The fire exploded in a shower of sparks as Martin threw another wet branch into the middle of the blazing flames. For a moment he simply sat back and watched as the log sizzled and popped, the water boiling inside the branch before burning away. It was good to be back on dry land again, especially after so long at sea. He'd always hated the oceans and to feel solid ground under himself once more made him much more relaxed. Not throwing up every ten minutes helped too.

Turning his gaze away from the flames Martin let his vision slowly adapt to the gathering darkness. It was too late to set out tonight, the Siren's Call II had run into a Cetus while crossing the Waking Sea, which had delayed them for almost half a day. Even now, if he strained his hearing, the sound of sawing woods and nails being hammered told Martin that repairs were still underway, although at this point they were mostly only decorative details that needed replacing. Or at least what he thought of as decorative features, while the sailors maintained they were vital to the operation of the ship.

Around the fire the rest of the gathered Company sat warming themselves, several of them finishing off the dinner which had been provided from the Siren's provisions. Taking his time Martin let them eat, uncertain when they may get another chance to eat so well. Reaching into the pouch hanging from his waist Martin quickly packed his pipe before lighting it with one of the dwarven matches fashioned for him by their resident crafter Henrietta. Drawing the smoke into his lungs Martin let himself enjoy the flavour for a few minutes before finally rousing his party.

"The time has come to make a decision," he pronounced, "The lands south are done with us it seems, for now at least, and it's time we forged a new path." Producing a map provided by their pirate queen hostess, whose price Martin had found to be very favourable, if a little energetic for his aging bones, the old war horse lay it down on the sand, bracing the corners with rocks as he pulled his dagger from his belt.

"To the north lies Nevarra," he explained as he pointed out the capital city with the tip of his blade, knowing some of those in the Company had barely traversed Orlais, let alone the rest of Thedas, "A land of knights, honour and worshippers of the dead. Beyond that is the Tevinter Imperium, filled with power mad mages, blood magic and all manner of evils, or at least that's what the Chantry would have us believe. Personally I have a fondness for their blended liquors, so they can't be all bad."

Moving his dagger over Martin pointed to the Free Marches, waving the point over the whole region before descending on Kirkwall. "To the east of us lie the squabbling kingdoms and 'free cities' of the Marches, which are at the moment as much at war with each other as they are anyone else. And as the old mercenary tale tells us, where there's war, there's profit to be had.

"Further out is Antiva, a rich and prosperous land, filled with intrigues and assassins, with plenty of easy work to be had protecting bankers and their money from killing each each other. The work there may be in the lap of luxury, but the Crows will make sure you pay for every grape with blood and sweat."

Swinging the dagger the other way, Martin waved it vaguely over a portion of the map, before moving it north. "To the west we have Orlais, with their masks, hidden smiles and 'Games'. All high class intrigues and pointlessly complicated rules for etiquette." Turning his head Martin spat out a glob of phlegm, which hiss and popped as it burnt away in the fire. "Give me a straight fight over that any time.

"Heading north from there are the Anderfels, filled with ancient thaigs brimming with ancient treasures, ancient darkspawn and Grey Wardens. They claim that the King of the Anders rules there, but everyone knows the Wardens are the true power."

Sitting back, placing his pipe between his teeth once more Martin gazed around at the Company, watching each of them carefully as they weighed up their options. "Well? Which way should we go? Where do you think we'll find the best work?"

From a distance came a rather fatigued looking individual.
The being was assumed to be male due to his frame- that and many women don't really have broad shoulders. The wind blew his hair to the side as he stumbled onto the camp. "I take it this is where to join the Company of Martin?" The male walked forward well aware of the risk. But where was his sense of adventure if he feared every person. He couldn't help but take a look around on all the other individuals.

Humans,Elves,Dwarves, no horned guys... A nug...? So that is a nug...oddly cute yet ugly at the same time...like Antivians?
The male rested his hands under his chin, somewhat smirking at the Nug. "I'm sorry... but what is the expression....adorable?" He asked Inquisitively pointing at the Nug. "Is it bad I want to pet it...?" The male had not yet introduced himself, and yet his curiosity made him seem like an utter child before strangers.

Soon the male coughed a second. "I completely forgot... to introduce myself I mean. I'm Cassius. It would be nice if I could join your company. Or is the expression 'it would be an honor'? " He somewhat was amazed by how much word play he was catching himself in.

Waving his hand gregariously Martin gestured for the stranger to take a place by the fire. "You're welcome to join us... Cassius, was it? We were just discussing our next venture and would be more than willing to hear your own opinion on the matter. Which area do you think would provide the best work for a noble group of warriors, such as ourselves?"

"My bet would be placed on the Free Marches." The bearded man known as Paxton said from his seat across the fire, a plate of dried fish placed on his lap. "More than enough trouble out there that we can help deal with. The coin has to be pretty good two, especially if we can manage to get hired by one of the leaders of those free cities. Those blighters are practically choking on their wealth." He said before he took a bite out of his fish, a soar look coming over his face. "Ugh this is vile..." He complained before he looked over his shoulder. "Here you go girl." He called out before tossing the fish behind him. Before the fish could hit the sand of the beach a blur of red fur plucked it from the air and began to devour it. The large beast gnawed of the fish as it laid next to Paxton's feet, he reaching down and patting her head. "Good girl."

Cassius made eye contact with the leader before giving a slight smirk. "Not the Imperium... You don't want to go there... However... The Free Marches would seem like a better place to go. But I'd be cautious of other cities... most because laws can be..." He placed a finger over his mouth before pondering. Speaking to others was awkward for him in such an open manner.

"Weird? That is the correct expression? Right?" He somewhat tilted his head rather helplessly.
"From what I heard... different city states, which means different laws. I really don't know much to be blunt. But I know it is best to keep controversial things to a minimal. Topics I mean!" he interrupted himself.

"But before we go into... any of that. I'd like to ask a few questions. Mostly... opinions on magic. And... The circles? I don't know much about them..." It was clear at this point he was effected by lack of knowledge of such broad events. Most he could recall was tears in the sky and world. At least he wasn't blatantly stupid and had the common decency to ask rather then to keep wondering like a chicken with it's head cut off... or like a blind brothel date wondering if she is getting paid for.

"I don't care where we go, as long as we don't have to go by FUCKING SEA. For the love of the unholy Creator Andrastre Maker FUCK, if anyone ever tries to get me on the big blue fish smelling fucking ocean I will craft an Eluvian out of pure anger and shove them through to another world full of nothing but suffering AND PAIN!"

Fredrick paused to tear off a bit of his fish for Mangy, who ate it happily.

"I swear I puked every twelve seconds. Fuck you for putting me through all that pain and suffering, Martin!"

Fredrick listened to Cassius, and spoke up.

"As long as you don't do anything morally questionable, blood mage it up, shitlord. I don't give a quantum fuck."

Taking his pipe out of his mouth Martin held it high in the air pointing in Fredrick's direction, saluting the man's sentiments. "Amen to that, brother." He called out with a chuckle. "Whichever whoreson decided a man should ride the waves should've been hunted down and taught exactly how to swim, preferably with the largest lump of red lyrium they could find shoved up his arse."

Leaning back against the log he was propped up against Martin listened carefully to the options being suggested. Free Marches... not by sea... That would probably mean heading up the Imperial Highway before taking boats down the Minanter River, hitting Hasmal, Tantervale and Starkhaven.

Martin had heard some interesting rumours coming from refugees heading out for Starkhaven recently, talk of war with Kirkwall, which he could understand given the mess they'd made for themselves in the old Tevinter port town. From what he'd heard the whole bloody Mage mess had started in that godforsaken hole, and if there was money to be made wiping it off the map he'd certainly be willing to take his share.

"I don't care where we go." Lian said, petting Snuffles head. She studied the man, Cassius with a quick glace before focusing on the fire. She became shy at the sight of this new person. She tugged her golden hair, trying to cover her ears. Despite being proud of her Dalish roots and years of travel she still hadn't come to terms with how most people saw Elves.

Picking at her fish with a pair of tweezers, pulling a tendon as she watched the tail move with an expression of intense interest, Henrietta looked up for a moment, her magnifying goggles still in place over her eyes. "Did someone say thaigs? I'd love to see some of those old ruins. They must be packed with all kinds of interesting gadgets and gizmos for me to study."

For most of the sea journey the dwarven artificer had spent her time below deck, examining every piece of the Siren she could get access to, and already her mind was bubbling over with new inventions and gadgets to add to her already impressive collection. Some sort of machine which could sail the skies, as a ship sailed the seas perhaps? That would certainly help the Company travel faster between jobs, as well as being more comfortable than walking all over the place carting so many inventions around.

Gerald had only recently joined up with this gang of misfits to gain a better knowledge of the world and for a sense of protection as while the spirits told him these people weren't normal he had the distinct feeling any other mercenary group would end up just getting him killed. He sat cross legged in front of a separate fire he had made himself. He was however close enough to them that he could hear and talk to them if need be. He staff was placed in front of him and his dark cloaked robes kept the heat from escaping it into the cold air around him. Breathing in and out he listened to the group talk and he found out there were ideas being passed around. Of course all of these had their own flaws and ups but he couldn't help but feel there was a better line of work to be made out there. He missed the days of the circle where he could simply crawl into bed at night after a meal and go to sleep. Of course he never fell asleep easy...ever...the noises in his head got worse when he was asleep. Bloody hell magic was a blessing yet a deep and grating curse. Especially for a person like himself who lived through this troubled age as a person who had seen some dark magic. Regardless of his own personal woes he was thinking...thinking about where to go and why. It'd have to be worth it trips like these aren't just some random occurrence. After a moment's deliberation his calm and smooth voice was heard speaking up,

"Antiva and Orlais while profitable would earn us many enemies even as simple mercenaries go. The thaigs are not worth exploring. Too many dangers lurk in those places. Too many dangers left undiscovered for good reason. For personal reasons I fear going to the Imperium would put many of us in a complicated position. Neverra and the Free Marches lay with the fewest risks. We do as we must but I have said my part." Gerald said simply indifferent as the water that flows through streams. "Remember this is a time of massive change. We can't simply go and expect to run into money without massive risks. If I had to suggest an alternate I may say we head to Amaranthine. The head of the former warden commander of fereldan. That land burns but it does so due to old wounds. We may not find fortunes there but we will find something."

"If I had to suggest an alternate I may say we head to Amaranthine."

Martin winched at the thought of crossing the Waking Sea again so soon. They'd only this very night disembarked on the Nevarran coast and to turn back and head for Ferelden again seemed like a pointless waste of their time. Plus Martin could feel his guts squirm from the mere thought of having to ride those waves again and would much prefer to stay on dry land for as long as he could.

"While I understand you position, my friend," The old soldier said with a kind, fatherly tone, "I think I speak for both Fredrick and myself when I say I'm not going fucking back on that fucking boat!" To emphasise his point Martin stabbed his pipe out towards where the Siren lay just off the shore, it's cabin lights glowing against the backdrop of the setting sun. "It would be better if we stay this side of the waters, at least for now."

Sitting back Martin clasped his pipe between his teeth tightly, not wanting to admit the real reason he didn't wish to return of Ferelden. As his thoughts began to wander he spotted a familiar shadow flitting through the undergrowth just outside of the fire's pool of light. Hoisting himself up onto his feet the soldier stamped his boots a few times to get the blood pumping in his legs again before declaring to the gathered Company, "I need a piss, if anyone needs me they can wait until I'm done," before striding off between the trees and into the shadows.

Fredrick watched Henrietta play with her fish. Maker bless her, there was something wrong with that girl. Fredrick would say she had a screw loose, but that'd be too much of a pun.

"No Thaigs. No, and hell no. Last time I was underground I had to learn how to dress myself with only one hand. No, and fuck no. And furthermore, my final and most convincingly thought out argument, sweet shitty nipple tit FUCK NO."

He then listened to Gerald and Martin, and nodded emphatically at Martin's words.

"Gerald, you suggest a boatride again and I will shove that entire ship into a crevice of your body so rarely witnessed that not even thr ashes of Andrastre will be able to save you. PLUS, I kind of have a few things I have to do before I go back to Fereldan. Besides, Amarinthine kind of sucks."

He paused.

"Tevinter...might be somewhere to consider later. I ah...have something I might be able to check out there. In the mean time, though, Free Marches is probably best. Mostly because it's a land, route, and I don't know if you knew this, but boats FUCKING SUCK."

"No Tevinter." Cassius said somewhat folding his arms as he looked at the One armed Elf.
"It is a place that would be nightmarish for someone like you. Besides... none of your 'charming' quips even amounts to what anyone is like there." The newcomer displayed great caution in his stance. One dost not speak unless thy have meaning in thine words.

Rather than stand around, Cassius walked over to Geralt, a circle mage.
"From what little I know, Antivians are renowned assassins posing as Orlesians? Or that just a fancy stereotype to scare others...?"

"If you had ears fools I recommended two other places before Armaranthine. I don't enjoy boats either so stop shouting like a fool. Where we go is irrelevant as long as the trip is worth it." Gerald said plainly as he sipped some soup out of a bowl he had placed on the fire noting that it was not as hot as it should be still but it was getting there. He looked at the elf who walked over to him and he suppressed a scowl. Elves and all of their philosophies about how great their old gods were and or how strong they used to be angered him. However he barely knew this elf so he figured he may as well give the pointy eared warrior the benefit of the doubt.

"I heard stories from my brief time in The White City of Chains that Antivians are no less deadly as Orlesians if not more so. Don't underestimate the fancy fool wearing a pretty dress just because he is acting like one. For all you know he's poisoned your food with twelve drops of poison and waiting to signal his guards to shoot you with arrows. Antivian Crows are not to be toyed with. Whatever they use to 'scare people' is unknown to me. All I know is that they are really good at what they do. Did you not hear of that ambassador killed in the heart of the palace of Orzammar? Not group of people worth their pennies could've done that easily. Be careful on who you joke about." Gerald said as he took another sip of his soup. He breathed in deeply taking in the fresh air and stretched out his fingers then clutched them into fists a few times to get some feeling back into them.

"...sweet shitty nipple tit FUCK NO."

"Were you talking to me?" 'Etta asked looking up from her examination of the fish for a moment and turning her head around in puzzlement. "Oh, right... sorry, mind wandering there for a second... umm, where was I? Oh yes, if we're going to be heading into the Free Marches, I'd really love a chance to stop off in Tantervale. I've heard there's an arcanist there who's developed a new form of magic called technomancy, where she uses machines to help channel magical energies. That should prove to be an interesting diversion, shouldn't it..?"

For a moment the dwarf looked around at her fellow companions before her eyes seemed to lose focus for a moment before turning her attention back to the fish splayed out in her lap. "Fascinating, forward momentum induces pressure on the gills, aiding aquatic respiration..."

"Well I'm not saying we go vacation there or any bullshit like that! It's just...you know what, let's just say it's personal shit, okay," Fredrick said to Cassius, "And, hey, I can fucking handle myself, okay? Any fucking tevinter mages that think a one armed elf is easy pickings will learn just how fucking misinformed they are."

He paused.

"Okay, no, Tevinter would be fucking dangerous and that's probably a thing I should just do on my own later. Forget I opened my stupid fucking mouth about that bronto shit."

His only response to Gerald was to raise his middle finger at the mage.

Mangy approached Henrietta, looking on in interest. He listened to her ramblings, and barked as she talked about the fish.

"Mangy, somehow I don't think she's going to start giving science lessons to a fucking dog."

Mangy whined.

"Just don't fucking bother her. She clearly wants to do her own thing."

Mangy growled.

"Maker fuck, Mangy, fine! I'll let you try to get fucking science lessons from the crazy ass dwarf! I'll just be here, listening to the mages fucking scare each other with stories of Orlesians and Antivan Crows."

Freddy turned his head away from Mangy, and Mangy returned his attention to Henrietta, and watched as she examined the fish.

"You're so pleasant." he teased Fredric.
"Your decorum is so pleasant... I wish I could swear every time I open my mouth, unfortunately I don't have a bad temper." He somewhat stared blankfaced before turning back to the mage.

"In short, everything I said was correct and you gave additional exposition to further my point... duly noted. And I thank you for such wisdom." He bowed his head just a bit as a sign of acknowledgment and respect. Still, he did feel this man was cold and calculating by the tone of his words.

It didn't take him long to walk over to the rather curious dwarf who's curiosity rivaled only his.
"And what is it you are up to... A fish...?" Cassius stared slightly stupefied that her curiosity was sated on a fish. Yet... he never really thought of aquatic creatures,so in a way he was a bit more invested for some reason or another. Life was sure intriguing to him to say the least.

Walking back out of the shadows, fastening his pants as he approached the fire, Martin moved over to where the mapo was lain out and quickly started to scratch out details onto the parchment. "Right, so I think the majority agree we head for the Free Marches. And there's three possible routes we could take, depending on where we want to end up..."

"The way things are right now it's a matter of choosing between Starkhaven or Kirkwall, since the tensions between the two cities mean it would be an arsehole's squeeze trying to get from one to the other without having to answer a hell of a lot of questions about our intent. We'd most likely get strung up as spies before we made it in sight of the walls."

Pausing to give a nod in Henrietta's direction Martin tapped his dagger down on the river in the middle of the Free Marches. "If we're heading for Tantervale, then we should look to press on to Starkhaven, traveling along the Minanter River. Otherwise there's the coast or mountain routes leading us to Kirkwall."

With a quick glance over his shoulder, back into the darkness from which he'd just emerged Martin reluctantly added, "There is another route as well. An entrance to the Deep Roads not too far from here which could get us to either Kirkwall or Starkhaven a lot quick, and a... reliable source tells me the tunnels are being kept clear by an ally of the Grey Wardens, so it should be safe enough to travel in relative safely. And by that I mean we'd likely get attacked by darkspawn once a week, rather than once a day."

Sitting back down Martin gave a moment for the information to sink in, letting the Company make their own decisions as to what the best option may be without his interference swaying their choice.

The mere mention of that city's name sent a shiver down Gerald's spine. He had left with reason and to go back to it so soon? No. Not now.

"The city of chains is not a place we should go to. Rivers and water would hinder us in getting there. Besides what is there to gain there? Nothing. Go to Starkhaven. Zealots and worms live there but they probably could afford to pay us more than a city still rebuilding from events that happened there." Gerald said plainly as he stirred his soup.

"The deep roads though as I said are fraught with unknown mysteries. The Red Lyrium could be down there and that is what drove many templars to madness. We'd do well to avoid the deep roads as long as possible. Besides I don't intend on getting near a darkspawn. I enjoy my freedom as it is without the need to become a grey warden. Whatever happens to wardens is directly linked to dark spawn and while they are on the surface now in some places they are still in bulk in the ground. The dwarves we fools to dig too deep and too greedily into a place long forsaken by many. Just because the wardens say they are clear doesn't mean they are. Or have you forgotten what the Inquisitor told the people the of the world about what they thought they were doing at adamant? Coerced by a cultist thought to be their salvation."
