Dead Cruiser Dishonour Before Death / Better You Than Me

vietmyke said Thats debatable. It depends on how well you can pull off the the character... Its highly unlikely a child is going to have the power/wit/ability to control a Gargantuan- much less start a pact with one. Especially since the Gargantuans require blood pacts. So unless you murdered your whole family as a sacrifice to a Gargantuan....

To be fair, you never actually said what a "blood pact" was. My thought with this one was that the spirit was sort of the child's guardian, having been bonded to it since the character's infancy and essentially raised it. Thus leaving the conditions of the pact's formation a mystery to be explored later.

This roleplay seems very interesting. I'm inclined to play as a Spirit, so I need someone to latch onto.

@ Dead Cruiser

If you're allowed to go through with it and if you're up for it, I could be your Gargantuan.

Sorry for the confusion.. "Blood Pact" literally means a Pact signed for in blood/life force, of either yours, or another's, and typically in great amounts. - and you still need the power/ability to control it. And as for the Spirit being a sort of 'Guardian', thats essentially what my character's spirit was for him, you're probably better off in that case with a Humanoid Spirit, they're typically more intelligent and can speak languages. I do like the idea of a mysterious pact, but again, I would suggest a Humanoid Spirit.

Or somebody murdered their family to bind the gargantuan to the child - I imagine controlling a summon by proxy has certain advantages and disadvantages.

That is totally possible, though it'd probably be much easier to murder a family and bind the spirit to yourself. Gargantuans probably won't care about the source of blood, as long as they get a lot of it. I mean, Rtron's character just murdered 8 of his teammates and used their blood to bind his Gargantuan.

Gargantuans are essentially this world's version of Demi-Gods. They are going to be extremely powerful, and quite far and few between. Rtron has one for Co-Gm/plot/emergency reasons, the most powerful of spirits I would like most characters to be able to control are high-tier Humanoids Also, the only Spirits available for play are Humanoids, because they have intelligence similar to/greater than that of humans.

How exactly do Steam cartridges work in weapons? Are they pre-filled with steam, or does the steam only become created when the user fires the weapon? Also is there gunpowder, or are the weapons powered purely by magic steam? I'm asking because I'm trying to come up with a few pieces of weaponry for my character that are variants of the normal types, and what to make sure they fit in with what has already been established.

Steam Cartridges are essentially extremely powerful canisters of compressed air.The tech used to make them makes them more powerful than gunpowder, which is typically used by smaller weapons like revolvers. Revolvers and select rifles use more conventional bullets, cartridges with gunpowder charges in them, but for the most part Steam is king of firearms.

I think I'll be writing up a wandering Kusagi swordsman, then.

Is it fine if I write in stuff for the culture of Kusagi? For instance, it was my idea that the people of Kusagi worships spirits as lesser gods, enshrine them and pay homage to them. Families would have "house spirits" bound to their bloodline rather than specific individuals, with more influential families having more or more powerful house spirits.

Is it possible for spirits to be related to each other? Something I was considering for my character was to have him bound to a Gargantuan, and then several Humanoids that are the Gargantuan's "children."

Yup, you can make up whatever filler you want for Kusagi. As for spirits being related to one another.. I guess its possible. Unlikely, but possible, again its dependent on how you write it. But I will stress that again, the most powerful of spirits I would like most characters to be able to control are high-tier Humanoids. Character's with Gargantuans will be under a considerably larger amount of scrutiny from myself and Rtron

Hm. I like that idea. My character is half Kusagi, so perhaps he could have traveled over there and found his "family" spirit and bonded with it. It'd be cool. Or.. perhaps the spirit found him, if all other members of the bloodline were deceased? I dunno. What d'you guys think?

If you want to work something in between our characters, Cruiser, we could definitely do that. :)

EDIT:

Also, a question directed to our GM/Co-GM;

What exactly is the Church of Aer? Like, what do they believe in - which Gods, or God? What do they enforce? How? Is there elements of the Church all throughout the continent, from Cathedrals to small Parishes? Priests? Religious Crusaders?

I don't believe you went into it in the OP - unless you did, and I missed it, in which case I apologize.

I touched on it a bit on my character sheet. The Church of Aer is pseudo Catholicism. They believe in a single God that created the world, and it is spread over all of varisie and a majority of the Western City States. There is a sizable population in Kusagi, but the majority of Kusagi have a different religious. The Wetlands are not influenced by the church at all.

The clergy in general are not very fond of summoners and magic, and require all summoners to be registered at their local Church or Cathedral. This is enforced by their own elite group of summoners known as 'Inquisitors' who use advanced training and powerful spirits to hunt down and capture/eliminate rogue summoners(any summoner not registered in Varisie or the City States is considered rogue). Inquisitors are generally exclusively from Varisie and are distinguished by their black armor and metal masks (I will update the op momentarily).

As far as establishments, there are churches, parishes, and cathedrals all over varisie and the city states and a majority of the people from these areas at least loosely believe in Aer.

Well here we go!

Appearance:
Name:  Greta Gilsworth
Age:  20
Guild Band: Red Hawks, known for adventurers and pilots

Archtype:  Explorer and Mechanic

Backstory:
Born to mother of 'nobility' in a City-State kingdom and a Traveling Tinker Mechanic meant a rather unconventional childhood. She spent most of her time on the road with her father and his various traveling companions, who ranged from friars, troubadours, mercenaries, merchant caravans and the occasional wandering tribe (though you didn't see many of those around the city states). Her noble grandparents despised her existence and her mother was, largely indifferent on the whole matter. Her father though, was a kind man and taught her the tricks of his trade at a young age.

From her fathers companions she also learned many things and if needed acted as a stand in on many plays performed across the City States. Upon one such occasion they where all locked up for spies and nearly executed. Only saved by a pick-pocket and secreted out of the city by actual spies.

At 15 she managed to get her own cart and while still traveling with her father dealt in priceless goods that came from shady contacts all across the known continent. At 17 she paid the ultimate price for her acquisitions. Her father and herself had been traveling with a smaller group then usual. The roads where dangerous that time of year and kept most people in cities. She had heard of an excavation in the Varisie Empire to the North that had uncovered various priceless ancient artifacts, some even rumored to be ARKS of the Wall of Nothing. Eager to see for herself she convinced her father to head out. In the night the entire party was killed. All but her and that was only because she had been away from the group at the time of the attack.

This event changed her but it did not quench her love of travel and exploration but without her father as a traveling companion she would either have to make her own way or submit to her Grandfathers rule. And while her Grandfather and her mother and her new husband appreciated some of the acquisitions she had made she decided she would rather have all her teeth pulled out with rusty pliers then submit to the likes of them.

So she applied to join the Redhawks of The Guild in Meduzart.

Skills and Abilities:  Explorer with mechanical skills that she learned from her father.

Equipment:
Tinker tools (wrenches, oil cans, nuts and bolts, hammers, twine, ect.)
A spyglass crafted in Kusagi.
A modified version of the Bolt Revolver (Tinkered with by yours truly).
A dagger.

Spirits:

Simple: Fire Gecko
Appearance:
Fire Gecko

Name: Airgead Lasair (silver flame)
Age:  1300
Backstory:
Airgead Lasair (nicknamed Air) born in the forges of a volcano lost to time Airgead likes to keep company with inventors and blacksmiths. Air is also responsible for many of the Great Fires in various cities throughout the lands.
Air crossed paths with Greta mere hours after her father died in the pouring rain. They have a very simple pact.

Skills and Abilities: Starting fires and melting metals with a touch and communicates via telepathy. He grants Greta the ability to melt metals and mold them with limited supplies in exchange for precious metals and gems, which he eats and a dry place to live most of the time.

I'm still trying to come up with a concept for a Spirit character that's good enough to be sustainable as the only character I'd be playing. I would also need someone to partner up with. If you want a more in-depth connection with your spirit, I can accommodate that. Feel free to PM me.

Moreover, I was wondering, are we free to use our imagination when talking about the origins of a spirit, i.e. how he came into existence?

Same here, although since Kuro is fairly older than the others and has only been in the Guild for 5 years - it's unlikely anybody else other than perhaps Eli and Jax.
