As the briefing was underway, Xiu stayed near the back of the tent, looking down at her phone.
"Hey L", she typed thoughtfully. "Change of plans. They're sending us back into the city ASAP. Besides, if the situation gets any worse, you might want to keep those guns for yourself. Hell, you might want to leave town. Better safe than dead. If everything goes according to plan, I'll see you when this is over."
She read over it one time, and hit 'send'. She'd never be able to properly thank Lawrence, for all the help he'd given her, so she decided it was best to not thank him at all. Besides, he knew. How else could an unemployed immigrant, with the social skills of a xenophobic robot, have made such a name for herself. She had the most resourceful independent weapons dealer in the country behind her.
Finishing her train of thought, she glanced up at the other heroes, each ducking out of the tent to get ready for the upcoming mission. She decided to stay behind for a moment, till everyone else had left. Standing there by herself, she drew out her pack of American Spirits and a small metal lighter. Igniting the tip of a fresh cigarette, she took a long, deep drag, and meditated on the subtle nicotine rush.
Time passed, as she calmed herself, and mentally prepared for the upcoming battle. This would be her trial, and she intended to meet it with nothing less than perfection. Tossing the smoldering butt to the ground, she made her way out of the tent, looking for a ride. Then she saw it, a bulky, green, military jeep, with a mounted machine-gun on the top. It was a match made in heaven!
"Hey, GI Joe!", she shouted to the nearest soldier. "I require the use of that vehicle, immediately. Justice League business."
With a surprised salute, the soldier ran off to fetch the keys. By the time he returned, she had already planted herself in the driver's seat, and lit up yet another cigarette.
"Hey, while you're down there, fetch a couple boxes of nine-mill, five-point-five-six, and anything else you've got laying around. Just toss 'em in the back." she commanded.
Moments later, she was burning rubber down the road, giving it a test drive while she waited for the other heroes to assemble outside the city. She took a scenic drive through the area, and waited.
Moments later, as Batman, Wonder Woman, and the other heroes assembled for their next attack, she cam screeching to a halt in front of them. Her stacks of assorted ammunition rattling and tumbling around the cab.
