Yeah... It sure did.
I'm not sure if pitting the player characters against each other was the wisest idea. It's sure been an experience in ... using abilities, and provoking interaction, but the disagreements are overwhelming.
Honestly, I'm more of a PvE than a PvP sort of gal. I enjoy it in video games, but in things like tabletop roleplays and forum roleplays, it's an exercise in futility. And headache inducing. People always feel the need to come out exclusively on top and avoid all damage to their characters, so that they remain pristine. I understand the allure of that, but I don't exactly like it. It doesn't exactly give way to interesting or compelling stories - after all, who is more unique: a hermit missing an arm who has a perpetually grumpy-old man attitude and a flair with earth magic, or a sixteen year old who waves around a giant sword like he's been doing it for three decades and is angsty?
If you asked me, the hermit. Why is he missing an arm? What made him so grumpy? Behind those scars and wrinkles, and the backaches and fondness for a fresh brewed pot of tea, there is a story to be told. The sixteen year old is just a plain-jane, no substance.
Getting hurt is good. Your character experiencing loss is good. I'm not saying to run around getting limbs sliced off, but allowing injury to happen, reacting to those consequences, that is interesting. After all, how would a character like our sixteen-year old Cloud Strife wannabe react to getting one of his arms broken or permanently injured (or removed entirely)? Would it make him see life differently? Would he become more withdrawn or would he start to appreciate the things around him more? That's when the plain-jane becomes something more. These injuries do not have to be physical, though that seems a better route for actual interactions (it's easier to deal with than real emotional or mental issues).
Sorry if this is long winded, but I prefer characters who have weaknesses and flaws. That lightning bomb that just hit the Hunter Ship? That's going to mess my character (Shara) up. Why? She isn't prepared for that to happen, and even if she was, that sort of force would knock her around. She'll probably sustain a head injury if nobody more physically capable catches her (looking at you Balazar).
