Name: Aya Lynn Germain
Alias(s): Cosmos
Age: 19
Affiliations: N/A
Factions: Honestly just trying to get by
Description: Small and lithe, Aya's 5' build betrays none of her strength – she has years' worth of lean muscle hidden under her clothes, built up from doing judo. Her long hair falls down her back, straight and dark brown. She's never been one for doing much with it. Aside from the occasional ponytail or braid, she's content to just let it rest where it falls. Her eyes are a deep brown color, and fairly weak. She's supposed to wear glasses, but she often finds them too much of a hassle to put on, and dislikes the idea of contacts.
Powers: Astral Projection
Aya is capable of extending her consciousness outside of her body. Invisible to others, her spirit form is capable of passing through solid objects or going into dangerous situations or environments that she otherwise would avoid. She can also create projections of other people if she's touching them, separating their consciousness from their bodies. She has to be touching them to bring them back for the astral plane, however. If Aya snaps back to her body without touching the other person’s projection, then the person will be stuck there until she snaps to the other side again to bring them back.
Aya also has the ability to absorb a piece of a person's soul if they are both in the astral plane, killing the other person.
She’s still in the process of figuring out how her powers
work and there are likely still things that she doesn’t know about them. In the past she actively tried to avoid using them because she was so nervous about the potential consequences she could face if they were discovered, but now it's more out of habit.
Strengths: Aya can keep up her projection indefinitely, and can hear and see everything around her, making her ideal for reconnaissance missions. So long as she keeps up her concentration, she can also sustain the projection up to half a mile from her physical location. Absorbing a piece of someone else's soul gives Aya their memories and some of their skills and attitudes also.
Weaknesses: When maintaining her projection, her physical body is more or less helpless. She's still conscious, and can talk to others, but it's difficult for her to move, and she is more or less oblivious to her surroundings. Due to her projection's intangible nature, she's also unable to influence her spiritual environment or talk to anyone through it. When she absorbs someone's soul, it causes tremendous emotional and mental stress on Aya, and she gets confused about what is really her and what is not. She's thus far only used this ability once and has no interest in doing it ever again.

Brief History: Aya was just a quiet girl from Oahu before all of this. The discovery of her power had been terrifying to say the least, but keeping it hidden was an easy task. It’s not like her ability was particularly noteworthy anyway – she couldn’t breathe fire or heal herself or anything like that… thus life went on as usual for her. After graduating from high school, Aya left "the rock” for college in LA. She’s not exactly a big-city girl, but she got along fine. She kept her head down, did her studies, got a job… she was on track to graduate a year early, but then one night everything changed.
She was walking back to her apartment late in the evening from her job at the flower shop when a man attacked her. Aya isn't what someone would call defenseless. She was a blackbelt in judo, after all. But she'd never been in a situation where she'd actually had to
rely on her skills, and a mix of shock and terror muddled her senses. Perhaps that's why when she flipped the man over her back, something unplanned happened. Her powers activated. In the next moment, Aya and the man were looking down at their unconscious bodies from the astral plane.
Her eyes widened as she realized what happened. She looked up to see the man just as stupefied, his mouth opening and closing as he tried to form a response. Adrenaline still pumping through Aya's system, her mind was quick to jump to the worst possible outcome: there was no hiding that she was a meta, but luckily that title no longer came with the threat of jail time or execution. But a legal safety net wouldn't save her from this man's rage. Because he
was enraged. She was good, and strong for her size, but he was huge and pissed.
And so, just as the man finally opened his mouth to shout and took his first step towards her, Aya snapped back into her body – without him. She of course then did the reasonable thing and sprinted all the way back to her apartment, leaving her would-be attacker's empty body in the alley. For the next several weeks, Aya would slip into the astral plane to see his spirit watching her – shouting at her,
accusing her. And every time, Aya would jump back into her body the instant she saw him, shaking with fear and guilt. She couldn't just keep him there forever. But now he knew where she lived and she didn't know his name to report him and
why hadn't she thought of all this before she'd fled?Eventually, the situation was decided without her doing anything. One day she switched over to the other side to find it empty and hauntingly quiet. The man had died, and his spirit was gone.
