“Every civilian we’ve passed in the past few days they all ask me questions. Where were you? When the armies of the Ruziyane Empire invaded our border? When General Orlov’s Elite Battle Frame’s crossed the Luminous Crystal Sea? When Admiral Moritz’s drop ships and bombers brought terror to the gray sky filled with snow? Why weren’t you there with the Home Guard at Hedmark? When the King took his own Battle-Frame out with his royal guard to face the foe to create a corridor for the evacuation at Velscinna? Why are you running away? They always shout, sometimes they throw things at us.” The old recording plays as troops bustle around behind the figure of an exhausted military man, of noble birth given the house crest on his uniform currently covered up by a blood stain. His green eyes sunken back as takes long gulps of coffee still with steam curling off it, perhaps the only thing keeping him going as he pushes blonde hair back and tries to wipe a grease stain off his winter camo, to no avail. He turns back to the recording, almost frowning but catches himself, as if he knows he can’t with all the men around him.

“We were doing our duty, for Gyrland, for the king, for hope, for you well if you ever bother watching this.Battle Frames with new technology, specialized weapons, capabilities, and designs all equipment Vinland and our Hollis institute intended for us to build and test. Cadets from our military academies, our best and brightest are now being entrusted with it. Our goal was not to fight and die for our country but to save the work and people we who will save our nation. The brigade took a pounding on the way here...I think I’m the ranking officer right now, as we made a run for the western coast, where our navy is evacuating who they can. Our goal was to take this equipment, our trainers, and our cadets to safety... So they might bring the fight back to our home.” An alarm blared, battle-frames and even retrofitted civilian models being brought online, some still freshly scared, some looking barely operational missing arms or heads. Ground pounder troops running around grabbing launchers, tanks rolling in dug out positions. Machine guns being set up, the officer looks a little sheepish a moment before finishing his coffee, his last meal.

“But I won’t be there... The Ruzi’s forces are closing in and the boats need time to load the cadets and researchers, as well anyone from regular forces who got some real experience. The Homeguard have been ordered back... But someone needs to give them something to fight. We're set up a few miles inland, in Vremmel, a big empty town with no civilians left and just one highway from the mountains to the coast. We plan to gun them down here and fall back to the port where we’ve set traps, if we last, hold them till the ammo runs out then we can see how the fists and shields hold up. After you all cast off through... Maybe we try to break out, link up with the Homeguard or see if the King’s royal guard managed to make it out their own corridor at the capital... Or hell maybe they’ll just give up!” He laughs, happy for maybe the last time, he shakes his head knowing that won’t happen, that the fate of all those here is sealed. “This is Prince Klaus Bernadotte, of the royal special service tactics brigade... The Phantoms, signing off.” He spoke pulling on a helmet, with a ghost-like symbol holding a shield with a sword over it. Heading for one of the nearby frames. The message fizzled out, the last transmission anyone had received from the Phantoms. The Eastern Imperial Hegemony of Ruziyane had announced they had wiped out the unit to the man, showing an image of the Phantom Battleframe with a flag being buried through it.

That was ten years ago, the Homeguard still exists though they cannot hold territory very long and mostly depend on supply drops from the Union of Vinland to keep their forces going. They exist in the outlying villages and towns, if ever seen making due with patching out of date frames and stolen Ruvi equipment. Never in large numbers and far from the population centers. The Ruvi forces have not yet finished off the Homeguard but it is clear that with their more constant defeats something must change soon or hope among the populace will be lost.

Volunteers from other nations, former Gyrland native, or even survivors who managed to evacuate have been given experimental equipment still in testing and have taken up the name of the Phantom Brigade, the former famed special forces unit Battle-frame of Gyrland. The Gyrland Navy will cover your infiltration, your goal to assault and provide relief to the Homeguard. Then to reinforce them as a leaner, more elite force gather equipment, and inspire the people of Gyrland. The specialized Frame-crawler with experimental stealth tech will be used to guide you. Your other goal, as asked by our friends in Vinland, is to go after the research and data on whatever the Ruvi bastards are researching.

Hey there, thank you for your interest in Orbis! The setting is a unique world I’ve made for something I’ve always enjoyed, ground based mech combat. Some folks may not like the idea as much but I’ve always preferred the style of something with mechs fighting down in the dirt. Squaring off against tanks and conventional units. The goal here was to create an earth-like setting that lends itself to telling a story like this without using existing countries and pasts. Obviously some nations are inspired by others and I will use that while writing them but I don’t intend for them to be one to one.

The Frames in this setting are going to be ground base mecha with access to melee weapons, convention firearms, and such. However, characters and their mechs will be able to pitch a specialized piece of gear, a prototype or special equipment for their Battle-Frame. As the Brigade does have less experienced people, it is fielding very advanced equipment which can be upgraded as the RP goes on.

As for the setting you can read more about it down below, as a note I have not defined every single country within the power blocks and that’s because the idea here will give you the freedom to be a volunteer from other nations. I am happy to work with you for a nation anywhere in the setting!. The idea of Avrupa is a sort of Europe split between monarchical nations in the east with democracies and republics to the west. Gyrland is a nation caught between the two and Vinland far across the sea from any of this helping but unwilling to risk its own nation in war.

The Powers of the Silent Struggle

Eastern Imperial Hegemony of Ruziyane: Formed by the Empire of Ruziyane after their conquests into Eastern Ruziyane. Eastern Imperial Hegemony of Ruziyane is a hegemony of nations with a deep seated dislike for more modern “Republics''. After purging several attempts to reform its monarchy and forcefully restoring monarchies in Eastern Avrupa under its Emperor known openly as King of all Kings. While their technology once put them ahead, in recent years it has become clear their sheer capacity in manpower, resources, and combat experience has killed any hope of simply waiting for their collapse or sponsoring smaller nations to war with them. They are a monolith of power directed by the Emperor and his nobles with dreams of shattering Vinland’s ability to catch up with their technological might.

Western Avrupa Federation: Formed in the wake of the Ruziyane’s conquest of the Eastern Avrupan nations, Western Avrupa is famed for being the origin of the Amaranthine Revolts. Where monarchies were forced to concede to the wills of their people and in some cases ousted completely. Formerly these nations were simply trade partners with past grudges and disputes in Western Trade Coalition with the Union of Vinland, whom they shared a common history with, for access to its advanced research and industries. Now? The Federation’s many nations are brothers in arms standing tall against oppression of autocracies and monarchies. Though Union of Vinland is not part of the Federation it is its biggest supplier and backer. The Federation does not have one central armed force but instead has many smaller professional armies, most of them using the similar or the same pattern equipment, though they warred with each other in the past now more than ever, they strive for equality and brotherhood for all. Preferring a more modern and practical approach over the Ruziyane forces using more knightley appearing Battle Frames.

The Kingdom of Gyrland: A large northerly nation sitting below the frozen arctic wastes with an abundance of resources, chiefly Therranite. They only other claimant to the Eastern Imperial Hegemony of Ruziyane control of the Luminous Diamond Sea which houses the largest deposits of Therranite in the world under its depths. With only one land border is along Ruziyane proper and a frozen sea between it and any potential ally. Gyrland, while a member of the Western Trade Coalition, did not join the Western Avrupa Federation and instead opted to seek its own defense. As a neutral nation. Gyrland is one of the leaders in refining Therranite and conducts a heavy amount of research into the mineral in conjunction with the Union of Vinland. The Monarchy in Gyrland is currently in talks about reforming and altering its status though it is mostly civil and without duress on the monarch.

Union of Vinland: Once centuries ago the many disparate colonists from the nations Avrupa, were supported in Vinland by their mother and father lands. Until a devastating plague struck Avrupa wiping out nearly a third of the population in ten years, believed to be from Vinland, they suspended trade for nearly a century until they had recovered from its effects. Returning they found the colonies of Vinland were now one nation, embracing old traditions of democracy and holding elections. Most upsetting were the meritocratic practices as they had no nobility or monarchs, yet here people from historically rivaled nations now stood arm in arm... With weapons pointed at those who had abandoned them. The Union of Vinland was formed originally by many disparate colonies, now however with aid of the natives and the trade dependency upon one another it had become a nation unto itself with enlightened ideas that would travel back to Avrupa, starting the Amaranthine Revolts.

Today Vinland is one of the two great industrial and technological powers in the world. Though it does not have access to the same amount of Therranite Ruziyane does meaning they are more dependent on trade and allies over directly controlled territories.

Avrupa a breakdown of the region

The History of Avrupa and Vinland: Northern Avrupa is a heavily mountainous region, with deep valleys and many distinct peoples. A strong foresting, agriculture, mining, and industry built up over the past years. With rocky sheer coastlines, cold winters, and destructive storms, north western Europa’s ports are few and far between. While the terrain does flatten eastward out it is only towards the Luminous Crystal sea most of which is frozen year around prevent use of that area for shipping. Few nations existing towards the Luminous Crystal sea remain free of the Ruviyane’s Imperial control creating a hard border. With what many considered the more free and industrious Western Avrupa on one side. This is compared to the more regimented and controlled Imperial life, which is still under a modernized feudal sytem. Eastern section of Northern Avrupa is dominated by mines and farms as Ruviyane demands resources from its subservient states.

The southern section Avrupa is warm towards the west and more temperate to the east with access to a large inland sea it finds itself a hot spot of trade. It is from these nations that most of Vinland’s colonists originate. It also this more southernly nations that have found themselves in recent years under prepared for conflict with Ruviyane.

Southern Western Avrupa meanwhile finds itself much more hilly leveling out into rolling plains before transitioning to lovely beaches. Wine, lovestock, textiles, processed trade goods, and luxury goods are commonly produced here as well being a center for ship building in Avrupa. While less these nations are less heavy industry focused and with historically less conflicts than their northern neighbors. These nations were the ones to shut down trade after the arrival of the plague three centuries ago saw them abandon their trade networks and people around the world.

South Eastern Avrupa saw the least gains by Ruviyane thanks to the peoples' aggressive dislike of foreign powers. While this Southeastern section did not join the Federation it is more likely due to the fact that many of these nations wish to war upon each other once Ruviyane and the Federation are distracted, this region has the longest history of violence in Avrupa. With cooler temperatures and more farmland historic border constantly changed and have made the people their contentious with one another over their long history.

While Southern Avrupan nations were ravaged by the plague, Northern Avrupa and Ruviyane's harsher cold environments (And smaller populations) prevented it from spreading as fast and aggressively. When these nations returned to Vinland, which had been thought to ensure the wealth of their nations for centuries to come, the survivors of their colonies had declared independence.

With Vinland being across an ocean and their populations only just recovered from the plague, Southern Avrupa agreed to trade their technology for raw resources which they normally depend on northern nations for. However with this and the arrival of Union Vinnies into Avrupa, word of a free and democratic nation spread like the wind. Seeing nobles ousted or capitulate. In some cases violent outright revolts.

Ruviyane is a truly massive nation wrapping across three continents and possessing the world's largest army, navy, and now Battle-Frame force. Expanding its Hegemony wherever it can, the nation found itself on the brink of destruction during the Amaranthine Revolts. After most of the Emperor’s children and grandchildren were sealed inside the summer palace and burned to death by revolutionaries. The Emperor cracked down with an iron fist as nobles who were for some moderate reformed abandoned the revolution. Fining they had no taste for the more extreme measures the revolts ended roughly fifty years after contact with Vinland was made.

During this time Gyrland connected only to Avrupa though Ruviyane remained one of the only surviving monarchies not to lose great power. Thanks in part to the monarchy being more reasonable and the nation having little history of great abuse of power by its nobles and monarchs. Gyrland existing away from the wars and conflicts of Avrupa had focused on defense against Ruziyane has always had prestigious military academies, advanced industry, and mandatory military service.

Ruziyane sought its lost glory having cracked down largely restored order through lack of education and peasant labor. Thanks to this their nation's industry through brute force was brought into the modern world eighty years ago. Thirty years ago Ruviyane rolled out the first crude battleframes. This coupled with Ruviyane discovering the secrets within Therranite to power them, would see the powerful nation grow into a dominant power on this side of the planet. Unleashing weapons of war well beyond their neighbors ability to fight back against alone. Nation after nation fell for five years, as Vinland and its trade partners rushed to learn the technology, accepting anyone fleeing Ruviyane destruction.

Only after the Union of Vinland producing its own Battle-frames and supplying the tech across Avrupa along with Therranite reactors, was the Imperial army halted. Fifteen years of uneasy peace reigned as the Western Avrupa Federation began its military build up, forging allies and technological advances. Gyrland became one of the number one suppliers of Therranite to Vinland and those outside of Avrupa, where the resource is much rarer. With no land border to its western friends and most of its sea access blocked by ice, if it joined the Federation it would be the first target of any operation. Joining Ruviyane was out of the question so it remained trapped with only Vinland looking out for the nation... A thousand miles away.

Ten years ago Ruviyane invaded and took Gyrland by force claiming the war was over Gyrlander’s claiming access to the Luminous Crystal Sea and that monarchy was in danger of falling to rebel factions sponsored by the Union of Vinland. The royal family is still missing and until a relative can be found a Ruvi “Governor” has been installed to rule the nation and oversee it. Resistance of the military known as the Homeguard has been fierce but limited. Seeing success in liberating provinces... Before brutal and overwhelming retaliation strikes occur. Gyrland’s people are losing hope and if nothing is done, will accept their fate.

Pilot Relevant information

The Phantom Brigade

The Brigade: The Phantom Brigade is an all volunteer unit of individuals who have been tasked with bringing an end to the occupation. The Union of Vinland has given them an experimental land crawler outfitted to support and carry their Frames. Making use of advanced stealth systems the crawler is able to move through territory without being heavily tracked. Its main benefit is its advanced repair and refit bay which allows for the construction of equipment and repair of frames on the move. Though it lacks weapons as such it depends on the Frames on board to defend it and must stay back from any fighting. The Brigade will also be able to communicate back to Vinland to work with their spies and the Homeguard to find the best ways to counter the Ruvi forces. The Crawler is staffed by Gyrlander’s for the most part though its crew does hail from all corners of the globe. While its goal is to end Ruviyane’s invasion and occupation, some see this as prelude to a true war between the Federation and Ruviyane where both sides test each other's might.

The Brigade also has access to specialized equipment allowing for them to process, mine, and if need be scrap enemy Frames for resources. Allowing the Brigade to stay mobile and autonomous though the crawler is vulnerable while it gathers these materials.

Lastly the Brigade’s main goal is to bring hope to the people as such members must maintain themselves above board and avoid any public displays that could turn opinion of the populace or supporting nations against the cause.

Battle-Frame Appearance:

Description of Frame and capabilities: A well armored but under gunned Battle-frame usually given to inexperienced pilots, the Lancer's main function is as it names implies it's lance. Functioning as miniature pile bunker it should not be taken lightly as a well played attack from one can destroy a cockpit. The lances tip is usually explosive and can be replaced after a use. It's speed and armor are good though at range it mostly depends upon a small gatling weapon along it's back. Meant more to deal with missiles, light vehicles, aircraft, and infantry than battle against Frame it's impressive fire rate makes it useful for suppression and multiple lancers can focus fire becoming a true threat.

Battle-Frame Appearance:

Description of Frame and capabilities: The first mass produced suit Ruviyane ever produced and one of the more prolific, while it's bulk and weight deny it the speed of more modern counterpart it's unyielding armor and weight prevent it from being brought down by most common conventional weapons. For the most part these Frames have been phased out, often used now by soldiers from other hegemony nations whose nation can not yet meet the amount of Frames demanded by the Ruziyane's constantly expanding military build up. It's slow movements means while it's powerful guns let it engage it has trouble staying on target with faster Frames. It struggles in melee lacking any melee weapon though it's powerful missiles and rifle make it a serious threat at a distance.

Battle-Frame Appearance:

Description of Frame and capabilities: A close quarters capable Battle-frame, with a devastating shotgun and axe combination. It carries a submachine as a reserve weapon alongside it's tube missile launcher. A modern suit and often found in the hands of Ruvi pilots with some experience. While durable armor does not slow it's considerable swing and speed of movement though does hamper it's ability to redeploy quickly.

Battle-Frame Appearance:

Description of Frame and capabilities: Capable of laying down a truly enormous amount of firepower with it's machine gun, this Battle-frame is specialize with comms and targeting data to allow it to direct allied fire. Usually found in the hands of NCO veterans it can turn a single squad of frames into a lethal weapon capable of defeating a superior foe. It's emergency handcannon is able to knock over most Frames though with only two concussive shots it is rarely lethal and more focused on allowing the Frame to gain the range to use it's massive machinegun.

Battle-Frame Appearance:

Description of Frame and capabilities: These light Battle-frames stunned the world when they were able to successfully cross the Luminous crystal sea moving along ice and surviving long periods of massive temperatures below zero as well as being light enough and fast enough to move over thinner ice. While only equipped with a rifle and combat knife the able to survive being fully immersed in water and function in artic conditions for long periods of time with the pilot in comfort. Their aquatic nature allows them to be hidden and turned off making them prime ambush weapons. They can also deploy deep penetrating radar to track Frames from their hidden locations. Making them a true terror on both land and sea.

Battle-Frame Appearance:

Description of Frame and capabilities: Medium Battle-frames a world first of Battle-frames deployed from the sky. Their strike tactics took key bases and positions ahead of the arrive of main forces. Considered a special forces Battle-frame these infamous machines carry a rifle, two pistols, machete, and throwable grenades. While not particularly fast, well armored, or armed compared to others. The fact a squad can be placed anywhere it is needed has made them a serious threat. They have been known to reinforce the legs for landing on top of enemy BattleFrame using their wrecked hulls for cover as they push their assault. Named for their fondness for night raid operations.

The Watchman

Battle-Frame Appearance:

Description of Frame and capabilities: A long distance support frame, with access to a incredibly specialized rifle and high tech optics. It is said a Watchman's optics cost more than Ironguard. While only equipped with a combat knife and sniper rifle, the Watchman true power lies in it's optics and it's advanced jamming system. Making it hard to spot with most optics and harder to fight against as it's specialized rounds designed to cause different kinds of damage depending on where it targets. As such Watchman class Frame's should be countered or taken out in advance of an operation. Even a single one can slow down or halt a sizeable Frame based battleforce.

Widow Maker

Walker-Tank Appearance:

Description of Tank and capabilities: These crawling tanks are commonly issued to support units able to skitter along firing a powerful cannon in support. While easy to destroy with most frame based weapons they are able to bring them down with concentrated fire power. Often deployed in large numbers when Frames are limited or in conjunction with Frames. Often crewed by conscripts, it is said the tank is named for the fact that those in it are either making widows of oppressed or their owned loved ones when deployed against Frames. Considerably cost effective at fighting Frames when an entire platoon can be equipped and trained to operate them in less time than squad of Frame pilots are trained.

Governor Shaffen Von Grolman

Appearance:

Information known: Governor Shaffen Von Grolman, currently in charge of administration and organization of Gyrland to prepare it for becoming part of the hegemony. Not only loyal to the Emperor and Ruviyane but a traitor to his people in Gyrland as he was born their but returned to his families ancestral home in Ruviyane to serve in the military and make a name for himself. One of the few people to have crawled up through the infighting of the noble houses a snake with no morals or qualms he is willing to kill thousands to maintain his position, even more to advance it.

Colonel Mira Khvostov

Appearance:

Information known: Colonel Mira Khvostov, current head of Imperial Pilot training and recruitment. Born into the Empire and rising through the ranks. Mira is perhaps believes the heaviest in the Empire's goals because of she has risen in the ranks, while normally not meriocratic as nobility usually holds officer positions. Her skills as a pilot and battlefield leader during the invasion made her invaluable as such her main goal now is to win hearts and minds. To show the Empire isn't as bad as those Vinland backwaters would make them out to be.

General Kirill Orlov

Appearance:

Information known: General Kirill Orlov, the current head of military occupation, he personally led the Icebreakers across the Luminous Crystal Sea. Pushing inland he had planned to capture the capital before any units could reinforce it... He did not expect the Royal Guard to fight, figuring a force of Frame's and soldiers with ceremonial duties would not risk damage to those symbols of pride. General Orlov's own Frame was impacted by defenders artillery as his forces were set upon by ambushing Royal guard who has anticipated their arrival. While grievously wounded it would also cost his forces the chance to seize the city and instead it turned into a long siege. He is partically hateful towards Gyrland's veterans and has spent years trying to crush the spirit of the Homeguard and the people supporting them.

Homeguard Equipment

Centaur

Walker-Tank Appearance:

Description of Tank and capabilities: The Centaur is the successor to the older and outdated Homeguard crawler tanks, while it is lighter than many comparable models. It features a unique design allowing to drive on tracks or stand to move up more difficult vertical terrain, a common problem in Avrupa with it's sheer mountains. An original Gyrlander design it's clever abilities and support use has seen it used in Vinland and the Federation as a simple and effective crawler tank. While it's weapons won't are not made to fight Frame's alone they can certainly annoy and damage one.

Gryphon

Battle-Frame Appearance:

Description of Frame and capabilities: The Gryphon is the most common Frame produced for the Homeguard, built out of older frames this machine is the grunt of the Homeguard Frames, with a death tally to match. Defensive minded these Frames use a heavy shield in addition to medium armor, along with a handheld SMG meant for surprising the target. They carry a backup knife as well, generally Gryphon's are in the hands of common units. These Frames will also generally make use of captured weapons as their well rounded status means they can make use of a various piece Ruvi gear.

Basilisk

Battle-Frame Appearance:

Description of Frame and capabilities: From the poisonous beast that appears in legends of Gyrland's many legends. The Basilisk makes use of advanced Federation spotting equipment, in conjunction with a Vinland produced heavy rifle. Allowing it to take lighter mechs with a single shot, it's advanced spotting system and lightness allowing it to reposition and shoot faster than many of it's counter sniper opponents. The Basilisk is is usually found among squads assigned to special missions or more veteran Homeguard commanders.

Werewolf

Battle-Frame Appearance:

Description of Frame and capabilities: The Werewolf is the last design produced in Gyrland, this Frame touts an impressive assault shotgun. A long range auto-cannon on one shoulder and a four tube missile seeking launcher on the other. The Werewolf is usually sent by the Homeguard as a last resort, with it's most veteran pilots onboard. However the dwindling number of Werewolves means every pilot and Frame lost reduces the number.

Ranger

Battle-Frame Appearance:

Description of Frame and capabilities: Vinland's newest gift to the Homeguard, these brand new machines sport the first energy based rifles backing it with a conventional cannon. Built for long operations without resupply, the new ammo less weapon has useful but cannot be used in more dangerous situations as the risk of Ruviyane reverse engineering the technology is to great.

Personality: Rimau has two modes of being: what her adopted country wants her to be like, and what she's actually like. Gyrland needs her to present herself as a loyal and devoted soldier, dedicated to the cause and unwavering in her support. She is upbeat in the face of danger but not blase about it, treating combat as a serious but righteous effort.

While there is an element of truth to this facade it covers up much of the real Rimau. She's spent her entire adult life manipulating people to get them to support one military or another, and while she'd never even think that she's on the wrong side she can't help but feel guilty. She knows for a fact that people from her home country have come to fight and die, feeling the weight of their fates on her shoulders (rightly or wrongly). The past ten years have been filled with doubt for her, and it's unlikely that she'll ever shake her worries.

In the meantime, she just keeps doing her job.

Background: Rimau was born in Temasek, a nation stretched across tropical islands about far as possible from Gyrland. Once a disparate set of feuding tribes ruled by distant foreigners, Temasek had quickly modernized after gaining its independence, becoming a leader in technological research and development. By the year of her birth Rimau's hometown, the capital city Ancar, was renowned for its information industry. Her father worked in cybersecurity, her mother headed systems design at a major software firm, so it was of little surprise that Rimau grew up with technology.

Like many teens Rimau grew up with social media, but she had a knack for online popularity that was abnormal among her peers. While not particularly interested in becoming any sort of media personality or influencer she did think it prudent to try and turn her talent into a career. Advertising seemed a natural fit, and Rimau went to university to study digital marketing.

This was not a field she particularly enjoyed but it did offer decent pay. Before she could apply to any firm however the military got to her first, calling her up for the two years of service required of every young adult. Like every other cadet she was the basics of military service but when it came time for her to specialize she was pulled in two very different directions.

The Armed Forces knew about her studies and experience with marketing and thus wanted her to work with the recruiters, churning out videos and posts trying to entice people to sign up after their mandatory service. She was good at the work to be sure, but found it soulless and ultimately kind of ugly. She was drawn to the Battle Frames, the walking weapons that were changing the way wars were fought.

Rarely does the military do what its individual cogs wish for, but Rimau did so well in the tests that it would have been wasteful to keep her away from a Frame. Some kind officer made the decision to split the difference for her: she would create recruitment-driving puff pieces for the army, but as part of the Battle Frame Corps. Her job was to present as being a patriotic citizen who was just so glad to serve her country that she couldn't help but share her adventures with the world.

And that was just what she did. Rimau recorded herself and her squad mates at the range and during maneuvers, the footage carefully poured over by a team of PR people to squeeze the most value possible out of it. During her tenure reenlistment jumped by a little over forty percent, and while it couldn't all be attributed to her work she had undeniably played a major part in it.

Rimau was the face of Temasek's Battle Frames, and by her fourth year she was sick of it. For all the nation's fear-mongering and hoard-building she had yet to see combat against any force more powerful than jungle-dwelling rebels and pirates on captured tankers. After so much time playing pretend Rimau wanted to actually fight for a cause.

She had just resigned from the Corps to go search for civilian work when the invasion happened, and she jumped at her chance. Rimau made the trip to Gyrland and presented herself to the rapidly-disintegrating Homeguard, joining the first wave of foreign volunteers.

To her dismay, the Homeguard put her to work doing the same thing she did back home. In between sorties and probing actions against the Ruzis Rimau made calls for material support from Temasek, serving as a pretty face through which Gyrland could seek assistance.

The nagging doubts over the validity of her service came to a head when she was honored for bravery under fire. Five years into her time with Homeguard a force of requisitioned Frames supported by infantry and light vehicles attempted to push into one of the outer territories controlled by Ruziyane. Rimau was part of the supporting forces, and when the attack began to stall she was pulled up to assist.

The breakthrough attempt failed and what began as an ordered retreat threatened to disintegrate into a route. A unit of anti-armor infantry had overstretched itself, shunted out of position so that they were at risk of being totally surrounded. Rimau had the only heavy ordnance left in the area and thus swung into action, attracting enemy attention and laying down covering fire to give the Guards time to escape.

She sustained shrapnel injuries to her chest and neck as well as minor burns to her torso and was recognized for her gallant efforts with not only a Purple Heart but the extremely prestigious King's Star. Such a high honor was bittersweet due to there being no king to bestow it upon her, but she also couldn't shake the feeling that she wouldn't have been given it if she wasn't expected to parade it on camera.

Rimau considered leaving but stayed in hopes of eventually living up to the medal she had been given. She has failed to do so in the five years since.

Other things:

• In addition to her role as Frame pilot and walking propaganda poster Rimau is sometimes called into service as infantry when a patrol needs to be rounded out or a unit is short on manpower in the aftermath of a raid. She actually enjoys ground-pounding because it feels more real to her than her piloting career at this point.

Membership: Suspicious of Avrupa and Ruziyane but closely allied to Vinland.

Position in the world: The Republic of Temasek lies far to the west of Avrupa, a small nation-state stretched across an archipelago.

Recent history: Temasek was once split between the nations of Avrupa, colonized by outsiders so that distant monarchies could get rich off the land's natural resources. After centuries of subjugation and the tribes and clans that lived on the island rose up against their Avrupan masters in a coordinated rebellion, one that was in part funded and equipped by Vinland. This sparked a strong relationship between the two countries, one that held together even as Vinland began to treat Avrupa with less hostility.

Its alliance with Vinland as well its relatively abundant supply of Therranite led to Temasek taking quite well to Battle Frames. The country is, while densely populated considering its small size, still drastically outnumbered by the Hegemony or any other major power that might wish to invade so technological prowess is a key part of its military strategy. Temasek invested heavily in Battle Frame and Therranite research, working with Vinland to back up its conscription-based army with powerful equipment.

In recent years Temasek has been particularly paranoid about the possibility of invasion. While it had no real connections with the now-largely defunct Gyrland, its brazen occupation has sent the republic's leaders into a frenzy. Some sectors have been converted from low-priority production of luxury items into wartime industry, factories churning out armor and ammunition to be stashed away until needed by military or paramilitary forces. The R&D community has particularly focused on further refining Therranite. Advances have been made in weaponizing the material, and early efforts to make Frames more fuel-efficient show promise.

Cool and level headed, yet confident and daring, Ingram is a the personification of a career soldier. Possessing a general dry wit and humor, Ingram is fairly friendly if a bit sarcastic, though not the most outspoken. Gruff and tough, Ingram doesn't spare much time for fools, and can generally be relied on to be professional and have his head in the game while on the job. Though generally a calm and kind giant, Ingram isn't without a temper, and when properly riled up can be quite intimidating. Ingram has a soft spot for children and those inversely affected by the war.


Background:
Ingram hails from the Eastern Avrupan monarchy of Rassvet, one of the original conquests by the Empire of Ruziyane when they took control of Eastern Avrupa. The youngest of four, Ingram was the only one of his siblings that survived the end of the Ruziyane invasion some 25 years ago. Though there were plenty of growing pains, Rassvet was quickly integrated into the Ruziyanian Hegemony shortly after its conquest. As a part of its obligations to prove its 'loyalty' to the greater Imperium, Rassvet, like many of the Avrupan conquests began to conscript its men and women into the Imperial Army, entire villages worth of able bodied men and women taken to Imperial training centers to be distributed across its many active army units to further the Empire's growing war machine.

As one such conscript, Ingram joined the Imperial Army at the age of 18, and after a period of training and indoctrination was integrated into the 281st Imperial Mechanized Regiment, as infantry support for their fledgling Battle-frame corps. Over the next 7 years, Ingram participated in more engagements than he can remember, fighting for the empire as they claimed territory after territory, first as conquerors, then as occupiers putting down insurrection after insurrection as they cropped up. As a part of an Imperial battle-frame unit, Ingram also participated in raids and border skirmishes against small nations along the border of the Empire, as well as the neighboring kingdom of Gyrland. It was during one of these border skirmishes that the course of Ingram's life would change drastically.

On one fateful skirmish against the forces of Gyrland, the armored vehicle Ingram crewed was destroyed and he was tossed from the wreckage. After dragging himself through a stretch of frozen woods, Ingram collapsed from his injuries, where he was found and subsequently captured by a small group of Gyrland irregular militia, armed fighters that fought on behalf of their homeland, but were not organized along with regular army units. His wounds were treated and he was thoroughly interrogated for information, where it came to be known that as a conscript, Ingram didn't know a whole lot about the higher level movements of the Imperial army. Ingram would spend the next several months as a prisoner of the militia, advising them on Imperial tactics and strategy, at least at a small unit level. His knowledge of Imperial tactics however proved valuable, at least for the purposes of countering the current border conflict between the two nations.

In his short time with the Gyrland irregulars, Ingram came to question his already shaky loyalties towards the Empire, and subsequently after the Imperial army pulled back without any attempt to trade or retrieve prisoners, Ingram defected from the Imperial military and joined his Gyrland captors. For his assistance in the conflict, Ingram was taken in by Gyrland, and given a partial pardon for his crimes. His former captors became his comrades in arms, and Ingram would serve alongside them in defensive skirmishes against Imperial aggression.

During his time with the Gyrland Irregulars, Ingram grew close to one- a logistics officer named Sara Lin, and the two would marry soon after. Not long after, the two welcomed a daughter into the world, Amanda Lin-Feng. Stepping back from active duty, the family would settle into the supply train of the Gyrland Irregulars, Ingram and Sara acting as less combative- but intrinsically important second line logistics and support staff as they raised their daughter in the relative safety of the back line. The two planned to serve the Irregulars for a few more years until they had enough money to retire to a small plot of land in Gyrland.

A year later, Ruziyane invaded Gyrland.

Pitched fighting ruined any and all of Ingram and Sara's plans to retire, as the full might of the Empire came to bear on the frozen nation of Gyrland. Over the course of this conflict, the Gyrland Irregulars would come into regular contact with the Imperial army, and despite its best efforts would crack and buckle beneath the sheer weight of overwhelming enemy forces. The Irregulars were reduced to practically nothing, worn down underneath a deluge of enemy fire until they were no longer fighting effective. A particularly vicious attack on the Irregular's supply lines would grievously wound Ingram, and result in the death of his wife.

Hurt and angry, Ingram was approached by representatives of the Phantom Brigade- a legendary special operations unit seeking to replenish its forces to take the fight to the Empire. Ingram accepted without hesitation and was sent to Vinland to receive expedited battle-frame training. In part due to his familiarity with infantry and mechanized tactics, Ingram took to training well, and was among those deployed back to Gyrland to liberate it, alongside a host of others like him. Armed with experimental weapons and a bone to pick, Ingram marches against the Empire with a cold fury fitting of a Gyrlander.
Extra:
Amanda 'Cub' Feng - Ingram's 12 year old daughter, currently stationed on board the Phantom Brigade Crawler. Despite having spent most of her childhood ducking bombs and marching across destroyed battlefields, Amanda remains an ever bright and upbeat child. Relatively independent, and endlessly curious, Amanda can be seen wandering around the Crawler near constantly, at least when she isn't assisting the Phantom Brigade's supply officer. Despite her age, Amanda is surprisingly good with mathematics and statistics, making her an asset for the logistics corps.

Description:
A heavy duty battle frame designed for drawn out conflict, often times away from regular supply, the Ogre is extremely durable and surprisingly mobile given its size and armor, though its top speed is lacking compared to lighter models. Designed to be the spearhead of an advance, the Ogre is capable of engaging at medium ranges, though is most effective in close quarters, where its bulk and melee weapon systems can be brought to bear. A high output Therranite reactor provides a high enough power to weight ratio to grant it considerable agility in close quarters, and its heavy armor atop a reinforced skeleton allows it to handle considerable amounts of damage before needing to fall back for repairs. Maintenance for this machine is relatively easy, and its heavy suspension allows extra armor to more or less be bolted on as necessary.

While rugged and reliable, the Ogre has difficulty keeping track of targets outside medium ranges without assistance, and lacks significant indirect or precision fire capabilities. While a danger to infantry due to its nature as a battle-frame, the Ogre also carries minimal anti-infantry and point defense weapon systems.

Primary Systems:

• 'Beserker' Anti-Mech Close Combat Weapon System - The Beserker Anti-Mech system is a melee weapons platform reminiscent of a spiked kanabo or maul. While capable of being used in a single hand, an extending handle allows it to be used in two hands, granting it improved reach and mobility. A heavy and devastating weapon, a single well aimed hit to the cockpit from this glorified club is often capable of outright destroying a battle frame, or at the very least incapacitating the pilot inside from the blunt force impact. The mass of the weapon makes it equally capable of damaging enemy weapons and communication systems, or crippling it's mobility with a leg or arm hit. Simple, yet effective, so long as the user can get into range. When not in use, the weapon is stored in a sheath attached to the shield.

Secondary Systems:

• V90c 30mm Short Barrelled Autocannon - A general purpose 'carbine' styled compact autocannon in use by the Gyrland Homeguard, the V90c fires 30mm armor piercing incendiary shells from a 100 round box magazine. The V90 has a semi-automatic, 2-round burst, and fully automatic fire modes, and has a fire rate of 600 RPM. Up to 4 additional magazines are stored in compartments in the Ogre's legs. The V90c is effective at most engagement ranges, though its compact and lightweight nature reduces the accuracy of automatic fire at range. The carbine is stored in a folded state behind the back.
• Composite Combat Shield - A composite shield regularly used by Homeguard forces. It provides directional defense from ballistic weapons, and can absorb a decent amount of concentrated weapons fire. Mounted on an independent arm attached to the forearm of the Ogre, and has presets allowing a user to shift or reorient the position of the shield on the arm.
• Battle-Frame Combat Knife - An emergency close quarter weapon. Does exactly what one would expect a battle-frame sized knife to do. Can be mounted on the autocannon to act as a bayonet.
• Countermeasure System - a standard Countermeasure system not out of place on traditional armored vehicles. Carries chaff and smokescreen launchers to provide soft cover and light protection from optical sensors and sensor locks.
• 'Firecracker' Infantry Supression Grenades - Suitable for use against lightly armored vehicles, infantry and lightly armored battle-frames, the Firecracker resembles an infantry hand grenade. After activation from a timed fuse, the grenade releases a payload of miniature explosives and shrapnel over a wide area. While it does minimal damage to medium and heavy battle-frames, the concussive force of the grenades can interfere with sensors and sensitive equipment.
• Detachable 'Liquid-Fix' Tanks - A pair of detachable tanks mounted to the back of the Ogre are filled with 'Liquid-Fix' Therranite compounds. Interacting with the Ogre's Cobblestone Heavy Plating, a set of dispersal networks lining the underside of the Ogre's armor allow it to rapidly fix cracked and damaged armor components.

Prototype System:

• XBF-7 'Linebacker' Assault Booster - Even while using its thrusters to 'skate' across the ground, the Ogre and other heavy battle-frames can often find their land speed to be lacking. To assist in that, the Ogre has a specially modified high-output booster, granting it short, but sudden bursts of speed in combat, or enhanced leaps. The booster is too taxing on the therranite reactor and the battle-frame's structer itself to be used as a means of consistent transportation, and has a limiter in place to prevent damage to the system. The Linebacker Booster in its current state allows a few short pulses for quick repositioning or tackling maneuvers, or a limited burn for an extended charge.

Detailed Appearance

The first impression most people have upon first looking at Klara is of a petite, delicate girl with a doll-like beauty. Such impression is only made stronger by her long, platinum-blonde hair, the particular hairstyle she mostly always use and most importantly, her usual choice of clothes, often preferring a gothic-Lolita style, going as far as asking for a custom uniform to be made to her liking. Despite her frail and delicate appearance, Klara had formal military training by the empire of Ruvyiane, meaning that despite the size and weight disadvantage, she can still hold her own in a combat situation by using her stamina and agility.

Apart from her appearance, the other thing that seems to immediately draw attention on her appearance are the cybernetic arms she has, one black and one red. A quick look is enough to tell that these seem to be very technologically advanced, despite their appearance. The fact that their design make no effort to make them similar to human limbs seem to be intentional, as it's evident by the fact that both arms are not only painted but decorated with patterns on the surface, indicating that the reason for their design might be other than just purely cosmetic...

While it does blend quite well with Klara's usual style of clothes, the black collar she wears on her neck is a actually a device that is able to immediately incapacitate her via electric shock. Only the captain of the Phantom Brigade can activate it.

Personality

At first glance, Klara is not much different from other members of the high-nobility of the Ruviyane empire. Polite, intelligent, proud and delicate. Thanks to her good upbringing, Klara was taught everything she needed to be a perfect lady, despite her mischievous and somewhat whimsical personality. Her impeccable manners and dignified air, despite being rather conceited, only make her 'porcelain doll' charm even more apparent.

A deeper look at her personality, past the initial impressions quickly reveal that Klara might be more dangerous than her appearance or her behavior might show. Very logical, cunning and calculating, Klara shows little to no remorse in manipulating others to attain her goals, as long as the benefits outweighs the consequences for her actions. Saving those she consider being very close allies, she also doesn't seem to care at all about others, having no problems in saying exactly what she thinks to other people or even let them know she doesn't care about them.

It is only in the battlefield where one can have a real grasp of how dangerous Klara really is. Cruel, sadistic, heartless, bloodthirsty and terrifyingly ruthless, Klara goes beyond just showing a 'cold efficiency' on the battlefield. Where many soldiers would simply perform their duties, Klara seems to enjoy the carnage on the battlefield, the chaos and the violence. Her extreme brutality on the battlefield and the modified Lancer frame she used when she was fighting for the Ruviyane empire, stripped of most of it's heavy armor and armed with a heat lance, gave her the nickname 'Sanngridr', the name of a mythological Valkyrie, roughly translating to 'very violent, very cruel'.

Despite having such a terrifying personality, Klara shows herself to be surprisingly approachable, always receiving those who wish to talk to her with a polite, dignified smile. To those she is close with, Klara often is more friendly and amicable instead of simply polite, showing an unexpected outgoing and rather cheerful side. Her twisted sense of morals and lack of respect towards human lives often show themselves a bit more frequently, be in her words or actions, to those she is close with, since she doesn't seem to be as concerned as she normally is with hiding her true self.

Bio

Despite being born into a family famous for it's extensive military history, Klara wasn't originally raised neither to be a soldier nor a pilot, instead being raised to be a perfect noble, being taught everything she needed to thrive in Ruviyane's society by the best tutors. In the beginning, her sharp, cunning mind and how easily she could manipulate others made her father immediately think she had all the right talents to thrive in role he had chosen for her. Due to that and the fact that Klara was the youngest daughter, not having a claim to the title of family head like her elder brother and the only woman of the family after her mother died a few years after her birth she had little choice in the role she would perform in the family. After all, the family needed a woman to marry into other powerful families and forge connections to other families to further expand their influence.

Surprisingly enough, as Klara grew, she began showing an increased interest towards a military career, particularly towards the huge battle-frames the knights piloted. Both the tales of her father's feats on the battlefield and the few times she was invited to watch her older brother in the training battle-frame slowly made her drift away from the role her parents had set for her, until her interest was solely focused on a possible military career as a pilot. It was only after a considerable effort and insistence from her part that her parents gave in and allowed her to enroll into the military academy, under the condition that she should have satisfactory results or go continue focusing her teaching on the ways of the high-nobility, economy and politics. At first, neither her family nor the instructors believed she would be able to do anything other than being an officer on the intelligence department, which required only intellect instead of physical prowess. After all, there was no way a delicate noble lady like Klara was fit for the military.

In the first few months of military academy, Klara was able to surprise everyone with how well she was able to perform under pressure and deal with the harsh training. Despite her small body, she was fast and agile on her feet and most importantly, had an unusually sharp and quick mind, even when under pressure. As the first sparring sessions in battle-frame simulator began, all the remaining doubts regarding Klara were immediately cleared, both by her family and the instructors. Whenever Klara was in a combat situation, even if it was a simulated one, she turned into a completely different person. The unbelievable ferocity, efficiency and ruthlessness she displayed, even on trainings was enough to quickly overwhelm and knock down all the other cadets and give even a few of the instructors a hard time, despite her preference towards using melee weapons.

Thanks to her performance, Klara graduated from the Military Academy quite early, with only 17 years, being assigned into the same armored division her older brother and father were. Even as a beginner pilot, her ferocity on the battlefield quickly made her known as a very promising talent. Performing better than some experienced pilots despite using only a stock Lancer frame, Klara's contribution only grew as the battles continued, as it did her infamy due to her cruel fighting style and the seeming excitement she felt when in combat. The blood curdling giggles, laughter and humming that could be heard from the radio as she mercilessly pierced enemy battle-frames with her Lancer and broke their formation, despite being unnerving, was enough to boost the morale of ally pilots and soldiers.

Unfortunately, even for such a naturally talented pilot such as Klara, there was only so much she was able to do with a stock Lancer frame. Especially given the fact that her unique fighting style didn't really match the frame. In one of the combats, the poor match of her frame with her combat style finally caused an incident when she was unable to dodge out of the way from an explosive shell from an enemy long-range battle-frame, which exploded just before piercing her frame. The pressure from the explosion was enough to immediately send her unconscious, even before she noticed that shrapnel fragments from her own battle-frame's armor cut both of her arms. Fortunately, she was quickly rescued by her allies and immediately sent to a hospital. Due to the strong shock of the explosion, Klara would end up waking up only a few weeks later, already having her arms replaced by highly advanced, custom made cybernetic arms, provided both by the army and her family.

Even though Klara didn't receive any psychological trauma for seeing her own arms being torn to shreds, due to being unconscious, the rehabilitation still took a decent time, including getting used to her new arms. At first, when Klara stated her intention to go back to the military to her family, there were some protests, but they were quickly silenced by her father, a hardened veteran which stated that not only it was right for her to go back to the military, but it was her only choice, as she had chosen the military career herself. Regardless of her father's rough words, which were in part expected, given how famous he was for not being exactly someone to openly show his feelings, it was still evident that she had his support, especially with her receiving from him, a modified Lancer frame, including an upgraded heat lance and focusing more on agility instead of armor.

Armed with a modified frame and her new cybernetic arms, Klara's return to the battlefield was nothing short of terrifying for the enemy. With a frame that was able to keep up with her quick thinking and move itself in the way she wanted, Klara's contribution on the battlefield, was enough to rise her status from a mere pilot to an ace. The quick, lightning offensives commanded by her father and led by her brother had an immense success whenever she was included on them, always followed by devastating losses for the enemies. The battles after her return to the battlefield were the ones responsible for giving her the nickname 'Sanngridr'.

Unfortunately, despite the many years of service her family had dedicated to the empire and even hers and her brother's achievements in combat, something neither Klara herself nor her family was expecting. While neither one of them were oblivious to the tactics the empire used, which saw both equipment, pilots and soldiers as mere 'numbers', willing to abandon an entire platoon if the loss of units and resources was considered to be acceptable when taking in consideration the result, they had never expected such fate would befall them instead of mere low-ranking, volunteer soldiers...

Despite the repeated successes in the quick offensives Klara's division had recently, on that particular day, they encountered an unexpected resistance from the enemy. The initial plan was to quickly infiltrate behind enemy lines and attack a convoy of transportation units before they reached the front-lines carrying ammunition and resources. According to the data they received from scouts and surveillance, the convoy should have been escorted only by a few enemy battle-frames and in the beginning, everything was going on according to the plan. But on the very moment they made their attack on the convoy, the transport vehicle opened up, revealing another unit of battle-frames, ready for combat. Being quickly surrounded, Klara's unit did her best to retreat, but having been caught off-guard by the reinforcements, there was little they could do but to ask for support, which according to the report they received from the headquarters, would take a few minutes to arrive.

Despite the numerical disadvantage, Klara, her father, her brother and their unit continued slowly retreating while waiting for the promised reinforcements. Focusing only on maintaining a tight formation and avoid being flanked, they continued slowly retreating, but for every two enemy battle-frames that they damaged and incapacitated, one of theirs was completely destroyed. This grinding battle continued until there was only Klara, her brother and her father remaining. At that moment, a radio transmission was received on their radio. Relief was clear in their expression, believing the reinforcements had finally arrived. Much for their dismay though, instead of the contact from friendly units and battle-frames, they received a single message...

"Klara Weiss, Alexander Weiss and Maximilian Weiss, thank you for your years of service for the empire. May the emperor's grace be with you."

The moment they finally understood the meaning of that message, it was already too late as the artillery shells began bombarding their position, immediately annihilating both the enemy battle-frames and theirs at the same time. The empire had decided that mobilizing an entire unit as an emergency measure to enter in direct combat with the enemy forces and rescue their unit was simply too much of a waste of resources to rescue them, so instead of ending that confrontation in a total loss, they calculated it would be more beneficial to send long range artillery to bombard their position as there would be much bigger losses for the enemies than for the empire themselves. The last thing Klara remembers was the deafening explosions as the shells impacted the ground, before her battle-frame was almost tackled by her father, Maximilian and her brother Alexander...

Klara woke up hours later with the alarms of her custom Lancer unit exploding into her ear. The cockpit, albeit cracked and damaged, was still functional and the upper limbs seemed to have retained at least part of their movement, but the lower part of her battle-frame was completely gone, exploded to bits due to the bombardment. The moment she turned on the monitor again, much to her own despair, she could clearly see the reason for her survival... Above her own battle-frame, there were the contorted remains of her father and her brother's frames, having shielded her before the explosions. Enraged, Klara got out from under the scraps of her former family, dragging her broken battle-frame back towards the front-lines. During that time, there was only one thing in her mind... She wanted to know why... Who was responsible for such decision. After all the years her family dedicated to the empire and they still treated them like mere numbers.

Before she could reach her destiny though, she was stopped by a squadron of scout frames from the enemy forces, searching for survivals in the smoking crater that was once the place where the ambush convoy was. Unarmed, exhausted and with a broken frame, there was little Klara could do but to surrender herself... Oblivious to the events that led to her capture, she was considered a high-profile prisoner, due both to her status as a noble and her achievements as a pilot. It was only during her time captured that they came to know about what really happened and made Klara an offer... If she volunteered to fight for them in the Phantom Brigade and agreed with their conditions, they would not only give her a chance at revenge, but they would also consider give her political asylum and protect her, should the empire come after her after considering her a traitor. For Klara, the answer to such proposal was an easy one. Not only she would be able to go back to the battlefield, she would have a chance to get revenge on those who betrayed her.

Skills

Cybernetic arms: Klara's cybernetic arms, despite being incredibly advanced, weren't designed to make them look like human arms, instead they were designed with the sole purpose of being effective on the battlefield. Be it while piloting her battle-frame or in close combat.

Military training: While Klara is definitely at disadvantage regarding size and weight, her military training made her very fast and agile, playing to the strengths of her petite frame. Additionally, it gave her an incredible stamina in order to deal with extended periods of time piloting her battle-frame. Her cybernetic arms, due to their enhanced strength ended up covering for her previous disadvantage in close quarter combat.

'Sanngridr': Klara is incredibly proficient at piloting light, agile battle-frames on the battlefield. While she is capable of using an aggressive combat style focusing on melee weapons and heavy disruption, she is also very proficient at using her battle-frame's agility and mobility for stealth and infiltration. Her capability of moving quickly and unnoticed in the battlefield, position herself perfectly before beginning a violent carnage is what gave her such nickname.

IRISU-002X - Wraith

Battle-Frame Name - Interception, Reconnaissance, Infiltration and Stealth Unit number 002X (Experimental)

Weight Class - Light

Description

This experimental unit was developed with the intention of being a very lightly armored, extremely fast, agile and mobile unit focusing on infiltration, interception and reconnaissance. Fitting to it's name and purpose, this frame is and incredibly light one, lacking the bulky armor that most frames have and instead focusing only on shielding the most vital components, doing as much as possible to keep it's overall weight low. It's low weight and the excessively powerful Therranite reactor, normally used for heavy-units, allow this battle-frame to have an extreme mobility and speed, despite not making use of auxiliary booster systems.

Due to the extreme weight and size restrictions in order to maintain maximum speed, mobility and to keep it's radar signature as low as possible, the Wraith is completely devoid of any auxiliary or backup weapon systems and has no ranged capability other than throwing it's knives, which is only effective at medium range at best It's tail can also be used as a weapon due to the blade on it's very tip, which heat-up similarly to it's knives and is also capable of generating and discharging a powerful electric current to temporarily deactivate or even fry the electronic systems of frames which it enters in contact with.

The multiple arms and the auxiliary, thigh mounted arms not only make it a devastating frame in melee combat, but also allows it to climb and latch itself even upside-down if necessary. The shoulder-mounted harpoon system also give it quite an incredible mobility, being able to even be used as weapons if necessary. Having an almost exclusive focus on melee-combat, the Wraith frame is also equipped with a multitude of disruptive systems, such as a cloaking device, smoke and chaff area systems and the ability of producing EMP pulses.

Despite how incredibly complicated and difficult this frame is to pilot, when in the hands of an experienced pilot, it is an undeniably terrifying frame, being capable of extreme mobility, disruption and extremely effective at melee combat. It's capability of creating chaos on the battlefield after infiltrating the enemy backline only to disappear soon after was exactly what gave it's particular model name "Wraith".

Primary Systems

Upgraded Heat Knives: Given this particular frame's extreme dependence on it's melee weapons, it was provided with the most advanced model of heat knives, able of piercing and cutting through even the thickest armors either instantaneously or if given a bit of time, depending on the armor's thickness.

Flexible Anti-Mech Weapon System 'Stinger': The characteristic flexible tail is armed both with the capability of discharging a potent electric current in order to temporarily stun, disable or even fry the electronic systems from battle-frames that enter in contact with it and is armed with a heat-blade similar to the ones present in the heat daggers the frame uses. Aside from that, it can also be used to restrain and trip other frames or in a multitude of other ways.

Secondary Systems

Disruption and Counter-measure System: The IRISU-002X - Wraith frame is capable of deploying a wide area smoke and especially heated chaff made of a thermally reactive material in order to either serve as a countermeasure to guided weapons or in order to counter other frames' visual and detection systems. It is also capable of generating strong EMP pulses or even maintain an EMP field around itself.

Extremely small radar signature: Due to the way this Battle-Frame was designed the materials and even the special coat of paint used, it's radar signature is extremely small, being quite hard to detect via radar.

Advanced Radar and Detection System: In order to avoid being blinded by it's own EMP and countermeasure systems, the IRISU-002X - Wraith Battle-Frame has especially designed, strong radar and detection systems in order to prevent interference and jamming. It's capability of accurately identifying enemy units in an area around itself, by using either conventional radar systems or even special types of detection systems such as thermal vision, infrared & etc. also allow it to directly relay this information to allied units inside it's range.

Prototype System

Wraith Active Camouflage System: This experimental system, developed especially to this particular battle-frame generates an electromagnetic field with a special, very specific frequency. This electromagnetic field coats the battle-frame almost as a second skin, allowing it to bend light waves, essentially turning it virtually invisible even to infrared based detection systems. While it still works when moving fast, it's effectiveness is heavily reduced, with the frame being able to be detected as a rather noticeable 'light distortion' when observed carefully.

Despite his status as a noble, he has no problems working with common folk and is known for his calm and brave nature. During combat, Arnfinn has a more serious side to him and acts with purpose. Not a fan of reckless behavior and glory hounds. Also making sure that his allies are safe and trust that they can do their job. Though Arnfinn can be a stubborn person and hates incompetence.
• Background: Arnfinn hailing from the kingdom of Markland and was born the first child of four of House Hylen. Arnfinn's family was an influential family in the kingdom, and it was expected of him to not just honor the house and ensure their influence stays as it is. But, be the best he can be. A goal that while weighted heavily on him growing up, Arnfinn has been able to satisfy his parents' wishes even when his behavior at times seemed out of place for a noble.
  
  Still, Arnfinn with the best education given to him, and later him attending the Valhemin military academy. The kingdom's most prestigious military academy. Despite a rocky start, Arnfinn was able to thrive at the academy and would later go to the Coldsun officer's academy. Where he graduated and became an officer in the army. While this made his parents happy, Arnfinn felt dissatisfied as he had noticed the growing nepotism in the army's ranks. Making him leave the military when he was allowed, and Arnfinn wanted to do more than just do his parents' wishes. But his life would change very soon.
  
  For years there were rising tensions between King Joakim Solem and his son Prince Magnar Solem over how the kingdom was being run, how it was becoming corrupt, and on the decline. Things reached a head when news broke that the prince was planning a coup, and Joakim was unusually quick to order to arrest his son. This failed, and Magnar, who had been gathering support. Announced that his father had lied about the coup in order to silence him and declared that his father was no longer worthy of the throne. Quicking escalating into civil war.
  
  Arnfinn was unsure at first was unsure of where he stood while his parents wished for him and the house to stay out of the conflict. But he is not one to stay quiet while a war is going on. Especially one was going on in this homeland. So after thinking about it, he decided to join the prince's side and would later become a Battle Frame pilot.
  
  The war lasted four years, and it would turn when news broke about how it was revealed that King Joakim had forged Magnar's planned coup and how the prince was telling the truth, which galvanized the prince's forces, and support for the king started to dwindle. Arnfinn would fight well during the war and would fight in critical battles. Proving himself a capable officer and fighter. Though he did has issues with some of his fellow noble-born officers who were clearly not ready to lead despite being officers. It was during the war that he grew close to one officer, a commoner Siri. Who would lose her life during the civil war.
  
  When the war was over, with the death of King Joakim and Prince Magnar becoming king. Arnfinn was congratulated personally by the new king for not just his performance during the civil war but being the only one of House Hylen to fight in the civil war. Something that would weaken the family's reputation and influence.
  
  Now after leaving the military and thinking about his future now that the war was over. He heard about the Phantom Brigade and its mission. Arnfinn knew what he had to do and chose to enlist with the brigade. Now a long way from home and fighting with people he has only heard about and fighting a foe he has never faced. But this is his choice, and fighting against an unjust enemy is something he cannot just watch from the sidelines.
• Other things: Arnfinn is an amateur writer that enjoys writing about fantasy and researching the myths and legends from both Markland and more.
  
  While Arnfinn does have good relations with his family, mainly his siblings. The fact that only he disobeyed their parents and join the civil war and the only reason why House Hylen still has influence because of his actions. It has made him disappointed in his siblings. Especially his younger sister.

Which deployed the energy shield covers the front of the body like a shield. The shield can take multiple hits before needing to recharge. But, while the shield is active, the Outlander cannot use its weapons as the shield blocks the Outlander's weapons and thus it is advised to use this only when needed or when retreating.

Position in the world: North of Vinland

Recent history: Considered a bearer of the old ways. While settled by colonists from Avrupa like Vinland. Markland was mainly settled by seeking religious freedom after a pagan Avrupan religion called Esanir and was being threatened and persecuted in the religion's homeland. Thus, many of the followers of Esanir moved to the land that would be later known as Markland. Thereafter it was temporarily forgotten by the Avrupans due to a plague but was rediscovered and by then. The colonists had united into a kingdom known as the Kingdom of Markland.

Despite some tensions with their neighbor to the south, the Union of Vinland. Currently, the two nations are allies, and the kingdom has large reserves of Therranite and has invested in Battle Frames to secure their borders. However, recently the kingdom has been through a civil war between the supporters of King Joakim Solem and his son Prince Magnar Solem. Which Magnar won and has, since defeating his father, issued reforms and cracked down on corruption that had thrived during his father's rule.

Character's Relevance in the nation: Arnfinn is a respected fighter during the Marland civil war and was personally awarded by King Magnar for his efforts and is a loyal soldier to the kingdom.

The Twins

Shared history:
Jackson "Jack" Parker and his twin sister, Cassandra "Cass" Parker have been on their own since the very beginning. Orphaned as babies they were left in a basket on the steps of the Grand Cathedral in Serene by birth parents they would never know. Being raised in one of Thelème's orphanages gave the twins very little in terms of career paths, two choices were all that was ever presented to them; the clergy or the military and in truth neither were bad career paths to go into; the clergy offered a route into both politics and if you were very lucky, even high society. While the military route offered a respectable career with a decent pension option after ten years of service.

But if the twins were honest it was just the lack of choice which frustrated them, through no fault of their own they had any notion of free will ripped away from them by their parents decision to leave them on those steps. And they were the ones having to pay the price for that.

Growing up the twins were inseparable; they did everything together, went everywhere together, they were each other's world and no-one else, not even the bishop who fostered them, the one whose last name they bore, came close to the bond they share.

When Gyrland was invaded the now Arch-Bishop Parker saw an opportunity to test Thelème's new advanced weapon systems against the heathens of Ruziyane. Thelème had always had a small army, its population couldn't support anything larger and its industry lacked the ability to support heavy war machines. But advanced lethal weapon systems, however, were completely attainable. Jack and Cass were volunteered, by the man they once called papa, to travel thousands of miles from their home and do exactly that. Fight Ruziyane, help the people of Gyrland and gather performance data on both a new Mech and a new advanced missile system.

To anyone but his sister, Jack is a quiet man, not cold or rude, at least not intentionally, but quiet, single word answers, grunts of acknowledgement or simple nods are his go to response to most people, Cass prefers to do most of his talking for him anyway. To Cass though? To Cass he is the bar by which all others are judged, a good man, an honest man, one who never breaks his word without a damned good reason too and who will back those he trusts until his dying breath.

Jack is a tall attractive man standing at 6'3'' with a strong, athletic build. Atop his head sits a crop of Hazel hair which matches his eyes in every way. The only visible marking on his skin is the blood type tattoo on his neck (A+)

Jack, the self proclaimed older sibling of the pair is by all accounts the stereotypical overprotective older brother. He was always there for his sister, no matter if she was at fault or not, she was all he had and he would turn the world upside down to keep it that way. But that was also a problem, Cass has always had him at her side, her force multiplier if you will and when the time came for the pair to choose their career paths as they aged out of the orphanage at 16 he prayed to The Divine that his sister would choose the Clergy and stay safe, but when she turned up to join him for basic training he didn't try very hard to hide his disappointment.

Early in his training Jack proved himself to be an overall exceptional soldier, disciplined and dutiful, with just enough of a heart in his chest to separate himself from a machine, he was picked up quickly by Thelème's new and developing Mech programme and proved himself as an exceptional pilot as well. The only thing that has ever held him back in his career has also been the most important thing in the world to him, Cass, compared to him she was still a good soldier and eventually an excellent pilot. But the thing that truly separated them and made their superiors favour his sister was her personality, Jack had the technical skills but not the people skills, the ability to network with others opened many doors for his sister that would and indeed still do remain closed.

Jack's career was mostly unremarkable, Thelème's position on the global political and geographical stage meant it didn't have any outright enemies nearby. Avrupa couldn't burn down its biggest food exporter afterall. But as Thelème's Mech programme took off Jack found himself a second home, in the cockpit of his Mech he could, for once, be himself. He missed his sister sure but without her constant presence he could be his own person and make his own friends.

When Cass was transferred to his unit several years later he was, again, angry at her. Angry that he may fall back into the slump of being at her beck and call but to his surprise that didn't happen. Cass had grown both professionally and personally in their time apart, for the first time in his life he saw his sister hold her own in a fight without his intervention. He was proud of her and damned sure he wouldn't fall into his slump again.

The combination of Jack and Cass as Mech pilots was a fantastic one, their innate ability to read one another's actions and intentions without so much as a word made them a deadly duo in nearly every training scenario they were involved in, including joint operations with other Avrupan states. The Twins earned themselves quite a reputation among Mech units and even if Cass overshadowed him, as long as she was happy, he was happy.

When their foster father volunteered the twins to go and join the Phantom Brigade Jack almost had an aneurysm, being thousands of miles from home, strange country, strange people? Cass would love that sort of thing… but Jack? Well if Cass was happy that's all that mattered.

Cass, unlike her brother, is a naturally warm and kind person. Always trying to see the best in people and believing wholeheartedly in The Divine's teachings that Heaven can be achieved here on earth as well as in the afterlife and as such seeks to get as much enjoyment out of her life as possible. And if possible, drag her brother along for the ride.

Cass is a quite attractive woman at just over 5'8" with a lean and toned build. Shoulder length wavy blonde hair with pink tips adorn her head and like her brother she sports deep Hazel eyes and a blood type tattoo on her neck (A+). The biggest change from her brother though is the gentle smile she wears wherever she goes.

Cass has always been a carefree sprint when it comes to most things in life, but not without reason, because she has always had Jack in her corner. Bullies at school? Jack was there to sort them out. Bad boyfriend, Jack was there, bad… just anything and he was there night or day, right or wrong. As they grew up she did all she could to cling on to him, the only family she had, the only person she could rely on.

When they were supposed to go their separate ways, Jack to the military and Cass into the Clergy, she did all she could to fight it and stay with her brother. She can still remember the anger and venom in Jack's voice when he chewed her out for turning down a safe life in the clergy and risking everything he had done to keep her safe, to give her the best life possible.

But his frustration with her could never last and as they went through training and settled into regular army life he was transferred away from her unit and into Thelème's Mech programme. While Cass, thanks to her ability to make connections with others, was fast tracked for officer school. She was a good soldier just like her brother but her natural charisma drew people to her and made them want to follow her orders.

A few years after their separation Cass was presented with a dilemma, her career had been fantastic up to this point, promotions and accolades had come her way frequently and she had been given a golden ticket by army command. A transfer, anywhere she wanted and she would be there. Even the Cardinal Guard, Thelème's elite force, the best unit with the best equipment and receiving the best training, courted her. But to Cass there was only one option, "The Revenants."

Jack wasn't best pleased when Cass showed up at the unit's Barracks, not that she expected any different, but she took to integrating with the new group quickly, endearing herself to just about everyone but her brother in a short space of time. The only one who didn't like her at first was one of the mechanics with a crush on Jack who somehow missed that she and Jack were related.

The years apart had been good for both her and Jack. Cass had finally become more independent, able to stand up for herself without her brother's presence in the background constantly. And Jack had become more than just her guardian, he was his own man with his own friends and ambitions. But when their foster father volunteered the twins to join the Phantom Brigade Cass worried for her brother, to her this was a great adventure; new people, new places, a chance to help people and spread The Divine’s teachings. But to Jack? This seemed like one headache after another, as if all his old fears had come back and he was determined to drive himself into the ground to keep her safe.

The very latest Mech to roll off of Thelème’s production line, the Cardinal is the sum total of all of their technological advances in almost 20 years. Thelème cannot hope to afford to produce let alone maintain a fleet of advanced medium or heavy Mechs so they went for the next best thing: a small number of incredibly advanced light Mechs. The Cardinal is packed full of advanced systems that can aid it in dominating a battle space; Independent target tracking, HD Thermal vision systems, motion trackers, recon/targeting drones and one of the most advanced anti-Mech missile systems on the planet help the Cardinal excel in almost any environment.

The Cardinal is a light even for a light Mech, with a top speed of 30mph (50kph) and armour rated for little more than high calibre small arms, the Cardinal excels at engaging foes from range or from their flanks and relying upon its advanced suite of countermeasures to avoid anything close to a fair fight.

• L8A1 30mm Mag Rifle:
  The L8 family of Mag Rifles have been the standard issue armament for Thelème’s Mech’s since the programme began. A venerable and rugged design the L8A1 is made to be highly accurate, durable and easy to maintain while keeping true to the weapons original design specifics. The L8A1 is equally capable of mincing infantry with HEF rounds or poking holes in light and medium Mechs with its APDS rounds. Sporting two fire modes; Semi-Automatic for distant targets or Fully-Automatic (750RPM) for closer engagements.
• Paladin LR-NLOS missile system:
  The Paladin missile is the Cardinal’s claim to fame, perhaps the most advanced missile system on the planet; it comes standard with 16 km range allowing it to engage targets well beyond visual range. Capable of both Fire-and-forget and Beam Riding the Paladin is designed to engage both ground targets and low flying aircraft, it pairs perfectly with the Cardinals independent recon drone which carries its own laser designator allowing the Paladin to engage targets on the other side of large terrain. The Paladin comes as standard with three missile types; Tandem Charge; for engaging hostile Mechs, Proximity Fuze for engaging hostile aircraft and Thermobaric for engaging Infantry.

Recent history: The Church with a State, Thelème was founded as a nation in the Aftermath of the Plague, Thelème was founded by a charismatic preacher known as "The Cardinal" and his followers. They arrived in the lands preaching about the word of "The Divine" and preyed on the locals' fear and superstitions about the origin of the Plague, creating a loyal and obedient populace in the process.

Nowadays Thelème is known as "Avrupa's Bread Basket." Its location in sunny Central Avrupa gives Thelème access to perhaps the most fertile farmland in all of Avrupa. Thelème has a total of three major cities including its capital Serene which gives it a relatively small population for its size as most of its land is dominated by great farming estates and woodland. Its small population translates to Thelème's military as well, small and professional, driven by equally healthy doses of propaganda and religious fervour.

Detailed Appearance

Rimau is tall and well-built, her frame not bulky but fairly broad-shouldered. Her fighter's build suits her well, giving her the strength and endurance needed to be a soldier. She wears her hair long and sticks to casual clothes covered by an armor vest as opposed to any sort of uniform, the break from protocol tolerated due to her exemplary service and her unique role.

Her arms are quite obviously cybernetic in nature, Rimau having replaced them after sustaining injuries in battle. Originally they had been covered up with flesh-toned plastic but the lacquer kept getting chipped, leading Rimau to simply strip it off. In addition, her legs and spine have been augmented as well. These modifications were originally just to allow her to move greater weights and handle extremely hot materials so she could make Frame repairs in the field but they've proven useful offensively as well. The drastic increase in strength (it's hard to calculate a specific increase but the literature says it's about 200%) means that she can demolish anyone who would dare to get within kicking distance, and the compact machine pistol built into her right arms ensures she will never be caught unarmed.

Personality

Rimau has two modes of being: what her adopted country wants her to be like, and what she's actually like. Gyrland needs her to present herself as a loyal and devoted soldier, dedicated to the cause and unwavering in her support. Ramshackle is upbeat in the face of danger but not blase about it, treating combat as a serious but righteous effort.

While there is an element of truth to this facade it covers up much of the real Rimau. She's spent her entire adult life manipulating people to get them to support one military or another, and while she'd never even think that she's on the wrong side she can't help but feel guilty. She knows for a fact that people from her home country have come to fight and die, feeling the weight of their fates on her shoulders (rightly or wrongly). The past ten years have been filled with doubt for her, and it's unlikely that she'll ever shake her worries.

In the meantime, she just keeps doing her job.

Bio

Rimau was born in Temasek, a nation stretched across tropical islands about far as possible from Gyrland. Once a disparate set of feuding tribes ruled by distant foreigners, Temasek had quickly modernized after gaining its independence, becoming a leader in technological research and development. By the year of her birth Rimau's hometown, the capital city Ancar, was renowned for its information industry. Her father worked in cybersecurity, her mother headed systems design at a major software firm, so it was of little surprise that Rimau grew up with technology.

Like many teens Rimau grew up with social media but she had a knack for online popularity that was abnormal among her peers. While not particularly interested in becoming any sort of media personality or influencer she did think it prudent to try and turn her talent into a career. Advertising seemed a natural fit, and Rimau went to university to study digital marketing.

This was not a field she enjoyed but it did offer decent pay. Before she could apply to any firm however the military got to her first, calling her up for the two years of service required of every young adult. Like every other cadet she was taught the basics of military service but when it came time for her to specialize she was pulled in two very different directions.

The Armed Forces knew about her studies and experience with marketing and thus wanted her to work with the recruiters, churning out videos and posts trying to entice people to sign up after their mandatory service. She was good at the work to be sure, but found it soulless and ultimately kind of ugly. She was drawn to the Battle Frames, the walking weapons that were changing the way wars were fought.

Rarely does the military do what its individual cogs wish for, but Rimau did so well in the tests that it would have been wasteful to keep her away from a Frame. Some kind officer made the decision to split the difference for her: she would create recruitment-driving puff pieces for the army, but as part of the Battle Frame Corps. Her job was to present as being a patriotic citizen who was just so glad to serve her country that she couldn't help but share her adventures with the world.

And that was just what she did. Rimau recorded herself and her squad mates at the range and during maneuvers, the footage carefully poured over by a team of PR people to squeeze the most value possible out of it. During her tenure reenlistment jumped by a little over forty percent, and while it couldn't all be attributed to her work she had undeniably played a major part in it.

Rimau was the face of Temasek's Battle Frames, and by her fourth year she was sick of it. For all the nation's fear-mongering and hoard-building she had yet to see combat against any force more powerful than jungle-dwelling rebels and pirates on captured tankers. After so much time playing pretend Rimau wanted to actually fight for a cause.

She had just resigned from the Corps to go search for civilian work when the invasion happened, and she jumped at her chance. Rimau made the trip to Gyrland and presented herself to the rapidly-disintegrating Homeguard, joining the first wave of foreign volunteers.

To her dismay, the Homeguard put her to work doing the same thing she did back home. In between sorties and probing actions against the Ruzis Rimau made calls for material support from Temasek, serving as a pretty face through which Gyrland could seek assistance.

The nagging doubts over the validity of her service came to a head when she was honored for bravery under fire. Five years into her time with Homeguard a force of requisitioned Frames supported by infantry and light vehicles attempted to push into one of the outer territories controlled by Ruziyane. Rimau was part of the supporting forces, and when the attack began to stall she was pulled up to assist.

The breakthrough attempt failed and what began as an ordered retreat threatened to disintegrate into a route. A unit of anti-armor infantry had overstretched itself, shunted out of position so that they were at risk of being totally surrounded. Rimau had the only heavy ordnance left in the area and thus swung into action, attracting enemy attention and laying down covering fire to give the Guards time to escape.

She sustained shrapnel injuries to her arms, chest, and neck as well as minor burns to her torso and was recognized for her gallant efforts with not only a Purple Heart but the extremely prestigious King's Star. Such a high honor was bittersweet due to there being no king to bestow it upon her, but she also couldn't shake the feeling that she wouldn't have been given it if she wasn't expected to parade it on camera.

Rimau considered leaving but stayed in hopes of eventually living up to the medal she had been given. She has failed to do so in the five years since.

Extras

• In addition to her role as Frame pilot and walking propaganda poster Rimau is sometimes called into service as infantry when a patrol needs to be rounded out or a unit is short on manpower in the aftermath of a raid. She actually enjoys ground-pounding because it feels more real to her than her piloting career at this point.
• Ramshackle was already something of a packrat in civilian life but a decade of scavenging for parts has made this a much larger part of her personality. Weapons, cash, useful salvage, anything that has a use she'll scoop up off the battlefield. She stashes foot patrol gear in her cockpit, carrying a rifle, sidearm, ammunition and spare magazines, food, water, and medical supplies as well as a small civilian model drone for reconnaissance or simple sight-seeing.
• While she's never been formally trained Rimau is a good artist, making use of paint and pencil in order to pass the time. She is a trained kickboxer and at one point had a real shot of going pro. She still spars regularly, manually limiting the power of her enhanced limbs to not simply behead her partners.
• Her cybernetics were far too expensive for her to afford on her own, and in fact, were a gift of sorts. When she made a video about her injuries in the field and mentioned the long recovery process a viewer started a crowdfunding campaign to get her back in the fight sooner.

Battle-Frame Name - Hantu Belian 0054-"Chop Shop"

Weight Class - Ultra-Light

Description

The Belian is already an oddball within Temasek's Hantu-series of Battle Frames due to its parentage, a mixture of Gyrland's Basilisk and reverse-engineered examples of the Ruzi Watchman. The idea was to build an ultra-light Frame that could serve as both a long-distance reconnaissance unit and an 'assassin' to cripple or kill key components of a defensive network. It excels at this task, with the caveat that it's fairly vulnerable even for a light Frame.

Over a decade of scrounging, scrapping and reconfiguring Rimau has taken this to an extreme, cutting out most of what was left of the armor and stripping out all non-essentials in order to pile in bigger engines, better subsystems and a hell of a lot more firepower.

The "Chop Shop" quite frankly sucks to ride in. It's sweltering in the heat and freezing in the cold due to the removal of the cockpit's temperature control, its controls combine two already finicky setups with a series of aftermarket additions and the pilot is violently jostled when making sharp turns. Controlling the beast requires one to be able to read three different languages as well as understand low-level programming. Essentially, the user has to specialize in all of the disparate parts that make up the strange whole.

This is all a tremendous pain in the ass for Rimau, but the inconveniences are worth it. Ten years of experience and fine-tuning add up to what is an absolutely lethal predator. The Chop Shop is terrifyingly fast and carries enough ordinance to control a fire zone on its own, quite capable of dealing with Frames, vehicles and infantry. It can outrun and outshoot any problem it comes across, zipping across the battlefield at blistering speeds while saturating the enemy with fire.

Primary Weapons

Heavy Battle Rifle: The rifle used by a standard Basilisk, but modified to fire in full auto. Additional upgrades include a heavier barrel as well as custom porting to counteract the heat generated by firing.

"Mjölnir" Assault Shotgun Where the HBR is designed to deal with Frames and other heavy vehicles the Mjölnir instead focuses on infantry and other lightly armored targets. It primarily fires solid slugs and standard buck or bird shot, all upscaled to fit a weapon fired by a fifty foot war machine. A common usage of the MAS is cracking open the walls of a bunker with a slug and then turning the occupants into mist with a spray of birdshot.

The MAS can also fire specialized ammunition such as incendiary, explosive or gas shells but doing so requires the weapon to be switched to pump-action, as specialized ammo doesn't generate enough gas to cycle the weapon automatically.

"Ripsaw" Close-Quarters Arm Weapon: Only ever referred to by its nickname because CQAW is a horrible acronym. The Ripsaw takes the fundamental function of a standard oscillating bone saw and applies to it a short sword contained in the Chop Shop's wrist. Then the whole thing is superheated so it glows blue-hot. It will cut through Frames of all sizes, and make short work of any other barrier.

Missile Pods: Stripped from Ruziyane helicopters in the aftermath of an airfield raid, one attached to each shoulder. Generally one will have four heavy missiles loaded while the other has twenty unguided rockets for use in area suppression.

SubSystems

Sensors: A key component of the Chop Shop is that it can find the enemy before they find it. It boasts an advanced suite of optics, allowing it to zoom in on targets and switch between thermal and night vision modes, as well as cutting-edge radar systems for long-range detection. For use in short-range engagements or situations where the enemy is cloaked it also has access to sonar, bouncing sound waves off Frames to ping their location.

Shielding: Nearly every bit of physical armor has been stripped away to cut back on weight, but Rimau kept the Belian's systems protection. All electrical components have been hardened to withstand electromagnetic attacks and radio frequency interference, ensuring that it can't simply be crippled by way of electricity (at least not without entirely melting the Frame).

The Chop Shop communicates only through relatively a relatively primitive radio system to ensure that no signal can be seized upon by enemy hackers.

"Dustcloud" Suite: The Chop Shop is equipped with a chaff-laced smokescreen, deploying it to blind enemies while still being able to target them due to the aforementioned sonar.

Prototype System

Banshee Sonic Warfare System : The BSWS is essentially a dramatic upgrade to the venerable LRAD anti-personal weapons, a series of micro-speakers layered throughout the Chop Shop designed to project focused sonic blasts. Using Sound Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation (SASER) the Banshee can either project a field in a sphere around itself or fire a much longer-range cone of sound directly ahead.

At long distances, the weapon disorientates and temporarily deafens anyone caught in the field but as targets get closer to the source the damage becomes more intense. Glass breaks, ears bleed as the hearing loss becomes permanent and the body suffers physical trauma. At close enough range and high enough intensity the Banshee can quite easily kill, generating air embolisms that dramatically rupture organs. Pilots inside frames can suffer these effects as well, making the Banshee perfect for dealing with particularly hard targets.

It's major downside is that it can't be controlled outside of lowering the volume. Friendlies in the radius are just as susceptible as enemies so Rimau has to be careful with her positioning.

Nation

Nation name: Temasek

Membership: Suspicious of Avrupa and Ruziyane but closely allied to Vinland.

Position in the world: The Republic of Temasek lies far to the west of Avrupa, a small nation-state stretched across an archipelago.

Recent history: Temasek was once split between the nations of Avrupa, colonized by outsiders so that distant monarchies could get rich off the land's natural resources. After centuries of subjugation and the tribes and clans that lived on the island rose up against their Avrupan masters in a coordinated rebellion, one that was in part funded and equipped by Vinland. This sparked a strong relationship between the two countries, one that held together even as Vinland began to treat Avrupa with less hostility.

Its alliance with Vinland as well its relatively abundant supply of Therranite led to Temasek taking quite well to Battle Frames. The country is, while densely populated considering its small size, still drastically outnumbered by the Hegemony or any other major power that might wish to invade so technological prowess is a key part of its military strategy. Temasek invested heavily in Battle Frame and Therranite research, working with Vinland to back up its conscription-based army with powerful equipment.

In recent years Temasek has been particularly paranoid about the possibility of invasion. While it had no real connections with the now-largely defunct Gyrland, its brazen occupation has sent the republic's leaders into a frenzy. Some sectors have been converted from low-priority production of luxury items into wartime industry, factories churning out armor and ammunition to be stashed away until needed by military or paramilitary forces. The R&D community has particularly focused on further refining Therranite. Advances have been made in weaponizing the material, and early efforts to make Frames more fuel-efficient show promise.

Growing up educated in the best schools and attending military academy and officers school, Edward is considered a privileged son of a well of Vinland's upper crust. Big thing are expected of him... Which is why his volunteering for the Phantom Brigade came out of left field military service was supposed to a stepping stone, not a calling for young Edward... But now the only thing he can't do when others suffer, is nothing at all.
• Background: Vinland native born and raised to a Admiral mother and a Senator mother, with a busy but distantly loving parents. The oldest of four siblings, he grew up in the family estate outside of Blackwater, the capital of Vinland. He spent his days under private tutors, riding horses, boxing, and learning to shoot. His family had expectation for their first born to become a officer and later politician in Vinland. Edward never questioned it growing up though he would find himself frustrated by his siblings passions being indulged while he was made to drill and attend military school.
  
  Graduating top of his class from Shatterpoint officers academy he was expected to coast along his laurels for four years of service and exit the military. But for the first time in his life, Edward ignored his families opinion and trusted his gut. He asked to join a Battle-frame unit... One of the new Paratrooper units. Vinland having chosen to develop their own special forces drop unit with a belief they could use this new development to help the Federation forces. Becoming one of the first to do so, Edward was dropped for the sky becoming one of a handful of pilots rated for such an action. His family though annoyed for his ignorance of their fears and worries over his safety would be even more alarmed.
  
  Edward volunteered for Ranger school, pushed to the brink of exhausted made to survive without support and evade his foes all alone for days on end. Becoming the first airborne battle-frame pilot Ranger in Vinland's military, Lieutenant Royce was still not content with his training and legacy. A powerful, though it's fire rate is dependent on use of coolant to prevent the rifle from overheating. Able to fire single shot, burst, and full auto each setting reduces the power of the individual shot for faster fire rate.
  
  Personal Defense Shield: Like most of Vinland's Frame's the Commando makes use of a specialized tungsten and depleted uranium armor shield to shrug off rounds fired at it and help it stay in the fight longer than a normal medium armor frame would.
  
  M1 Anti-Frame Sword: Vinland's answer to close combat, able to parry and deal with foes at close range, this weapon option is best for when the rifle simply will not do.

  Combat Knife: Vinland provides a combat knife on all machines for the purposes outside of combat as well as defending oneself if main weapons are lost or damaged.
• Prototype Weapon/Equipment System: Aurelia, Combat Support AI: The latest in AI technology Aurelia offers strategic input and is able to help optimize the reactor, weapons, and more on the fly. Able to provide support and co-ordinate multiple Frames in battle, Aurelia makes use of Commando's systems to read the battlefield and analyze it. Offering real time tactical support and communication between command elements and forces in the field as well as allies. Her core is housed within the Crawler though she does require the Commando to be in the field to act as her relay point.
