You are Captain Dalvo Bex, Commander of the Space Frigate Heirloom, on a supply run to Rigel II from Earth. You awake dizzy in your quarters and cannot remember how you got here. The emergency lighting system has activated bathing the small, dimly lit room in pale red light.

You manage to sit up and the pain in your head worsens. A clear cup with some pale white liquid is on the table beside you. The viewscreen above your dining table shows only static. The doorlock light is green. You are naked except for your skivvies and suddenly quite cold.

You pick up the glass of liquid. Did I put this here? It smells horrible. I don't know what's in this cup. Your throat is parched and scratchy.

I grimace with disgust at the smell and cautiously dip the tip of my tongue into the liquid.

The liquid has no taste. It's so refreshing on your dry tongue you gulp the whole glass down greedily and slam the cup down on the table. You look down at your bare feet and see a white sani-foam package. The label says: Nutrient Pack 11G*8.

I wrinkle my nose, take the nutriant pack, attempt to eat it and blindly smack the wall hoping to hit a button to call someone in.

You tear the sani-foam pack open and bite into the bland, commercially processed food. You've had it before;it's standard fare on freight ships. You already felt pretty full, but you couldn't help eating the whole thing. Can't remember when I ate last..?

You discard the wrapper on the floor. You have to stand and walk over to the wall. You notice your head is starting to clear and you are already less dizzy. The floor is cold on your bare feet. You hammer at the wall console-at first nothing happens and then the door slips open with a hiss. Looking around the room you see a locker, a few pictures on the wall and the dining table you noticed earlier.

Goosebumps have begun to prickle up on your naked body. You might start shivering soon if you don't find something to wear.

I begin looking around for something to warm me up while hoping I am not interrupted in the meantime.

Damn it's cold in here..could be the life support systems failing..I better find some clothes.. You ignore the open door and open the locker next to it. Inside you find dark black coveralls and a belt with a few pouches. You find another nutrient pack, a multi-tool, a data-stick and a flash light in the pouches. You dress quickly and strap the utility belt to your waist. The emergency lights continue to flash. The emergency system only activates if part of the ships systems are damaged. I need to figure out what's going on...

I wonder what is on the data-stick..I need a computer terminal to access it...As you poke your head out out the door you begin to feel warmer and more awake. That nutrient pack really woke you up, and the coveralls are climate controlled-perfect for deep space. The corridor is dark except for the flash of the emergency lights blinking on and off hypnotically

The right passage leads to the mess-hall and the turbo-lift to the bridge. The left passage leads to the armory and the cargo-hold. Straight ahead is an access shaft with a ladder that will bring you to the lower deck where the engine room, sickbay and the escape pods are located.

Wondering what the emergency is, I take the data stick in one hand and turn on the flashlight in the other and head to the bridge for the dual purposes of figuring out what is on that data stick and figuring out what the hell is up with the emergency lights.

You turn left and make your way towards the elevator to the bridge-you just hope the lift is working while the ship is on emergency alert-with your head clear you can finally think straight. You reach the double-doors to the cafeteria. From here you can see the semi-circle opening for the lift to the bridge. You pound on the console beside the lift door-and nothing happens. You try the access again-still nothing. Then you hear the scream. ...that came from the direction I just came...

Wishing I had more on hand, I hold the flashlight as a blunt object and cautiously walk back to try and take an alternate path, and am ready to smack whatever moves in any entryway.

...what the hell was that?!...You raise the flashlight up in front of you for defense and slowly make your way back down the corridor. The mess-hall double doors are now opening and closing over and over again, malfunctioning. Suddenly the flashing emergency lights stop and the hall goes black for a moment. . .

Normal lighting returns......Maybe things are looking up... The mess-hall doors are wide open now and you can clearly see blood splattered on the floor. Your throat is suddenly very dry. You feel like your struggling to breathe. The gore on the mess-hall walls and floor is dark red and dried, probably been there for a while..Wish I had a better weapon...maybe I can find something in the armory to use...

Feeling slightly nauseated by the smell of the gore, I swallow hard and enter the mess hall, headed for the kitchen. As much as I don't want to, my eyes are trained on the floor to avoid stepping in the blood, even if it's dry. If I'm going to be in here, I better double check for food, water, anything...was my thought.

As I tried to open the door, it felt as if something was propped against it. Only after shoving my entire weight against it was I able to open it, the sound of something heavy smacking the floor. Going inside, I found that the object was, in fact, a body that had sagged against the door. There was a gun lying on the floor nearby, almost as if the (now unrecognizable) person had committed suicide and bled out on the floor. What the heck is going on here? I asked myself.

You search the jumpsuit for a name. It's bloodied but you can read the name. Jane. You have no memory of this person-let alone memory of what happened before you woke up. None. It's as if you didn't exist before you awoke. You spot the gun-not a gun...a phase-welder Like the type the mechanics use in the engine room. No wonder this poor crewmans head is a mess. Was she the one who screamed? No...this happened hours-maybe days ago the blood is dry. Should I take the phase-welder?

You look around the cafeteria. A few rotting plates of food on the main table. A light flickers in the back pantry. The smell in here is awful..

I wrinkle my nose and begin to reconsider getting food from this place. I look around in an attempt to find something sealed and not covered in blood to eat.

You search the cafeteria quickly, wanting to get away from the smell and the mess. You can't find any food to eat but you see a small mini-recorder on the table. Crewmen often use it to record messages to send home or keep a log of the trip. You snatch the recorder and shove it into your coveralls. Then you look at the body. Should I cover it up? Search the body? You start to panic and crumple over with dry heaves. You crawl out of the cafeteria and into the corridor. The air here is much better, but you still feel sick. I feel terrible...not just the sight of all that blood and the smell...like something is wrong. What has happened? I need answers!"
