[IC] Pokémon Hoenn: α and Ω

"Well, I'll be ready soon." Liam said. "I just need to go over some strategies in my head."

"Consider the Pokémon he may throw at us," Shiranui continued, looking through his Pokédex and cross-referencing Normal-type Hoenn-native Pokémon, "He'll likely have us face any of these three." He showed Liam the entries of the Slakoth evolution line, based on proximity to the gym.

"Slakoth, the Slacker Pokémon. Slakoth's heart beats just once a minute. Whatever happens, it is content to loaf around motionless. It is rare to see this Pokémon in motion."

"Vigoroth, the Wild Monkey Pokémon and the evolved form of Slakoth. Its stress level rises if it cannot keep moving constantly. Too much stress makes it feel sick."

"Slaking, the Lazy Pokémon and the evolved form of Vigoroth. It is the world's most slothful Pokémon. However, it can exert horrifying power by releasing pent-up energy all at once."

Liam had decided on what he would bring to the gym.

Shiranui got his party ready as well. Of particular note was the Aegislash on his back—he had picked Yoto as heavy artillery.

"Well, do we want to go on to the gym or wait for Lance?" Liam asked.

After Zhonya was healed Lance returned back to petalburg city using his gardevoir. he met back up with shiranui and Liam, "how did the contest go"

Liam flashed the ribbon. "We were waiting on you to arrive to face the gym."

"We also discussed what Norman may be like in battle," added Shiranui.

"Well, let's go the gym than." Liam said.

Shiranui nodded and left the Pokémon Centre.

At the gym, the heroes found a small bespectacled boy in a green shirt brushing a Slacking while it slept (cliché snot bubble included). A Munchlax was sitting down next to the boy sleeping in the same manner.

Shiranui was not surprised in the least to see those Pokémon sleeping as Slaking was stated to be the laziest and Munchlax was a pre-evolution of a sleeper. "Hello, is Norman around?" he inquired, "We're here to challenge the gym."

The boy looked up. He instantly recognized Liam and Shiranui. His face lit up. (Think Ash's 'Science is amazing' look from the anime). He talked about how he had seen all those big battle they had done across Kanto, Johto, and Kalos, including the specialty competitions like the Whirl Cup and P1 Grand Prix. He than regained his composure and informed them that his dad would be back soon. He went to talk to Nurse Joy about how the contest went. He than introduced himself as Max and introduced his father's Slacking and his sister's Munchlax, the later of which had woken up and happily greeted the trainers before hugging Max.

"Hello Munchlax; hello Slaking," Shiranui greeted back while digesting what Max was saying, "Both Liam and I are also in the local Contest circuit."

Norman walked in at the point. "And they both did very well today." He said. Norman than properly introduced himself. He inspected the brushing Max had done on Slacking and was pleased. He told the heroes that the gym battle would have each trainer using three Pokémon each and asked who would go first.

"I'll go first," answered Shiranui, stepping up to the challenger's side of the battlefield.

"This battle will be a three-on-three single battle with no time limit," the official recited, "Only the challenger can switch Pokémon. Begin!"
"Go Slaking!"
"Niwatori, I choose you!" Shiranui sent out his Combusken in response to Norman's Slaking.
"Slaking, Yawn!"
"Niwatori, Protect!" Niwatori conjured a green shield that was opaque enough to prevent the Combusken from catching the yawning bug while Slaking let off a big yawn that was ineffective.
"Niwatori, Focus Blast!" Shiranui knew why Norman didn't make a call that time as Slaking's Truant ability would prevent it from making a move. Niwatori focused his mind and unleashed a blast of raw power that struck Slaking for heavy damage.
"Slaking, Slack Off!"
"Niwatori, Focus Punch!" Slaking put its laziness to work to recover some of the damage from the Focus Blast while Niwatori focused his mind to get ready for a powerful attack. Slaking not moving due to its ability gave Niwatori enough time to charge in and deliver a powerful blow that didn't quite knock Slaking out.
"Slaking, Slack Off!"
"Niwatori, Quick Attack!" The Combusken ran at Slaking before it could recover its health and shoulder checked it into a knockout.

"Slaking, return; go Vigoroth!" Norman switched the knocked-out Slaking and sent its pre-evolution out while Shiranui kept Niwatori out. "Vigoroth, Retaliate!"
"Niwatori, Protect!" The Combusken conjured the green shield just in time as Vigoroth charged and delivered a devastating blow that was repelled by the shield.
"Vigoroth, Encore!"
"Niwatori, return; Manectric, I choose you!" Shiranui switched Niwatori and sent Manectric out, causing Vigoroth's Encore to fail.
"Vigoroth, Fury Swipes!"
"Manectric, Thunder! Mega Ring activate!" Shiranui activated the keystone on his Mega Ring and Manectric was enveloped in an orb of energy. The orb shattered to reveal Mega Manectric, who proceeded to conjure a storm cloud over the battlefield. Vigoroth was struck by lightning for heavy damage. Vigoroth charged at Manectric and delivered five quick slashes with its claws that collectively did a lot of damage.
"Vigoroth, Endure!"
"Manectric, Electric Terrain!" Vigoroth braced itself for another attack, but Manectric was having none of it as she electrified the battlefield.
"Vigoroth, Reversal!"
"Manectric, Discharge!" Manectric zapped Vigoroth into a knockout, leaving the air smelling of ozone.

"Vigoroth, return; go Slaking!" Norman switched the downed Vigoroth for the very Slaking that Max was brushing earlier.
"Another Slaking?" asked Shiranui, "This will be a cinch!"
"This one is more experienced in battle," rebutted Norman.
"Manectric, return; Yoto, I choose you!" Shiranui returned his Manectric and Yoto came out from Shiranui's back, ready for battle.
"Slaking, Retaliate!"
"That won't work!" said Shiranui, "Yoto, Sacred Sword!" Slaking tried to deal a devastating blow, but the attack phased right through Yoto. Yoto changed to his Blade Forme and performed a sword technique that only his evolution line and a fabled quartet of legendaries knew of. Slaking received a lot of damage from the attack.
"Yoto, give that Slaking another one!" The Aegislash slashed Slaking and left it all but knocked out.
"So that thing is a Ghost type," stated Norman, "I have just the strategy to deal with those. Slaking, Feint Attack!"
"Yoto, King's Shield!" Yoto changed back into his Shield Forme as Slaking disappeared from sight in a burst of activity. Yoto saw Slaking reappear and promptly used his shield to block the blow, the impact resulting in a loud clang. Slaking's Attack stat fell harshly from the recoil of the blow.
"Now, finish it off with Hyper Beam!" Because of Truant, Slaking was a sitting Psyduck as Yoto changed to his Blade Forme again and fired a powerful beam of energy from his serrated tip. Slaking was blasted and was without a doubt knocked out from the blow.

"For showing me excellent skills in battle as well as an exceptional bond with your Pokémon, I'm awarding you the Balance Badge!" Norman congratulated.
"Thanks, Norman," replied Shiranui.

Liam went next. Norman sent out his first Slacking. Liam called on Hitmonchan.
"Yawn!" Norman yelled.
"Protect!" Liam called. Norman's attack failed. While Slacking was unable to move from Turant, Liam called for a Power Up Punch. The move landed a critical hit and did a fair amount of damage. (40 *STAB *Weakness + Iron Fist = 144 Power) Hitmonchan's attack stat went up as well. This time when Slacking was able to move, it used Slack off and recovered the health it just lost. Liam called for Power Up Punch again and did a little bit more damage. His attack stat was now upped twice. In Slacking's next Turant, Another Power Up Punch was made and this Slacking was on it's last leg. Norman called for another Slack Off, as otherwise Slacking would go down for sure this turn.
"Vacuum Wave!" Liam called. The priority move hit Slacking before it could heal and won.

Norman next called out Vigaroth. Liam called for another Power up Punch witch hit, upping Hitmonchan even more. Norman called for a Crush Claw, that hit and did fair damage. Liam called for a Drain Punch, which missed and gave Vigorish an opening for Focus Punch. Hitmanchan was missing a lot of health after that move. Liam called for another Drain Punch, hitting this time and KO'ing Vigoroth while restoring some HP.

Norman sent out his final Slaking. Liam asked Hitmonchan if he wanted to continue, which he did and than called for one more Power Up Punch. Slacknig was hit and fired off Yawn, this time successfully. Liam knew that he could play it safe and switch out in the freebie turn, or he could risk it and try to finish it. He had used Power Up Punch five times now, which would yield a nice boost. Hitmonchan learned Focus Punch after seeing it once and landed it due to Turant keeping Slacking from moving. (120 power * STAB * Weak +Iron Fist + Atk boosted 5 stages) A bunch of dust was thrown into the air with the move. Once it settled, Slacking was KO'd and Hitmonchan was asleep on his feet. Liam was named the winner and Liam was presented with the Balance Badge.

Lance was last, knowing it was a normal type gym Lance took the liberty of teaching his grovyle brick break. "Let's do this" Lance said staring with ludicolo. Norman started with slacking, "ludicolo water gun" ludicolo cocked his head back and fired a stream of water knocking slacking back. "Slacking slack off" Norman said. "Finish with another water gun" Lance said, ludicolo hit slacking with another water gun critical hitting,Slacking fainted.

Next battle was vigoroth vs Zhonya, "Zhonya psychic go" Lance said, Lances gardevoir eyes glew as it picked up vigoroth and fling the Pokemon into the ground. "Disarming voice now" Lance said as Zhonya let out a piercing sound dealing damage to vigoroth. "Vigoroth slash" vigoroth's claws grew bright and he attacked Zhonya with a critical hit. "It's alright Zhonya, use psychic again and finish him" Zhonya winced and regained focus picking up vigoroth and flinging him into the gym wall causing the Pokemon to faint.

Norman called back vigoroth and called out slaking. "Grovyle" Lance said throwing out grovyle, "grovyle leaf blade" Lance said. Grovyle had the upper hand in speed,"slaking yawn" slaking yawned making grovyle sleepy. Before grovyle reached slaking he crashed falling into deep sleep. "Aww man" Lance said, "slaking body slam" slaking landed on grovyle causing serious damage. "Grovyle how do you sleep through thet wake up. "Slaking use body slam again" slaking was about to land on grovyle but grovyle woke up. "Grovyle leaf blade" grovyle leaves on his arm sharpened, he swiped his arm cutting st slaking who took some light damage. Grovyle kneeled as the damage he took settled in, but he began glowing white as he evolved into sceptile. "Nice job, now it's time to finish this, use brick break" sceptile closed in on slaking in the blick of an eye kicking up dirt from his footsteps. He striked slakings belly three times before sending him flying unconscious. "Nice job"'Lance said smirking giving sceptile a high five. Lance collected his badge and returned back to his friends

Shiranui was waiting at the Pokémon Centre for his Pokémon to be healed. "Our next destination is far away at Fortree City," he stated, "We can warp to Mauville City, but we'll have to trek northward along Routes 118 and 119."

"That sounds like the easiest way to do it." Liam said after getting his team healed.
