Maddox vs Grant battle part two

The Iron Enigma mage didn't seem to react until right before the kick would connect, when he suddenly dodged and moved for a counterattack at high speed. Oh, so he's fast, Maddox thought, kicking off the ground backwards and narrowly dodging Grant's open palm strike. Apparently he attempted a magical attack, Link Bodies were the words he used. After he landed again, Maddox slid backwards on his feet another meter. He was pretty confident that I wouldn't play some trick there, Maddox thought, his red eyes settling on Grant's own gaze. I suppose I can't take him too lightly. He genuinely wants to hurt me, after all.

Maddox removed his hands from his jacket pockets now. It was a small detail, but one perhaps Phoenix Wing veterans would recognize. Maddox had fought and sparred with others in the past, always losing to them in the end. But he would always keep his hands in the pockets of his jacket. Now that his hands were free, Maddox asserted a fighting stance of his own. His stance was close, but his left arm was stretched out with his palm facing Grant. It was clear now that he was a martial artist, judging by stance alone. "I underestimated your speed," Maddox confessed, rotating his right foot slightly. "I don't intend to find out what exactly your magic will do to me, however. Let's leave that a mystery." The red-haired mage then charged forward, closing the gap between himself and Grant in no time. He brought his left leg up again for a kick, but it was only a feint. Midway through the strike he pulled his leg back and bent inwards, before rotating his upper body completely for a roundhouse with his right leg. He was yet to use his magic, but even without it Maddox was quite fast. The crowd began to roar once he charged forward, as it was just how Grant predicted. The fight had truly begun.

Grant chuckled a little as Maddox spoke, amused. "I guess you could call it speed. As for what my magic will do to you, it all depends on which magic I use." His smile took on a sinister edge, and the magic circle appeared again in his eye when Maddox launched his attack, and he ignored the feint. However, when Maddox launched into the roundhouse, before it got much momentum, it would land squarely in Grant's hand. His blood staining the fabric of Maddox's pants, Grant would let go with the attack stopped, and in his hand a crude-looking knife formed. He would slash forward with it, almost lazily, but fast enough that even when Maddox dodged small splatters of blood would get on his clothes.

"Offensive body link magic isn't the only thing I'm known for, after all." Grant would place a hand on his chest, a magic circle appearing, though Grant didn't say anything this time. Once he was done, he crossed his arms, the knife he had had was now gone, and he awaited Maddox's next move. It was clear he wasn't going to play this match offensively. Or, at least, no more offensively than he had to. "But, I'll stick to it, for now."

Grant wasn't slow, nor was he weak. He was able to block Maddox's surprise kick. Interesting. Afterwards he created a knife out of blood and began slashing, prompting Maddox to jump backwards and keep dodging. I probably have to use my magic to beat him. Standard combat isn't making much progress. The red-haired mage landed a safe distance away once Grant stopped slinging the knife and blood around. The question becomes is that his blood or someone else's. If it's his then he could wear himself out pretty quickly with attacks like that. Otherwise it would be pointless to drag into a war of attrition.

Once again the man didn't take the offense. This didn't bother Maddox too much, as his martial art was built around the offense so he was still in his element. But the man's lack of action was concerning nonetheless. He knows something that I don't know he knows. He's a thinker. Plotting something. A smirk played on Maddox's lips. "Not to sound rude, but I don't know you very well," Maddox confessed. "That seems a bit unfair, because you know your opponent and I don't share the luxury." His banter was meant to be playful, as the handicap he mentioned wasn't groundbreaking nor did it particularly matter. "I guess I'll learn about you during this fight." Maddox charged forward again, this time stopping just in front of Grant instead of coming at him directly with an attack. Once he stopped he began a series of rapid open-palm strikes, aiming each one for vulnerable areas and pressure points. He was very familiar with the weaknesses of the human body and hoped to exploit them on Grant right now.

Grant shrugged as Maddox cplained about not knowing him. "I know you only by reputation, Maddox. I'm sure you have something I don't know about, you've already seen all my cards. Especially if you know my sister Melina." He held up his hands, open, seemingly unbothered by the crimson liquid running down his arm. He overall seemed nonchalant, and he clearly wasn't taking the fight with all the seriousness he should, but he was one of the few cocky bastards that had good reason to be cocky, at least for now. The magic circle he had placed on himself became almost invisible, but was still there for anyone who looked closely enough to see.

As Maddox launched into his next flurry off attacks, Grant only bothered redirecting or blocking hits that would be seriously debilitating, the magic circle in his eye never fading. However, every dislocated joint, and possibly any broken bones, would seem to fix itself in moments. Each one inflicting some of it's pain and fatigue back upon the assailant, though only a tiny fraction of what Grant was facing. Grant's smile never faded, however, save the occasional small wince. After a bit of this, Grant would launch an attack of his own, aiming for a palm strike on the front of Maddox's shoulder this time. "Link Bodies!" He did this as Maddox launched one of his own attacks, forcing him to either attempt a quick exit from the attack, or land it and suffer the consequences of whatever blow Grant was attempting. While he doubted the attack would hit, Grant did his best to anticipate Maddox's movements, but his precognition did not extend to offensive maneuvers. He only needed to touch his opponent to trigger the spell.

Tidius
@t2wave

Tidius looked to Ariel, wondering what she was thining. "Why would it make it more complicated? You have a support network, that is willing to help you. Why would it be wrong? if you were by yourself, and encounted this magic, you would be alone. No one to help you, and no one to care. Is that better? less complicated, yes. But not better" He said, looking to the little girl, wondering if the spirit could talk.

Sasha
@YipeeXD

"I worry too much because others don't worry enough. I can't help it" She said softly, but was willing to put this aside for now, turning her attention completely to the battle, and couldn't help but smile as Lazarus sprang up. Her mind turn to the conditions that Liana had put on letting him remain out of prison, and she couldn't 'help but wonder if the first event had been the test, or not. They wouldn't never know.

Jarvis

Jarvis sighed softly, and just shook his head, as Rose left the room. He really didn't want to be lectured. He was silent for a few moments, before saying "Is this the price you were talking of?" making no comment on the half hearted joke, wanting to know if this was the payment or if it was an after effect of the magic.

Master Jamie

Jamie looked to Fraquar, "This is guild business, Fraquar. My guilds Business" While the help would be appreciated, Jamie didn't want to bring anyone else into this, and make a bigger mess of it all. He knew that Mithera wouldn't be easy to find, knowing they probably wouldn't find her before the day was out. "This is my responsibility, and if two guild masters are missing from the games, then I'm sure people will know that something is up"

It had absolutely nothing to do with the fact that Riders Blade was questionable at the moment. Jamie really didnt want to cause any trouble to the games, but would if pressed.

Michael

Michael let Nero talk, and then said softly, "hermes told me that Gabriel did...start this, but that he also backed away straight away. So he knew he over stepped, but he didn't use magic. I know my brother. He knows I have Uriel, an angel spirit who could easily have fixed your face. He would have, just like I would have, offered you that. There's a difference, you idiot, to fighting with fists, and fighting with magic."

Michael didn't get to say anythng more, at Ayame's outburst. and didn't move to dodge the attack, but Uriel was there, always watching, always protecting, to stop it "I know my brother is angry. I know he can be irrational. Thats why I toldl him to go to Frenzy Plant. I thought it was the best guild for him, but obviously he isn't finding acceptance there. I know it will make him worse, if he doesn't. I have no doubt that he didn't deserve something, but this? This is just wrong. And out of control"

He looked as Nero went off, and sighed. "Go fix his face. I can at least fix one of Gabriel's mistakes" Michael said softly to Uriel, knowing the spirit wouldl be okay, that it was just a quick touch and then Uriel would be gone faster then Nero could retaliate , shaking now, as if all the strength had left him. Maybe Balthazar could help with the curse on Gabriel. But Michael didn't think so.

He looked to Eve, and said softly, stuttering now "If h-he d-doesn't s-s-stop attacking p-p-people over simple things, he's g-g-going to end up d-d-dead, you d-d-do know" but maybe that was what the necromancer wanted. Michael grimaced, for thinking that of a guild member. And then Michael walked over to his brother, kneeling down, watching Uriel almost...flitter to Nero, touching the Genie quickly for contact with healing light, and then disappearing, returning to Michael's side, standing over him.

Damian Gerard|Arena Area

Damian didn't even get a chance to respond to Fraquar before Master Jamie cut the idea of help off. His dismissal of offered help bugged Damian, and he couldn't help but feel the turn down was due to the Rider's Blade having a questionable past. "All due respect, Master Jamie, you put me in charge of finding our guild mates and I won't turn down help offered from anyone who offers. Besides, he's right. It's been long enough her scent would be muddled with others."

Ariel
@Caits
"I didn't mean it was wrong, just meant I had to deal with more magic more quickly. I haven't had the chance to learn or build up the magics like I have with Water and Fire." She crossed her arms and shivered a bit. The strange girl disappeared.

Glancing back the last spirit had taken form. Ariel didn't get a chance to say anything before the third spirit had rushed up and covered her mouth. Her voice was muffled as she was constricted by a serpent woman. Tidius was very likely to turn around to see that his test subject was now in the clutches of a monster. Even so the woman spoke in a hushed voice. "Shh. You didn't think you could get rid of me by forgetting did you?"

NOLAN, ENMA, AND DALTON

The exceed looked at James and stuck his tongue out at him. "Ya got a long pole up ya ass don't ya?"

Enma took Fleo's hand and shook it though this time he didn't crush it like he had done to so many before hand. Zander actually had to teach him that a handshake is meant to be a greet, not a form of breaking someone's hand like he had previously thought. He chuckled from her saying that he is a frightening person to be around. "Don't worry I'm not gonna eat you, much." He winked at her and laughed like a hardy fellow that just wanted to have a good time. He pat her head with his large hand and grabbed a bag of popcorn that he had somehow managed to keep hidden in his sleeve and begun to munch on it though his face went pale as soon as he saw a familiar friend glaring holes behind Fleo's head.

"And what the hell do you mean by you 'didn't know what to expect from an actual friend of Nolan, but I'm not surprised?'" He asked with a dark shadow around his face. How no one notice him approaching them? He literally was walking with a dark aura over him that screamed 'fuck, puppies, fuck life, fuck the world, fuck everything.'

"Uh...are you all right Nolan. You look kinda...volatile." The oni asked with a bead of sweat dripping down his head.

"Heh, he's just embarrassed because he got freaked out by a woman." Dalton chuckled and out of nowhere a white band covered his mouth and prevented him from speaking. "Mph?! Mhphmphmph! Hmmmmmph?!" He tried to rip it off his face though it wouldn't even budge.

Nolan glanced down at Dalton and shrugged. It was just a simple spell that turned wandering souls into constructs and in this case it was a duct tape substitute. He then looked at Marlene and remained silent to her question. "...." He began to inch away from her slowly.

James Hunt|Phoenix Wing Seating

On top of the duck tape substitute, a hammer made of light impacted the Exceed's head, leaving a rather large bump thought James still faced forwards. "Sorry, forgot my magic can be quite solid from time to time." And then he turned around again, looking everyone over. "It occurs to me I don't know many of the names of my guild mates. I am James Hunt, Paladin. You all are?" He knew names, sure, but faces weren't yet attached to them.

Marlene Evangeline

OK. Now things were starting to get just a little too weird and awkward for Marlene. From Enma's sudden mood swings just by certain distractions, to a now paranoid gynophobic, this was getting a bit much for her. All she wanted was nothing more but to get to know her comrades... and apparently seduce tease him. Yet even under such a stress, Marlene still felt sorry for Nolan. He looks like a really good guy who can get along with people... at least with men. And yet, here he is, scared by a harmless woman who just wanted to be friends. Yet with his aura all dark and ready to punch anything and everything in the face, it was time for her to get back to Sasha and Lazarus and see what they were doing. With an embarrassed sigh, Marlene slowly gets up with a sweat drop dripping from the side of her head.

"Alright." she says seriously, yet also lightly, "I get it...

She was about to mention Nolan's fear of women... but decided against it.

"You must be stressed about what's going on." she says with an honest face, "Sorry for barging in like that. I really didn't mean to cause any harm you know? I just wanted to say hi and get to know all of you folk... then again, I kinda barged into your door a little rudely in the morning so..."

Now even Marlene was really quite ashamed of herself, as she flushes red in embarrassment, giving off a little bit of heat. However, she suddenly shakes it off and begins to slowly walk back to the other group.

"Anyways, sorry about today. Though I hope to see you again regardless... Nolan."

She gives a warm friendly, yet neutral, smile one that can be considered to be just a smile... not a guy smile... not a girl smile... just a regular neutral smile, as she quickly goes back to her group. Yes, she knows what's up with Nolan, but she overlooks that, and sees a very friendly person. And a very powerful warrior...

(Also she introduces herself to James btw)

@Caits
@YipeeXD

A minute later, Marlene reunites with both Sasha and Lazarus, still blushing from the event earlier.

"*Sigh* I'm back." she says as she sits down and does her hair, Sorry for the wait."

Mark Zerrit and Luna Cathris --- Crocus Streets to Infirmary
"Stupid Maze." Mark said for the thousandth time as the finally neared the Colosseum, his arm wrapped around Luna to help her keep her balance. "Why did you have to go to practically the farthest away place from the arena?" He looked at his company, who still looked stressed and worn out. Her only reply was to give him a long stare before continuing to walk along with him. "I mean, I have to let you off the hook because you got ten points and all, but walking you through crowds and everything was a pain." He wet his lips as he looked around at the various people around him. They were getting out of his way politely, but openly watching them, as they were both competitors.

It took a moment for Mark to realize Luna was sulking, and he reached over, gently mussing her hair. "Hey, I'm only joking around. You did great out there. That guy you fought really looked next level, I'd bet even Grant would've had a lot of trouble." He smirked a bit, but the young girl didn't meet his eyes. He sighed softly and kept walking her along. They were inside the building now, but it was still a good walk to the infirmary. He hoped that the crowds would clear out on the way there, but he doubted the world could make any promises. "And how you took the two Golems down was pretty impressive. I just hope all the damage the rock spirit she summoned isn't pinned on us. I doubt we could pay for even a tenth of that, despite how much we've been making lately." He chuckled softly.

"I don't want to talk about the fight right now Mark." Luna would finally say flatly, her tone not revealing the amount of the pain she was experiencing from the cuts, burns, and fractures in her arms. Mark just sighed his agreement as he kept walking, finally shutting up. He would've preferred that they had talked about something. He had heard somewhere that you always keep an injured people awake, and talking was a great way to do that. But he figured the next fifty steps of walking would have to do.

As the two entered the Infirmary, Mark didn't spare a glance for the individuals gathered around Amelia as he helped Luna into one of the free beds. "There you go." He smiled at her before pulling up a chair and relaxing. Luna gave him an odd look, and he spoke up in response. "Someone needs to keep you company. That and I don't trust you here alone with Phoenix Wing. They seem awfully... Ornery. Especially that Damian guy." Luna just sighed and relaxed as well, looking over at Amelia and the people gathered around her. She was only a two beds down from them, and they were practically the only groups in there.

Heisty Beardo – Frenzy Camp

@Raijinslayer

Beardo watched Argus passively and quietly, a smile playing about his lips. After the demon had said his piece, Beardo grunted in agreement, and held out his right hand, palm down. From it fell a six-inch dagger, gleaming Smith Magic steel, that dissolved into silvery dust upon hitting the ground. Evidently he'd been holding a secret weapon of his own, on the off-chance that Argus had been a foe as well. It was clear that while Beardo didn't speak the language, he didn't need a voice to exhibit his talent for sly cunning and stealthy, underhanded gambits. He winked at Argus and pointed toward the area that Zander had indicated earlier, which was now clear. This meant, obviously, that he wanted to go there. Beardo's next move was to reach out his own hand to shake that of Argus and seal the deal of the two as opponents.

[center]
Fleo Plector – Phoenix Wing Stands

@hatakekuro[@lmpkio@zarkuncenter]

Though Fleo offered a courteous chirp of a laugh to Enma's remark, she did not feel much more at ease. No matter how well she got to know the oni, she grudgingly expected, she'd never get over the sense of weakness that rose from his presence. To be this close to a being of destruction brought tinges of a primal fear inside her, and probably everyone else. It did not do the vast majority of minds good to be constantly exposed to a brimming presence that could crush them in an instant. As such, as Fleo looked at Enma, she was sorry to think that they would never be friends.

A familiar but unexpected voice from behind the group caused Fleo to jump. When she turned around and spotted Nolan, she reactively began to smile, grasping into the depths of her mind for a loveable new joke or tease. The expression on his face, however, combined with the weight of his words, stopped her cold. Suddenly confused and intimidated yet again, she stammered, ”Uh um, I just meant that...you'd probably have friends as fierce and serious as you...? You, uh, I mean, yikes dude, you look awful and terrifying at the same time. Eh...Nolan? You're scaring your friend.” Her eyes darted to James momentarily. As much as Fleo liked introductions, now seemed like a singularly bad time to suggest them. Did this man have poor social skills? Fleo smiled nervously. Marlene might have had the right idea, just walking away. But these people were her friends and she couldn't just leave them without checking up, right?

Nero the Genie – Crocus Street

It had taken a few moments for the sound to reach him: the sound of a distraught soul. When Nero became aware of the sound of Ayame's tears running down her face, a grieving outpouring of her compassion, and of those quiet but heart-wrenching cries, he deviated from his planned path and rushed to Ayame's side. In a whisper, ”No no no, don't cry, especially not for me.” He couldn't stand crying. When it was from a normal person, it was a sign of inner weakness. When it was someone he could be lucky enough to call a friend, it was a sign that he'd failed them. Moving quickly, he tried to wipe away the rest of the blood, even going as far to take off his stained gloves as stuff them into his pockets, as if looking alright could make everything alright. ”I'm fine. I like pain, seriously, feels good. Don't get worked up over this, bad stuff happens.”

Then Nero watched, spellbound, as the very soil began to respond to her despair. Even as she attacked Michael with the full force of the earthen hand in an unfortunate and badly judged move that would likely only escalate the situation, he couldn't help but smile. A trace of darkness now wreathed the image of the sweet little girl in his mind. She's a magician after all. Her power comes alive without her bidding when she is touched by strong feelings. Good person, bad powers, and interesting psyche. Why, she's a dark mage, just like Eve and I. He reached down, and with a pale finger no longer covered by glove, gently attempted to wipe away a tear. It was a risky move, he knew; most people wouldn't take kindly to such a personal invasion of space. But now Nero knew why his spirit was tied to Ayame's.

Michael, however, was not done. After miraculously and literally inexplicably escaping Ayame's attack, the form of an angel appeared next to him, and Nero got a bad feeling. Though not demons, genies were not on the same scale of morality as those celestial emissaries. Michael's assertions allowed him to focus elsewhere, however. What was this about having no doubt? Only a moment ago he'd declared that Gabriel deserved nothing. ”You're the nimrod here, buddy. I never even talked about the difference. I can't...you know what, I am so incredibly done with you. Being jerkwads I could deal with, but you went and made Aya cry. You're the real villains, you know.”

The next instant, a heavenly visage shimmered in front of Nero. Panicking, he attempted to reactivate the touch-activated curse he'd used to defend himself earlier, but his concept of speed paled in comparison to a being of light's. ”What!? No! His hand shot to his face as he stumbled backward. The deep gouged had healed; only light scars remained. How can I prove that they're the bad guys now? I can't get enraged and take drastic measures unless I'm the victim! ”I didn't wish for that! I don't need anyone's pity! Come on, we're outta here!” It was now, beyond the shadow of a doubt, past time to leave. This time, though, he waited for Eve and Ayame to start moving with him before taking off himself.

NOLAN, ENMA, AND DALTON

Marlene's words only contributed to the growing headache that was pounding against his skull. Great, he made someone cry and now he was freaking out his friends with his rage. Christ his world had been flipped thrown upside down, his life choices insulted by someone he long since thought dead, and he seemed to have come back to some drama that must've involved Enma. He just couldn't catch a break today and it seemed like it certainly wasn't going to stop there. To top it all off he felt helpless and weak. No matter how hard he trained it seemed to him that his goal was so far away and it really did feel like he was just trying to 'play mage,' as his brother bluntly put it. There was nothing to ease his mind, only an inner turmoil that was tearing him to pieces was ever present and ever growing. In the end, he was just simply tired from all the drama that seemed to be taking part in his story. It was like a series of events that were trying to drive him to his breaking point and then past that for no purpose other than to make him miserable.

Enma slapped the back of Nolan's head and said with a low growl, "Quit being a god damn emo. I don't even care if you don't tell us, just stop being such a brat or else...I'll tell everyone your little secret. A huge devilish grin spread across his face while Nolan's face seemed to had turned white as a sheet.

"You wouldn't dare..."

"Oh but I will and gladly twinkle toes. Now cheer up, be nice to Fleo, and enjoy the damn games. That Maddox guy from your guild is fighting so root for him dumb ass." The oni chuckled mischievously.

From Nolan's broken concentration the band of light broke free and he gave Jame's a glare while rubbing the swollen bruise. "Ya have some crappy timin. Ya know that right?"

Argus Leandros

Argus smiled as he saw the man's hidden weapon, having a feeling that they were going to get along swimmingly. Nothing says friendship like holding each other at knife point. After the deal had beened sealed, Arhus waved good-bye to Ceclia, a confident grin on his face that was broken by a flash of inspiration as he turned to speak to the woman.

"Hey Cecilia, let's make a little wager, yeah? If I beat Heisty on my first try, you'll let me take you on a dinner date. If I lose, I'll have to do whatever you say on the day of your choosing for 24 hours. Sounds like a win-win situation for both of us, cause either wsy, we'll probably get to spend some quality time together. So, you interested?" Argus held out his hand invitingly to the fair maiden. Whether she accepted or declined, Argus woukd then make his way over to the arena, quickly requipping a plain-looking bastard sword to his hand with a snap of his fingers. It was normal in every sense of the word, but it was undoubtly sharp and effective, a good weapon if a bit underwhelming when compared to what requip mages usually brought to the playing field.

Once in position, he'd take a stance across from his opponent, eyes narrowed in focus as he grinned in devilish anticipation. He didn't say anything to his seemingly mute foe, only making a small 'come here' gesture with his free hand. He wouldn't be the one to initiate combat . . . not yet, anyway. He was determined to get it on the first try, so he would play the waiting game for a bit to see what other tricks the hairy mute had up his sleeves.

Tidius turned to Ariel, frowning at what was happening. He raised an eye brow,and studying it for a moment. He approached, deciding he liked the strange girl better then this...woman. "well. Can you please let Ariel go? I'd rather not lose my subject to a woman who looks like a snake" he said quite politely, not approaching any further but still appearing slightly threatening as he considered danger towards his subject.

master Jamie
@zarkun@joshua Tamashii
Master Jamie sighed wearily, looking to Damian "and this is our guilds matter. As I said, if two guild masters were missing from the games people might figure that was suspicious, as well as If too many members from different guilds were missing too. You can't just look at half the picture, Damian" she said tiredly, "there's lots of magics out there, and we have access to lacrimas that can help isolate scent" while Jamie didn't particularly feel like another round with Jarvis at the moment, he would do so to save a member.

"it's either that, or bring in Melina"

sasha
@lmpkio@yipeeXD
Sasha looked over as Marlene rejoined them, giving the new member a smile and saying "it's okay, but what was gay about?" she asked curiously, "oh. The first battle has started, and Maddox, another member, is fighting." she said to Marlene, just in case she didn't know about all the members in the guild.

michael

Michael hide a smirk, bowing his head he said, "ah. I see." to himself. Nero liked being the victim. That way he could put the blame on someone else for his own failings. He sighed, looking back to Gabriel. what am I meant to do with you, Gabriel? Michael knew that Gabriel felt responsibly for him, but he also knew that Gabriel had taken their parents sending them away harder then Michael had.

Michael wondered if he should go and talk with Frenzy plant, but figured that would make it worse. So he just sighed and waited for Gabriel to return to normal. He shifted worriedly, looking about just in case someone was going to come along and freak out. He settled back, thinking. Maybe Nero couldn't turn his curses back. That seemed more likely then him being pathetic enough to actually think this was right, was just. A shove definitely didn't deserve this sort of retaliation.

Michael watched Gabriel until the curse wore off, letting out a soft brief of relief. "Gabriel" he said softly, "are you okay?"

Gabriel blinked, looking about him, seeing it was just them. "demented bloody stupid monkey" he muttered under his breath, jumping up as Rat approached, hugging his spirit relieved that he was alright. Michael watched the scene for a moment, "Gabriel, we need to talk. You can't keep getting into these situations, you've going to get seriously hurt" he started but didn't get much further, before Gabriel pretty much burst apart.

"jeez I don't need a lecture from you, Micky! I don't need to be told what I need to do from you! I'm fine, can't we just leave it at that! I don't need you to look after m and I don't need any help! Jeez Micky you can't even talk to people without stuttering, you have more issues then me!" at once Gabriel knew he had gone too far.

Michael bowed his head, his hands digging into his legs as he tried not to freak out. He rose slowly, pushing Uriel away when he offered some help. He looked at Gabriel, just briefly, before looking away. "at least I know my issues, Gabriel and am willing to face them and try to make myself better. At least I'm not afraid to try. I've been trying. I have friends. And I can talk without stuttering now. Most of the time. I'm still working on it. But you? It's clear you haven't changed, Gabriel. I can't keep on going through this, wondering if I won't be fast enough each time. If you won't change for you, then do it for me. I don't want to find you dead from your own stupidity" michEl swallowed his voice breaking, and looking back to Gabriel.

"work harder to be apart of your guild. It's a wonderful feeling, belonging. I should get back" he whispered, unable to keep the hurt out his voice, and unable to stay there, Michael darted away, ignoring Gabriels calls.

Michael didn't know where he was going. He just knew he needed to get away, needed to put distance between them, between the one person he ever thought would hurt him like that.

He was back at the arena before he even knew where he was, his vision blurring and he stumbled at the steps to the seating, falling and scraping his hands, looking up and pushing his hands against his eyes to try and clear his vision. He wanted a friend, and he scanned the crowd for Zephyr, forgetting where they had been, beginning to shake.

maddox vs grant battle part 3

Despite the speed and power of Maddox's martial art, Grant was able to not only survive the rapid combination of attacks but avoid most of the damage through clever blocks and parries. To make matters worse, Maddox could feel an unusual amount of fatigue and damage coming from this attack. Something isn't right about this guy, he considered, narrowly dodging the palm strike that Grant sent out in retribution. But as he prepared another attack of his own, Grant sneaked another attempt at his "Link Bodies" spell past. Maddox's face showed visible concern, having been exploited in such a way. Any other person would fail to avoid the spell from the speed and proximity. But now Maddox was forced to use his magic.

The red-haired mage disappeared just before the spell could connect, instantly reappearing behind Grant several meters away. His Blink magic was finally demonstrated, but probably somewhat expected if Grant had heard anything about Maddox prior. It's not that he's particularly fast, Maddox thought to himself, turning to face Grant again. But he can read my movements like an open book. He can anticipate my attacks. He doesn't need to keep up with my speed if he knows what I'm going to do. His perception is much faster than anyone else I've ever faced. After examining his left hand, which felt slightly sore from the exchange earlier, he looked back to Grant. "I know of a Melina, yes," Maddox spoke, before assuming his stance again. "Blood Magic. Though you haven't hardly started using that yet."

And I don't intend to let you.
As compared to his earlier attacks that were used without magic, Maddox decided to crank things up a notch. He can't anticipate my attack if he can't see it coming. The red-haired mage vanished again, teleporting directly above Grant with his left leg already coiled back. A normal person would turn around, assuming the teleporting man's location to be directly behind. By being above him, Maddox was able to aim a powerful kick to the base of Grant's neck regardless of which way he was facing, unless he were to look up. Time for lights out.

Grant nodded as he turned to face Maddox, who had disappeared just before he had landed the blow that would've made the rest of the battle go smoothly for him. "Yes, that's indeed the Melina. My dear older sister." He gripped his hands, holding them to his chest, and he changed his voice to sound 'sweet'. He scoffed at the statement, and muttered something before turning his attention back to Maddox just before he disappeared again. The world went into the familiar 'phase' as it did for Grants usual precognition. However, due to the limit of his eyesight, he couldn't see Maddox anymore. The potential future him began turning around, before a powerful blow landed at the base of his neck. That wasn't good, Grant had no real clue as to where the attack came from. He did his best to make the Precognition to continue for as long as possible as he tried to figure out what to do, but he ended up face-down, which was no help at all.

When the world began its reverse back towards the present, he still had no idea where Maddox was striking, so he decided on something different. He made a slashing motion with his right hand once he was back in control, this was his only chance to stop the attack without showing a weakness. "Blood Patriarch!" Armor rapidly grew across his body from his right hand, and Grant shifted in such a way so that, while the blow from Maddox still landed, it would send Grant tumbling sideways as well. It was his magic that was all that kept him from being knocked out. His armor had only just gotten there before Maddox, but his head was still spinning.

Grant gave himself only a moment to recover before standing up, a pole-arm forming in his hand, which he leaned on slightly. "I'll give you that that almost worked. Almost." He straightened himself and spun his weapon. On one side it was a scythe, and the other side was pointed like a spear. He rested it at his back, where he could get a good bit of momentum to attack in front of him with, his other hand free. His armor seemed to be one solid mass, instead of many plates, but he seemed to be able to move it with no problem, and it covered everything but his head. "Good thing it didn't, or it would b a pretty anticlimactic end, wouldn't it?" He smiled, and readied himself for the next exchange of blows, seeing his Guild cheering their hearts out out of the corner of his eyes. He was going to have to keep aware of his surroundings from here on out. Couldn't let Maddox get the drop on him again, but his new armor should protect him against most attacks, though he was sure the weapon wasn't going to work.

The man was quick thinking, creating a suit of armor from his Blood Magic to defend against Maddox's surprise attack. Once the kick connected he bounced away, landing in a crouched position several meters away. So he definitely can use Melina's magic, Maddox affirmed, taking a moment to observe Grant as he prepared his weapon and armor. He was capable of staying up from it, so its defensive properties are notable. He stood back up again, retaking his original martial arts stance. The weapon he had looked dangerous, but Maddox was confident that he could avoid the business ends of it fairly well. The danger this guy was presenting came from his intelligence, not his weapons. And of course his Link Bodies magic was still an unknown factor.

Judging by the fatigue of the battle so far, it seemed that Grant was able to project some of his damage onto the attacker. If Link Bodies was anything like it sounded, it would mean that Maddox would basically be knocking himself out in order to defeat Grant. "Anticlimactic end?" Maddox questioned, not loosening his stance in the least. "To be honest, you are quite skilled. Forcing me to use my magic isn't a small feat, despite how simple it may seem to those watching us." Maddox grinned slightly before charging forward. After taking two steps he began teleporting, reappearing somewhat closer to Grant but somewhat further to the side. In a rapid succession of teleports, taking a zig-zagging motion to confuse his foe, Maddox finally appeared directly in Grant's personal space, crouched low and delivering an upward palm strike to the man's unprotected chin. The constant teleporting was intended to throw off Grant's predictions, but Maddox still wasn't sure how the man was able to have such accurate foresight in the first place.

Grant smiled a bit as Maddox spoke, and he chuckled softly. "Forcing you to use your magic certainly seemed like a small feat from this point of view too. But I guess I should take this seriously now, don't I?" Grants finally let his smile fade from his face. He was clearly not watching Maddox directly, and he rested his weapon upright besides him as Maddox teleported back and forth. It was clear he was trying to confuse Grant, but his precognition, as well as intuition, would keep it from doing so. When Maddox finally attacked, Grant's precognition warned him, and he moved his arm in the way of the attack. Maddox's hand would strike Grant's arm, at which point Grant would leap backwards away from his attacker, and Maddox would undoubtedly notice that Grant's armor would've left blood on his hand. "Hmm, now I think I'll have to agree with fastest man alive. Sadly, being fast doesn't mean unstoppable, just means it takes a whole lotta force. Or a good solid wall." Grant would chuckle, but he was ready for the next exchange, playing this defensively until he was sure he could win on the attack.

Damian Gerard|Arena Halls

"Then we don't need two guild masters to be missing, but it's not like it's uncommon for guild masters to attend to other business during the Games. In any case, I can work with Master Fraquar's guild member to get this done quickly and discretely, much faster than wandering around with a lacrima and one of our Dragon Slayers. Besides which, Melina is their end goal, their guild master as much as told me when I confronted him about Mithera. We bring her into this and we're handing them what they want." Damian looked around, making sure no one paid the scene any extra attention.

"Look, I know what I'm doing. This isn't my first Search and Rescue and from my previous experience, using outside help can be less attention grabbing than more of us disappearing from the stands."

Ariel
@Caits
The snake woman's eyes drifted from her pray to Tidius. There was a brief twinge of confusion that Ariel picked up on. "That's right Cassandra, he can see you. You're real now thanks to me. So how about you let me go so we can discuss terms." Shifting slightly she attempted to get a better look at her captor.

This was certainly a first. Ariel usually wasn't this confident. Smiling wickedly the woman ran two claws across Ariel's face, drawing blood from the cuts. "I see you've become more bold. But if I'm real then I don't need you then do I?" This woman clearly was not altogether. Though if she was similarly like the first then she likely was from the dark woman's imagination.

Smirking Ariel stared down her opponent. "You do if you want to stay that way. In case you haven't noticed you're a spirit now. And I was the one that summoned you. So if you want to stay in this world at all then you need me to do it." After a few tense moments the snake woman loosened her grip. This girl always had somee upper hand even when she didn't realize it. The fact that it was clear now made things more difficult.

Master Fraquar Alinstar

@Caits @Zarkun

"Put aside your damn pride Jamie, unless you want to never see the members of your guild again. If they've been taken, there's no garentee of their safety, even if you know the motives of those who took them." Fraquar said, crossing him arms and looking over at the Phoenix Wing Guild Master, clearly annoyed."I am going to give you my guild's help, even if you do not want it. Better that way then knowing that your members might die due to your damnable pride. Least your S-class mage here has some sense and is looking at more then half the picture, even if you think he isn't."

Turning around, Fraquar pulled out one of those new communication lacrima that looked like a phone and dialed a number before walking away and talking to whoever was on the other end of the line.

Jack, the Maiden of the Mist

@Oblivion666 @Zarkun

Jack thought about Zephyr's request for a few seconds.
"Not today. But I feel you'll keep asking so..." She said before acting as quick as a viper. She grabbed Zephyr's arm, flipped him over her and onto the ground before dislocating his shoulder, elbow, and wrist in one swift motion."If I were to take you seriously, you might end up with worse then this. You might want to reconsider your challenge until your stronger or have better machines at your command."

With another swift movement, Jack put Zephyr's arm back in place before letting him go and turning back to the match, not realizing she might have gone too far.

Amelia Averyonna

@Caits

"Maybe. Phlegethon was rather vague on the price. He said it was the same but different for all of them, but that it would likely be a one time thing." Amelia said to Jarvis, thinking before smiling."Oh well, it's no big deal. I can put up with a little pain."

Ferrin and Valak

After awhile, Valak returned with some food and drinks. They sat and partook as the announcer gave the recap of the last part and call out the two for the first one on one duel. The fight was excellent, each living up to the reputation of their respective guilds. Suddenly, Ferrin remembered something. He felt like smacking himself in the head. Of course, I forgot about that strange creature from earlier. He rummaged in his pocket and came out with the compass and the fur. The spell has faded by now, but it should still work. Ferrin thought. He got up and made his way to the stair. "Where?" Valak asked him quietly, barely heard over the crowd. Ferrin hesitated. "There was something I need to find." He said. Valak stood up. He set his determined eyes on Ferrin. "Coming." He stated. "It could be dangerous." Ferrin cautioned. Valak gave a small smile. "Danger?" He said, his tone making it into a question, asking what is that. "Alright, if you plan to join a guild, I suppose you have magic of your own. Come on then." Ferrin and Valak made their way out of the stadium and searching for somewhere quiet. By chance they passed three wizards discussing something in hushed, urgent tones. Valak gave them a curious glance as they walked by. @Caits @Joshua Tamashii @Zarkun

Soon they were out of the arena. Ferrin cast his tracking spell as Valak looked on, impressed. He triangulated and they were off again. The compass only pointed straight at the source, so they weaved a strange route, often backtracking when they ran into dead ends. Eventualy, they ended up in front of a familiar building. "This is it. I had to stop here before because of the maze." He looked to his companion. "Ready?" He asked. Valak shook his head and held up one finger. He closed his eyes and piece by piece he slowly requiped his Dark Raven armor. The whole process took nearly two minutes. When he was finished, Ferrin whistled. "That is some nice looking armor." He said. Valak nodded thanks. "Lets go then." Ferrin said.

Zephyr Hardt

His expression saddened a bit before taking a curious one wonder what she was going to do. Then it was shock when his arm was grabbed, him flipped over her and on the ground and his arm in pain due to being dislocated in three places. He bit his lip to keep the pained sounds from escaping as she lectured him on how he needed to be stronger or have better machines. She would then put his arm back together and return to watching the match. Zephyr stared at his arm before grinning. "Damn you really are strong. It just makes me wanna fight you even more, but I'll hold back on challenging you for now. Although now I have a different kind of request, can you teach me to fight like that? The way you just flipped me like it was nothing was incredible! I'll stop annoying you if you say yes." Zephyr said, although they both knew that him not annoying anyone was out of the question, it was just who he was.

master Jamie

Jamie narrowed her eyes, clearly not in a good mood. He took a deep breath before saying "I put you in charge of finding Trintiy. I was hoping that Mithera was hidden somewhere, but that Hope is gone. I'm searching for her, Damian, and I know what I am doing. It's my fault they got her, and forgive me for not wanting to have another guild involved in this. This has nothing to do with their history, I'd say the same about any other guild. Apart from anything else, we have an image to uphold and what do you think people would think of word got out that we can't even protect our own members?" Jamie said softly to Damian, ignoring Fraquar.

Gritting her teeth at Fraquarsmcomment though, it took a lot of effort to not hit the other guild master. "this isn't about pride, Fraquar! If I let word get out that I can't stop bad things happening to my members, then they'll be in danger! And I've put them in enough danger. Beyond that, I don't want anyone else in this because this is my fault, and I will fix it."

Jamie walked away, her stride fast and annoyed. Beyond anything else, Jamie was sure that this would turn into a mess and she didn't want any other guilds in trouble. Besides, Jamie worked better alone. Or with Jarvis. Which wasn't an option right now.

And that was the problem, wasn't it?

tidius

Tidius gave a laugh, approaching closer to Ariel and this woman, Cassandra. Curious, Tidius carefully manuevered between the two females, not wishing any harm to come to Ariel. "just who are you, Cassandra? You seem quite...unstable" he said carefully, aware that the small amount of magical ability he had wouldn't be enough to keep this spirit in line.

jarvis

Jarvis nodded, although he wished that wasn't true. A child shouldn't have to deal with pain, but he didn't say that. "Well, is he one of the spirits in that book you have been trying to read?" he asked, wondering how, apart from the spirit itself, she knew this.

Dornae Namari

Theme I/|\Theme II/|\Theme III
@Crimson Raven

Their fight was interesting, its progression odd, but nonetheless entertaining to watch. To think that this many mages in one place would have been considered a threat to national security just seven years ago amazed him when his eyes scanned over this place. Glancing to where the competing Guilds were seated, Dornae made several mental notes, but as he did so he noticed someone return and then begin to have a conversation in front of him. While there were of course other conversations around him, not to mention cheering here and there, this one was...odd.

"Where?" one of the two asked as the other man rose from his seat, then hesitated in reaction. "There was something I need to find," he replied. His companion rose to his feet. There was determination in his eyes, "Coming." For a moment they were silent, then the first who had rose spoke, "It could be dangerous." At this comment, Dornae's eyebrow raised, before lowering, his eyes narrowing slightly.

As the two made their way out of the stadium, he rose from his seat and approached the same exit they had just disappeared into. Glancing back at the battle in the stadium, he shook his head and swore under his breath.

He was too curious for his own good.

Heading out of the stadium, trailing the two in an inconspicuous fashion, Dornae made himself a part of the crowd, his body language unassuming, and his eyes randomly roving about as if he weren't watching the two and listening in on their conversation. It came to him that he'd probably be thought an enemy or a spy...or a creep, if they knew what he was doing.

The two stopped vefore a building and the more talkative of the two spoke, "This is it. I had to stop here before because of the maze." He looked to the quieter of the two, "Ready?".

He missed the response, and headshake, as a small crowd passed between his position and theirs. Frowning slightly he changed positions, but by the time he regained line of sight, the quieter one had donned some rather impressive looking black armor. Requip magic, his mind told him. He could even feel the magic's recent use, as he had the use of magic that the other man had used.

As if mirroring one of his thoughts on the armor's craftsmanship, the talkative one commented,"That is some nice looking armor." Dornae felt himself smile slightly, but only for a moment before he glanced around. The man nodded his thanks and then, after a brief comment, the leader of the two kicked the door of the building open and entered, the structure closing behind them.

Dornae wasn't sure what he wanted to do though, as they were clearly prepared for some mischief of a sort. It was notable that both had appeared to possess their own forms of magic, and one had donned armor so it was reasonable to assume that they'd be fighting.

Who they were fighting, or why they were doing it were mysteries to him however, and that made for difficult decision making. Betraying his anxiousness, his hand had been playing with the edge of his belt, every so often brushing against his hunting knife. A long 10 seconds passed and then he gave in, extracted his Grandfather's dagger from its place on his pack, and strode forward hoping that he wouldn't have to draw Othisi before the end of this.

The first thing he did was set to work on the wall of the building the two had gone into. As his magic channeled through the dagger he carved several runes into the stone wall, the weapon sheering through the material's surface as if it were butter. As he neared the halfway point he began to hum. Only seconds later he finished carving the set of runes into the surface and the moment he did he finished the humming and began supplying them with magical energy.

He closed his eyes and felt the thrum of energy enter the rune system, and then immediately begin dispersing in an atom thin layer over the surfaces of the building's first floor. The energy, not thick enough to be visible, covered the floor, walls, and ceiling of the building.

After 30 seconds, the entire process having taken 40, Dornae removed his palm from over the rune system and surveyed his work. To anyone who couldn't visualize magical energy or, conversely, sense incredibly minute amounts of it, there would be no noticeable change. However, if they had tried to break down the walls, ceiling, or floor of the building they would find it as unyielding as iron, but only if magic was in play. The material would not be resistant to anything except for magical influence, and the process was temporary. At most the runes would last about 15 minutes, but they were more likely to last around 8 or 5.

The other effect he had applied to the building was one of “locking.” Any user of exceptional magical ability could not exit, but anyone with none could. Plus people—beyond himself as he'd added that exception by using his own energy—could not enter the building. This would mean that anyone that was likely to be innocent could flee, whereas others who might otherwise enter the premises and get hurt, couldn't.

This would mean he'd managed to reduce property damage to 0 when it came to the building itself. Unfortunately applying the same enhancement onto any furniture or belongings therein would be...too difficult. They weren't connected to the building, and so he would have had to apply totally seperate enchantments to them. The only other way to do it otherwise would be to define everything in the space without magical energy as “protected,” but that would have taken more energy than it was worth and it would have been suspiscious as well.

Smiling a bit at his work he took in a deep breath and then picked up a rock. He carved tiny runes into the pebble's surface. His dextrous hands, and deft movements, meant it only took several seconds. He did this a few times to 7 other pebbles, and then held them in his right hand, switching his dagger to his left. It was a good thing he was ambidextrous.

"This better not get me in trouble," thought the enchanter as he finished accessing what he'd done. He then strode into the building, and felt the door be layered with the rune's enchantment as it closed. Hopefully the scene that he saw was not one of great worry, but he doubted that he'd be that lucky.

He never was.
