Hello everyone, I'm new to rpguild but not to rp's in general. I don't necessarily love deep lore unless I'm consuming it myself, but the rp's I try to run are heavy story based. Albeit the depth I try to bring depends on what my players are interested in, first and foremost. Then mainly context. When you embark on a quest or journey I run, the depth will hopefully come from the character's I craft and the choices you have in terms of solving a problem. I also really love combat, so if you want to flex god himself at the end of a campaign, then you've come to the right rp.

That being said, I've never finished a campaign in person. So I'm rather inexperienced but make up for it with enthusiasm and the desire to see what you all do. Because that's my fun. Is setting up a scenario and reading how my players solve issues and how their ic relationships change. And hopefully make a few friends along the way.

I'm looking for 3-5 members. I'm not a super fast poster, but I can crank out 3 in a week.

I tend to battlemaps to help set the stage and in important encounters, actual gridded maps that I make in inkarnate. But if I get a party together and no one like them, I can scrap em. These are my ideas. I hope you like em and that we can have fun guys and gals.

First idea: Play as kids escaping the country side as it's ravaged by a dragon who controls the kobolds. And due to the proximity of the nest and the grander conflict with the demon king, which the pcs can't help anyways. The smaller towns in the south are left to fend for themselves during a time of crisis.

Setting would be medieval-renaissance towns in chaos due to the impending doom encroaching upon them. In this cutthroat environment the bonds of community are gone and every family is out for themselves. So you have to lie, cheat, and steal to level up and escape the monsters who get through the town guard's patrols.

Second idea: Escaping a mega dungeon created by a wizard who has lived for so long, that even lich would think he was old. In his old age he has lost the plot and has began lose his grip on time itself. I wouldn't portray him as a villain, but rather, as a researcher who amassed ccenturies of progress to himself then lost control of it. The pcs would be tasked with finding him and seeing if they can reverse the degradation before it hurts the surrounding land. Perhaps a magic meltdown? Something akin to letting out demons that were long lost for centuries in his prison?

Third idea: Basically a quest driven rp. Start in a guild hall and reveal the world as the players explore the town and surrounding area to complete missions. This way I can guide people and not overwhelm them. It would be a calmer rp that is meant to just explore simple to complex problems in a setting with magic, but nothing overbearing.

An example: A goblin problem that has wiped out two villages. Or taming a supernatural creature like an out of control ent that is harming others, but this is due to its delirium rather than malice.

Hi, I haven't really played dnd/tabletop games before, but all three ideas sound really interesting so, if you don't mind me kind of being a noob, I'm interested.

Greetings,

I've been playing D&D for about 3 years now and of the ideas, I'm really unterested in Idea 3 and its example as it feels like it could be a great way for us to get into a groove of our characters and each other as we do small things and possibly learn new things about world.

Also I'm quite the fan of Inkarnate as I always have fun make world maps with it.

Are you looking for PBP dungeons and dragons? Or for a session based game?

@ExpolarI didny think of it that way but i felt similarly. Start small and build from there if thats what my group wanted. I'll probably move forward with 3 because it seems like the responses on discord and here like it(and 2).

Also yay an inkarnate fan. I hope i dont disappoint.

[@Guard] play by post because i felt like itd be easier scheduling wise. With my work i can only play by session on mondays and tuesdays

I think I would be interested, if you'd have me. I'm not what you would call a fast poster, but hopefully that isn't too much of an issue. I just have one question, what materials would you allow to be used for this campaign (as in what books, unearthed arcana, homebrew etc...) ?

I love Idea #3! It would be an excellent way to build up the characters' relationships from the immediate beginning and give them cause to actually want to become a group.

@IdeaUnless there's a lot of people who don't want to see unearthed arcana, I'd say it's all fair game. And yes I'll take ya for sure as long as youre okay with a noob being the gm lol.

@Marki Then I guess we are going with idea 3!

@ImmortalJaskier@Expolar If you guys are still interested I just wanted to let cha know that I'll probably have this up in a week or two. It will be a lot easier to set this up than idea 2 due to the fact that I don't need to make a mage labyrinth lol. but I wanted to tag everyone that seems to want to play to also ask if everyone doesn't mind seeing any material used for character building.

I am indeed still interested and thanks for the current idea of when this may start, but no pressure from here as I'm pretty patient.

What exactly do you mean by material? If you mean sharing what we plan to have our character to have or be, I don't mind as it may be helpful to know a few things about another character as we are building our characters for mechanic or story reason. Spending this time t prepare our characters could be good while you are preparing plans for idea 3. Also, if there is something that someone wants to keep private for story or any other reason, I don't mind as I do enjoy surprises.

So currently my questions at the moment would be what should we be aware about for character creation (mainly the level, as the question of the source we can use has been answered) and what should we expect of the setting of idea 3 could help with character creation?

@Expolar I actually didn't know that character sheets being kept a secret was a thing in dnd. I still ran my past games like a forum rp where we posted sheets. oops. xD

but no i meant stuff like. Do we limit character creation to the base 5e book? Or is everyone fine with unearthed arcana, which if i recall correctly is beta testing stuff essentially.

Well I meant more of the backstory stuff than mechanic things in the character sheet. Again, I do enjoy surprises and reveals of what a character, PCs or NPCs, can do. But know our each other's backstory could be helpful as perhaps it could help probably build some prior connection a two or more characters before or when they started working with the guild.

Officially released 5e books and Unearthed Arcana (beta testing stuff as mentioned) sources are cool with me.

Noob or not, as long as the GM is aiming to make things fun and engaging with the player's content it should be fine XD

Also fine with going with idea 3! Personally I liked that one and idea number 1 as well.

but I wanted to tag everyone that seems to want to play to also ask if everyone doesn't mind seeing any material used for character building.

I'm fine with official content, UA and even homebrew. Even if I don't homebrew I often like at least reskinning some content (AKA keeping it mechanically identical but changing the lore or what the mechanics are referring to in-universe.)

@Bacon is fluffy

I will second these questions, and would like to add a few:
> Will we be using milestones or XP to gain levels?
> If we choose the starting items option rather than rolling for gold, are we allowed to sell items we don't want and buy items?
> While they are from official content, it was brought to my attention that the backgrounds from Guildmaster's Guide to Ravnica are a little controversial because they add spells to your spell list (in other words, they expand the number of spells you can pick from for any given class). Would these be allowed or banned in the group?
> What is the policy regarding stats? Can we pick between point buy and rolling for stats or are we limited to one or the other?

But know our each other's backstory could be helpful as perhaps it could help probably build some prior connection a two or more characters before or when they started working with the guild.

I am absolutely the type who loves to make character connections in the backstory, it can really bring some interesting dynamics to the table.

Hi, im still sort of newish to dnd, i've played one actual game with some friends, and have designed several characters already. I've watched way more than played, but I understand how it works all the same. But anywho, i'd like to take part. Are homebrew characters ok?

I suppose while we wait, does anyone want to have a character build discussion? Like, does anyone already have thoughts on who or what their character may be?

I have a few possibilities in mind. A fey warlock with some manner of gimmicky pact. A simic hybrid with levels in druid and barbarian, just wild all the way. I've also been looking into the possibility of playing a cleric or bard or an alchemist artificer.

Lots of ideas, maybe will be able to organize them better as questions are answered and thoughts are exchanged / discussed.

How about yourself? Any plans or hopes?

One idea i've had in mind of using was a hamon user, or one of the warhammer based characters i've made.

So basically a knife (or I guess dagger in mechanical terms) wielder?
