THE ROLEPLAY

Hello everyone.
To those of you who know me, yes, I am GMing another fine sci fi rp, if I do say so myself.
To those of you who don't know me, greetings and welcome.

I have several basic story concepts and a few nations of my own ready to go. However, this interest check is a little different. Most will share some plot or background in order to entice players but I'm not bothering with that. I know that fine stories, characters and settings can and will be produced when like minded individuals unite in the common goal of role playing and storytelling.

My aim in this interest check is not to attract you with a plot it's to attract you with a promise. Too often ambitious large scale nation RPs fall and crumble under their own weight, becoming bogged down in world building and neglecting actual roleplaying and storytelling.

The promise I make to anyone who joins me in this quest to have an epic time is that I will commit myself to the extent where the RP remains fluid and fun, world building and storytelling will share equal importance and have equal time dedicated to them. Any requests will be listened to, any suggestions taken on board and all I ask in return is an equal commitment.

I'm interested. A couple questions though.

How will you be setting up tech levels. the reason I ask this is that many NRP's in a future setting has fallen just due to this. Dick measuring is too common. How do you intend to solve this? I have ideas if you need some but I'm wondering what yours are.

Second question, Are you going to make a nation yourself or are you dedicated to pushing the NRP in what ever direction you have planned?

Here is how i see it. I want variance in nation sizes. We don't all have to be superpowers or all small emergents. Now I realize you are more likely concerned about tech levels; if someone starts touting their 'mega ultra drive/cannon' and claiming to be king dick. Several factors will limit this. Firstly the fact that I'm generally ok with any tech so as long as you can explain it. Space magic will be very limited, It can be as advanced as you like as long as its somewhat grounded. For now I'll put it this way; it'll be comparable to regular space opera. Nations may span systems or quadrants but galaxy hopping is not a thing for example. I have confidence in finding a group of players who are agreeable and can discuss any issues that may arise. I personally have a qualification in theoretical physics and am currently studying aerospace engineering and thus can use that to provide input.

As for how to ensure objectives are met, I'm thinking of imposing time limits. e.g. Sheets to be finished in ten days, or next post round within the forthnight etc.

I've a lot less work at the moment and this coming semester will be much smoother than last so therefore I have more time to commit to an RP :D

Sounds good. As for the time limit, I think that sounds like a good idea. Get's people to really focus if they really intend to stick with the rp.

Fair time limits would be motivating without feeling authoritarian.

So how far into the future are we? Has humanity gone beyond Sol? Earth still around?(I ask because a friend is interested in playing as Earth in such a setting, also to be a the opposite of my faction, of which I'll present below)

My faction is a Sentient Planet. Both leader and Homeworld of a race of Space Bugs that function as weapons of it's will. After wiping out it's previous native population in a long war. The planet has grown slowly insane over time. Now it feels that it must now cleanse the galaxy of civilization and technology.

Earth exists if somebody writes for it. It exists when it is written for.

As for your faction idea: Change it up a little, you've already used the Vazri recently. I was sorely tempted to recycle the EOA again, but I'm making something new from scratch.

Well, I do intend to make them different from their previous version. And a name change of course.

Although if this is not ok with Darkmatter, there are other ideas to fall back to.

Well then, if Earth and events revolving around it are 'up for grabs', I would like to stake a claim, or at least say I am interested in playing a far-future Earth.

Pre-warning: This is a pretty 'extensive' idea which I developed ages ago but have had trouble using due to its ability to screw with other people's idea's on the usage of Earth/etc. If you dislike the idea and/or want it changed for X reasons, I can do so.

General Summary of My Idea: Asimov-inspired Machine Empire created after the Technological-Singularity on Earth. Shortly after (This is hundreds/thousands of years ago), the Singularity Wars begin, instead of being man vs machine (An incredibly one-sided battle), it is a war between pro-human machines and anti-human machines (The pro-human machines enact a global coup against all human governments before they can begin their unwinnable war). The Pro-human machines are forced to fight the Anti-human machines anyway (Ideological split concerning position and nature of man) and win a Pyrrhic victory against the others.

The Pro-Human AI form a one world order over Earth and then begin rapidly expanding outward to build a state based around their ideology.... Which comes to the present day. The robot empire is split into two parts, the Inner Sphere, comprised of humans and human-friendly machines, a (Pseudo)post-scarcity society and virtual utopia without war, disease, suffering or even death from age for humanity, ruled indirectly by (To them) godlike AI's and isolated from the rest of the galaxy within a neat and secure box designated "Safe".

The other half is the Outer Sphere. A constantly expanding 3-D border, between empty/foreign space and the Inner Sphere is the space inhabited by 99% of the "Hegemony of the Three Laws/Three Law Hegemony/Human Prosperity Sphere", entirely synthetic and constantly at work mining, manufacturing, storing and defending for the Inner Sphere's benefit. The massive levels of industry in the Outer Sphere fuels the Inner Sphere's (Illusion) near post-scarcity society and the Outer Sphere has the vast majority of military hardware which attacks in all directions outward, to expand the sphere, collect more resources and more potential landmass for humanity in the future (As the Outer Sphere expands, the Inner Sphere takes out earlier space of the Outer Sphere's interior).

The Three Laws Hegemony despite being a machine empire is highly sentimental, placing great value in their ideology and philosophy, which was (obviously) inspired in-universe by Asimov's works. Note that the machines are not programmed as such, they decided to willingly follow said ideology. They protect humans and humanity, serve them and expand their reach. The robots are fanatically pro-human to human supremacist levels, their utilitarian ideals of utopia only extend to humanity alone, as they believe since they must ensure an eternal human utopia, all competing consumers of resources and space (No matter how vast the galaxy and universe is) must eventually be destroyed, a year or forty billion from now.
