You are free to ignore this part in the future or I can fix it if you want.
I wished I could continue it further because I barely wrote Kyo actually doing something. But I'd need your reactions and input first.

Not sure about VC2. I had it on PSP and the whole thing just felt... lazy. Especially after I played VC1 on Steam (on day of release even).

VC2 is okay if you don't view it as an actual sequel to Valkyria Chronicles.
It's overall a decent game but when you compare it to the previous incarnation you can't help calling it inferior.
Plot-wise, gameplay-wise and in practically all accounts.
It did improve a lot of things compared to the previous game, but some of the new features also make the game a mess.

You might as well view VC2 as the "tech demo" for VC3.
Elements which worked out in VC2 can be also seen in VC3.
And indeed, VC3 is pretty good.

I admit, I did like the deeper class system in VC2. Never got far enough to use the swordsmen, but having five riot shields walking slowly toward the enemy was almost as good as a tiny teenage girl with a minigun.

Though do note that Valkyria Chronicles is a weird world where 20+ kg water cooled guns are practical and considered SMGs.
And then we can talk about the madness that are anti-tank mauls, even though we don't have that class here (yet?).
Compared to the latter Kyo's style and choice of weapon can be even said to be reserved.

To be fair, in this RP larger guns will be treated fairly realistically; if a later mark of SMG is too unwieldy to use on the run, then it'll have to serve as an LMG instead.

These guns are useless as LMGs, too. They are old water-cooled heavy machineguns chambered to fire way underpowered 9mm bullets and lacking bipods or any support for stable fire.
If we get down to the designs, practically anything but the early tier weapons don't make a realistic sense.
That and soldiers carry tons of armor in VC.
I say it's more reasonable to assume people in VC are tougher than in real life.
Gives you a similarly nice excuse why they can perform fancy movements during cutscenes.
Anyways, in the end you have to rely on your willing suspension of disbelief and view VC a bit like typical fantasy RPGs.

While I'm thinking about it, can someone explain to me how a tank shell doesn't just blow a Fencer to hell? I mean, the guy has to be using a shield and wearing armor made out of titanium or something. And on top of that, how does the impact and subsequent rattling of the noggin not turn their brain to mush?

True, but nevertheless.
In order to keep a good balance between anime-style physics and realism, larger weapons will be more awkward to handle. Please understand that Kyo's sword is a massive exception to what I intended to allow in this RP and I'm making concessions for his ability to wield it effectively. Other characters will have trouble with larger weapons, but nevertheless they will be functional depending on how they are used.
It's not ideal, but the alternative is going full anime and that will include a fucking panty raid.
