Catching flashes of the others argument, Virgil thought it was wiser to keep out of it. Not that he had nothing to say, but...

Focusing back on Bluebird, he began, "Well...I think I get it. I mean, sure my power could be dangerous, but I've never really used it at levels that could kill someone. But it's not like Batman's code or anything, I just... Most of my rogues are street punks. Superpowered, sure, but I don't that means I should kill them."

Scratching his head, Static said, "Okay, maybe I don't get it. I ended up in the middle of those drones, so I can figure what would have happened if I'd stayed. It might not be 'hate' but it didn't feel too far off." But then again, Virgil wasn't quite sure: was it possible to save those drones? He didn't want to think about it.

Seeing Virgil's hesitation, Xiu rethought herself. Forcing a smile, she said, "Don't worry about it. I wasn't saying we shouldn't kill them. We should. They're not human anymore, and I don't think they can be brought back. And they were trying to kill us! I saw them clawing at you, when you flew down there. I... I'm just saying, that's why I stopped..."

Xiu stared at the ground for a moment, and reflected. This was senseless, and it only made her weaker, less useful to the League. Besides, there was nothing else that could be done. Why hesitate to kill drones, when drones wouldn't hesitate to kill real people? She breathed out, raised her head, and locked eyes with Virgil. Her expression was sheer determination.

"Seriously, don't worry about it. It's just me, and I'll get used to it. Let's see what the old-timers are talking about, alright?"

Movement, most notable by streaking white lines so numerous as to blend together into a scintillating, monochromatic blur, suddenly slowed. The ship's visuals reported the sudden deceleration by shortening the lines into mere white dots, moving solidly against the blackness.

The center of the screen soon showed an anomaly amongst the black and white; a tiny blue dot, slowly but steadily growing larger. A practiced hand operated the console below the screen, expanding the image to several times its original size. Land masses, hidden in many places by white cloud cover, rose brown and verdant both from the huge masses of water dominating the sphere. Yes, this was it, the very sphere home to part of his lineage.

It seemed quaint, really. To look at, quite unimportant. Yet, so much drama had occurred, and likely still would, for whatever reason due to various importances assigned to this rock by Powers That Be established eons upon eons before life of any kind oozed and spread across its primitive surface. And yet, up until fairly recently, every inhabitant of this planet was certain that it was the center of the universe.

My, how things change.

Uncertain as to the total range of the native planetary sensors (or even if they had systemwide sensory technology), it was probably best to make his presence as least detectable as possible. A few icon taps on a virtual board enabled vocal commands, and the pilot spoke a base few words to the onboard intelligence.

"خاموش چلانے جہاز کی چادر ، کے ساتھ روابط بڑھائے ."

The ship slowed just a bit more, unnecessary lights dimming. Ion engine noise lessened considerably, and to anyone attempting to view the shapely, vaguely triangular vessel from outside, it seemed to have blurred and vanished.

"بہترین . ایک پرسکون اترنے کے لئے تیار ."

The display blinked a query. From the look of the images on the screen, it was a question of geography. The pilot smiled, amused at himself for forgetting something as simple as the landing point. Any reasonably built up world would have had appropriate planetary coordinates sent out to incoming ships, but this spinning blue mass wasn't quite there yet.

Examining the geographical features around his intended destination on the planet, he addressed onboard navigational directly.

"بہترین . ایک پرسکون اترنے کے لئے تیار ." He pressed a secluded looking spot on the map, and continued. "سے باہر کے بارے میں دو سو میل ..." Though seeming to have a little trouble forming the last word, he pushed through it admirably to finish with: "...Metropolis."

***

The ship landed undetected amongst tall peaks and evergreen trees. The scent of pine and freshly moved earth floated on the breeze as the pilot emerged from a dark recess in the side of a cliff face. From the air, merely a crack in the mountainside; but from dead on it exposed enough space to hover an Imperial Corvette into, which is precisely what had just occurred.

He stepped out into the bright, dazzling light of the high sun and breathed deeply of Earth's native air. Something about this was absolutely invigorating. He stared upwards, looking at the light filtering through the needle-bearing trees, and understood that he wanted more of this radiance. The planetary newcomer crossed his arms and raised himself from the ground, in defiance of gravity.

Chasing the growing exposure of this yellow brilliance, he levitated ever faster to clear the treeline, to break into open air. In short seconds, he basked in its warm glow. Many minutes passed before he remembered that he came all this way for a purpose, and should probably return to it. Still keeping under the undiluted rays of the sun, the traveler got his bearings and flew, blurring his image for his speed, eastward.

***

Some time had passed before he realized that he was unsure of the proper direction. This planet moved at a constant rate, but it also seemed to have a tilt to it, something he did not account for. To his credit, the same planetwide systems that would have given him proper landing coordinates (that this one obviously did not have) would have also oriented his landbound navigation. Against his credit, he had just overlooked this earlier and felt like a moron for it. Nothing else to do but to ask a native for directions.

He got his chance very soon.

The older gentleman looked to be fixing a fence outside of a private residence. You'd have thought he had soiled himself by the reaction he gave, seeing someone in black, white, and gold Almeracian combat garb slowly and silently descending from the sky. As soon as the elder man got a good look at his face, however, something akin to hope spread across it. Hope, and lots of confusion.

"آپ کو طریقہ معلوم کریں ... Metropolis?" He tried again, slower and more enunciated. Yeah, like that was going to help. "Metro... ...polis?" Maybe he was saying it wrong. Either way, he didn't have time for this. The visitor reached into the mind of the native with an extension of his own will, and sought the information for himself.

"You will have to pardon my intrusion, um, Jimmy? Jim. Whatever."

So this was English. Coarse tongue, little in the way of artistry. Few structural rules - almost chaotic. But it would do.

"I understand that you have a "Smart Phone" on your person?"

The man, Jim, was shocked utterly. But he nodded and pulled out a largish mobile device. The visitor produced a small, translucent rectangle about the size of a thumbnail and held it over the earthly tech. He then inserted it into a slot on the wrist of his uniform.

"As do I, now. Thank you."

***

His experience with the Internet was horrifying. Let us say, there are certain words he would never include in a Google search ever again, although he was intrigued by a creature the Earthlings referred to as a "Cat". Eventually, he located the proper directions to his destination in Metropolis, and sent a message to his point of contact within the League.

Well, if not his contact, then his family's contact. He had no idea who it was, at any rate. The gist of it could be summarized as: "Almeracian Imperial Royalty requesting an audience with the League of Justice. Envoy requiring diplomatic courtesy."

A bit slower now, the visitor flew toward the distant cityscape in a standing position, hands crossed in front of him. His long, white cape flapped indiscriminately in the wind, somewhat to his annoyance. He was curious as to whether he could find some way to lose or destroy the cape before long, symbol of his status be damned.

The remaining founders of the Justice League walked over to the rest of the group. Batman noted what he'd heard in the numerous conversations. The knight was strictly about the endgame and damning anything to do with science or machinery. The 'deaths' weighed heavy on this one, who removed his helmet. Superbeast and Captain Marvel were steadily becoming friends, as were Static and Bluebird. Doctor Light seemed more interested in the civilians they had saved and brought back to base camp outside of Metropolis. Starfire watched over her friend, Raven, who was still unconscious. Kid Flash looked to be trying to regain some of his energy eating several of the protein bars and MRE's the military had provided.

"Everybody listen up..." Batman spoke getting everyone's attention, "Nightwing as well as the remaining civilians in the city are being held under what used to be the Daily Planet. As some of you have noticed many of the drones seem all too similar, and it isn't their programming. I've estimated around 90% of the techno-zombie drones we've been facing are in fact duplicates of the League's multiplying man, Ditto..."

"Nightwing's alive?!? That's the best news I've heard in days!" Superbeast responded.

"Before Brainiac can build a larger army we need to take down the remaining three drone generators and find out where he's keeping the original Ditto. If Ditto can't be saved we'll have to take him down." the Flash commented.

"We're gonna call it a day for the most part, however Batman has stated he's going back in to attempt to free Nightwing." Wonder Woman said crossing her arms almost as if she disapproved of Batman trying to go in alone yet again.

"I asked you not to tell them, Wonder Woman..." Batman said in his usual tone.

"While Batman didn't ask for help, any League members wishing to volunteer may do so. Those of you in Young Justice will be sitting this one out..." the Amazon continued noticing what appeared to be a metahuman flying towards them in the sky, "Batman, were you expecting...?"

"He's here." Batman said to the point.

The Captain's eyes lit up at the mention of Nightwing's status. This seemed to be just the news the two teams needed to get their spirits up. Now Billy had to consider going with Batman or not. Sure, his extra fire power could be the turning point in the battle to save Nighwing and all those civilians, but if he left then he couldn't defend the safe zone if the 'all mighty' Brainiac decided that Metropolis wasn't big enough for his huge ego. Ultimately, the crimson clad hero knew that he couldn't just stand by while his fellow Leaguers got to go out and bring the fight to Brainiac whilst saving their fellow hero and a load of civilians.

"I'll go with ya, Bats! Still got some kick left in me, stamina of Atlas and all that..." Captain Marvel proclaimed as he stepped towards Batman and Wonder Woman with an eager look on his face. When the approaching meta got closer Billy tried to stifle his laughter at the individual's means of flying. Ever since the appearance of Darkseid Billy normally burst out laughing when he would see a super-being flying in a standing position. Billy kept his humor to himself though since he didn't want to offend the incoming flyer, at least not yet.

Finn was still in a bad mood and people seemed to still be trying to just look on the bright side of this situation. His annoyance rose a bit when Wonder Woman said to call it a day and he rolled his eyes. How on earth could she call it a day when there was still a mechanical menace out there that had enslaved several members of the league? It seemed like he was the only one besides Batman that was taking this situation seriously and now the subject of the Caped Crusader going back to find his old sidekick was brought up. William wanted to kill some more techno-zombies and continue his crusade against this evil science.

"I'll join you Batman, my sword is still hungry for the flesh of these sinful scientific monstrosities" he replied to them as he held his longsword firmly in his right hand, the blade glinting in the sunlight. His attention was then drawn to the figure flying towards them, Batman seemed to know this new individual and William wondered if this was good news or something bad.

"Are they friend or foe?!" he said firmly to Batman and was curious to hear the league founder's response. If this new person was an enemy then they were going to have a taste of God's fury.

From a distance, the flying figure was merely a dark silhouette with a white cape buffeting dramatically in the breeze. As he drew closer, certain details became apparent: The newcomer looked, aside from the flying, like a normal, well-formed human youth. Dark of hair and strong of feature, he was well-groomed with a air of authority about him. His facial features, well... were familiar. Frightening even, in their familiarity.

He could tell that he was being observed; that was the point. Low altitude, slower speed on the approach. Let himself be seen, and see them. The nonverbal responses from the military present were a clustering of shock, reservation, and suspicion. The strange newcomer's approach slowed further as he neared the group of Earth's Heroes. He settled lightly upon the ground a few paces from the two Justice League founders, Batman and Wonder Woman, and walked the remaining four steps required to enter range for polite conversation.

Up close and personal, the reason for the odd looks was obvious: This person was a dead ringer for the Last Son of Krypton, the inestimable paragon of righteousness, Superman. Details were off, of course. He had green eyes, bright and intelligent, and a slightly more slender grace about himself, hinting at dexterity training necessary to a person that did not rely on nigh invulnerability.

He spoke with a solid, confident voice, initiating conversation stiffly. "Thank you for receiving me, Sir, Lady, though I recall requesting Diplomatic Courtesy on behalf of an Envoy of Almeracian Royalty. As this request was summarily ignored, I can only assume that you have something of greater importance taking priority?"

His eyes darted about, taking in details around him. "Please forgive my impatience. I had a long journey here. I am Maxus-El, First Prince of Almerac, of the Imperial Bloodline."

He pressed a small white strip of material to the inside of his cheek and handed it over to the two Founders. "Run this through your biometrics, such as it is. It will confirm my identity and relation to two members of your League. It was Mother's wish that I enter the ranks of the Justice League. She was insistent that it was a worthwhile endeavor, and that as a Legacy I would be given direct consideration."

"In the meantime, what is the situation? I am noting indications elevated stress, unless you Terrans always look like this."

"I'll join you Batman, my sword is still hungry for the flesh of these sinful scientific monstrosities", the archaic warrior proclaimed.

"Likewise", Xiu hopped in. "All these bullets are weighing me down. I need to spend a few m-"

As she spoke, she saw the swiftly approaching figure, suspended eerily in the air.

"The hell?", she breathed.

"Are they friend or foe?!", Sir William inquired.

"No time for taking chances", Bluebird mumbled to herself. With frantic speed, she gripped the AMR-2 armour-piercing rifle on her back, and swung it around. Wedging the stock into her shoulder, she lowered herself onto one knee and took aim. As the strange figure descended to the ground, in front of the group, her grip tightened and her eyes grew wide. A tinge of regret ran through her, for her decision to not bring any kryptonite-tipped bullets. Still, what were the chances his eyes were bulletproof too.

The man began speaking to Batman and Wonder Woman, with excessive pomp and pretense. Friend or foe, Xiu already hated him.

"In the meantime, what is the situation? I am noting indications elevated stress, unless you Terrans always look like this.", the alien blathered, with the diction and mannerisms of a walking aristocratic stereotype.

"Bats! Is this guy in the clear?", Xiu asked, taking aim directly for his left eye. "Locked", she whispered.

For the record, I still think this plan is foolish.

"Yeah, yeah, I heard ya the first five times." hissed Shay in as low a whisper as possible. Presently, he was using Alastor's powers to blend himself into the colors of the foliage outside the military camp. Metropolis, being a quarantine zone, was pretty thoroughly locked down, as such entering the city wasn't happening without some form of authorization, be it from the Military or the Justice League. Shay, much to the demon's annoyance, made it his mission to get into the League's camp so he could directly offer his help to them. Getting Alastor to agree to the idea was difficult, but not impossible. The conversation had gone something like this:

"You want to do WHAT?"

"You heard me. We sneak past the Military, then show ourselves to the Justice League. The very fact we reached them undetected should be impressive enough to convince them we're worth having around."

"Yes, I heard that part. But, um, one question..."

"Shoot."

"WHY? Do you have ANY idea how wrong that plan could go? And how exactly does joining the League's little crusade against Brainiac benefit us in any conceivable way? If anything it just paints an even bigger target on our backs."

"Jaysus, I've told you before! I'm bloody flah'ed out with all this runnin' away bollocks. I say we find a way to take the fight to those bastards for a change!"

"And you intend to use the League to do that? I'm not sure they'd appreciate being used like that."

"That's why we're gonna help them first. We scratch their back, they scratch ours. We may be runnin' from the Divil, but the Justice League ain't no pushovers, neither. So what do ya say? Let's make nice with the League and earn us a favor we can cash in later."

"That... is actually surprisingly well-thought-out. Fine, I agree... for now."

"Your the one who agreed with my plan in the end." Shay pointed out, reminding the demon that he did indeed agree to what they were currently doing, and so complaining about it now was a waste of time. It was too late to back out now.

"Just because I agreed with it doesn't mean I have to like it." the demon's voice retorted.

Sneaking past the Military wasn't as difficult as Shay initially thought it was going to be. Their security measures didn't exactly account for demonic stealth powers. Either that or they were too focused on watching Metropolis or paying more attention to the oddly Superman-like person that suddenly flew down into the camp at about that time. Holding his position and occasionally making his heart stop to maintain silence, Shay and (subsequently) Alastor watched from a fair business as the flying person basically beat Shay to his own plan and offered his assistance to the League. Although one of the apparent Leaguers gave the visitor more scrutiny than the others, even training one of her weapons on him in the event that he was looking to pick a fight.

"Um... Shay?"

We're a wee bit busy at the moment!

"And this takes priority! There's a man with divine powers here, Shay! You may want to duck out of here before he-"

Will you shut up for a minute? I'm tryin' to watch!

Wally picked his nails, then looked back up. They called it a day, huh. Wally wiped his red hair out of his face.

He was glad that his best friend, Dick was still alive. Like Superbeast, that was best thing he's heard in weeks. He was too tired to do much at the moment, maybe a few snacks would do him good.

Then, Wally saw the movement. "Huh?" He asked. Something was moving in the air. He didn't know how he felt about this. St. William asked if it was friend or foe, Wally was wondering the same thing. He noticed how Bluebird got ready, and he got in a fighting stance himself. They might be dealing with a serious, serious, issue.

When can Wally get a break?

Outside Metropolis City Limits...

The alien presenting himself as Maxus-El touched down shocking a good many of those in the area. Military and metahuman alike saw the resemblance to the Man of Steel in the boy's features. Batman fortunately knew of the child's mother, Maxima, who was often an enemy of Superman's as often as a friend. For several months she served in one of the incarnations of the Justice League under the leadership of Captain Atom. Batman heard Bluebird's reaction to the alien and was glad that some of the team was on guard. The sword of the knight was also drawn.

"I am noting indications of elevated stress, unless you Terrans always look like this?" he commented, looking around at the members of the League and Young Justice.

"Stand down, team." Batman said sternly, then addressing the alien youth, "I'm glad that you made it planet side, Maxus. Your mother reached out to us in one of our darkest hours. Your biological father has been compromised by Braniac."

Just then, Batman felt something in the air. He hadn't felt something like this since his last adventure with the undead hero Boston Brande, aka Deadman. Something supernatural, Raven would surely sense it if she were awake. Some members of the team weren't as in the moment and preoccupied. Light seemingly disappeared to 'check on civilians.' Starfire was presumably still with the unconscious Raven. Somebody was lurking around outside of camp, and that somebody had pissed off the wrong vigilante. Batman pulled a total of three batarangs from the back of his belt and inside of his cape and hurled them in the direction of the supernatural force.

"Show yourself! Surely you're not dumb enough to face the Justice League alone!" Batman yelled with a grizzly tone, to the shock and surprise of the others.

"What the... hell?" Superbeast thought raising an eyebrow, "Did Batman get smacked in the face with fear toxin or is he just being overly paranoid?"

The batarangs, of course, found their mark. They nicked Shay in the shoulders, and one of them even put a cut on his left cheek. The surprise of the blow threw him off balance and he lurched forward with all the grace of a plastered drunk, faceplanting in the grass. This, naturally, threw off his chameleon blending and now the Irish-American was visible to everyone.

"Damn it, mate!" grunted Shay, his words a bit muffled by being face down. He stood himself up, the cut on his cheek already gone before he was even fully standing, "Jaysus, man, you trying to put my eye out or something?"

This wouldn't have happened if you just listened to me.

"Oh don't you even start with me!" Shay blurted back to the demon. Out loud. So everyone could hear him. Of course, no one but Shay himself could hear the demon, so he probably looked like a damned fool talking to himself.

"Look, I'm not your enemy!" he said to Batman, focusing on why he was here in the first place, "In fact I came to offer my help!"

Batman's eyes glared at this would be ally. An alien possessing similar DNA to a Kryptonian as well as another seemingly supernatural hero both showed up the day before Independence Day. Nightwing and the other survivors of Metropolis had just been located hours earlier. This looked like the makings of another win for the good guys. It was only a short time before Batman and his team were to go back into Metropolis.

The Prince's eyes wandered about his surroundings as Batman spoke. He was taking in as much visual information as he could; information about people, their surroundings, level of technology, weapons at their disposal.

While not quite at the level of superstitious natives hurling fire-hardened sticks at thunder in hopes of frightening away the evil spirits therein, their tech had not advanced at a rate with which he felt fully comfortable. It seemed that lovely grey area where it was not so primitive as to be useless to him, but yet not advanced enough that he could recognize the function of most devices without explanation.

The people looked very much like refugees. A mismatched bundle of differences thrown together by desperation and fear. Yet hope persisted, like a nagging cough you just couldn't clear. He had to hand it to these people, whatever the dire emergency was that beat them bloody and threatened to do so again, they stubbornly stood against it, waving rude gestures in its face. They were fighters.

In his mind, while surveying the landscape, Batman's voice sounded much like this:

"Blah blah, blahbidy blah blah. Blah blargh, yakity fahrvergnügen, blah blah father has been compromised by Braniac."

Wait.

His eyes darted directly back to the Dark Knight, narrowing. The cowled Terran now had his full, undivided attention. His reason for even being on this rock just evaporated. Perhaps a new one took its place. He didn't know his father personally, but it was his entire goal to come to this place, meet the man, and learn from him.

He had zero love for Brainiac - the bastard was responsible for so much death on his homeworld, Almerac, weakening it to a point that it could be shattered utterly by another. The Empire stood, such as it was, its capitol planet replaced by a flotilla of Imperial vessels: flagships and worldships, luxury vacation liners replacing cities, mining and processing vessels filling the manufacturing needs of the new Capitol Fleet. The survivors of their people, in that time of extreme strife, turned back to the single strongest and most militarily inclined entity to lead them: The House of the Blood Royale. Still, the powerful youth stood to inherit a target, still weakened and rebuilding, if Brainiac was allowed to use Earth the way he used Warworld and tried to use Almerac.

"Brainiac... is here." he stated flatly. That certainly explained a lot. The Almeracian kept his posture dignified and face as neutral as he could, despite growing anger that peeked out irregularly. "I have abilities most similar to Mother's, though they present differently. I am not as powerful as she, yet. Still I may be of use in your endeavor. Tell me everything you know, then advise me of where I shall be most useful."

At Batman's command, Bluebird began lowering her rifle. The more allies, the better, she supposed. Besides, this one looked like it could take a beating.

"Show yourself!", Batman suddenly bellowed, tossing a series of batarangs into the air.

"Oh for fu-", Xiu muttered to herself, raising her rifle once again, her eyes darting around the area.

"Surely you're not dumb enough to face the Justice League alone!", the old man continued.

Xiu continued scanning the horizon. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw the batarangs draw blood from the air. Immediately, her hyper-sensitive reflexes kicked in. Eyes bulging, she swung her gun around and fired a single shot at where the batarangs had struck. Suddenly a man appeared, as though he stumbled into existence for the first time, just as the round clipped his right ear. The man tumbled to the ground with a grunt. The Chinese gunner kept her sights locked on the man's head all the way down.

"Damn it, mate!", the stranger groaned, before climbing to his feet again. "Jaysus, man, you trying to put my eye out or something?... Oh don't you even start with me!"

He seemed to have some sort of mental illness. Not a risk worth taking. Xiu's trigger finger tightened, ready for the intruder to make a move.

"Look, I'm not your enemy!", the man pleaded, angrily. "In fact I came to offer my help!".

This guy was unconfirmed, and potentially dangerous. She wondered what other powers he might have, on top of invisibility. They couldn't afford to take any chances. Even Batman was surprised this time. Bluebird took charge, marching toward the man, gun still trained on his head.

"Wo-hui-da-si-ni-lao-wai!", she hissed in her native tongue, attempting to be as intimidating as possible. "Who are you, and why should we trust you? Speak or die, hun-dan!"

The supernatural ally had no idea what the girl was saying. Batman made the call once more and he told Bluebird to stand down. The guy's wounds healed rather quickly it seemed, and the detective took another mental note. His plan was set in his mind, and with a couple wildcards in the mix it may make things a lot easier. Batman approached the man more directly, but the Bat still looked menacing even in his older age.

"I'm taking in a team tonight to rescue survivors. If you want in, you've gotta prove your worth. We've already taken losses with the Wanderer going missing..." Batman began saying when the other new addition, the alien spoke up.

"Tell me everything you know, then advise me of where I shall be most useful." the new guy who resembled Superman kind of suggested, still with the sense of royalty and nobility in him.

"You're gonna sit this one out and stay back with the Young Justice team." Batman stated turning to Maxus, and now looking back at the intruder and would be ally with a scowl Batman ordered "You'll be coming with us though to see how your abilities work against the enemy. Superman generally has a weakness to anything magic or supernatural, assuming that's where your origins lie. What do they call you..?" he asked Shay.

Batman, Wonder Woman, the Flash, Captain Marvel, St. William, and Bluebird prepared to go back into Metropolis. Batman briefed them all on what intel he had about the surrounding area covered in the grey mass of nanomachines. After discovering the new guy's name earlier, Batman asked him to join in on their meeting as well. He put off an odd vibe when in the presence of St. William, but other than that he generally seemed like he wanted to help. Doctor Light chose to stay behind, which surprised nobody. Starfire still seemed to be concerned for the health of her friend and long time teammate Raven. Batman instructed the concentrated team in another tent...

"There's roughly two hundred thousand survivors in an area just below where the Daily Planet building stood. The conditions and containment aren't that great, however I've confirmed Nightwing is among them. There's a chance we can still save Superboy as well, but those people..." Batman got quiet, "They won't all make it out of the city."

"It's practically evacuating an entire city in a small area but across a lot of road and techno zombies..." the Flash began stating with hope in his words.

"The closest drone generator will be three blocks away, however the area is completely compromised by Brainiac's nanomachines. We need to get past their defenses as quickly as possible and lead the survivors upwards, if we start getting swarmed by techno zombies Capt. Marvel and Flash can try to damage the generator enough to buy us some time while taking down any turrets on the rooftops. If any infected heroes or enemies show up we have to take them down hard and fast as well to avoid any more casualties than we'll already be dealing with. Stay focused. We leave in thirty minutes..." Batman instructed walking off.

Back at the YJ side of camp...

"So, Superman is kinda the reason I'm doing this hero thing too." Superbeast said approaching the new alien hero and gesturing at the pentagon shaved into his chest fur, "I've only got about a year or so experience in the field, you?"

Maxus looked at the furry red shapeshifter, Garfield couldn't read the guy's face. He was obviously aggravated he wasn't go in with Bat's team...

His feeling of determination and purpose abruptly faded upon hearing Batman's words. The First Prince of the Blood Royale, son of Maxima and heir to the Almeracian Empire, relegated to the kiddie table like some spastic, distant cousin at a holiday feast. A look flashed across his face but for an instant, adequately described as a mixture of shock and anger, before he returned to a his standard stoic, cool expression.

If the elder Terran were remotely aware of his abilities or training, Maxus reasoned, he would not be so easily brushed aside by this guardian who knew so little of him. Still, this personal slight might just be a test. A scenario to see how he would react; if he would suppress his instinct to lead, or demand more of his intended station here on Earth.

Another option - this was an opportunity to survey the situation and show initiative.

Then a single word was spoken that snapped him away from his thoughts. Batman seemed to have a talent for that; perhaps Maxus should send him a gift box of preserved exotic meats from home to congratulate this accomplishment. Nevertheless, the word that grabbed his attention my the lips and yanked was "Superboy".

Was it possible that he still had family on this rock? Maxima did not speak much (that is to say none) about relatives on his father's side. Maybe she didn't know, although it was equally likely that she found it an unimportant detail. What was more, this possible relation was likewise in the grasp of Brainiac. This would not stand.

Back at the Young Justice camp, several thoughts played in his head. He tried valiantly to keep his visage neutral, but surmised that he was unsuccessful when a member of the team sought to strike up a conversation with him. A furry, red creature with the outline of the House of El manscaped into his profuse pectoral hair, speaking to him in a tone of familiarity with which he was unaccustomed. Maxus slowly turned his head to face his teammate, stonefaced until he was finished talking.

"Hero Thing?", he started, as if unsure how to properly enunciate a proper noun. "Yes... Superman was to be my mentor. Mother insisted, though I doubt it was fully motivated by her desire for me to participate in the "Hero Thing". Regardless, he was indeed a Hero, and she wished our meeting."

Getting to know and form trust with his team might be essential. With this in mind, he continued, "You have the mark of the House of El. Do you wear it with his authority? If you would forgive my ignorance, I have but a passing, intellectual knowledge of Terran and Kryptonian custom. In the Empire, one may have their skin flayed and be exposed unprotected to the cold, endless vacuum of space were they to sport the crest of another's house without their patronage."

"But I digress. I have been in the service of Almerac since I was very young, and in our soldiery from the moment I began showing outward signs of approaching manhood. I would not classify the nature of my work as completely altruistic."

"Now I have a question for you, if you would indulge me. What can you tell me of this "Superboy", and why is his rescue not a higher priority?"

Shay turned around, with every intention to angrily glare at whomever was cursing him out in Chinese.... or threatening, Shay didn't speak Chinese so he had no clue. Even so, the cocking of a rifle was a familiar enough sound to inform him that was almost certainly a threat of some kind. Then he saw Bluebird and... suddenly found himself forgetting he was angry. She was rough around the edges, to be sure, but in all honesty, Shay rather liked that sort of quality in a woman. A tough lass that could obviously hold her own and wouldn't take shite from anybody? Now that was Shay's idea of good company.

"You... might consider paying more attention to what Batman is telling you."

Alastor always seemed to know how to be a buzzkill. But it snapped Shay out of his daydreaming and allowed him to catch the tail-end of what Batman was saying. Something about Superman being hurt by magic and accompanying his team back into the city. Wait, Superman could be hurt by magic and the supernatural? Everyone knew about the Kryptonite thing since the Man of Steel basically made that secret public knowledge some time ago, but magical voodoo could hurt him as well? That was definitely news to Shay. And apparently to the demon as well.

"Magic, Batman? You don't say..."

Last thing Shay heard was Batman asking what people called him, "Um... I'm guessing you mean other than 'freak', 'monster', or 'drunk son of a bitch'? I mean... my name is Patrick Shay, if that's what your wonderin'. Never actually done the whole cape and cowl thing like you do." afterward Batman brought him in on a briefing. And right about then, it actually starting to sink in that he was in the company of Batman, Wonder Woman, The Flash, and Captain Marvel.

"You're not turning into a starstruck fanboy are you?"

"N-no! Shut up!" Shay blurted out loud. Again. So before it could get any more awkward, he finally explained, "I got my, um, 'talents' from a demon living in my head." he said, then quickly added, "Hey don't give me no funny look, it can't be anymore unbelievable than an alien robot possessing a man that can fly and shoot lasers from his bloody eyes!"

St William felt rather uncomfortable when Shay arrived and his body gave off a slight red glow. So many fiendish things were appearing around this place of death, but he kept from doing anything aggressive since this person was a Justice League ally. Now St William needed to see if the rest of the league was ready to go on a successful rescue mission and he wondered if Batman had his priorities straight when it came saving his teammate and wasn't doing at the expense of other innocents. He was glad to be on the team going back to rescue the other captured heroes and was glad to have a chance to stick his blade in more of the wicked technical monstrosities.

"I am grateful for the chance to stick my sword into more of the evil fiends that plague this city, they will know what true judgement looks like" he said to Batman and the rest of the team. He gave Shay a strange look when the hero blurted out speaking to no one and then explained that he was talking to the demon inside of him, so that was why William got such bad feelings from the person.

"You should get an excorsism and free your soul from the minion of hell" he said to Shay was a calm voice.

Starfire had been situated in the tent set up for Raven upon her arrival back to camp. She had not budged from her best friend's side since. The Tamaranian Princess had taken a large quantity of drones up into the Earth's Exosphere where she could survive.

Starfire stopped and floated in near zero G, she clenched her fist tightly and her eyes glowed green. Using her fury at Brainiac – how he dared to use her friends Cyborg and Raven against them and god knows what he had done to Nightwing. released a devastating explosion of light radiation without harming anyone on the surface below. Parts of techno-zombie rained down like small meteorites raining down upon the Earth.

Within mere seconds she was back at camp thanks to her supersonic flight. She followed the Flash's speed trail from her vantage point above. With arms outstretched behind her and a green light trail in her wake.

Now she sat by her friend's side with a most sombre expression. “Raven....” She leaned in closely to her. “Raven...please wake up!” She gently shook her by the shoulders. “Raven! RAVEN!” She felt desperately hopeless right now. Star was a tough cookie but she was also highly sensitive and caring for these people she fought alongside. And she refused to give up on her. “Surely there must be something we can do...” She softly sobbed and held her hands together in a prayer motion.

Something then caught her attention. The sound of Nightwing's name. Her hopes were lifted with the news that he remained alive. For now. And then more talking, to what seemed like a newcomer. And then further commotion as they discovered someone else eavesdropping, to which Batman scolded the sneak.

She heard him speak his name. Cant...be... She recognised that name. Maxus-El. The Prince of Almerac. How was he here? She was grateful to hear he had arrived in their time of need, but she was also shocked. She left Raven and gently set her hand on her forehead. “I'll be right back. I'm not going to lose you too.” She expressed sadly as she thought back to Cyborg, who now lay dead among the metallic soldiers of Brainiac. She would stay and protect her at all costs as Batman and his chosen were preparing to re-enter Metropolis on yet another suicide mission. But that's what Heroes did...

Koriand'r (although she prefers being called Starfire now) emerged from the tent, her long flaming red hair furrowing across the shoulders, contrasted to her purple clad torso. She scanned her team mates. She laid eyes on Wally, the boy whom she met first and kissed when she arrived on Earth to learn the English language. Ever since she had been on the run from Tamaran and Blackfire...Komand'r. Who would surely enrage at the discovery that her pesky little sister had escaped the Gordadians clutches. And since that capture a couple years ago, she had not been in contact with her childhood friend via their parent's royalty, Maxus-El.

She then saw Superbeast conversing with the latest arrival. Star clapped her hands together happily behind them. “Maxus-El?! How glorious it is to see you!” This latest news overjoyed the Tamaranian royal. He had not seen her in a while and so she was unsure if he would recognise her. Being all Tamaranians mostly looked the same in features. And so she would not risk a friendly hug yet as the two had a more formal relationship.

A feeling of disbelief washed over Maxus-El as he heard that voice, endearing and abrasively optimistic at the same time. So very familiar, though he'd never heard it using the English language before. Being fair, he'd never personally spoken the language until earlier that day, himself.

If it were physically possible to do so, Maxus seemed to stand even straighter than his aristocratically groomed posture offered. A streak of honest emotion he didn't bother trying to bury cascaded over him. It was elation. Despite having just met the young prince, one might note with surprise that his face did not rupture as a grin was made manifest, so seldom he must make use of a happy expression.

He turned to face the voice, giving a quarter-second to reach out to her mentally, the lightest brush confirming his assertion. Not that he needed to, really. She was unmistakable enough. Involuntarily, Maxus took a step forward while raising his arms as if to begin an embrace, before remembering his upbringing and their situation. Instead, he tried to cover for his action by reaching to grasp one of Starfire's hands. A fairly formal gesture; he bowed, placing his forehead against the back of her hand, and rose with diplomatic greeting.

"It is an honor and pleasure to receive you, Princess Koriand'r of Tamaran. And quite too long, if I may be presumptuous. I am, as always, at my Lady's service."

His smile, genuine but just a bit suppressed now, continued. Reaching out to Starfire's surface thoughts, Maxus-El telepathically intoned in Star's native Tamaranian, "Does anyone here know about..." as he gave the slightest of hand gestures, once to her and once to himself.

"You are certainly looking well, Kori." he continued verbally, and in his recently acquired English. "What is happening here? I have questions, many questions... And we have catching up to do, when time permits."

Certain realizations, unshared among the group, dawned on the displaced prince. He took stock of his surroundings and shut down any trace of emotion on his face. Maxus was in the company of the Princess of Tamaran and a red, fuzzy neophyte with his biological father's crest outlined across his chest. There were likely others in the shelters around them. He was in the middle of a warzone with his only means of reliably getting offworld many miles away. His father, the initial purpose of his travel, was supposedly lost to the entity that razed his homeworld. Did Maxima know about all of this? Was she aware Koriand'r would be here? Was this her true motivation for sending him to this planet?

Maxus-El, First Prince of Almerac, may have found another compelling reason to stick it out.

"The new guy who looks like a younger Superman knows Starfire?" Superbeast thought, "Universe seems smaller every day..."

Gar began to speak of his relationship with Superman and Superboy before Starfire came out of the wounded tent. He watched on at the whole show of being an alien gentleman and whatnot and would make fun of the sight if he didn't know both of them could likely rip him to pieces.

"Superman is kinda the reason I have powers. Some aliens in his zoo attacked me and the combination of venoms and anti-venoms resulted in the red fur and shapeshifting abilities. I'm kinda like that Ben Ten Thousand on tv, but I only turn into like a dozen aliens or so..." Superbeast began explaining but wasn't sure if had Maxus' attention or not, "And Superboy, he's a clone of Superman who's also half human. All his powers are telekinetic in nature but he recently began absorbing solar energy and emitting heat vision from his eyes. He was one of the heroes taken down early in the invasion. Nightwing's still with the survivors in a holding cell, Bats said Superboy might be down there too..."

Garfield finally just gave up on Maxus. Since he was a little more familiar with Starfire, Superbeast turned into his small humatoad form and leaped onto the shoulder of the Tamaranian.

"Is Raven looking any better, Star?" he asked.

Back at the League's briefing tent the Flash paced back and forth. He'd be one of the guys responsible for crowd control and keeping the techno zombie drones cleared away to give the civilians safe passage. Batman had tasked him and Marvel with the taking down the nearest drone generator if things got too bad. Batman also mentioned not everyone would make it out alive. Two hundred thousand civilians as well as Nightwing and possibly Superboy. That's why the mission was League only. Batman didn't want the younger heroes seeing a bunch of civilians die in front of them if things went south. The losses were already too great in number. The Flash wrote something on a piece of paper and approached a soldier.

"If something happens to me, could you give this to my nephew?" Barry asked the soldier, removing his mask and looking at the man face to face.

"I'll take the note, but you're coming back from this, sir. You're the fastest man alive." the soldier commented.

"Thank you." Barry said putting his mask back on and darting off.

He got to a smaller tent where some of his civilian stuff was located. He looked at a picture of his wife, Iris, and tucked it in his boot. The red clad hero popped his neck and stretched out. He ate several protein bars and drank three bottles of water in no time. It was almost go-time as far as the search and rescue mission went. Flash met with Batman at the entrance into the city along with Wonder Woman awaiting the others. On the far side of camp Static was walking alone, cursing that the Young Justice group couldn't volunteer for the mission. He, Marvel, and Superbeast took down a drone generator in no time earlier. He also seemed quite upset that he couldn't contact his family back in Dakota due to the tech interference around the city.
