*shrug* I'm not saying there aren't exceptions, local dub of red dwarf (comedy of all things, cracks are pain to translate to boot) was amazing, but most of the time the dubber doesn't get the emotions right and stuff. Of course then there are religious zealots who won't take any criticism of a thing they like, constructive or not, but those are mostly centered around Apple :P

You're honestly saying you think that the star-studded A-list lineup of a cast they got for this, working with good direction in an environment where the industry is both much more lucrative as a whole, the dubbing scene especially so compared to English venues, aren't measuring up to literally "people that roosterteeth know I guess" that I myself feel competitive with, with all my absolutely nothing of acting training?

That's like saying a kid who did Judo one time could beat an olympian in the sport. The gap in skill and experience is immeasurably vast, especially considering these are people proven to know what they're doing, which RT sometimes seems to have trouble claiming.

But you've only seen two minutes of the dub, in trailer form, and only heard four cast members. You're letting dub prejudice - which a lot of people do rightly have for a lot of productions - get in the way of what is, objectively, a much better voice cast than the Rooster Teeth circle. They went all out on casting this. Can you honestly say the same for the English version?

Do you honestly believe the woman who voiced Ryuko fucking Matoi, or the man who did Roy Mustang, can't nail emotions in RWBY?

Hey @HereComesTheSnow I permit friendly joshing but a contingency of similarly-themed posts is more like harassment. Plank, you can't demonize RT for not 'going all out casting this'. RWBY was a startup project of a little studio in Texas, they didn't get the luxury of nabbing the best voice actors in the business. Personally, I don't give a crap about who voices it in Japanse; it'll never be anything more than charming for me because I don't understand Japanese. If you two feel like puffing yourselves up about the superiority your opinions by jumping down someone's throat for their personal opinion (which will doubtlessly include mine now) then you can take it to PMs and have a stroke-fest there. This discussion is over.

First of all, I was talking in general terms, not these particular people. That said, even if I was, I judge individual work, so as far as 'people proven in what they're doing' go - I might like them in one show, not in the other, much like I don't like every song of a band. What is objectively better means exactly nothing to how I feel about something, I'm not a thrall of general ratings. I'd say what I think of Ryuko in particular, but I'm not feeding your flame.

So yea, I do honestly say that those two minutes didn't sit well with me, for the third time I can't put a finger on why exactly. Could be dub in general, could be just that I don't understand Japanese culture and language to the necessary extent. You don't agree - and that's fine. But why on Earth do you feel the necessity to go and try to force your opinions on me like some thought nazi is beyond me.

KLK's dub was a pleasant surprise. It was pretty good, especially when you count Sarah Williams absolutely nailing Nonon.
