Mind you, that's awful close to Belru's (Pacts)

I'm sorry, who wrote the Oath of Stilldeath? Was it some hedge-goddess that's been birthing cats and talking with tortoises? Or was it the being who dumped twenty might and made those as great as gods make a voluntary promise in the memory of fallen siblings?! Bitch, you gotta push if you wanna be a pusher!

More seriously, I was leaning more towards oaths as personal pacts rather than pacts beholden to others. It's less contracts of service and more like oaths of silence, honesty, or something similar. People can take oaths and break them, but they are maintained with personal motivation rather than obligation. Toun's self-improvement philosophy feeds into that with a monastic bent, and when I finally get enough time to write more, that's how I plan for mortals to be influenced by him. There will be some overlap, but not too much, I should think.

You have just ignited the flame that will kill millions. Or thousands. Whatever are current global population for Galbar is at the moment.

I also found out that I was a Fascist/Nazi today. Was planning the take over of southern Africa with a friend and expressed the clear need for and authoritarian governmental system and a slave class (Ideas Termite solidified in my head).

30 years from now, you will hear in the knews of the nation of Lokileoistan born from most of south Africa.

:P

Just make sure to credit Termite and me, 'cause we're the ones who inspired you to such feats of despotic and genocidal glory. Like, before every speech, just say 'this is for my mentors Termie and Kho,' or give a salute and scream 'FOR JVAN AND TOBIA!'

For who. No idea who those are. Especially TOBIA. Nope. Jvan though. Yeah I recognize the mass of fleshy stuff. Definitely.

@Kho, wow, thanks. I wasn't expecting a reward like that.

I can't speak for Mutton, but I think it would be best for Teknall to be gifted a Portfolio (especially considering how I'm trying to collect those). It would be odd to give a relic to the guy who is supposed to be making the relics.

At the present I'm eyeing Electricity, Metal, and Machinery. (I believe we agreed that a God can have the same Portfolio as a Demigod, and we only get problems if that Demigod ascends to Godhood.) There are a few others I could go for too, like Computers, Rocketry (although these two aren't appropriate at present), Magic Items, Vehicles, and Chemistry.

@BBeast I don't think Magic Items is a good name nor concept for a portfolio. Relics, Artifacts, Enchantment, or some other word might work better but... All gods do it, and while a port would make tek's relics better so would picking the item as a port, like Ilunabar who is going to get Jewellery very soon.

Speaking of which, could you or @Rtron explain to me the bits of rovaick culture that aren't in the sheets? Like the map with the clans (and which of those is the one where metalworking was invented)

The things I was thinking for Magic Items (a better name may be in order. Enchantment might work) were items which specifically used the magic intrinsic to the Universe to create special effects. Basically, the sorts of magic items you might pick up in D&D or something similar, like a Bag of Holding or a Cloak of Invisibility or a levitating glowing orb. It would not include divine artefacts, unless they explicitly use magic-magic rather than divine-magic.

It was only one of my ideas for a Portfolio, so if it seems broken that isn't too great a loss.

@BBeast on that case wouldn't that be more of an Astarte thing? On the other side teknall does seem to be more willing to interact with mortals than the ones I could see making magic or holy items (like niciel or the previously mentioned Astarte) so it could indeed bring some interesting stuff.

Technomagic will be cool once it's kicking.

If @Frettzo or @Scarifar or anyone else is interested in taking the Magic Items portfolio, then they can have it instead. I have plenty of prospective Portfolios to choose from. But while Teknall might be our resident technology god, he is also the god of Crafting, and has an intimate knowledge of all the things the gods (except Vowzra) wrote on the Codex including magic. Making magic items falls within the reach of Crafting and within his capabilities.

It feels to me that to make Magic Items you'd need a hold of both Crafting and Magic as domains. Take the portfolio if you want, I don't have any plans to create magic items. Domains and Portfolios have become increasingly abstract and nonlimitative lately anyway, so I doubt it matters much.

A compromise could be something like wandistry or idols, in which the crafting involves producing an item through which pre-existing magic, either in a person or in the environment, can be concentrated, stored, channelled or altered. The item doesn't have magic in itself, but it's a tool for the people and places that do.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

So long as the introduction of the portfolio fits in neatly with the plot. Personally I'd rather the gift made the 3 Might inclusion cost free while the unlocking steps still have to be performed, but I don't actually mind.

Perhaps, as Frettzo said, it would be best to take the stance that something like the 'Magic Items' portfolio falls under both Crafting and Magic. That is not to say that Teknall cannot create magical items anyway with the Universe's intrinsic magic energies, or that Astarte or Niciel (or Belruarc! You forgetters, you!) cannot enhance weapons by imbuing them with the Universe's magic or their own particular brand, but for any of them to assume the 'Magic Items' portfolio they would require both Crafting and Magic domains.

Either way, Magic Items are so generic and universal to gods that it's difficult to see what difference having a portfolio over them would make, other than making it possible for Teknall to craft them and imbue them with magic without spending one Might or a Free Point.

Looking at the others you're considering though, the only ones I can see having potential issues are Electricity and Metal.
Electricity is just energy, difficult to claim it under a Crafting domain - though there is no denying that Teknall could craft things which enable him and others to manipulate Electricity (perhaps an Electricity Manipulation portfolio? I feel there may be a better way of putting it ^^').
As for Metal, it probably falls under more of an Earth domain, though something like Metal Crafting doubtlessly falls under a Crafting domain, just as Wood would (xD) fall under an Earth/Nature domain, but Wood Carving would fall under a Crafting domain, or Stone Carving (!! isn't that very important at the city-building stage of civilisation?)

In any case, Domain (Portfolios) are inherently flexible and there are a lot of grey areas, but what's discussion for, eh?

That would make more sense story-wise, I agree. Perhaps it BBeast and Mutton should write a post or two, however short, or have portions of upcoming posts which refer to them experimenting with whatever Portfolio they plan on assuming, though not necessarily spending Might on them.

Plus, things like Mutton's Oaths are not out of the blue - Toun has been into that stuff for a while, especially with his Calligraphy portfolio and Oath of Sularn. As for Teknall, he's been doing all kinds of Crafting - from Urtelem ot Ull's divine weapon - so there are a wide range of Portfolios which he can assume without producing a storyline anomaly.

@Kho Isn't that... a bit crazy? I mean, if Metal doesn't fall under Teknall's crafting I would be thoughtfully screwed considering how much of what I do is merely secondary to beauty (Stories and Aesthetic, ok. But Colors, Flowers and Glass would be a nono.) And on Teknall's case, all he had to do was to rephrase it as Smiting/Forging and he would get exactly the same package of metal manipulation, so it seems a bit silly.

@Double Capybara Forging is an action done to the Metal, it is different from Metal. As a Crafting god, Teknall's chief power is not over actual things (metal, stone, wood, etc.) but over the ability to manipulate those things and fashion them in a certain way. I don't think it's limiting in any way.

Now, Crafting and Beauty are two very different kinds of domain. Crafting is relatively straightforward imo, whereas Beauty is far more abstract. But as I say, what's discussion for?

Edit: just to clarify, this is me speaking as a fellow player in an attempt to contribute to the delineation of some things regarding Domains (Portfolios) rather than dictating as a GM. If you have another view, feel free to say
