People who constantly want to know everything that is going to happen and unfold in an RP. I understand sometimes needing clarification but when you are constantly poking the Gm about who dies, who lives, what happens, why so and so did that you aren't doing yourself or anyone else any favors. I mean seriously. What is the point of knowing everything? One it ruins the build up and excitement of the reveal. Two, how in the world are you going to keep from metagaming your ass off if you know everything. (I have yet to meet a single Rper in the long history of my RP career that can keep from metagaming 100% of the time. Why open yourself to that?) And three - things are usually not set in stone, what you do affects the RP - so what you may learn today might not mean a damn tomorrow in RP.

It just irks the hell out of me. If I have to answer - No Spoilers - chances are I am really hoping LLA shoves a pineapple up your characters rear end at that point. Seriously, be like Elsa and let that shit go.

@Lady Amalthea I actually made a rule forbidding people from talking in the OOC about anything that could spoil the experience. But I think the fact that it hasn't happened yet has more to do with the fact that I have awesome players than a cool rule.

Case Study #1: My parents

Watching a movie and my parents will either a) ask questions 5 min before the big reveal, or b) see the reveal and say, "I don't get it". Point being that it sadly extends beyond roleplaying. :(

@Lady Amalthea

I think it depends on your group or what your style/direction is as a GM. With some RPs, I’ve given future plot threads out to players that would be involved with them to help further construct and develop it – I don’t give out every twist and turn, but I find collaborating with a player in the long term yields interesting results and allows you to get input from a player’s perspective.

@Inkarnate Yes, having a player or two in on certain details is fine and can be well used. (Though I have had Co-Gm's go behind my back and tell things to other players that shouldn't be brought in yet.) That is one thing but that isn't what I am talking about in the slightest.

I am speaking of people who are constantly questioning everything. "Well what happens if I go here, or do this? " types, or "Why did this NPC do that?". Trying to metagame before they even post by getting information before hand so they can change what they are doing for the outcome they have plotted out in their mind instead of seeing where the RP takes them. Or worse yet, those that have been informed that everything they need to know is either IC or in the original OOC post and then they still prod for more. Even after the Gm has constantly told them, wait and see.

With many Rps I don't run into this but in Mystery RP's I run into it constantly. They want clues to solve the puzzle without doing the work IC. For me, what's the point of joining a mystery RP just to constantly ask the Gm for solution on page 1 of the RP.

Ah, the old GM idiom of puzzles. Give your player's a simple puzzle and they will come up with the most inane, convoluted, and absurd way to solve it -- but yeah, I see where you're coming from. In a horror/suspense joint I would not give any information. Player initiative and creative thinking or something.

@Lady Amalthea To be fair, we (my RP group) did decide that during the court trials in my RP that there could be some light discussion in the OOC so that the 10+ characters aren't talking in circles. They are going to have to figure out everything on their own, but reading the IC is basically going to be a less convoluted version of the OOC discussion. That's not to say the characters IC aren't going to screw up, but I realized that some of my players were a LOT smarter than their characters, and this allows them to actually participate in the case despite their character's mental handicap.

@BrokenPromise Yeahc, what I did there was for mystery RP's the players got to solve the "case" - so everything that was posted they could draw from, even if their characters were not part of a particular scene that gave them the in game information. Then the solution was revealed in RP as long as all the clues had been revealed at one point or another. We did this in Darker Than Black and it worked wonderfully. The person that solved the first chapter was not part of many scenes IC, their character being elsewhere, but it allowed us to move forward even if the characters that were there didn't exactly get it. Made for a good and well played story line, which has been continued to Chapter 2 and is about to be moved to chapter 3.

I mean,I'm like that sometimes. if it's something like D&D with different classes then I'd understand because people,atleast the ones I know,they could be pretty indecisive as to what class they'd like to play. Peoples minds constantly change, or they may just say they're interested and not have a clear idea of their characters. I could be misinterpreting this wrong,of course.

Yeah, I'm in an Rp like that. It specifically says demi-God but one wanted to play demi-Titan(predecessors of Gods) and the OKAY was given. Then comes another one who wants to be a demi-primordial God(predecessors of Titans) and I was like, why not go the full way?
So I became the son of Chaos, the first Primordial where everything began.
