Well if we're going to discuss the definition of shadow and the need of light to create it here's the internet's definition

a dark area or shape produced by a body coming between rays of light and a surface.

You guys forgot the nighttime many lightsources.

Be it streetlights, the moon, the stars...

Trust me when I say that there is enough light for Yoshikuni to be capable of manipulating shadows. Its just that during nighttime, its harder to see the edge of the shadows. x3
