World Building Exercise
I am looking for creative minds who wish to contribute to a project developing the planets, star systems, governments, species, and technologies of the indigenous inhabitants of the planets we create. Use my planet as an example if needed or create your own without looking at mine.
You are encouraged to create more than one planet or star system. Please limit your planet to one intelligent indigenous species initially. If you would like to write a history of how other life forms came to live on your planet, please do, but use other created species, from existing worlds. We will eventualy come up with a star date system to track events in history.
Once we are complete, we can use this world to host Roleplays. Anyone who contributes to this thread can participate in any thread created by any other member who contributes to this thread. When we think we are complete, we can brainstorm some ideas for plots, storylines and roleplays. I italicized the word, complete, because there is no time limit and you can add more worlds in the future.
***If you have what it takes to create one or more worlds, please dive in and express your creativity!***
My Notes
1. All inhabitable planets rotate on their axis in 24 hours to bring all planets, people, and ships to the same time system.
2. A star system will have anywhere from four to 15 planets. Most are either too cold or too hot to sustain life. The locum vivum band (place of life) of every star system is between the second and fifth planets. Not all of these may sustain life, but more than one can sustain life. It is also possible to create moons large enough to sustain life within this band. The moon must also be large enough to maintain the 24-hour time system.
3. A list of usable species is given if you do not want to create one of your own. Species must have evolved from a lesser life form and cannot have already evolved into a higher life form that transcends the material plane.
4. Magic is possible, but severe limitations will be imposed. This magic is not like that experienced in JK Rowling’s Harry Potter universe. A creature may possess a racial trait shared by all like the empathic communications technique of the Betazed. A species may have the ability to communicate telepathically to individuals or to a group as desired. Magically enhanced space travel, time travel, or mind control are not available.
5. Species may be no smaller than 3’ and no larger than 16’ in height.
6. FTL speed is available for technological advancements. Ships use a light-speed system measured in gradient terms. Ships may travel between Festin Factor 1 and 9. Ships traveling above Festin Factor 8 for too long will experience physical damage to their engines.
7. Possible Fuels include: Dilithium Crystals, Rhydonium, Baradium Nitrate, Deuterium, Ipsium, Kessoline, Megonite, Nergon-15, Zylium 12, Coaxium and Clouzon-58.
8. Energy-based weapons are the norm. High Energy Lasers (HELs), which emit photons at the speed of light. HELs have an unlimited magazine but are degraded by rain and fog.
9. High Power Microwaves (HPMs) release radiofrequency waves that can impact targets over a wide area. They have a shorter range than HELs. Their beam degrades over long distances.
10. Millimeter wave weapons have non-lethal military applications such as crowd control and area denial. These can produce significant injuries but are proven to be safe.
11. A directed energy weapon inflicts damage via a beam or pulse of electromagnetic radiation, high-energy particles, or more exotic forms of energy. Directed energy weaponry replaced projectile weapons, which tended to be regarded as more "primitive". The most common types of directed energy weapons are phasers and disruptors. This does not negate the fatal damage of projectile weapons.
12. Antiproton weapons are available for only the most advanced civilizations which can be used to destroy entire planets.
13. Communications work like email with transmission speeds being boosted to Festin Factor 30 which would have transmissions arrive more than three times faster than the fastest ships available.
14. This is a list of possible races you may use or build upon. Please do not feel limited by this list. You can add characters and cultural nuances as you see fit.
Humans: the norm as we know them on earth
Klingons: As found on Star Trek. This race of warriors is based on historical Japanese culture.
Krill: as found on The Orville
Chak'tal: As found on the Orville
Zehoberei: As found in the Marvel Universe
Iktotchi: As found in Star Wars Universe
Bothans: as found in Star Wars Universe
Kel Dor: as found in Star Wars Universe
15. Please do not create Artificial Life forms similar to Data on Star Trek, Cylons of Galactica, or the Khalon of The Orville. Although Artificial life forms used to perform services for other races are generally acceptable.
16. Bio-engineered species can be used but for every trait you add to a species through bio-engineering, something is taken away.
