Fun fact: Lovedaia, Lufu and Marden are all female Medieval names. Lufu means love, hence why it is short for Lovedaia.

X.X So many Pythomancers... Who knew that would be the most popular discipline? It's not even really magic!

Yeah, I noticed that as well. Tis the reason I specified that he "dabbles" in it. He took the study upon himself because it was a recommendation, mainly because he is the owner of such a rare creature. I'll post it in the extra info tomorrow. His main focus is insorcery, of course.

I know a lot times when I did DnD campaigns, people liked to play Beast Tamers/Hunters... -shrugs- I guess people like the idea of animal companions. I know I do. Though, I kept my fairly ordinary and yeah.

In my boyfriend RPG, Crimson Skies, my character had a lion. Like... a huge ass lion. and in the group, there was a hunter who wanted nothing more than to shoot the living daylights out of her lion.

It is probably a good thing, it would give most of characters a class together.

I just noticed my pythomantic doesn't have a badass animal...I'll have to fix that(:< Are dragons allowed? Oooh, no, kitsune! Or...or ummmm... a baku. A baku would be badass. But I like dragons, but I feel like that wouldn't be allowed. Idk. SOMEONE HELP ME DX

For some reason, she feels French, why not give her something based on French mythology, or if you really want something like dragon but not as overpowered as a dragon there is always wyrms, which still might be pushing it.

For me, at least, the thing to remember is that there needs to be some kind of justification. Just saying "she has a dragon because she does, shut up" is a little weak (not that you would say that exactly). For example, my character went into Pythomancy specifically to learn how to tame and care for a beast intelligent enough and intimidating enough to protect her from her many and varied paranoid phobias.

She sold out her services as a freelance medium, even when she was young, and finally, after years of searching, one of her contacts (a friend of the family) heard about someone selling the eggs of a Griffin. It had gone crazy and turned murderous, forcing the local knights to put it down. Since it's very rare to find such intact, living Griffin eggs, the Academy helped Ren (my character) to pay for one, on the condition that she would raise it at the Academy and allow its development to be studied by their Pythomancers.

By the time of the RP, it's about five years old and quite large, more than enough to make your average street toughs or vengeful clients think twice about taking advantage of her... So, she has a powerful Griffin companion, but he serves a very distinct purpose in her life, making her feel much more secure in herself among other people. I mean, at the very least it makes a better story than just doing it because it's cool.

Considering the fact that all of our chars are relatively young, and usually even newborn dragons require years upon years of training to tame. Leo has a good idea for going with something on a smaller scale. At the moment, the current noted animals are a horse, a griffin and a small bird with magical qualities.

Well, if I am allowed I plan on my character to have several will-o-wisps (2-4 not certain yet, probably three) as gifts from the Fae who took him in. And I can't have Will-o-wisps for whatever reason, I am thinking about having a pegusus since I image it would be a relatively easy to get magical creature and I like pegusi, blame Hercules.

Honestly, the reason for her having a magical animal is to study it. Lufu is not good at magic, she sucks at it, and the only thing she excels in is pythomancy hence why that's what she's studying. Besides, she's the type of person who would go out of her way to get something cool, so it's sticking to character. but mainly I want her to experience something that's out of her norm to give her exposure to life. Like, y'know, learning about raising things and taking responsibility for once.

As someone said about French mythology, I was thinking maybe she befriends Bugul Noz which is something akin to a fairy. He is someone who suffers a lot and it would offer a lot of exposure for her. But if I do this, I want it to happen during the course of the RP, not right off the bat.

Or, going with the dragon-theme, she could get a European dragon.

However, whatever I choose will happen over the course of the RP and not right now, because I want to develop her character through attaining a mythological animal

Komamisa, one of the members who expressed a great deal in the Interest Check.

Just curious, but theoretically, it would be possible to replicate a great deal of Elemental Outsorcery with Automancy right? Would direct manipulation of fire be out due to it being energy? Or should I stop trying to apply science?

Komamisa (she hasn't posted here yet) and I were planning to discuss and possibly blend our character backgrounds, as Ren's abilities as an Ouramancer and her character's demon problems tie in nicely... Except, she hasn't been able to talk since I first sent her the PM. She's been focused on other things. Until we can have our discussion, I'm a little stuck.

:) I shouldn't complain, though. I can be patient, and it hasn't even been a full day since then.

EDIT: Automancy is the manipulation of non-organic structures; that's the key word. Stones, crystals (even ice, I'm sure, though you cannot keep it from melting without Outsorcery), metals, things that are neither living nor energetic.

How I see is that fire manipulation is not a outsocery or automancy thing, it is a karma thing, however a outsocercer would probably use more wholesale elemental manipulation like fire balls or streams of fire from there hands to dispelling the fire. Where as an automancer would either make a fire elemental and use that or create a fire and control that single piece of fire. A structure doesn't have to be solid.

...yes. Yes it does. That's what makes it a structure. Outsorcerors cannot control or manipulate structures, as they are focused on energy, and Automancers cannot control or manipulate energy, as they are focused on structures. If a magestrava has experience with both disciplines, she/he can manipulate both, but they are quite separate.

Woah . . . whaddi miss? :) What's with the Pythomancers around here? xD

Anyway:

Leotamer said Also, Hanged, I am not entirely sold on your idea though will use it if I need to, would the Fae in your world be vain/ego-driven (maybe not all of them, but a group of them) , and is it possible that one of would adopt my character less to use him, but more so as 1. "Look at me, I adopted an orphan aren't I just the best." and 2. "Look at me, " I adopted a wizard who can do cool things." I don't really know why I have such a pessimistic view of fairies, but for some reason I do.

I'm good with following option one. Fae are good from our perspective, but they aren't necessarily thinking along the same lines as we are.

Shifter_Master said When I get back to my computer I can edit my post, not going to try and edit it on my phone, but the one that Hanged posted up in the accepted section is beyond mt power

Just edit the original post and I'll take it from there :)

Apokalipse said Lovedaia “Lufu” Marden

I like the character (putting aside the fact that any character that likes to make trouble is interesting . . .) but a few questions first:
1. Is this her first year here?
2. Why only choose to study Pythomancy, when she wanted to study magic her whole life? Sure, she sucks at it, but there are plenty of branches and sub-branches she can study.

Apokalipse said I just noticed my pythomantic doesn't have a badass animal...I'll have to fix that(:< Are dragons allowed? Oooh, no, kitsune! Or...or ummmm... a baku. A baku would be badass. But I like dragons, but I feel like that wouldn't be allowed. Idk. SOMEONE HELP ME DX

Sorry, no Kitsune and Baku - reason being is that this isn't the region for it. As for dragons . . . well, in truth, even taming a baby dragon is difficult for graduated students. Dragons are intelligent enough to talk and operate machinery and even write if you're patient. Rather than raising a magical beast, it's as if you're raising a child already.

Leotamer said Well, if I am allowed I plan on my character to have several will-o-wisps (2-4 not certain yet, probably three) as gifts from the Fae who took him in. Pegasus are moderately difficult to tame, but still possible while student (you're going to need to be talented though) 2 Will-o-Wisps are fine, but might I ask what you intend to do with them?

Anyway, it's nice to see you guys in discussion about the RP :) Once we have exactly six character made, I'll start the IC, is that fine?

The idea is that they would be a parting gift when he left to go the school, and that they are rather simple magical creatures that can basically cast simple light spells and simple healing spells (healing scratches and such.) Basically, they are there to look out for him.
