she felt courageous enough to enter into the outside world. And so, when exploring various corners, she seized upon a video game character from the 1990s, who had been just like her, a gifted genius, seeking a better world. And she had her alias. It was then she took the time, to craft the lines of code, that would become the backbone of her master plan.
Enter, Doctor Ivo "Eggman" Robotnik. A man who soon appeared on a pirated transmission that could not be tracked, declaring himself the leader that powered and non-powered alike needed. He promised reform, he promised order, and above all else, he promised freedom from the threat of those who saw people with powers, regardless of alignment, a threat. He had replaced that evening news, and left it to the masses to decide what they wanted. And in her lab, safe behind multiple proxies, and her own genius, Serene smiled. "Let's cause some havoc." And with her persona made, Serene set to work once more, confident that her AI program that mimicked her movements and changed her voice to sound different, as the entire transmisison had been prerecorded. Now, it was time to put muscle and steel behind her persona. She needed followers, allies, who would help her achieve her dream...of bringing order to a chaotic world, and to give powered people the freedom they needed. At least, freedom under the world she hoped to create...
Of course, DIM was probably shaken by this new Host appearing, and perhaps SSI saw a threat. But Serene hoped, that to the masses, Eggman would be seen as a beacon of hope. A promise of a better tomorrow. A future where powered and non-powered could live side by side. And all the while, her grandmother watched, wondering just what had been unleashed onto the world...and a world away, her father watched the news, feeling as if he knew who Eggman was, but found himself unsure, as he returned to his work. After all, he didn't have powers, he was an archeologist, who wanted to learn the origin of all these powers...
[h5] Imperium [/h5]
Imperium Code(Eggman): YC5678
Imperium Code(Serene, if she had one): YE7865(Genius but Pitfalls make her about "equal" to human level)
Power Name: Hyper-Intelligence
Power Description:
Grants the user immense cognitive abilities, marking the border between genius and super genius, can perform incredible mental feats far removed from the common masses. In the hands of good, this makes them a great force of change for the greater good. In the hands of evil, they are humanity's worst nightmare, a future Moriarty in the making.
Pitfall 1 Name: Pressure
Pitfall 1 Description:
Actions take two to three times the amount of effort to perform, as if one is under a greater weight of gravity, or as if there's greater pressure keeping them from moving their body. This is due to the source of powers consuming the same amount of energy as the host, forcing them to eat more, lest they suffer from issues. In Serene's case, this forces her to make every movement count, and why she ultimately fears going out, due to how frail she is left.
Pitfall 2 Name: Overload
Pitfall 2 Description:
Greater sensory awareness means that certain actions can, in fact, cause the mind to overload. In Serene's case, too much information can render her helpless, immense pain flooding her system beyond what her power source causes. Can cause blackouts, and in extreme cases, knock her out. Basically its that sensory overload that some folks with autism suffer from(as someone with sensory overload, it sucks, trust me). This is partly why Serene has to have such controlled surroundings, if she can control it, she can predict it, and thus reduce the chances of an overload.
Pitfall 3 Name: Nero's Poison
Pitfall 3 Description:
User experiences sudden migraines, that while not inherently harmful on their own, can cause significant issues. Named after Emperor Nero, who was supposedly poisoned by his mother at young age, and when she died, he lost the cure, and thus was left with bad migraines for the rest of his life. The headband Serene wears is meant to counteract this, by helping soothe her brain. She also tries to be ready if one comes on, so she's not operating heavy machinery.
Pitfall 4(Fake) Name: Rotundness
Pitfall 4 Description:
The people with this may be massively rounded, so much that it may beg the question "How do you walk?" if too extreme. In the case of Doctor Eggman, it seems to be minor, but still notable. Of course, its all part of the disguise. If she makes a robotic copy, the larger body will make it easier to design.
[h6] Other [/h6]
If we're only allowed one real Pitfall, then I can make adjustments as needed, but pressure came to me as a great way to keep Serene balanced despite being a super genius, and well, migraines can be attributed to the greater brain capacity, or something, unsure. Sensory overload is just me looking at the possibility Serene already had minor issues previously, but were made worse due to her power. You have no idea how many times I've been in a store, only to freeze and want to run away because too much information. Its the worst at clothing stores, like good lord all the clothes. Anyways, the whole idea behind this was simple to create a smart character who embodies our idea of the "keyboard warrior" or the internet person who hides themselves behind a fake persona, for one reason or another, and is doing this for noble reasons. The prime version of this character was also one who wanted to leave a positive mark, but lost their way and then spent the past irl year trying to make amends. So in essence, channeling their old hiding behind a persona here. I picked Eggman because his design makes it easy if I were to make a robotic doppleganger, but if this is an issue, I can shift Eggman to being a FC for the alias. I can actually foresee Serene going down the Magneto route in terms of how she's trying to make a world safe for her own kind and for non-powered. If any changes are needed, I'll gladly make them. Feels nice to get back into the groove of starting character creation.
Hope this is good, for clarity, Serene lives in the countryside just outside of NAC. I wasn't sure how many years after powers befell the world that the main story begins, so that's why the age might be funky. I counted back from when the event happened.
