Shiranui was relieved to see the shiny Spoink able to bounce again. "It is possible," replied Shiranui. He had been the one to promise Spoink to get its pearl back. "We'll let Spoink decide what to do."

Spoink bounced in place. It eventually hopped over to Liam. Liam pulled out a Luxury Ball and Spoink tapped the ball. Liam was debating on a nickname for Spoink.

"If it's a girl, you could name it Pearl," Shiranui suggested.

"But, this one is a boy." Liam replied.

"It's that discolored spoink we helped" Lance said smiling, "seems to have taken a liking to you"

Shiranui nodded in agreement to Lance's statement as he thought long and hard about a name for Spoink. "What about Obsidian?" he suggested, noticing the black pearl.

"That's a cool nickname" Lance said supporting shiranui.

"Yeah, I like it." Liam said. He than called Oak and sent a Pokémon back to make a place on the team for Obsidian. He called out Sherlock to teleport them to Petalburg. Liam looked at the contest book and saw that not only was flight/teleporting the easiest way to get to Petalburg, they were the only ways they'd get there in time for the contest. Liam instructed them to place a hand on Sherlock and he'd teleport them all there.

Shiranui grabbed one of Sherlock's shoulder guards.

Lance grabbed onto Sherlock.

Sherlock teleported to Petalburg. Liam checked in at the center and found a Chansey at the desk. Liam figured that she might have been busy on an errand or tending to a Pokémon that needed attention. He handed over his Pokémon to Chansey to be healed.

Shiranui handed his over as well. "She could be getting ready for the contest," he speculated to Liam, knowing it was on the horizon.

"True." Liam admitted.

[James Davy]

"Speaking of which, when does the contest start?" Shiranui asked.

[bowtiesrcool86]

"We need to go register now." Liam said.

"Alright I'll go train some more while you guys do that" Lance said walking off.

Liam went and registered for the contest. He overheard someone complain that the gym was closed for a bit while the leader was on some errand.

Shiranui registered for the contest as well.

The contest soon began.
"Hello! and Welcome to the Petalburg City Contest!" Vivian annouced to a cheering audience. "I'm you're host, Vivian Meridian! Our thirty co-ordinators are competing today for the prestigious Petalburg Ribbon!" The crowd cheered once more. "Without further ado, here is our lovely panel of judges! The head of the Pokémon Contsest Committee,Mr. Raoul Contesta!" The audience cheered.
"Today is a lovely day for a contest. I ask that everyone have a good time today.Vivian continued. "The head of the Pokémon Fan Club Committee, "
Mr. Sukizo!" Again, the crowd cheered."Petalburg is Remarkable!"
Vivian continued. "And, last but not least, filling in for our very own,Nurse Joy who is felling under the weather today, Petalburg's very own, Gym Leader Norman!" At this point the audience's cheers were near deafening. Norman thanked them for them all for showing up. "Now, let's get this contest underway! Our first contestant comes all the way from Sinnoh! Give a warm welcome to Dawn!"
Dawn, a black haired girl in a pink dress came out on stage. She tossed a ball into the air and called out: "Piplup! Spotlight!" The adorable Pokémon emerged and began to routine using Whirlpool, Ice Beam, and Drill Peck.
"A beautiful combo."
"Piplup is remarkable!"
"Piplup certainly is an interesting Pokémon." Norman commented.

"Contestant #11, from Blackthorn City, Johto 'Dragon Master' Liam Coleman!" Liam came out and tossed his Luxury Ball into the air. "Pidgeot! Make a Whirlwind!" The giant bird emerged and did as instructed. Liam tossed a bunch of berries into the vortex. As they spun around at faster and faster paces Liam called out for a mega evolving Air Cutter as he used the Mega Stone. The berries were crushed into a fine powder that was picked up by the air cutter. Pidgin finished by landing and wrapped its wings around its trainer.

"Such an interesting use for berries."
"Mega Evolution is remarkable!"
"Your Pidgeot seems very formidable 'Dragon Master'"

"Next in our line-up is Contestant #24, Johto 'Sea Hero' Shiranui Tsukiko!" Shiranui came out wearing a royal blue ninja outfit.
"Hoshi, I choose you!" Lots of bubbles flew out of Hoshi's Poké Ball and coalesced into the Staryu. "Start with Swift!" Hoshi started spinning in the air and fired bright cyan stars that formed two concentric circles with the inner circle spinning in a retrograde direction and the other circle spinning in a prograde direction. "Time to power up, Hoshi, catch!" Shiranui threw a Water Stone at the spinning Staryu and once the stone made contact, Hoshi started to glow. After forming an extra set of five limbs, the glow subsided to reveal a Starmie.

"Aquatic Catherine Wheel Combination!" Using a combination of Hydro Pump and Rapid Spin, Hoshi spun very fast while shooting high-pressure blasts of water out of all ten of its limbs. The Swift attack was caught in the water blasts and spun along in pace. "Psywave!" Hoshi conjured a bright white spinning five-pointed star that completed the design. "Finish it with Thunder!" Lightning struck the watery Catherine wheel and caused it to explode into a myriad of sparkles. Hoshi landed at centre stage and uttered a cry.

"A performance worthy of the Grand Festival!"
"Remarkable!"
"Your Starmie is so versatile with its moves."

Shiranui noticed that he was tied with Dawn in the scores. He also saw that the stage was soaking wet after his appeal. "Well, any Pokémon who can use an Ice-type move can take advantage of this." he mused to himself.
