I am interested in seeing how Laurie develops and how many she can get on with and become friends, I think Sarina is sceptical mainly from not understanding the delay in Laurie's gene and the power she possess's.

Well, it depends on the continuity. In the ultimate, they are the result of a cancer cure gone wrong, so they would count as mutants.
