Welcome to Hokuko, a sprawling metropolis located towards the east coast of the corporate-conglomerate state, the Xiang Cooperative Dialogue. Hokuko is comparable in size to the Greater Tokyo Area, and boasts a similar reputation as the largest metropolitan economy in this world. Many multinational corporations have their headquarters based in Hokuko, which has turned the city's atmosphere into something of an economic cold war. Businesses do battle both in the markets and in the streets, while paying law enforcement to look the other way. As they push their agendas, researchers push the boundaries of what it means to be human; augmentations and cyberization of the human body have raised debates concerning the ethics of transhumanism, and concerns abound over just how far this technology should go. Anti-augmentation militias rally behind closed doors, while cyborg special agents mobilize to counter cyber-terrorist threats. Hokuko is a true cyberpunk playground, free for you, as a player, to mold and control as you see fit.

The RP is heavily rooted in the cyberpunk genre, and borrows from movie, game and anime franchises, including, but not limited to Ghost in the Shell, Appleseed, Bubblegum Crisis, Deus Ex, Syndicate, Blade Runner, etc. Themes to be explored may range from blurred lines between man and machine, corporate espionage and manipulation, government corruption, transhuman ethics, cyber and augmentation-related crime, and so on. This will obviously depend on the actions of the players and what route they take the RP.

The main IntCheck can be found here.

And now, for some thematic music!

Gameplay:

Rules:

Sheets:

Setting Lore: [This is an ongoing catalog of canonical elements that players and I will introduce to the RP. Anything from car manufacturers, to groundbreaking technologies, to popular culture topics can be added within.]

I have made a PiratePad room here, for players to collaborate in. I'll have a tab up and running on my computer whenever possible, so feel free to swing by and say hello, or ask questions. Please use this responsibly!

These sound like things I enjoy.

I'm thinking of throwing up a colourful motorcycle gang and some of the significant members.

They'd do the normal set of drugs, theft, prostitution, racketeering etc. that most gamgs would, but with the real focus on underground street races. Their preferred territories to protect would be dramatic jumps, sharp bends or open straights to weave into circuits.

So far, I'm thinking of having an animal theme, most members having tattoos but some of the more hardcore members going in for surgery, cybernetics or genetic tailoring to match the emblem.

Not sure which animal though. Maybe tigers, or snakes.

Definitely in, and I've got a whole bunch of ideas right now, mostly about toying with the actual world-building or shallow end of the corporate swimming pool to add some color to a world I'm almost certain will be flush with industrial giants as soon as others start building up their corners of the world.

Hmhmhm!~~~~

A cyberpunk RP?!

Yes please, if you'll have me

That said, I have never, in all of my years RPing here, even since the old guild, have I ever taken part in an advanced RP.
That also said, I think I can handle it. Usually its just because there's not much here that interests me.

However, I think you have a nice little set up here. Just enough information to be interesting, but not so much to be completely overwhelming and bogged down by a lot of information.

And you know what every cyberpunk city needs? A ruthless group of well funded mercenaries that'll do anything for money.

....or a group of zealous religious nutjobs. (I do so love some religious crazies in any setting~)

Hmhm...which one, which one....leaning towards mercs, but eh...who knows~

Ooh, a vaguely familiar name that rings a bell, somehow, @Rune_Alchemist! And incidentally, that whole well-funded merc work thing does sound not unlike what I was floating around as a premise. Good to see another like-minded sort, whether for collaboration or competition.

We'll also need some crazy Luddites, a three-tiered economy, a couple of educational institutions that are hotbeds of social and political turmoil. Let's see...a number of various political movements too - ranging from pan-national global unionists to isolationists and separatists of all stripes. Maybe currency exchange rates, population numbers, economic data of all sorts, as well as some languages and ethnicity - not in the full sense, but more in the dispersion of them within these union-states... And...damn, maybe I'm getting too granular in certain details of the world-building, but these are the sort of things that should be noted SOMEWHERE for reference for those of us that need it.

Ah, you'll have to forgive me, your name isn't ringing any bells. That said, I have a shit memory when it comes to a lot of things, especially if I was just in like, one RP with you or something.

Anyways...

Ah, so many ideas, so little time. Having two rival merc groups that compete for the same contracts would be fun to see happen. I think there would need to be a bit of difference between them though to keep it interesting, though. Maybe one focuses on cybernetic enhancements and technology, and the other focuses on good old human strengths and abilities. Just my two cents.

Maybe we could have a cult of religious people that try to shut down technology and inhibit progress? They'd be peaceful on the outside, but if you get in deep enough to their funds, operations, and other things turns out they're a bunch of money-hungry idiots who do human experimentation or what not? Maybe they'd instigate some sort of cyber attack or something for their purposes? Maybe some sort of bio-weapon.

Hmm....everything else seems kind of beyond me, but I'm not really one to worry about small details like currency exchange rates. It'd be nice information to have, but eh...that's a lot of work and would require someone who actually had any inkling of how those all worked xP

I think that's about it, but I'm definitely gonna be going with the Mercenaries at this point I think. Might decide to make something else after I finish them, we'll see though.

-----

I suppose I should ask what sort of firearms are available and what is the general technology level? We talking about laser weapons here? Or more conventional kinetic weaponry? I'm fine with either, in fact I think it'd be fun to have someone develop laser/energy based weapons somewhere down the line and completely change how conflicts happen. (My cyberpunk is really rusty, so I Might be getting out of the realm of cyberpunk there, but eh, I like my lasers.)

....hmm....so much work to do for my little merc group, so little time~

-Ah ah, wait wait.
I'm making a huge corporate powerhouse with its own private military/Mercs. That's owned by a rather young/naive CEO who recently inherited the position and has no idea what the actual fuck he's doing.

It'll be glorious. Especially to see how many other people attempt to use him for his own ends and persuade him into doing things that could hurt the company and such. Will he crash and burn? Or will he step up to the position and become one of the wealthy and powerful? Will he remain ethical and humane? Or will he start dealing in the macabre, unethical, and not-so-moral aspects of the life?

...I mean, if that's alright and stuff. I can totally just go with the ruthless Mercs.

Oh it's fine; name-changed on my way over here, so I'm not surprised. Was Gilbert once upon a long, long, while ago.

As for all the other stuff? Yeah, probably minor, but important enough when trying to figure out just how the world works. As I see it, at least it's better to have all that info and not need or not use it, but have it on hand should there be a way to work it in, than to not have it at all.

Right, here's my brainstorming so far.

The Tiger Suns are a street gang. Their emblem is a tiger head in a flaming sunburst. Their members wear orange and black, with feline and/or flaming themes. Motorcycle helmets with a snarling tiger's maw around the visor are very popular.

Their territory looks like someone closed their eyes and fired a shotgun at a map of Hokuko, a seemingly random pattern with focus in some territories and little in others. Those familiar with the street racing circuit, however, will see that they cluster around spots with potential for racing.

Their leader goes by Rakshasa, and resembles his mythical namesake - nine feet of genetically augmented human and tiger muscle. He tries to cultivate an aura of quiet menace, but can fly into destructive rages when provoked. He conducts business in a private room filled with intoxicating incense. With Rakshasa's build and augments it gives him a mild buzz, but a typical person would be high as a kite after spending any length of time within.

The gang's headquarters is a strip club in the inner city, and only the gang's most prominent members are allowed on the top floor, those directly involved in running the gang's various illicit activities.

Of these members it's hard to find anyone more prominent than Domino. The gang's best racer, and in their top ten mechanics, when she isn't shoulder-deep in an engine or waist-deep in strippers, Domino is soul-deep in a vehicle, cyberbrain linked to it's systems. The racer is a full-body cyborg catgirl, and her clothes heap includes several spare bodyparts with different functions.

I'm pretty fond of your novice CEO trying to fill the shoes of his predecessors. That should make for a fun (and maybe bloody?) story.

Deeply interested, cyberpunk is one of the genres I love the most.

I'm a fresh face here, but I've got a decent amount of experience with advanced role-plays, just pardon any potential rustiness in my writing and don't let my newness dissuade you.

-----

In regards to a character/faction, I'm quite interested in pursuing some criminal enterprise or perhaps a technologically focused company (focusing on cybernetics and a quality over quantity type of operation, perhaps one operating on the fringe of legality, with suspected ties to some less than squeaky clean organizations and individuals).

I'm going to stick my head in here and follow this thread to show my interest. Getting myself started with some interesting RPs after being gone for a bit, so I'm trying to get a good lineup of threads to choose from. Cyberpunk has always been a fun genre for me, and I like the sandbox element.

The concept I'm batting around right now involves a group of hackers who see themselves as vigilantes, constantly orchestrating hacks to get information on corporate corruption or digital murmurs of illicit drug trades. They have some fighters among their midst, but the general feel of the group tends to paint them more as information brokers. They don't want the big corporations or gangs to have free reign, but they also realize they don't have the manpower to stop them, so besides small sting operations, they mainly archive and auction information for those who really can use it. Small-time CEOs would love to have them on the payroll.

@Aristo I've sent you a brief blurb for "Blackwell Industries", a small corporation with a heavy focus on research in the fields of cybernetics and cyberization...essentially human augmentation?

Awesome, glad you do!
I'll try to get something written up fairly soon. I'll have a sheet for all the important people, such as the board of directors, other CEO's and other important bits as well. Might take me a bit to get everything organized, but I will do it!

I could work with that as I'm going for a small but very forward research corporation with perhaps less moral constraints than many. The morality aspect of your group might cause some interesting "deal with the devil" dynamics, but I think it works with the "we'll do business with anyone so long as it benefits us" mentality of the corporation I have in mind and I could easily see there being ample compensation provided to the hackers for their services to ensure that they might find it too tempting of an offer to refuse (and there are probably worse corporations out there).

However, that's just an idea, and by no means something that needs to be set in stone, but I liked your idea so I wanted to offer some feedback or rather some potential plot hooks. :D

I should get something official up before this time tomorrow, maybe try amd think of a few more 'inner circle' members for the Tiger Suns. They should probably have a cat burglar, if only for the name...

Below is what I have so far, alas the night approaches, and I've a dinner gathering to go to.

So forgive me any grave errors with my scheming. My goal was to represent a small, but talented corporation, that relies more on cleverness, talent, and wise alliances than brute force and numbers to survive or even excel when facing giant mega-corps.

I'm hoping to get some character biographies written up in the near future, although I have a number of character already sketched out so it shouldn't be too bad of a process.
