Hm... Anything but lancer I think. Up to you. On a different note, I've been down with the plague for the last few days which is why I've not moved us on. I should be able to post sometime next week, so please bear with me.
Name: Fina Gender: Female Age: 17 Appearance: Fina is shorter than average in height, with a slim physique and just enough curves to look good when dressed up. She also keeps her dark blue Darcsen hair waist-length usually braided in a single braid. Her bangs usually obscure her dark blue eyes whenever she's looking down (which is frankly, a lot of the time). She usually keeps a handmade shawl with Darcsen patters over her uniform. Whenever she's off duty she prefers one-piece blue dresses with a long skirt, her Darcsen shawl and a sash that matches the patterns of the shawl.
Rank: Private Class: Scout (although she can fill the Shocktrooper role in a pinch). Weapons and Equipment: Gallian S-1 Ragnaid Viper-E-9 One B-Type M1 Grenade A set of two Trench Spikes, for climbing and stabbing imps.
Personality: Fina can be likened to a kicked puppy or a deer fawn, a person with a rather skittish disposition that even struggles to make eye contact with acquaintances and apologizes compulsively. Fina is so used to discrimination as a Darcsen that she doesn't even try to fight back when treated poorly, instead making apologies and trying to make herself scarce. Beyond her crippling shyness and low self esteem, Fina does have a gentle, generous personality, and she is much more intelligent and perceptive than she lets on. She also remembers the people who make bonds with her, and the gentleness received... and woe betide who tries to harm her friends or loved ones in her presence. For every inch as apologetic and as shy fina is, she has another of steel-clad temper. Fina's hand does not tremble when it comes to fighting for her squad, and she will not relent no matter how long it takes or how difficult is the adversary. She also likes to be out of focus from the general socializing, and more than often people will fail to notice her presence, or she herself will inadvertendly sneak up on others. She is also fond of climbing and outdoor activities in general.
Bio: Fina was born to a Darcsen peddler and a flower seller, and as such she enjoyed a lot of freedom during her childhood. She however, learned all too soon to not start trouble, and always adopt a submissive and patient attitude, judging from her parents interactions with other people. Fina was bullied in school, but she didn't even try once to fight it back. Instead, she just tried to avoid her tormentors the best she could, and seek refuge outdoors. She eventually became so good at hiding and being scarce her bullies grew bored of her, and started to pick on other targets.
Fina did get good marks on school, although she preferred to spend time with her family and enjoying the peace of nature rather than any serious occupation. Her teachers did react somewhat as her stating she wanted to be a "housewife" or a "woods witch" as future career, though. As she grew up, Fina started to help both of her parents business as well as doing some babysitting for her two younger sisters. Unable to be a saleswoman due to crippling shyness, she nevertheless was rather helpful at handwork and child rearing.
And then, the Empire came to her town. Caught before they could evacuate, Fina could only watch as her parents and siblings all were separated and sent into concentration camps. It didn't matter how much she begged and apologized, they wouldn't let her family go. Or let her go with her family, as some of the soldiers had some plans to keep her as the garrison's pet servant. Fina apologized one last time, before growing silent. She then made herself scarce and unnoticed, and grabbed one of the rifles of the Imperials. Before they could react, she had already killed two of them. The remaining Imperials were felled by a timely intervention of the militia. Out of a feeling of gratitude, Fina actually signed up for the militia as well, with the hope of eventually finding her missing family.
RP Sample:
Fina kept her head lowered, her hands clasped together in front of her as some sort of apologetic bow. Her feet kept drawing circles on the ground and she was biting her lip, obviously struggling to try and get a grip of her temper and failing to do so. The street was crowded, far too crowded. She grasped tightly her basket, a fragant smell of narcissus hitting her nostrils.
"Um...flowers, does anybody...want?" She finally managed to piece together, in a rather nervous and low voice. She knew she wasn't cut for it, but she was still trying her hardest. She gritted her teeth. "FLO...wers for sale." She tried raising her voice, but she gave up halfway. She kept staring at the ground, shuffling beneath the crowd. But eventually she bumped into someone.
"Damned Darcsen filth! Watch your steps!"
An irate man's voice rang in her ears, as her basket was forcefully swatted from her arm, its contents scattering everywhere in the ground, only to be treaded upon.
"Aaah.." Fina let a small, weak wail upon seeing the flowers whom she had been entrusted being mercilessly ruined, as she struggled to get whatever was still intact back in the basket. "I'm sorry! I'm so sorry..." She was quick to put an apology as she doubled her pace picking the flowers and putting them back into the basket.
A child's cry rang into her ears. Surprised, she raised her head and managed to find the source of grief. A couple of kids were playing with a ball, which had gotten stuck on a tree. Fina quickly raised to her feet and rushed to their side. Without thinking twice, she left her basket in the ground and grasped the rough bark of the tree. Even with her skirt on, she was a deft climber, and it took her almost no effort to reach the ball. Jumping off the tree deftly, she presented the ball to the astonished boy.
"Um...your ball." Fina said before breaking eye contact rather quickly. "I'm sorry..." She finally added, back into her meek persona, her cheeks suddenly reddened upon the realization of what she had done. Grabbing her basket, she ran away from the market, not waiting to find out the young kid's reaction.
Other: Catherine butterfingers, why are you so cute? I can't kick you out of the squad!
Oh, it seems I have missed this. @Lennon79It seems you only have the VC1 classes, would it be a problem if I pick a Fencer? VC3 takes place around the same time and it has all the fancy classes in it.
I also ask this because I have a CS left over from an old RP:
Name: Kyo (his full name would be Kyo Kurogane but Darcsens aren't allowed to have surnames) Gender: Male Age: 21 Ethnicity: Darcsen/Japanese Height: 5'6" (168 cm) Weight: 84 kg Rank: Private First Class Role: Shocktrooper? (he's effectively more like a Fencer) Weapons: Kirugane, Viper-1 Pistol, Type-1 Grenades x 2, Ragnaid
Kirugane
Kyo's custom greatsword made to fit his own unique style in battle. It unites various different sword types and of course it's both large and massive. This sword is made of a high-strength tungsten alloy to make it both heavy and incredibly sturdy, the very requirements to withstand Kyo's strength. The blade is 120cm long, 10cm wide and it's shaped like a wedge with its thickest portion being 3cm. The sword has a thick slab of matter which barely recognizable as a crossguard. It serves more as a counterweight to the blade than any meaningful protection while the 36cm long handle is large enough to allow a steady hold over the weapon. Overall the sword is 166 centimeters long and weighs 60 kilograms, almost bigger and heavier than Kyo himself. The weapon is named Kirugane ("Killing Metal") which is an interesting wordplay on both the weapon's purpose and the fact Kyo was forced to part with his original Kurogane name. The weapon is a huge chunk of metal with a crude edge and Kyo often boldly proclaims that his sword can slice through everything. It's an ongoing mystery among the squad how Kyo manages to keep Kirugane sharpened. Rumors range from bashing it against rocks at night to using a secret snake oil recipe acquired from a Darcsen seer.
Bio Kyo was born in the Empire, in 1914. His father was a mercenary from the Far East and famous swordsman Kei Kurogane. His mother was a daughter of a Darcsen miner who died while giving Kyo birth. When it became clear Kyo's Darcsen heritage could not be hidden he took his son and snuck through the border to Galia, hiding in a small mountain village. During a sunny day in 1918 Kei found his sword, Kusanagi missing. After a through search he had found the tiny just four years old Kyo, failing a weapon heavier than himself around. His father was shocked but also realized Kyo's frightening potential. Though only just gradually but Kei began training his son to be a martial artist and once inherit his sword. By the age he started school Kyo also began his swordsmanship training. With his great strength it was important for Kyo to learn how to control it. Yet the accidents were unavoidable and his schoolmates were growing fearful of him. Eventually Kyo had to leave the school and his father hired a private tutor.
After reached 14 in spite of his father's objections Kyo began working to earn more money to the house. His talents made him perfectly suited for physical jobs. By this point Kyo already had the reputation as "monster child" but he didn't hate the villagers for it. In 1930 a group of Imperial soldiers unofficially broke through the border and the village of Darchten came under their raid. To defend his home Kei Kurogane threw himself into battle. In spite of the fact he haven't been in battle for over a decade Kei slain dozens of soldiers before meeting a mysterious figure wielding a katana. Kyo brandished his own sword and rushed to his father's aid. But by the time he had arrived, his father was kneeling on the ground in front of the mysterious black man. The man decapitated Kei in front of his helpless son and took Kusanagi. Kyo attempted to challenge him but the man disarmed the boy in a single move. The soldiers left, sparing the village from destruction.
The villagers blamed Kei for the soldiers' attack and forced Kyo to leave. Orphaned at the age of 16, Kyo had nothing but himself to rely on. Wandering the country Kyo realized for the first time what his mixed heritage really meant. As a half-Darcsen people were looking down on Kyo, working him to the bone for minimal wages. Meanwhile his mixed origins meant Kyo could not truly associate with the Darcsen community, neither he knew much of their traditions from his Japanese father. As the Second European War drew near Gallia required soldiers more than any other time before. Kyo took up the opportunity to join the militia, first as sapper and construction worker but after a strange course of events Kyo got the special permission to become a Shocktrooper even though his marksmanship was sub-par. In the age of firearms Kyo was determined to follow his father's footsteps. Using his earnings he forged Kirugane, a huge Japanese sword. He became an eccentric and aloof figure within his squadron with rather mixed reputation.
Hometown: According to his father Kyo was born somewhere in the outskirts of Wildhausen, within the Empire's borders. A few months later they sneak through the Gallian border and eventually settle down in a tiny village in the mountains only 12 miles away from Borger, called Drachten. Kyo spent much of his childhood in this village until his father's death. After that Kyo turned vagabond, wandering from city to city for five years until deciding to join the Gallian Militia.
Personality: Um, this character was from a FATE session so his personality and bits of his life were collected into Aspects instead. I'll be sure to recreate this profile in a proper form but for the time being let's just see what makes Kyo tick!
Kyo is the son of Kei Kurogane, last master of the Kurogane school of swordsmanship. His father trained Kyo for years but unfortunately he had died before he could pass on all his knowledge. Regardless Kyo kept practicing his skills on his own and eventually made his own sword Kirugane. Utilizing his natural gifts he's in the process of developing his own way of swordsmanship, hoping it'd make his father in Heavens proud.
Kyo's parents were the Japanese ex-Imperial mercenary Kei Kurogane and the Darcsen woman called Leana. He's proud to be the descendant of both but his mixed heritage is a constant source of friction with others. Darcsens are viewed as secondary citizens and even scorned by some people.Yet ironically his mixed blood means the Darcsen don't accept him into their community, either. Kyo joined the militia in order to prove his worth and try to reclaim his father's name.
Kyo is brash and always ready to take action. He's impulsive and occasionally even self-governing on the battlefield, making rash decisions without giving them a second thought. This is doubly true when his comrades are at danger. Kyo can occasionally even forget his own safety to rescue his squad mates.
In spite of his looks Kyo has incredible strength, the kind which could be only described as monstrous. Unfortunately Kyo never grew able to fully control this and combined with his impulsiveness this could have disastrous results. He easily could and did send people to the hospital in the moments he lost control. There are rumors that he had even killed people in the past.
Kyo suffered from frequent discrimination and lived a life in which anyone who got close to him either died or betrayed him. These experiences had a negative impact on Kyo. Even though he's an outspoken person who treasures his comrades, Kyo also makes sure to keep everyone at arms length. Kyo fears loss and betrayal thus he's having a hard time getting close to anyone.
Yeah, I'll sure fix up the profile later. First I'm only interested if I can even create a character like him.
@AtomicNut, accepted. Post her to the Char tab and post away. The squad is just getting to know a few new recruits after a briefing, so now is a good time for her to approach them. @Willy Vereb, I plan to avoid the classes from VC2/3, mainly because that sets a dodgy precedent for magical musicians, men with uberhammers and other frankly weird things that don't quite fit in on a WWII-esque battlefield. That said, I'm not against your character having a sword. Just prepare for every man and his dog to mock the living shit out of him and for it to be effectively useless anywhere but in (very) close urban combat. He will need to use a gun most of the time, or else he'll probably come up against the same problem that Japanese officers did in real life: charging bare-arsed at a man with a machine gun tends to get you dead. That said, Meulemann made it work to a degree, so I don't mind limited swordplay.
In other news, after 15 hours in hospital I feel a bit better. I'll try to post soon to prepare for the new arrivals, then my new post after that will timeskip us on to the mission.
Glad to hear you are doing somewhat better Lennon.
I'm fairly certain that by the time the group gets back from the Crossroad's mission, the news about what happened to Andrew's old company (Or at least the propaganda version of events anyway) would have gotten around. That will be interesting.
Alright then, you may have noticed a few posts from Imperial characters. These are the men and women of Squadron 655, a crack team of Imperial tankers driving experiential vehicles. They will be one of the main antagonists in LotS. I am accepting one more CS for an Imperial crewman in Beirmann's tank, probably a driver. The three CSs so far have been added to the first post in the Char tab. For the moment the Imperial side plot is just that, a side plot. In time it will link in with the main storyline, but that's some time away.
@Lennon79 Hmm, regarding Fina's clan , I never thought a lot about it, but she might be from near Fouzen... and yes I am perfectly aware of the potential fate of her family.
Sounds good. I chose clans because the canon is a bit vague on the Darcsen family system, but I'm thinking of them as similar to Scottish clans; large groups of loosely related families generally living in the same area. Harald is from a northern clan, initially from Europa's version of Denmark, hence his Scandinavian name. In any case it's mainly just fluff. I'd welcome another soldier in 655, but they are one of the most tightly controlled units in the most repressive army in the world. So no moles basically. Loyal Imps only.
