Well, my suggestion was actually kind of a joke, so I don't feel offended in any way

Recettear is a game where you play an adorable girl in charge of an item shop. She must pay off her father's debt or else she ends up in a box.

You don't want her to end up in a box, do you?

Basically you play as the owner of your typical RPG item shop. XD It's really really fun, honestly.

o.o Sounds interesting.

I've just brainstormed about a dozen possible challenges based off of Doctor Who and Homestuck (each). I'll probably give them all a bit more thought later tonight to see if I can narrow those ideas down to the ones that'll probably work the best.

Do any of them involve Fearing the Dark, not Blinking, Extermination, Upgrading, or a dozen other horrible things that exist in the Dr. Who universe?

Eh, as long as it doesn't involve River Song.

The first two, maybe.

I wanted to avoid the aliens that have been around for a really long time in the show's history like Daleks and Cybermen, not just because they'd be such obvious choices but also because, if the universe of the show is so big and complicated, I might as well look towards the more obscure parts of it and maybe coming up with something a little more interesting.

Although, among other ideas inspired by the Classics, I did consider a challenge based around the Daleks as they were originally portrayed... just because that would be hilarious, given how different they are from the Daleks we know today.

I planned on avoiding canon characters in just about every idea I thought up, only re-using the setting and the monsters. So even if I use the Library, River won't be there.

She's a terribly written mary sue with an annoying catchphrase that made me lose interest and faith in a series I've loved since I was a kid? Well, she's not the only reason but she was still a pretty big contributor to it.

Interesting.

I'll be honest, with the kinds of stuff that exists in the Dr. Who universe, I'm amazed that humanity managed to set up an Empire instead of crawling back into bed and hiding beneath the covers with a flash light and a twelve gauge shotgun.

I don't really see the Mary Sue aspect. It's not like she doesn't have her own problems to deal with.

Plus, at least she wasn't a full-fledged companion. She was only around in certain episodes, and then stopped being a thing even before Eleven's run was over. (Also I cosplayed her once, so I admit to being biased.)

Even so, one character you dislike seems like a kind of sad reason to "lose faith" in a show that's been around for almost 51 years now and has been through plenty of slumps that it's managed to get out of. I mean, the show thrives on change. It changes constantly. If you have anything against any character, writer, or anyone else involved with the show, it's unlikely they'll be around for more than a few years.

Buuuuuuuut that's just the obsessive fangirl in me speaking, now. *shrugs* Feel free to ignore me.

I guess that's why the Doctor likes them so much. They put up with a lot, and managed to survive to the end of the universe. That's awfully impressive.

I said she wasn't the only reason. The writing has gone horribly downhill for the past few years and even decent actors can't save it anymore.

...And... Honestly, she's a mary sue. There's no real denying that at all.

You mean aside from the fact that the episodes she did appear in went out of their way to show how awesome she was? And the whole "married to the Doctor" thing, which is kind of the classic fangirl wet dream? Or the fact that she's conveniently a Time Lord due to some contrived Deus Ex Machina bollocks?

Edit: I'm typing on a Kindle. There's going to be autocorrect problems.

So, um, while we're waiting for GS to continue this(hopefully soon), I have kind of been mulling over potential challenge ideas still.

I concede on that point. I can see why people wouldn't like her.

I would list the reasons why I actually like her still, but I'm really not in the mood for a debate... *counts down the minutes to the season 8 finale*

Besides, I admit to liking some of the most universally-despised companions in the show's history, so... yeah my opinions aren't exactly popular, I realize.

The next challenge will probably influence my second character choice. I'm weighing a couple of options, but my most favorable ones seem to be overpowered, underpowered and too similar to another character, respectively.

I think I have an idea for a (Homestuck-based) challenge.

The objective of the challenge will be "Put the bunny back in the box".

The characters will be put on an island, and have access to a small box. The challenge objective would imply that a bunny used to be in that box. The goal? Explore the island, and find that bunny, and return it to its cube of origin. The catch? This island is full of strange, mostly dangerous wildlife and weird puzzles. :3

Hmm, it would seem that the character I was most strongly considering would be absurdly overpowered compared to the rest of the cast. I hadn't realized this at first, but after revisiting the source material, it seems that she gets up to some serious bullshit. I guess this thing sort of happens when you're a parody of a shounen manga protagonist.

Though, granted, I may still play her, but with her abilities strongly understated.
